Please can I have Ur contact?I found Ur video interesting and I want to learn more from you,I also have some of these equipment at home but truly need a mentor, thanks
Hi taetro i hope you will replyy so i was avle to buy all the equipment that i need already i play 4 music instruments but im really not technologically inclined
So i bought a macbook and oxygen 49 midi keyboard and i have a line 6 ux2audio interface
I play drums keybkard and guitars but i only want to record using ny midi kieyboard and logic pro
My question is do i need an audio interface to use my midi keyboard or do i just connect the midi keyboard straight to the macbook w/ usb c to a cable and no need for audio interface?
Dumb fire content
The real key here is to make sure you know how to play an instrument. I bought all this stuff then realized I couldn't play a single note hahahaha
Hahahaha, this caught me off guard
You don't have to know how to play, but you should have a basic understanding of music.
You are not alone! The gear shows up and people go...oh wait....I need to make the music now?!?
@@Taetroi realize that every time i hit record haha
Me too,, hahaha
"Fight off your perfectionism." What a good thing to remember.
Its important to know how to draw a line, be done. Finish, move to next project.
So important
Just a quick line from a grateful parent for this fantastic video, especially the explanation at the end about the relative order in which to acquire equipment. We are a music family through and through...but analog! My son on the other hand is hugely interested in digital music production, and you gave me what I needed to help him get started.
Such a W parent ong 🔥
You are a good dad
I'm 62 years old, and I have an MPK Mini. Had it for 2 years now tried playing it several times, became so frustrated with it. But your vids are extremely easy to understand. I'm going to try again today. Thank you so much for inspiring me.
how is it did you get it working, im considering gettin one.
What on earth possessed you to get into such a technologically oriented hobby at that age? Do you play piano?
Bruh
@djmayomane I've been into technology since the 80s. I play piano, but I love playing guitar.
@djmayomane Sorry it took me so long to respond. Yes, it works, but, it's a bit complicated. I'm not giving up.
One thing I have to say is don't always rush forward just because you have or got higher end equipment. Like when i got my MIDI controller (which happen to be an Arturia Minilab 3) it also came with higher end software like Ableton Live. But when I ended up actually trying to make a full track i gave up and went back to BandLab cause it was easier and didnt have to use as many externals.
its just tools i think you just got used to it i think using daws you know is always better
8:55 Make sure you get EarPods and not AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth headphones won’t work well for monitoring while overdubbing parts due to latency.
Does it matter if I get the Aux or USB-C version? I've found the USB-C version for slightly cheaper, and I can make it work.
What device are you connecting to? I haven’t tried USB-C headphones but I would expect any wired headphones should have low enough latency for audio production.
I started out and am still operating cheap. I use my iPhone 13 with GarageBand, headphones and a korg nano keys 2. Only cost me about $80 for the korg, headphones, and usb adapter. I love your philosophy of getting your music out there and not letting the pursuit of perfection kill it. Keep up the great videos.
Facts yeah imma start making my beats on garage band but use BandLab for my audio recording
Can you please help me get my stuff done for 80$ and use my iPhone for the first time
This video was extremely helpful, especially since I wasn't sure what to purchase for my setup as far as what was essential and what wasn't. This really explained what everything is meant for and how to build your setup based on how you produce. Since I won't be using any live instruments yet, I can build my gear accordingly.
Thanks a ton for your tutorials and for this information!!
I loved your comment 'fight off the perfectionism' which put it so succintly for me! I started off with music production about 2 years ago with a windows laptop, akai mpk mini 3 and audio technica ath m30x headphones. I didn't start to record guitar and vox til later. Taetro, I don't much like listening to 'lofi' music, but I like making to it. You are awe-inspiring.
Dude, your vids are not only very informative and relatable, but you seem like a truly genuine person. That's very rare in these times. So, cheers to you, my man. Peace and love from VA.
He’s goated lol 😃😭
Video's good. If there's one thing I'd tell myself when I was just starting out is 'it's okay to be frustrated, if you don't get the sound you like. Just start with whatever you can, but practicing everyday would really get you far. I promise. Stick with what you're familiar with. Always fix the issue with what's feels like lacking, improve it day by day and then BAM, you wono't realize you're already there. I stand by using iPad but please, if you can- choose a software and master it.
Talented musician, talented teacher. Happy to see this channel doing so well. It's fully earned.
Thanks for the awesome video. I'm no beginner but I've been thinking of simplifying my setup as I get older and busier, and this looks do-able. A video of you making a song/beat with this setup would be great!
Outstanding content Bro! Figuring out how to get started is by far the most challenging aspect of making music. This tutorial will help tons of eager new musicians. Very valuable info. Stay blessed my friend! ✌🏾🙏🏾💯
Ive been wanting to start producing my own music and your channel has been so helpful thanks.
I love the MPK mini play. It’s a great Midi controller but I love using it to practice finger drumming and piano.
An Ipad is still where I create music. I have a lot of apps already, and getting the same level of software on a laptop would be very expensive. Also, I have found the Samson go mic a very easy to use usb mic that sounds better than decent, and can handle vocals and acoustic instruments. It doesn't need external power when used on an ipad or iphone, and that makes recording a lot more convenient. Great tutorial. BTW!
Thank so much your video helped ALOT !! For a new artist making music this was extremely helpful in me getting my own setup !
Amazing video, thank you for making it easier for the beginners here!
Bro you alright dude need more people like you bro keep it going bro
I think it is great that people are beginning to make music with what they have. A lot of people get pushed away from even trying to make music in the first place because they feel like they need expensive gear that they can't afford though these days, it is far from true.
true!!!
Thank you so much. My whole studio was took for everything. I have to rebuild. It hurts. People like you are so nice and other run life over. Thank you
Thank you, all my questions were answered in a single video.
Don't forget garageband 😅
great starter and also a great daily recording setup mate. really thats all you need if your not producing for bands etc... One addition I would add there is a powered USB hub. Also will fix that midi keyboard from stopping.
Korg Gadget was my first iPad daw, powerful & limiting at the same time. Not the best for mic recording, but it’s great for sequencing the internal instruments.
I am slowly learning keyboarding and at least 90% of my equipment has been bought secondhand, primarily through goodwill. It helps that i know how to do basic soldering and repair.
Crazy how much this helped thx
I initially discovered your channel via your Minimalist Bedroom Studio Guide, so it's interesting to see this follow-up, making the setup as portable as possible.
yes and including all the essentials on a budget! Thanks for watching
This is super helpful, thank you!
Awesome video! I am already pretty much set up, but I enjoyed your video a lot… loved the track you made here! ❤
thank you for this! very helpful!
Such a great video, thanks for the info!
This was so helpful! Man thank you so much, straight to the point. Ive been looking for years how to get a simple setup
excellent let me know how it goes!
You communicate and understand very well on beginners
thx a lot, as a young musician this is very helpful
great video and solid advice !
I'm 27, play guitar for 15 years, but just got tired of playing covers and having to deal with band shenanigans, and the lack of people to play with where I live, so took out the Ableton minilab mk2 I got gathering dust for years and am starting to write, and what fun it's being. Just the part of the frustration, and the joy of getting something I was struggling to be like I want is being amazing, and this is being a very helpful video, thank you
I agree but one thing I notice everyone leaves out of the bare bones setup videos is a designated storage device.
I’d definitely recommend either an external drive/ USB drive , etc… for keeping projects safe or a paid online cloud storage account… (ideally both!) although your computer tablet or phone has storage things happen!
it’s always best practice to have a backup plan not to mention something you can bring with you or load up that’s secure for traveling and colabs!
Aside from that I’m with you 100%
Great point. Microsoft 365 is $6.99 a month and has OneDrive app which is great for storage! Or google drive which is free.
This was an excellent video! My son asked for the Akai MPK mini and I was like “I’m sure you need more than that to get started”. This video was a lot of help. Keep up the good work. Thanks for the video!
Nice to see a supportive parent 😊. Hopefully he's improving his craft still.
AMAZING video! i'm trying to make indie rock with my guitar and this video is very useful!!
thanks a lot my friend its so helpfull
very good idea and the content is very useful and motivating. Thank you
Really helpful. Great video.
Logic Pro on iPad is pretty amazing I recommend this setup too
I badly needed this
Thank you for everithing. The Bandlab it's amazing..😎😎😎🤟
I love this! I have been holding off getting back into writing music for so many reasons (Dad of 2 boys, executive corporate job, insert other excuses here). I wrote music at a time when everything was analog - guitar, piano, cassette - just gave away my age right there. While I am versed with today's tech (PS5, ipad pros) i didn't know where to start - until today. I have an ipad pro, i have a kawaii digital grand piano, but will get a midi controller (eyeing akai based off of this video) and will just ket the music flow. Thank you!
Can resonate... best to you restarting your music!
Thank you for a start
Maaan you really loved it.
I am not a musician and just came here out of curiosity. But I enjoyed that video and now I am discovering the world of sound devices. :)
This really helped me. Thank you for helping us new bees get to be creative
I'm here only for the new bees!! 🐝🐝🐝
Thank you for this video.
Love the insight and all your content is so helpful for my beginner lever entryway
Great to hear!!!
As someone starting out, I was introduced the M-Audio products as they are very budget friendly. I picked up an M-Track Solo Interface (although they have a Duo version for multiple instrument input) as well as a Axiom Air 32 Mini, which has 32 keys, dials and pad bank (only thing missing is an input for a sustain pedal, although it has a toggle switch for this). I presently don't record vocal (too shy about my voice to record it) and record guitar by input rather than mic'd up, but I would look to get a mic next I think. I bought a cheap pair of Roland headphones which I think come with their keyboards. All of this cost me less than £100. I do own a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro, so I take advantage of Garage Band as my DAW, but having seen your recommendation for Band Lab, I might give that a go.
sing bro
I also recommend the kompleate audio 2 it was my first interface and the one I use to this day i have had no problems ever with it
Bro thank you !
THANK YOU SO MUCH TAETRO, I JUST GOT A AKAI MUSIC MACHINE AND THIS WILL GIVE ME A GOOD START?😊😮❤
I was so pleasantly surprised to see so many things that I already have 😂
Great video for beginners .. well done as always!
Thank you so very necessary information)
Great video, thanks
iPad connection issues, I found that some cases the camera connector has a "right" side on the lightning plug that works more consistently with controllers. Tried on Akai MPD218 and Arturia Minilab3.
well done and thank you.
Came at a perfect time, been looking for a beginner music prod. setup thank you!
Perfect!
I've just got an ipad, some mics, an interface and my drums and guitar. never had a midi keyboard but they seem really nice.
Thank you so much.
Thank you for this. I've gone through a couple of mini keyboards an resold them thinking I want a sound pad . What I really want I something that can covert my humming to midi. Cause I can't make sense of the notes and the sound in my head. Something for a small set up is good.
Excellent video.. my laptop just died and I already have all the gear!
Should be a good switch.
The all black M-Vave smk-25 looks really sleek. I'm tempted to but it even tho I have too many MIDI controllers already.
Great video! Food for thought - a Zoom H-series recorder can function as both a standalone recorder and a class-compliant USB audio interface/mic
If owning only a pc or laptop there is a lot one can do also just playing around in ableton and with the free samples one can install which comes free with the program. Think they even offer the full program for free to try over 3 months with saving & rendering.
With passion and creativity there will always be a way for the music to flow & the love for the craft is the limit, where one can always love deeper. 💜 take good care and let the caged bird fly.
I'm here because I don't know much about this tech and I want to learn but it's heartening to hear someone as young as you talking about how they are "blessed" to have what so many others do not. I think your generation is so much better than what those from mine give credit for. Every generation faces it's challenges, and certainly affordable housing is yours, but what I see from so many your age is a very healthy 30,000ft perspective.
Love this video. and when i was browsing Amazon looking at midi controllers, i couldve sworn I saw you modeling in the ad for an Akai! Lol
I just bought an LPK25 for £40, came with 6 months of Reason+, I am so excited arrives Thursday.
Thanks soooooooooooo much
Grate friend. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!
Great summary and advice. Very helpful. Thanks! I'm subscribing and will be back for more.
I’ll do you one better. Just the iPad. The iPad has a very good touchscreen, so you can play piano on it. The iPad actually has a pretty good microphone, so you can sing into it. The iPad has a USB-C port, so if you want to plug in a better microphone, or even a piano into it, you would be totally able to do so. I make music on my iPad using Logic Pro for iPad, and it has not limited me at all to not have a keyboard. I do have a microphone, though; that is a good choice. To use a microphone, headphones are also extremely important. Have a good one.
thank you !
You're welcome!
Thanks
thank you
Hey Taetro thanks again for a helpful vid. I just wanted to ask about the songs we are hearing throughout the vid...are they completely created and outputed from Bandlab????
i made my first EP entirely on my ipad!!!
just got logic pro on free trial (as I'm already familiar with Garageband) to start producing for real. there's a lot to learn and do (like I literally don't have any gear except my Mac) but at least for now I'm quite determined to learn XD)
Great one
I chose a Behringer Swing as midi keyboard. Has arpeggiator.
Thank you so much!!
thanks for watching!!
All those things are so expensive 😭😭
Buy used 🤷♂ You don't need to buy new.
Get the audio technica headphones first
yeah man, nothing is cheap! but it’s gonna be worth it if you are really into making music.
Great recommendations and ideasfor beginners set up i also used my phone and bandlab and headset and do vocals as well great amazing ideas for beginners music productions on a tight budget ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Taetro &Musical Genius forevermore❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
THANK YOU. Thank you so much for this video. I’m an absolute idiot when it comes to the technical part of music making
thanks
im 15 yo and i started making music (shit music back then) when i was 12. i connected my digital piano with usb midi to my laptop and used lmms. no audio interface (i had some really bad latency)
i have a friend that got started recently and he got a cheap 32 key midi controller and now an audio interface
if i was starting now i'd get a midi controller with at least 1 knob and some pads and thats it. then an audio interface like the maudio mtrack solo and a cheap sm57 copy from thomman or behringer (i have one and works great)
for me the limitations make you more creative, and when you master what you have then you are ready to upgrade your gear
You’re way ahead of where I was at 15
@@Taetro ty taetro! You have been an inspiration for me for a while and im very happy of that :)
Would love to try this set up to teach children music tech and loops etc in a workshop situation (no pc's). What Im wanting more info on is how you get a ipad mini to power up the controller and the mixer, when they both require a powered source(as you would be able to get on a pc)? Tia
bravo..i like that Arturia MiniFuse setup. i still remember when you demo that ipad app 'beat hawk'...
Wowwww what a blast from the past. Thank you for the support after these years
Get the MPK mini plus instead as it has transport controls and a real mod wheel which is critical, and it's only slightly more. The ATH m50x headphones are a studio standard worldwide, I wouldn't say they are that basic, and I'd agree that they really are the right entry point for headphones. You can't fix what you can't hear and they have a pretty good faithful reproduction. They're also specifically a good choice because you can wear them for 8 hours without your ears getting sore. You can skip the Audio interface just by getting a USB mic like the m-Audio one unless you need to record instruments direct in like synths. And even then, for starting out, the line in isn't that bad. I even have tracks where somebody used the onboard mic on a pair of AirPods and with a little audio processing, once it's layered in - you can barely tell. If you have a fancy juicy Mogue synth, sure you want ever curve of that delicious analogue smoosh, but then you're not just starting out so... I'm not so sanguine about the software choice. I haven't had the best experiencing with editing software on a touch surface system personally. That might be the place I plunk down some cash an just get Logic Pro. Being able to effectively manipulate audio and midi really makes a massive difference in your ability to develop a fast smooth workflow which is crucial for an enjoyable experiencing making music. When things get in your way, it starts to degrade the vision you have in your head on how the song should hear, and you start thinking about annoying software instead, and you loose what you have in your mind's eye which can be frustrating.
This is an excellent start to a journey I've been putting up for years. After starting a podcast during covid times, I found myself with some gear that can transfer into this Platform. Microphones, And an audio interface from SweetWater ~✓ I'm Looking forward to adding your Suggestions as money allows. Thanks for the Wealth of knowledge..

The beat that plays in the background! Is it 1 that you produced? Sounds so nice!
