Raised by his overprotective mother, Helen (Kathy Bates), Bobby Boucher Jr. (Adam Sandler) is the water boy for a successful college football team coached by Red Beaulieu (Jerry Reed). When Beaulieu fires Bobby, he takes up the same position for a losing rival team, led by despairing Coach Klein (Henry Winkler). After witnessing Bobby beat up a player who teased him too much, Klein adds him to the roster as a linebacker. Soon, Klein's players are championship contenders.

Did you see her in American Horror story Coven? I mean she was captivating and hysterically funny AND a deranged murderous monster. Not something that many people could have pulled off.

I saw an interview clip with Conan where Kathy Bates says she almost turned down her part. At the time, she didn't know who Adam Sandler was, but thankfully her niece did, who picked up the copy of the script that had been thrown in the garbage and convinced Kathy to do it. Honestly, I don't think anyone else would have been able to play Mama Boucher any better.
Henry Winkler is totally missed in this. His comedic chops are so great.

Well said! Its also odd to me though that most people who react to this movie these days seem to not understand that Bobby is definitely a person who is a little "touched in the head", so to speak. Hes like a timid Forrest Gump, a Forrest Gump minus the confidence. These reactors weren't bad about it, but most I've watched got instantly offended the second Sandler's first line of dialogue happened 🤷🏻♂️
@@biggains1 It's sadly how things are going. hopefully live studio shows can made a comeback at come point. I know that sounds off-topic, but things like that help people learn humour collectively. Everyone is too afraid to laugh nowadays in case someone calls them a monster!

And the follow up flashback of him on the disconnected phone to his Mother, while wearing high heels 😂 Idk why they were so confused by that, its a comedic visual portrayal showing that he had a mental breakdown because of that other coach. He lost his confidence, i.e. his manhood. It ain't rocket surgery lol

I remember watching this when it came out. My best friend was Cajun and he understood everything Farmer Fran was saying. I was like "how?" and he said "dude, he sounds exactly like my uncle Remy."
What he means by “he took his manhood” is that he challenged him and punked him into submission, he didn’t even try to say no or put up a fight, which is why he said he took his manhood because he felt less of a man for not standing up for himself, which is why he encourages Bobby to stand up for himself because he doesn’t want him to end up like the himself the Coach, scared and afraid to say something. I have watched this movie about 1 million times since I was 8-9 years old since it came out, and as goofy and funny as it is, there are actually life lessons in there, because the whole premise of this movie is to never be afraid to stand up for yourself, and be the best version of yourself possible. Great reaction! If I may suggest a few football movies that are also comedy, The Little Giants, The Replacements, Varsity Blues, and The New Guy is a great direction to go. Keep it up 👍👌🤘😂
Kathy Bates said this was the most fun she’s ever had making a movie and her niece begged her to take the part!
This is one of those Adam Sandler comedy films that my family and I enjoy watching non-stop, and at the same time being the most quotable films that we tend to quote on from _"Girls are the Devil”_ and _"Momma Said Alligators are ornery... 'cause they got all them teeth but no toothbrush."_
Also Farmer Fran with the unintelligible Cajun accent and voice was such a riot.🤣

The coach had a mental breakdown, that's why he was talking on a phone that wasn't connected to anything while wearing women's shoe's. His grandmother was probably dead the shoe's where hers and he was talking to her from beyond the grave. Either way he was totally messed up in the head.
Oh man this takes me back. The whole family was dying of laughter when Bobby said she's not the devil and the water sucks scene.
This was indeed hilarious Tim. What with Farmer Fran just being weird, nobody understanding what he’s saying, & ofc Sandler & his hallucinations & his insane mom & equally crazy coach & colonel sanders, waterboy was just a hilarious chaotic mess
The only time I can really guess what Farmer Fran is saying is after Bobby's first game and Vicky is tuning his lawn mower. I'm pretty sure he says: "We live to fight another day." And then maaaaybe "How you doin?"
This movie may not have aged great, but MAN is it still funny even after all these years. XD

dropped out in sophomore year, did the GED. the "hard" part was writing an essay which meant making something up about a passion. I literally wrote about rock collecting which i've never done or had an interest in. bobby can write about water and do a whole novel
As someone who used to collect rocks and name them, I'll let that slide lol😂
I always love how Mama tackles Roberto at the end. She probably wanted to do that for many many years. I LOVE Kathy Bates as Mama, I can't imagine anybody else as her. All of the main characters in this movie were cast well, really. This is tied with Happy Gilmore for my all time favorite Adam Sandler movie, with Little Nicky coming in second to those two.

The BAD NEWS BEARS (1976 - - the original). This is a brilliant, funny, raw, moving film. It's the film that launched a thousand kids' sports movies, too. It's widely counted in the top of the top lists of both kids and sports movies. Please, someone react to this movie this year!! Maybe you guys!!
The water boy is a great funny movie, and the comedy is very incredible.

It’s been on tv a lot lately and it’s always fun. Always great to see beautiful Clariss back.
Saw this in theatres back in 99 on opening night. Whole place was laughing. Grew up on Adam Sandler movies, been a fan since his SNL days. A lot of his characters voices and other characters his buddies play come from his old comedy CDs
A few great sports comedies in no particular order: (Outside of Adam Sandler)
-The Replacements(Keanu Reeves)
-Necessary Roughness(Scott Bakula)
-Major League(Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes)
-Here Comes the Boom(Kevin James)
There are way too many to list but these are some of my absolute favorites off the top of my head.

You likely don't know, but the announcers at the "Bourbon Bowl" were very popular college football hosts. Brent Musburger and Dan Faust. Faust was also a quarterback for the San Diego Chargers. A really, really good one.

I always got this movie and the remake of The Longest Yard confused when I was younger because Adam Sandler playing football. Now I remember as this is the one with Henry Winkler and no Chris Rock or WWE Superstars.

The guy who played Roberto or Bobby Bushays father is the actual director who likes to insert himself into small roles in his films also like the movie CLICK.
I would have never watched this movie in a million years, but some good friends made me watch it one day and I've been a fan ever since. I'm not a big fan of all of Adam Sandler's comedies, but he has a few really great gems in there, and the Waterboy is one of the best. The supporting cast here is one of the best as well, with Henry Winkler & Kathy Bates being two of the standouts, with the icing on the cake being the late great Jerry Reed.

Which one? The only one I've seen is the 2005 remake with Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni. The original was released in 1977.
I saw it in theaters twice. I watched it with my parents the 1st time. The 2nd time my sibling and I paid to see another movie but we walked out of the movie and I convinced them Fun with Dick and Jane was great. They loved it too. I need to rewatch it now that you mentioned it lol

I loved it ! I'm more chill now but I loved playing ball. Did not like offense because you had to think. Our defense was see the the ball ,first one to get it or injure the person with it gets a cookie.

The point with the dad at the end was based on his character from the beginning, he leaves his pregnant wife or mother of his very young child one of the two. And he does it for big city living. He's a posser who wants to live the lifestyle of someone better then himself. He wanted nothing to do with his kid till he heard his kid was going to be drafted to the NFL and make a lot of money, so he came back to try and be his manager, and get his 10 percent. Then maybe mooch a bunch more off his kid all while living in a big fancy house which he would be expecting his kid to pay for even though they both lived there and he had a bunch of people over at all times. All mooching off poor Bobby and his talent.
A movie to remind us all how important water and hydration is😅
