  • Surviving Idaho roommate Bethany Funke is arguing she should not have to testify at Bryan Kohberger’s June preliminary hearing. Marc Klaas had to testify in a courtroom after his 12-year-old daughter Polly was kidnapped and killed in 1993. During an appearance on NewsNation's "Banfiled," Klaas shares his perspective on Funke.

Mr klass is a very kind man. I remember him coming to my elementary school in the early 90s. I just remember giving him the biggest hug. It was probably that moment I told myself I didn’t want children. I couldn’t imagine bringing a life in to this world just to be brutally raped and murdered. This was the same time as Jon benet Ramsey. I’m grew up in a little town called linden. We had two serial killers living in this tiny farming community. It was an eye opening upbringing….the 80s were the last good ol days….

    • @BhappyD
      @BhappyD Год назад +3

He’s such a genuinely good and kind person. I wish I could give him a hug, too! He has made something wonderful out of his daughter’s horrific tragedy. That takes such an incredible, practically superhuman, amount of inner strength. He has done his daughter proud, and gave her a beautiful legacy. He made sure her memory and legacy was about more than her final moments. He made sure the evil that took her didn’t win. It’s truly incredible to witness a father so filled with love, passion and dedication. God bless him.
And as a 90s kid, I’d include the 90’s as the last good ol’ days as well. I’d give anything to go back to the world and society that existed in my childhood. So much less hatred and division. We seemed to be the last generation that played outside until the street lights turned on to go and eat dinner. So carefree. The neighborhood was our playground. The internet was barely used (partly because of how slow dial up was lol), no social media to influence our every thought and action. I see children today and my heart breaks for them knowing the kind of world they are living in, knowing the kind of childhood they should be having but aren’t/can’t. Nobody really cared what political ideology you had. Being friends with people of differing ideologies and beliefs, and respecting a difference of opinion, was the norm, and rarely discussed. Personal beliefs were not weaponized. Your character and actions towards others was what truly mattered most, no agendas involved. It was just an all around happier, carefree and more joyful world to live in. Sure, evil still existed and there were still problems and struggles in society, but they were minor compared to the world we are currently facing. Then 9/11 was the catalyst of society’s downfall. The rose colored glasses of safety, security and freedom were officially shattered, never to be repaired. Everything seemed to escalate after that point. And now we’re here. A broken world so foreign to how things were 20-30 years ago.
I had alwyas wanted to be a parent, I longed for it. With health will likely never allow it, but even if I was healthy, no matter how much I longed for it, I’d be terrified to bring a child into this world. Threats are around every corner, and it just keeps getting harder and harder to parent and protect your child from being subjected to the evil trying to grab hold of them in every way possible. Predators are no longer just at playgrounds, they now exit in the palm of your hand right at your fingertips. I’d be a nervous wreck. I pray for any parent trying to navigate this world.

Plus, if she was drunk or on another substance that’s a downer she could have very easily slept through it as well.
I honestly think she may know more.. maybe she met him at a party before or maybe she’s the one that he was DMing and maybe she answered a couple times not knowing what would come? All of that is a stretch maybe, but for them to subpoena her, and her to fight it, I really feel like it’s gonna be more than she didn’t hear anything or see anything.. And honestly, any of the roommates having a casual conversation or interaction with him could make room for reasonable doubt. “It was a party house and he was a party goer” “he just left late that night” it’s a theory I’ve actually seen getting thrown out since the police footage of the party going on with none of the girls home..

The fact that out of the two she's the one being called to testify speaks volumes and the only thing she can say if she's telling the truth is "I don't know, I was asleep", period.
Yes, there's trauma, yes she's a survivor but not testifying will open the door for him to appeal, if he's found guilty.
If there is contradicting evidence and testimonials she should testify and clarify whatever there is.
Also, by not testifying defense can and will dragged the hell out of her if there is contradicting evidence and testimonials and they will be able to play it in court.. That is even worse.
They will go after the detectives and everyone who talked to her and recorded her declarations to police.
This is bad and we have to stop putting emotions first when it comes to matters of law and order.
It can go south quickly, this is not the Murdaugh case...

I think she needs to, its probably mostly going to consist of, were you home that night, what time did you get home, did you see or talk to any of the victims, what time did you go to sleep, did you hear any noises. Then its going to be about her getting up, and what happened when they found them, and they might ask her about the parties at the house, had she ever saw Bk at any of them, could he had been at any of them before, did she know him. Did she know if any of the others ever knew him or had him over at any time, etc.....

Accused has the constitutional right to cross examine witnesses against them.
No sympathy for the roommate who “ it will be too stressful - B. S!”Deal with it! How come you went back to sleep? How come you and your fraternity friends took so long to call the cops?
No way you thought your roommates who were viciously murdered - were just asleep.

If I was that man that father I would have tagged him in the courtroom having no care about what any judge says

I'm struggling to understand why anyone would think it's ok to refuse.

Me too. If she’s telling the truth from her perspective nothing bad can happen. She’s a very sketchy witness.

She isn't refusing. The motion to quash has to do with being improperly served.

She needs to talk. She lived in that house. Every suspect or witness should have to talk. I know she has been through a lot, but this is the law.
