Personally, I couldn't care less if a movie chooses to change a detail of the original story to add representation as long as said representation feels more naturally integrated into the plot, and if it's done badly or comes off as virtue signalling, I just find it mildly annoying/cringe. It seems odd to me that getting *legitimately enraged* by these movies has become the norm for so many people in this group, even though plenty of movies have been having blatant left-leaning political themes in them even before the 2010's came about (for instance, They Live!, a movie from 1988, is a pretty blatant satire of Reaganomics, which basically would've been the 80s equivalent of satirizing the Trump administration). More progressive takes on classic stories has been a thing for far longer than the far right likes to pretend it has, and I'm annoyed at how popular of a trend it's become for people online to bash a movie solely because it's "woke" (aka, it has politics that are slightly more liberal than they'd prefer, or not all the characters are white), especially when, in my humble opinion, it's such a non-issue to even bother getting worked up over, that the complaining you see from groups like The Daily Wire just comes across as looking pathetic.

As much as i dislike the quality of a lot of the remakes, sequals, and "se-boots" (soft reboot, sequal reboots) i just remind myself that the originals still exsist and as long as Disney and Warner Brothers quit deleting media, and releasing copies with weird changes and edits, theres always that original version to go back to and I can just be normal about it.

The thing that gets me about conservative outrage is that not only is their criticism of a lack of originality taking away the wrong points, but they're not even good at showing that they're better. You'd think they would advertise and get out more stuff than a retelling of Snow White, another retelling of King Arthur, and not-Bluey. Hell, they'll even despise reimaginings and reboots that do take drastic departures and radically reinvent stuff in a great way if they still have politics that don't align with their's. She-Ra is one of the best current examples of how to reboot something and they despise it even more than a lot of grey sludge, boring af remakes because there's gay couples and overt queercoding in it.

Some really good ones came out this year. Most of them underperformed. It sucks, but most people are only interested in sequels/remakes/reboots if they are paying to see a movie.

I knew a guy who was home schooled. Not only as he socially rather stunted, but he was also forced to be vegetarian because that's what his parents were. Literally, the first time I saw him after he'd moved out to go to university, he pulled out a packet of salami and started eating slices as if that was the most natural thing to do in the world. I worry about children who might be gay or trans, exhibiting behaviours that aren't considered 'normal for their gender' in the types of households that would buy into this Daily Wire BS, but I have to hope if we can keep the rest of the world as a chill place for them, nature will heal.
Yeah, I know a number of people who were raised vegetarians that went a bit crazy for meat once they left home - like eating rare steaks and having meat in nearly every meal. Some did go back to being vegetarian when they were faced with their personal morals though. It was almost as though it was forbidden fruit and they went wild with the freedom. It was very similar to the response young people have when they're raised in a conservative home and they're told that sex, drugs and alcohol are temptations from the devil. It causes it to be desirable; humans love to do anything that's 'taboo'

DW's "alternative" products are just as soulless as the Disney remakes. Only difference is DW banks on spite instead of nostalgia. And unlike nostalgia, spite has a time limit. That's why they try to lock you in with an annual subscription. It's also why their Snow White will probably be rushed.
The whole debacle feels like the perfect storm of stupid, on both sides. Disney's doing too-little-too-late for representation (in the _only_ movie where this would be an odd choice), and TDW is blissfully unaware of how racist they look when they try to bill their competing movie on "the leading actress is more white than Disney's leading actress". In one corner, Disney's remaking a pretty stale-bread kind of story because they want money - and they don't seem to realize that the original was more a feat of animation instead of a cinematic masterpiece, so moving it to live-action inherently devalues it as a film in some aspects. They're race-swapping the literal _one_ Disney princess who was named after her skin color, because I guess during 8 or so years of remakes they're _just now_ realizing that they can make changes to the material and that people who aren't white can have leading roles, a lesson they should've learned in _2009_ with their last traditionally-animated movie. TDW is remaking Snow White strictly because of their hate-boner for people who aren't white, I guess - and they think it'll be popular because so many people wanted to see "A White Woman - The Movie" on the big screen. They cast _FEM SHAPIRO_ to play the titular White Woman despite the fact that she needs more autotune than Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast, and she looks _way older_ in all that makeup. While Snow White being a white woman is a part of her character, it's not _the entirety_ of her character. The Queen wasn't asking the mirror "Who's the whitest of them all", it was very obviously a question of beauty. Snow White's defining character traits in the original 1937 movie are her gentleness and attunement with nature, not the fact that she gets pulled over by fewer cops. Then they also removed the dwarves from the title, despite the general lack of dwarves being the other big problem the right-wing crowd had with the movie. Disney's casting is OK but inaccurate (kind of like Hamilton), TDW's casting is accurate but painfully bland (kind of like 2020's Mulan). I honestly can't tell which movie will do better domestically.
as someone who cares a lot about accurate adaptations, in the book they clearly state that she has "skin as white as snow" yet this movie shows her skin to be a light beige. IF SHE DOESN"T LOOK LIKE FUCKIN JEFF THE KILLER I AIN'T WATCHING IT!!!

As a once-Princess-obsessed young girl, Snow White has always been the most boring non-character of the entire Disney Princess lineup. I know, right? Personally, I couldn't care less if a movie chooses to change a detail of the original story to add representation as long as said representation feels more naturally integrated into the plot, and if it's done badly or comes off as virtue signalling, I just find it mildly annoying/cringe. It seems odd to me that getting *legitimately enraged* by these movies has become the norm for so many people in this group, even though plenty of movies have been having blatant left-leaning political themes in them even before the 2010's came about (for instance, They Live!, a movie from 1988, is a pretty blatant satire of Reaganomics, which basically would've been the 80s equivalent of satirizing the Trump administration). More progressive takes on classic stories has been a thing for far longer than the far right likes to pretend it has, and I'm annoyed at how popular of a trend it's become for people online to bash a movie solely because it's "woke" (aka, it has politics that are slightly more liberal than they'd prefer, or not all the characters are white), especially when, in my humble opinion, it's such a non-issue to even bother getting worked up over, that the complaining you see from groups like The Daily Wire just comes across as looking pathetic.

The thing that gets me about conservative outrage is that not only is their criticism of a lack of originality taking away the wrong points, but they're not even good at showing that they're better. You'd think they would advertise and get out more stuff than a retelling of Snow White, another retelling of King Arthur, and not-Bluey.
Hell, they'll even despise reimaginings and reboots that do take drastic departures and radically reinvent stuff in a great way if they still have politics that don't align with their's. She-Ra is one of the best current examples of how to reboot something and they despise it even more than a lot of grey sludge, boring af remakes because there's gay couples and overt queercoding in it.

You say that, but when people do make something original, it’s either A, nobody watches it or B, people do watch it and Hollywood being reactionary as ever, will milk it for all its worth until it’s bone dry and people get sick of it. So either way, you lose. The whole industry has been built off of sequels, remakes, and adaptations. It never ends.
Some really good ones came out this year. Most of them underperformed. It sucks, but most people are only interested in sequels/remakes/reboots if they are paying to see a movie.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love see people adapting more less well-known variants of well-known fairy tales around the world (you'd be surprised by how many Snow White variants have been collected just in northern Africa and western Asia) but the Daily Wire are the least people I'd ever trust with handling such material. I knew a guy who was home schooled. Not only as he socially rather stunted, but he was also forced to be vegetarian because that's what his parents were. Literally, the first time I saw him after he'd moved out to go to university, he pulled out a packet of salami and started eating slices as if that was the most natural thing to do in the world.
I worry about children who might be gay or trans, exhibiting behaviours that aren't considered 'normal for their gender' in the types of households that would buy into this Daily Wire BS, but I have to hope if we can keep the rest of the world as a chill place for them, nature will heal.

Yeah, I know a number of people who were raised vegetarians that went a bit crazy for meat once they left home - like eating rare steaks and having meat in nearly every meal. Some did go back to being vegetarian when they were faced with their personal morals though.

DW's "alternative" products are just as soulless as the Disney remakes. Only difference is DW banks on spite instead of nostalgia. And unlike nostalgia, spite has a time limit. That's why they try to lock you in with an annual subscription. It's also why their Snow White will probably be rushed.

The whole debacle feels like the perfect storm of stupid, on both sides. Disney's doing too-little-too-late for representation (in the _only_ movie where this would be an odd choice), and TDW is blissfully unaware of how racist they look when they try to bill their competing movie on "the leading actress is more white than Disney's leading actress".
In one corner, Disney's remaking a pretty stale-bread kind of story because they want money - and they don't seem to realize that the original was more a feat of animation instead of a cinematic masterpiece, so moving it to live-action inherently devalues it as a film in some aspects. They're race-swapping the literal _one_ Disney princess who was named after her skin color, because I guess during 8 or so years of remakes they're _just now_ realizing that they can make changes to the material and that people who aren't white can have leading roles, a lesson they should've learned in _2009_ with their last traditionally-animated movie.
TDW is remaking Snow White strictly because of their hate-boner for people who aren't white, I guess - and they think it'll be popular because so many people wanted to see "A White Woman - The Movie" on the big screen. They cast _FEM SHAPIRO_ to play the titular White Woman despite the fact that she needs more autotune than Emma Watson in Beauty and the Beast, and she looks _way older_ in all that makeup. While Snow White being a white woman is a part of her character, it's not _the entirety_ of her character. The Queen wasn't asking the mirror "Who's the whitest of them all", it was very obviously a question of beauty. Snow White's defining character traits in the original 1937 movie are her gentleness and attunement with nature, not the fact that she gets pulled over by fewer cops. Then they also removed the dwarves from the title, despite the general lack of dwarves being the other big problem the right-wing crowd had with the movie.
Disney's casting is OK but inaccurate (kind of like Hamilton), TDW's casting is accurate but painfully bland (kind of like 2020's Mulan). I honestly can't tell which movie will do better domestically.

They rebooted the show as, "Louder and Prouder" in... 2020? To be fair, both sides have been critical at just how badly it portrays race relations and an animator behind it said he and a number of other employees working on the project tried to pushback on episodes but the director was worried more about the design of the dresses the characters would wear and what jokes they could be allowed to say.
I suggest you look up, "Portraying Black Issues In Media - The Proud Family vs. Moon Girl" by Jesse Golo, and I promise you won't have to deal with terms like woke to bog down the criticism.

to be fair Rachel Zegler did come off as super annoying and unlikable while talking about Snow White and also lied about how often she watched it and how often she went on the ride at Disney for some reason. People like The Quartering overreacted to it of course but I understand people watching those clips and being like "she seems obnoxious as hell."

First of all, not a chance in hell Brett Cooper grew up with the Grimm's fairy tales. No one really has in the modern era. Second, they aren't doing a Grimm adaptation so who gives a shit. Third, beyond it not being relevant from a production standpoint, the brother's Grimm version is SO wildly different that its funny to even highlight it as if they're adapting it. They're not. They're doing an asylum style knock off of the Disney version, which itself is very different from the Grimm version. It's proof these people just want to hear specific things, and they don't put any thought into thinking about what's actually being said.
