i dont ever comment on videos but if there was one video on youtube i could say has genuinely helped me understand all of this it would be this one so thank you
This video is amazing! It is easy to follow. The narrator speaks slowly and enunciates the directions. Thank YOU so much for making this concise and truly helpful video.
This is the video I was looking for. Thank you so much 🙏 detailed step by step instructions because I am starting from no knowledge at all. Appreciated greatly 🙏
Thank you for making these videos so easy to understand for those of us who are new to this and are just now learning and do not know the lingo! You are my favorite educator in this area.
Also - would LOVE to see you do a 'getting started with Reaper' as the web is full of older videos and the software has changed. but most importantly, you do such a killer job of explaining things, i think even a dummy like me could get to work with Reaper right away with your guidance. But we all have 'easy ideas' for other people to do, eh? ;)
That’s a great idea! The only thing that has kept me from doing it already is the vastness of what can be done in Reaper. What would you like to see demonstrated in a “getting started” video?
I know my equipment I searched for a vid so someone would understand. This was 100% direct simple and correct. Took over an hour and finally lol. Thanks for your video I saved it and I never do that.
@@AudioUniversitywith my solo it’s letting me hear game audio but no one in discord. My mic is working for them. I have it set as my input n output. I’ve set reaper up. I’m not sure what’s going on
Thanks 🙏 a million you’re dope!! Nice and simple and easy to understand with me having no previous experience with any of it but want to get started. I have maschine drum machine and software and Reasons it’s ten years old but I was told it doesn’t matter to still use.
Amazing video❤❤ i only have one doubt.. is it possible to get output to external speakers without a audio interface from midi keyboard (I don't want a microphone)
I am requesting some guidance and hope I am taken the right route. This setup is for a small church to stream to RUclips. We have a 16-channel analog sound board. My plan is to use the Focusrite Solo 4th generation to be the interface between the soundboard and a Win10 laptop using OBS. I am hopeful I can get some feedback on my plan. Your video is superb. You are masterful at explaining and providing the detail and explanation that so many others miss.
Wait wait so I can't use my USB headset if I get this set up for my mic? Or can I still just plug in my headset to my pc? I'm only doing this for better mic quality in my videos
This video is super well-put together, but I'm wondering - do interfaces not usually have some way to output audio directly through the computer speakers when the DAW is open, i.e. are headphones/speakers necessary? I've been struggling for several hours with hearing my guitar through my computer speakers, and I wasn't sure if I literally can't do that, and I need to have headphones/speakers to plug in using the 1/4 inch or RCA cables or whatever
If I have an audio interface with a single 1/4 input. Can I connect a Synth with separate 1/4 left/right line level outputs if I use a cable with separate 1/4 left/right TS ends and 1 x 1/4 TRS end?
Great video Audio University! One question, did you have to download ASIO in order to get clear sound out of the audio interface? When using MME Direct, I noticed the audio (guitar recording) was distorted badly. Only after downloading ASIO was I able to get clear audio out of the interface.
input level can be adjusted by Windows mixer (or recording device) when using MME to avoid clipping (overloading) ASIO has the advantage of bypassing Windows sampling rate conversion (fixed to PCM 16bit/48kHz)
What brought me here was to make sure my laptop worked with my 2i2 and my Presonus 5.25 monitors without low level hum from EMF or RF. If I understand you and others correctly, it is unbalanced cables that cause this? Thank you great video
great presentation.... but only up to the speakers connect part..... so where does the Arturia keylab mk2 connect to?.... it wud hav been a complete picture for the dumb beginner like me.... i still dont know.... my guess is from the mk2 usb C....connect to the laptop's 2nd usbA port..... ?
If I hook the speakers to the audio interface, would I need to hookup the power cable on the speakers as well or am I getting power from the audio interface? Thanks
Could you do a video on using the Scarlett 4i4 for reamping guitars while using studio monitors/headphones? (Kinda confused with the output routing) Say I want to connect the reamp box to line output 1 and line input 3 (since I'll be using headphones to direct monitor). Would it work out just fine?
Great idea for a video! Thanks. The signal flow would look like this: Focusrite Output > Reamp Box Input > Reamp Box Output > Guitar Amp Input > Guitar Amp Speaker > Microphone On Amp > Microphone Output > Focusrite Input In your DAW, you route the guitar DI signal out of the interface to the reamp box and into your guitar. You'll be setting up a new track for recording the microphone. Choose whichever inputs and outputs you want, just be sure to set up the correct I/O settings in your DAW.
I am using an audio interface with two mics for my podcast. Can someone please help me with a query? I want to record two seperate audio files for both the mics, how can I do that?
QUESTION: with an audio interface, can I listen to the music I’m making if I plug my headphones into the headphone monitoring area of the interface? Or will I only hear the microphone that’s plugged into it?
I could really use some help trying to complete my problem. I’m trying to equalize my audio for gaming. I have focusrite solo and an older focusrite 6i6. Rode nt1a mic and studio headphones. I have a MacBook and windows laptop. Playing with Xbox i plan on using 3.5mm controller output to split mic and game audio. What software would you use to adjust audio? (Hopefully free. lol) and I’m just assuming i would have to be able to keep mic and game audio separate? Thanks in advance
Most audio interfaces have balanced line level outputs, so you shouldn't need one as long as you connect it to the line input of your mixer. If you connect to the microphone input on a mixer, it may help to use a DI.
If you're monitoring voice recording with headphones, I guess there's no reason for studio monitors? Are they just for playback if you don't want to wear headphones to listen?
The interface I use is the Native Instruments Komplete Audio 1, and I want to connect my gaming headset (I'll be switching to studio headphones soon). However, this doesn't work as intended. When I plug the 6.35mm jack into the headphone jack of the interface, I get sound, which seems great. But, my system stops receiving sound from the XLR line input until I disconnect the headphones. I've seen recommendations about "routing" the outputs and inputs correctly, but I'm unfamiliar with this term and unsure how to fix it. I hope someone in this great community can help me with this dilemma. Also, is it possible to turn a mono line input, into stereo by tweaking some settings?
This was great. However I am really at a loss to setup my system with my mxl condenser mic. I have a usb soundcard connected to an amplifier with speakers connected to the amp. Works great for everything. When I try to connect my M audio Fast Track to my mic I get no sound. Any help is appreciated.
I was able to get sound from my PreSonus AudioboxUSB 96 to headphones, THANK YOU!! Does this work in Ableton also and how would i connect my interface to my Yamaha MG10XU to my PC to record vocals and instruments? Appreciate the great tutorial , yours was the only one I was able to follow and actually work with headphones...!! Now i need to "funnel" my mics>mixer>RC-1 loop pedal> to DAW to PC speakers. The settings in Ableton to make this happen are a little confusing due to my lack of experience. I wouldn't be opposed to a video call...?
Thanks, that is another great video. I've looked into the Radial EXTC already which would be perfect if it was also an interface or could send and receive audio to the DAW via USB. I am using an Apogee Duet as my main interface for guitar in and studio monitors out and have no spare inputs or outputs, therefore trying separately to find an interface that I can use as an outboard FX loop for my pedal shelf/rack - for routing to the DAW as an insert (ideally two channels so I can run pre and post amp pedals via a remote MIDI switcher). The closest thing I have found is the Boss IR-2 although it seems a waste to only use it as an FX loop and I don't know that I can disable both its amp and cab sims together. I might have to bite the bullet and get another primary interface with more IO as well as a reamp box as you suggest. Thanks again, great channel. @@AudioUniversity

Yes. You can use one speaker, but you’ll probably want headphones for recording so that the backing track isn’t recorded by the vocal microphone.

If I hook the speakers to the audio interface, would I need to hookup the power cable on the speakers as well or am I getting power from the audio interface? Thanks
You’ll need to use active monitors or place an amplifier in between the interface and passive speakers.
Balanced->Unbalanced can lead to a -6dB reduction in signal, depending on the input design
Could you do a video on using the Scarlett 4i4 for reamping guitars while using studio monitors/headphones? (Kinda confused with the output routing)
Say I want to connect the reamp box to line output 1 and line input 3 (since I'll be using headphones to direct monitor). Would it work out just fine?

The signal flow would look like this:
Focusrite Output > Reamp Box Input > Reamp Box Output > Guitar Amp Input > Guitar Amp Speaker > Microphone On Amp > Microphone Output > Focusrite Input
In your DAW, you route the guitar DI signal out of the interface to the reamp box and into your guitar. You'll be setting up a new track for recording the microphone. Choose whichever inputs and outputs you want, just be sure to set up the correct I/O settings in your DAW.
