Great review! I decided to trade in my Tacoma and order one after a test drive. For me, Santa Cruz is just going to be a much better daily driver that will keep me from getting stuck in the snow and take me out to the mountains on the weekend and has just enough of a bed for my needs.
@@hannsolo51 Congrats! I don't think we're alone. I've had a couple of full size truck guys come up to talk about it and both times I thought they were going to talk S**t about it but they said really liked it and we're thinking about something smaller and more city friendly.
Super job here Nolan on your presentation and delivery as well as covering the day to day idiosyncrasies that a buyer would encounter. It’s nice to see these types of vehicles as you said for folks who don’t want a full blown truck. This Santa Cruz does look useful and practical and comfortable. I hope that Hyundai sells lots of them so that this vehicle can evolve and get that back seat center armrest next time around as well as a volume knob on that audio system. And I agree she needs a sunglasses holder, I always look for a sunglasses holder and it’s almost a dealbreaker if a car doesn’t have one! Big misstep on Hyundai’s part here. Almost as bad as Honda not giving the top level Civic adjustable lumbar. Thanks for your work and analysis here Nolan! Have a great weekend! Oh and I liked that color of Gray!
Wow! Nice presentation. I actually saw one at a dealership in Jax yesterday, and wish that I had watched this before I went. I am in the market for a small truck, because at age 64 I no longer need my sierra with the 5.3 that will pass everything on the road but a gas station! The fact that you mentioned lack of control knobs was an important detail. Indeed a lot can happen at 65mph when you get distracted by a touch screen. Thank you again for your well put together video; however, a nod to the old El Camino would have been nice!. Woops there goes the age thing! Kidding...job well done!
Funny that the generator that grew up with touch screen technology complains about it in a car, I’m 70 and love it! My iPad, iPhone, microwave, and stove have touch screen, love the touch screen in my 2023 Santa Cruz!
Another great review!...edging up on 100K subs! Comparing the shallow under bed storage on the Santa Cruz to the RIdgeline, I'm guessing Hyundai couldn't go very deep since the spare tire is below. At least with the Santa Cruz, you won't have to unload the cargo area to get to the spare.
Great review! Solidifies my decision to order one! Should be here soon. Three weeks ago I made the huge mistake of trading my 2022 Tucson on a 2022 SantaFe XRT. I LOVED the Tucson and really didn’t need to trade it but the SantaFe just struck me with its all-black look. My only gripe with the Tucson was lack of power and the SantaFe has the same engine. How I thought a heavier vehicle with the same engine would be any zippier I have no idea. Its painfully slow. So, I ordered the Santa Cruz this week. Getting the limited too because I like toys, lol.
I would go with the Subaru Baja instead if it was still in production. This does look somewhat cool depending on the color. Thanks Nolan for an excellent review.
Try to get the 18in tires with the bigger stance and ride much better. The 20s really suck on the Beach and any off road. The 18s are much better looking too.
Great vehicle. I should buy one the 2nd year after they fix some small things and dealers quit price gauging. The rear seat has been cheaped out. A slot in the bottom of the doors for A water bottle like the front wouldn’t cost much. A middle folding armrest in back, power passenger seat, volume and AC knob ( never mind, just put the 8” screen from cheaper trims) and the tow hitch is 6” off the ground, it will drag over bumps.
This is a nice truck and we are interested in one, but my husband looked at a Carfax for a local vehicle. There is an open recall for the dual clutch transmission that currently has “No known remedy.” Its a dealkiller because neither of us want to get stuck on the road with loss of motive power. Don’t know if the 2023’s will have the same trans.
Definitely a cool looking vehicle and I’m happy to see these small ‘trucks’ back on the market. I wish more manufacturers would get back into the game…do I hear Subaru BRAT!?! Anyways, the SE and SEL seem like a decent value, but $41k for the Limited may be just a bit overboard.
Nolan idk why but I like this vehicle...although I probably wouldn't purchase it for myself. Awesome review as usual sir👏👏👏!!! How did you feel driving such a unique looking car? Embarrassed(especially after what your boss said) or in a class of your own(because it's so unique)?
I hear that the transmission gets a lot smoother after the break in period and the mileage gets better too! Mine should be at the dealers by Christmas! Can’t wait!
@@jamesacquard8003 Order Placed! 🤘But i have to wait 1 month :( the car should arrive by June 19, I never had to wait for a car this long, dealers here in NYC don’t even have them for test drive, i saw this car on the streets like 1 or 2 times, its pretty rare right now, at least here in NY
You have to keep a nice dust rag with you because of the black. Bull crap it won't scratch. They have already thought of it . The USB is a real pain in the butt to get too in Park. My wife already screwed up the up the SUB . Have to order a new plug. You will Love how easy it to car wash. Everything gets better after Breakin . Dudes this thing makes almost 300hp and 315 torque. I have the need for speed! You open up the exhaust and a K&N filter I bet you hit 300HP . The Clutch gets better and smother. It has a dual clutch for better performance. Take it from a real car guy this is a great truck!
The "Hyundai Hesitation" is what I call it... every Hyundai that I have owned, 4 of them, starting with the first Gen Santa Fe has had that "jerkiness" "hesitation" with the transmission even with the Tucson Hybrid....and it only gets more frequent as the car gets older.
Hey Buddy, Glad you’re still pumping out quality reviews! I think this Santa Cruz missed an oppritunity that would be the back seat folding forward and with a larger passthrough from the bed. LIke the Old Chevy Avalanche. Thank you have a great Week! :)
No radio volume Knob and all touch screen ?? is a deal breaker for me , And having to plug into truck for Android auto ?? Not good !! Along with No panoramic Sunroof ??? and the duel clutch transmission is jerky !! Not for $40,000 dollar price tag ?? Wait until 2023 come and see if they fix these problems !!!
Now if only they can make it into an full EV instead of a smelly dinosaur sucking antique. Then I would buy it. Love the vehicle, test drove one even….but EVS are the future. Not gas/propane/diesel/hydrogen.
What’s interesting is that you get physical volume and climate control knobs 🎛 on all lower trims, only Limited comes with that inconvenient touch “piano black”panel, also all lower trims have Wireless Apple/Android car play, I think its a great feature that not that many cars have, in conjunction with wireless charging its very convenient, also I love the fact that you can use your smartphone to open/close and start the car, it uses NFC protocol. The only thing that every reviewer never checks is - audio system, i know on Limited you have Bose, it should be good quality, but I’m very interested in SEL Premium, I heard the audio system there sucks, of course you can always replace the speaker’s for a better ones, anyway I already ordered this vehicle in the same Hampton Gray color, finally I’m gonna own a car with the color that i love and not the simple ones that are available, the only bummer is inventory… These cars are out of stock, i have to wait another month for it to arrive, also I barely see them on the streets, for now this car is a rarity at least here in NYC…

Exactly! Just traded in my Sierra 1500 and ordered one for all those same reasons lol.

I'm in the very same boat.
Beautiful LED Daytime Running Lights and headlights

Very nice review. Glad you spent most of the review driving vs walk around. I’m actually picking up my ice white limited tomorrow. Can’t wait.👍
very in depth, great job reviewing the Santa Cruz

Good review man.
Great review...Hyundai has really upped their game since coming in to the US market. Also, I really like the detail you provide in your reviews.

Saw one at the dealer the other day and it's so cool 👍😀
Good review.
At 41k it’s a lousy value but a good value if you pick up the base model for around 25k. Even the base models are well equipped.
Great review! Solidifies my decision to order one! Should be here soon.

2:11 I'm gonna do what's called a pro-gamer move.
Gray colors are hard to see by big trucks they blend in with the road and also cost my on your insurance. We bought the Stone Blue and Love it.
Try to get the 18in tires with the bigger stance and ride much better. The 20s really suck on the Beach and any off road. The 18s are much better looking too.

Just finely God to use my heated seat. Awesome. I put my own Extra trim on the inside. I needed to break up the black.
Awesome review! Love the limited but them taking away wireless car play on a higher end trim is a deal breaker for me. Otherwise nice little truck.
Yes that is something that makes no sense whatsoever.

If I took a shot every time he said "I'll talk about that in a second" I'll be drunker than a skunk.
I hear that the transmission gets a lot smoother after the break in period and the mileage gets better too! Mine should be at the dealers by Christmas! Can’t wait!
How do you like it so far? Any issues with the transmission? I want one, but I'm a bit hesitant.
@@MrSmokingfrog1 I love it! The transmission is just fine! It rides amazingly nice and the turbo makes it very fast!

Rear vent only come on the limited. I wish it came on the SEL Premium.
Do you know if the tonneau cover is an available upgrade after manufacturing development?

The bed lights are fantastic. I didn't want the fake leather seats. Cloth much better in summer.
Seats are ventilated.

They can’t. They found on the avalanche that if it ever rolled over the folding section would simply give away and the cabin would flatten.
It looks like a moon 🌙 vehicle. You could take it to outer space.
Yes it does!
I could see Arnold driving this to the dream place in Total Recall
Hello Нолан, как дела?
Love the vehicle.. it would love a vacuum
Awesome
I've been meaning to get this, but I want to do some camping. is it possible to put a root top tent on this car?
One Thing I don't like is the instrument cluster looks like your 4 year left their tablet on your dash...

Not terribly but Don’t quit your day job.
Noted
That price is just insane...
I agree!
Haven't been shopping for a new car these days, eh?
No one is taking it on the Beach or pulling travel trailers!
Wow
I can good understand why boys want a knop, he he.
