I lived in Savannah when Mikey died in 2002. A few months later I was going to my friends place and had a WSP shirt on…my friends neighbor, an older lady, said “my son was in that band”. My buddy had been living next to Mikey’s mom for a year and had no idea. Reason I mention this is he lived right across the street from Pinkie Master’s, so when I first heard these lyrics it made perfect sense. His mom was super sweet, I felt terrible for her.
Forgot about this album. just popped up on my recommended yt. Started seeing mikey when he was still standing! Miss his lingering lead! Some of the best times of my and my wifes lives down on the rail or up in the tapers section...
I finally made it back to Folly Beach, been 15 years. Just had a bucket of steamed oysters and talked about all the fun times we’ve had with this band over the past 25 years.
Awesome. Cannot explain how much he nailed the trip as much as he nailed the feeling...I made it countless times coming home from UGA to Savannah. Favorite part is the O.C. Welch reference---"Go see O.C."
lowcountry boy here, been many years since ive been back but this tune paints such a beautiful memory.A youngin myself i missed mikeys days but cherish what he left behind, thanks for sharing!
Started following WSMFP in 2005, unfortunately I didn't know Mikey, but I keep digging up what I can find of old Panic..but this song is just...too much gets me in the feels. And brings 😢 tears I've read alot about him and the kind soul that he was..RIP Mikey missed and loved by so many
Mikey had such a profound impact on so many during his life and continues to do so now that he has left earth. I rarely read comments and never post. I was inspired by what has been shared here over the years and wanted to give thanks. Miss ya Mikey
You know, it's just reenforced how old I've gotten because there's an entire generation out there that has never seen Mikey live. That kinda blows me away.
It's hard to believe that it's been over a decade without Mikey;August 2002...RIP saw over 75 shows with that man at the helm for Widespread..."my friend Mikey plays in a Band in Heaven...Here's to the Carolina Boys, Spreadhead North Carolina:)
this song brings back so many memories, especially having gone to georgia southern, huge panic fan, and road trip'n to savannah, charleston, the golden isles and georgia's coast.. man i miss it!
Saw the “Boys “early 90s at Oak Mtn. Been a fan ever since . Mikey is Mikey no need to compare . It’s a diff band now but still killing it! Happy I am as a clam!
I was talking with a buddy the other day about the fact that if Mikey was still alive, we'd most definitely still be touring. Now we follow Billy Strings on tour😅
Saw those and also upriver at Augusta OPO, Augusta Riverwalk pre-JoJo when Mikey WAS the nearly the only sound heard, the one that shaped their whole direction.
Very nice Widespread Panic fan video with the sense of place that is in Mike Houser's song. It is a road song from Athens to Savannah, Georgia, with South Carolina and the low country in mind. The video follows the geography and personality of the lyrics. This slideshow is a fine memory of the late great guitarist, and a good sample tune from the posthumous Michael Houser - Sandbox album. Thanks for posting! Related content, "Mike Houser solo Smoke & Burn" video on my channel.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. I've often try to get people to do a standing Mikey sticker. One Love RIP mikey
Just now finding this, God I miss Mikey!

Listen, getting ready for 20th anniversary in a few days. Hope it’s on the tube, can’t make the show. Peace 😎
As a young-in, i never got to see a mikey show. thank you to recordings like this that make me feel connected to a man I never knew.
We didn't know him either brother
Fk y’all make me feel like old fkr , wellll.. No Cryin Now!

Never got to see Mikey, and I support Jimmy Herring in his candidacy for President, but Jesus Mikey was amazing
True story Drew, seeing Mikey was just always over the top.
Agree, I miss him greatly but it was simpler times for us older panic fans so enjoy every show brother!!! 😎
Top shelf stuff. I miss the dude.
Holy! Been a Panic fan for decades and saw him play sitting down but I just discovered this and his other tracks. Beautiful song!
All of “Sandbox”!

I absolutely love this one man. Mikey's simplistic dynamics were so misleading.
This video is heartbreaking
Magic Michael!!!!!!
Thank you for posting this and thank you Mikey for writing it. =)
Love love
Thanks Mikey
RIP Mikey...still in my mind and heart
It just occurred to me while listening to this some that Kurt Vile vocals sound a lot like Mikey. It’s a compliment to both musicians.
very nice, thank you!
Widespread has never been the same since the passing of their "lingering lead".
very groovy video. healing....
Dang.
I saw him once...Nov 2001
