If one has a recent Samsung phone, the built-in app will automatically use the external microphone/source for recording. If one uses the Pro Video mode, the audio level bars are displayed. Moreover, one can set the exposure and focus manually in Pro Video mode so the exposure doesn't change when one moves around. It enabled me to do away with the Open Camera app.

Jimmy thanks a lot for a great tutorial . I would how ever like to clarify/ enquire about one thing. The mixer has 2 outs , Right and Left channel . As per CTIA standards , The TRRS converter ( Grey cable ) from phone converts that TRRS into TRS . i.e , the two incoming channels ( Right and Left ) from mixer are shorted into One Microphone channel . To clarify , the Sleeve of TRRS bears the microphone signal which is shorted to the Tip and Ring of TRS . On the other hand , the Ring closer to Sleeve in TRRS bears the Ground signal and is connected to the Sleeve of TRS .
IN such a situation , the Right and Left Channels of Mixer are directly shorted which seems to be a big problem for the mixer health and it can even blow up its channels as the output impedance of audio devices is always Low . What is your take on it ? Did you encounter any such problems ??

    NOTE FOR APPLE IOS USERS
The method in this video uses the mic input on the iOS device and is NOT stereo. I found a better solution is to use the Apple "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter". You plug the USB port of this adapter into the USB port on your mixer and the lightning connector to your iOS device.
    Here are the benefits:
    - Digital line-level signal into the iPhone/iPad (no worry about low or hot signal levels)
    - Stereo audio recording in the iOS camera app (the line-in is chosen automatically)
    - iOS device can charge with the optional connection of a power cable (lightning) for long sessions
    - USB audio connection is bi-directional, meaning after receiving audio from your mixer to record, the playback goes back to the mixer without the need to change any cables

The TRRS jack has stereo headphone outputs but only a MONO mic input - there are only 3 audio signals and the earth. To record a STEREO input you need an adaptor like the Rode SC6-L with associated Reporter app, which only works for an Apple device. Is there any equivalent Android adaptor and App which also addresses the Rode shortcoming of only ganged left and right input recording level and no power for condenser mics?

I only want to record sound not video or live stream, from my 1210’s from my mixer or my amp? to my iPhone, so I can listen to some mixes as I haven’t got a working laptop. I bought the trs lead, connected that to the short iPhone lightening adapter that’s comes with the iPhone, plugged into my phone one end and to a red and white audio lead and connected to the record out to the mixer the other end. I was told by a friend I could record using the voice memo native app on the iPhone as it works for him. In theory it should work as it works for him (he’s uses traktor) but I keep recording the sound from the room. Any ideas of suggestions on what I’m doing wrong? Thanks any help much appreciated 👍🏻

Nice and Thanks! Quality may be a problem, I use similar setup but I use balanced XLR with separate shield, even so, as Mixer has amplifiers built in and recorder mic input level is low, signal path is likely to be (extra -20db) + amplifier + mic input. That's my headache. Yes recorder will have auto level control, but for transient sound like suddenly hit of piano keys, it could be over level even not shown on level scale.
Again thanks for let me know two apps!

Great video! the Mackie 10 looks good.
BUT there should be a box that does it all so anyone can shoot video while playing guitar to a backing track in headphones!
I have audio engineering experience , but I shouldn't really have to for this . I ran guitar HX Stomp >to tascam DR40 mini interface > TRS cable > otg adapter USB to phone >open camera .
it works yet I can't get a cue mix in headphones .that's why a mixer would be better , for pre amping the signal and monitoring in head phones .
what I do now is I play into the phone and look back at the video and the direct sound is good .
in the industry the tech is like...almost there .
now they are making everything blue tooth for mp3 players which is not as good as wireless, or wired for doing backing tracks !

  • @gregorywarren1

If you dont have a nice mixing desk like us you can plug a usb microphone (with a US-C (I refuse to say usb-c because its silly) ) like nearly all usb devices. Keybored mices probably cameras. I just plugged a Guitar Hero microphone into a S7 Tab (Why does guitar hero game even have a microphone) and the samsung voice recorder app picks it up immediately. Same would go for your fancy Yeti etc. If you happen to have those cheap guitar (phono plug) to USB adapters ($5 - $10 ebay... not amazon) then you can record a high impedance device like a guitar on your phone too. These tablets that are not a real 4-5G device have a real crappy microphone will not pickup much of my Bass guitar at all. Pass that on please

Hi, I just bought a Behringer Mixer and have followed your steps to get inline mic for when we record using our phone. However, we keep getting a white hissing noise after we have recorded. Any advice or tips to help us remove the sound when recording inline. Thanks

could be a lot to possibility, Bad Cord, bad pod, I would start by recording a test and then muting each channel one at a time and seeing if you find which channel is make the noise, then you can find out if its a cord or bad channel ETC

Hey Jimmy! my dad stumbled across this video and it was a great help! The converters just arrived and evidently my dad has the exact same mixer as yours aahha. I was just wondering if its possible to listen to the audio live through headphones so we can adjust mic gains, echo etc whislt live. Or is the only way via listening to recordings then adjusting afterwards? Nonetheless your video has been a great help regardless!!.
