Thank you, Nathan. I am so glad that you purchased what you like. Santa Cruz has its own purpose and character, and exotic look that no other truck has ,and reminds me Subaru Baha, kind of...
Thank you, all of you(4) and TFL. Oh! I forgot to say all 4 of you are very different individually, but when combined, everyone together it becomes a unique unbeatable force.
Korean guy,
Happy Jack, AZ.
The Santa Cruz will be remembered for its uniqueness. The Tuscon is just like any other SUV on the road. Both are great. If you ask a general consensus of what's more preferrable, most men will say the Santa Cruz is more preferrable whereas most women would choose the Tuscon. If you live a more rugged lifestyle, the Santa Cruz is the best option, if you live a more posh lifestyle the Tuscon is the best option.
Agreed. I have a Santa Cruz and use it more for utility. Hauling, loading.
The Tuscon can haul and load (not to the same scale as the Santa Cruz, but my wife feels more content in an suv Tuscon.
The men want the Cruz, the women want the Tuscon.
“rugged” LMAOOOO
@@dazednconfusedrn Rugged as in throwing bikes and dirty stuff in the back, versus you know, taking the kids to soccer practice or one of those ugly tiny white dogs to the groomer lmao
Also Santa Cruz might have better resale value
I’d say the bed of the Santa Cruz and the towing capacity are two solid reasons to not trade it for anything else.
Interesting to see how Santa Cruz fits Nathan's needs well. There is a need for these kinds of trucks!
I already have a truck, my wife and I purchased a 2020 Tucson with the 2.0 non turbo and we absolutely love it it has more back storage than the Pontiac we traded in.
Time for TFL to increase pay so Nathan can buy a power wagon
it's based on RUclips ads that aren't skipped by the viewer, more non-skipped ads means more pay.
The higher trims have lovely heated leather-wrapped steering wheels. Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove mine all through our Canadian winters. (Which are definitely colder than yours!) I do prefer the knobs and buttons of the base center stack over the all-touch stuff in the Limited. Hoping that when we replace my wife's train wreck of an Equinox (2020 and hasn't made it through a single winter without issues yet!) with a Tuscon PHEV. The Tucson is really nice. If the current generation had been out in 2020, that's what we would have bought, but the previous generation was a fair bit smaller.
Just bought a 2023 Tucson limited. Beautiful interior. Beautiful car. Love it.💕
Keep the cruz over the tucson. There's better suv options for the price but the cruz is in it's own niche between the two
Let’s not forget the “cool” factor: the Santa Cruz is cool while the Tuscan is…
The Tucson is too generic to me. There’s nothing else like the Santa Cruz. I never want a car that blends in. I want to be able to walk into a crowded parking lot and instinctively know which car is mine.
I genuinely think I'm seeing a Mach-E anytime I approach a new Tuscon from the rear. It's a mixed bag of designs.
@@allentoyokawa9068 I chose the Maverick I show in videos on my channel.
@@fordmaverickmaniac Maverick has issues along with Ford's mismanagement. The hybriid has problems but at least gets good mileage if that is what you want as your top priority.
Do you think the Santa Cruz is cool? I bet you sit down to pee
Thank you for putting out there that the Santa Cruz and the Tuscon only look the same, and do not share same sheet metal.
I love how you two interact. Nathan is best with closing it by saying I'm just an idiot lol. You're far from it. Great insight, Nathan, both on the Santa Cruz and your sister's POV for Tucson.
I think if you're going Tuscon, you have to go hybrid. The Tuscon is the family/road trip vehicle. I drive a lot so a Tuscon hybrid would benefit me more than the utility and style of the Cruz. Now if they put a hybrid in the Cruz...
I have the Hybrid no comparison to he 2.5👎
Sad that adaptive cruise control is only available on the Limited Santa Cruz which is thousands of dollars more.
I find the Kia sportage prettier than the Tucson. I would keep the Santa Cruz definitely in this case
The SC comes in a Night edition with runners and a blacked out gill and wheels. pretty slick imo. With the turbo 2.5 it has 281 HP
Six years ago, if the Santa Cruz had been around, it would have been my first choice. Now that I'm an apartment dweller, gimme the Tucson.
The Santa Cruz is a cooler car with the utility. Also, the extra 4-5 horsepower is definitely noticeable 😂
Are you kidding me ?? Really? Plastic manifolds ??? 2:57. How long does that last?
My wife drives a 2022 Tucson Amazon grey and I have a sage Santa Cruz. I love both
The Santa Cruz is reasonably cool and quite useful. The Tucson a generic mom-mobile. One word: Shrinkage.
Roman giving a shout-out to WXRT Chicago, 93.1FM! :-) :-)
I never thought I’d see the day where people compared, which Hyundai is better
Deduction of being similar is not a good comparison. If I bought the Santa Cruz, it's because I wanted an open bed vehicle, trucklike, not another damn suv. If Kia would ever make the open bed Soul concept, I would go for it in a heartbeat. It's just that Hyundai and Ford came out with these little trucks first.
I've had the Tucson for 16 months...super comfortable....easy to drive...very quiet...lots of cargo space...35mpg avg with the gas engine...perfect for an old man...the santa cruz would be perfect for a younger me....forget the XRT...its just appearance...spend the money to level up to leather and power liftgate.
35MPG .. is that on the highway ? if so, do you have a hybrid? And would you mind sharing your city driving MPG?
Thanks
@@rohitnijhawan5281here is more detail.... the first 10k miles of driving was 35mpg avg with and even mix suburban and hwy)....next 10k miles was 37mpg avg with 40% suburban and 60% hwy....the current 5k miles is back to 35mpg.....this is the 2.5L gas engine. the suburban driving is not heavy city stop and go....its suburban neighborhood and smallish city driving and is 30mpg....I do not use sport mode...top tier gas only as recommended. 87 octane....on the hwy the mpg avg is 40mpg or better....at the posted speed limit...I don't drive 80+ mph like most in the US

That skid plate on the Santa Cruz is not standard , doesn’t even come on the sel with the turbo
Nathan. Make sure you do all you maintenance either at a Hyundai dealer or make sure you keep excellent maintenance records. And you’d better not be late on oil changes and such because Hyundai Kia are notorious for denying warranty claims.
without impeccable documentation, try making a claim against honda, toyota, ford, GM or subaru...
try it.
@@rohitnijhawan5281 I did with chevrolet and I didn't have to show a thing
@@xQuantom Were you in the wararnty period? I assume you were. Did you have all servicing done at the dealership?
I know a guy personally whose son had 99000 miles on his elantra. The engine went and Hyundai took care of everything.
When they ask for documentation it's generally they have a good reason to suspect a negiligent car owner
@@rohitnijhawan5281 I did my own maintenance and yeah it was in the warranty period otherwise I wouldn’t be able to claim it on the warranty
My 2013 Santa Fe’s engine went at 89k miles. I’ve always performed my own oil changes and such, but never kept the receipts. Had absolutely no problem getting it replaced, along with a rental. Might be
I have both a 2023 tucson sel premium and a 2023 santa Cruz SEL and they are both great and I can say I like the Santa Cruz better and the seating position in the cruze is better to me and my wife preferred the Tucson. You guys are correct. .....These are completely 2 different vehicles, and the Santa Cruze like mine with AWD has the Santa fe rear suspension. The Tucson is very nice though we love the both.
Its suck that your new car is so easy to be stolen lol that something tfl doesn't go on about
@@cormaro13 ummm duhhhh that's only in older vehicle's with key ignition and no mobilizer, try reading and learning before embarrassing yourself.
@TommyG1814 wrong again dumb dumb , maybe you should try reading harder before answering lol, all vehicle affected are from 2011 to 2022 and they're just doing a software upgrade... then they're just giving out steering wheel locks for the ones who cant get the software upgrade, hmm is that why insurance companies are dropping you hyundai/ kia owners like flies still 🤣
Enjoy your crap brand, it's sad you didn't do any research, cause anything you find related to hyundai or kia is oil burning problems and warranty issues along with lawsuits, so again enjoy your Korean gabage 🤣 should've gotten a mazda , for the same price you paid for that crap brand you would've gotten heads up display feature something not on the hyundai
My one big disappointment is that it did not come with the leather steering wheel in the Santa Cruz SEL. if it were me I would order the leather wrapped steering wheel from the upper model of the Santa Cruz and Then have it placed on the SEL
I do wish there were more options for the Santa Cruz, still no topper for the back , would be nice to have for road trips , that’s my only grip with it. The tonneau is not fully weatherproof. I’ve pondered trading it for that reason but , it’s hard to give up that open bed for other stuff even if it not that often
There are several after market tonneau's for the SC. Hard and soft. Weathertech I know has a foldable hard one that is near water proof if you're interested.
Tucson has more options !!! I originally was going to buy a Santa Cruz !!!! I've been waiting for yrs for hyundai to do a truck. But availability was lousy, and back seat area small. And leasing options weren't as good. So I bought a Tucson.. just for reference I've owned all limited versions of veracruz, santa fe, turbo, and palisade . But Tucson is a great mid sized vehicle.
if they beefed up and used the palisade platform for a "pickup" I'd be interested. i wanted to love the santa cruz.
Then it would have been a bigger and more expensive vehicle. This is aimed at an under served market.
It will suffer the same thing as the Honda Ridgeline, the first modern unibody pickup. Truck "purists" will say it's a "minivan with a bed", or a "crossover with a bed", that it's "not a truck", and they'll avoid it because of that.
@@damilolaakanni I owned a 22 ridgeline and it is a crossover with a bed. It sit so low it would scrape pulling out of driveways sometimes. Averaged 20.5 mpg, the wireless charger didn't work, the auto high beams didn't work, carplay froze on the horrible screen. The problem with the Ridgeline is more than just being a minivan with a bed, although the styling isn't great. I just thought it was pathetic to have cylinder deactivation on a v6 in a truck that low to the ground and only do .5 mpg better then my f150 crew cab 2.7 4x4. No part of the Ridgeline stands out besides the trunk, which was the best part of the truck. Even the flat rear floor is ruined with the plastic v track going across the rear floor.
I purchased the 2023 Hyundai Tucson SEL with the 2.5 Litter and 8 speed Trns. and loving it, in the future I'm considering the El Hyndai-nimo Santa Cruz with the same trim and specs.
The only Reasons I would get rid of my Santa Cruz would be for a new one or if KIA Pickup comes out
I have a new 4runner, but would be driving a Tacoma if the roof wasn't so low. The 4runner is great, but I do miss a truck bed. I would stay with the Santa Cruz.
I’m gonna be in the market for a new car soon. A lightly used certified Santa Cruz SEL Activity and a lightly used Subaru Outback Limited are about the same price with the non turbo engines. Features are about the same too. I’m torn….
We’ve leased a ‘22 tucson since summer of 2021 and have had nothing but problems with it. Left us broken down stranded twice. Suffice to say, we’re done with Hyundais after our lease is up.
I am leasing a 22 Tucson hybrid as well and it currently has 47,000km. We did a 30,000km USA road trip and had zero issues.
@@Kered-9 our is not hybrid, im sure the majority of them will probably be fine. Im just reporting on our experience. Lots of recalls for Hyundais these days. Buyer beware.
@@jakes5530 I get it. You could get a lemon with any brand.
@@Kered-9 I was a GM boy until I owned a Corolla. I was underwhelmed. I still think Toyota is an amazing brand. I then went the Kia/Hyundai route and have been pleasantly surprised. Just wish their MPG was better. It's not horrible but lacklustre for the power their engines produce. Having said that, I had a kia soul plus with 2.0 and highway mpg was phenomenal
@@rohitnijhawan5281 I had Nissan vehicles for 10+ years and had no issues. Just needed a change, now I have a Hyundai Tucson and a Kia Soul. They've been great.
For us dog owners it the Tucson back seat lifted up like the Santa Cruz that Tucson would be great.
Tommy's Willys vs the new addition JL
Hey Nathan... I found the parts image that showed the roof rails. When you go to Hyundai's OEM parts finder, and select "Santa Cruz" as the model, then search for roof rails, they pop up. Oh, but here's the bad news... They're actually for the Tucson. Hyundai's parts site is broken/has an error. Don't you just love how much attention corporations pay to their websites? I think you made the right choice with the Santa Cruz. I'm sure the rails will be available eventually. They have them factory installed on some models, so they have to be available as replacement parts at some point.
Thanks for the effort!
From what I have heard, the threaded holes needed to mount the rails are not there on the models that don't have the rails. So it is not as simple as ordering the rails. It would involved taking down the headliner and drilling the holes in the right places.
The SC has a plastic bed vs steel in others. And Hyundai bragging it can tow 5k but does not include a brake controller is so dangerous. I would not want to be behind a SC towing a big boat.
The AWD Maverick I show on my channel has a steel bed and includes a built-in brake controller even at 4k tow.
What do you think is under the plastic?
@krtwood Not a steel bed. They call it composite whatever that means.
@@fordmaverickmaniac It's plastic panels on top of the steel, like a drop in bed liner. The back end of the truck is not made out of just plastic.
@@krtwood No look it up, composite bed replaces the steel underneath with carbon fiber. I will take steel any day.
@@fordmaverickmaniac You're mostly right. There is a lot of steel behind it on the sides but nothing underneath.
I enjoy the comparison, but something about Roman being "devil's advocate" is a bit tedious to watch. The guy is annoying as it is, and this makes him more so! I think this could of been done better in a different way. At least Nathan, unlike Roman, "really knows" the vehicle's technical' s really helps.
It’s a tough job. Somebody’s got to do it😊
We own 2 Hyundais.... 2017 Santa Fe and a 2018 Tucson.... I have to say.. Love the cars... But I really hate what Hyundai has done with their styling as of late. Just an opinion, but I won't buy another one unless they get it back. I mean.. the first thing you gotta like about a vehicle is how it looks.
I kinda like both the 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz and the 2023 Hyundai Tucson.
I’d start with the price comparison in your next videos of this kind. Makes it hard to compare if we don’t have that info
Completely agree! This was sort of hard to watch. Nathan at least really know's the details on the 2 vehicles. He's good!
Keep both. Both are great cars.
it could be $5,000 cheaper and I would still do the santa cruz
Can you get the wheel trimmed in leather aftermarket?
The weight of the two extra passengers mostly negated the lighter 500lb chassis of the Tucson in the acceleration Nathan did.
keep the santa cruz
Keep Trade it Or Keep It! Great start to the series.
Nathan I watch tfl because of you .your honesty your a man not milk toast from a guy that's been off the street 12 years because someone like you gave me a hand up not a hand out love the show been watching a long time when Andre was speaking Russian and will keep doing so
Roman with the shout-out to 93XRT!
Have a beautiful Wednesday Everyone
Nathan breezes through with all the facts while Roman just stands there
A Tuscon is just a smaller, less capable Santa Cruz without a bed. Literally a no brainer to pick the Santa Cruz (with the 2.5T, not the grandma NA engine)
Im interested in the a used cruze but just saw recall info on years passed so now im not sure. What do yal think of the recalls?
I like the slightly different front grill of the Tuscon better than the one on the Santa Cruz. I wonder if they are swappable even though the front ends are a little different.
They are not swappable , he was saying that in the video too, they completely different sizes and fits
You can't go wrong with either because it's just really a matter of which one you want more: To pretend you have an actual pickup truck or to pretend you have an off-road fakeable family wagon that looks like a true SUV but is really just a car. Both of which are easily stolen, so maybe the next generation of each will be better. Me being Nathan's size, I'd want either a Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma for an actual pickup truck, and either a Ford Bronco Sport or Subaru Forester instead. Good video, though. 🐰
why didn't you get the turbo?
Tempt Nathan with the new work truck Chevrolet Colorado.
Go to Brazil & get an older S-10 w V-8 or a Colorado w V8 js. Need 6ft bed w extender on Baby Trucks w extender. 8ft Bed for Full Size Trucks!
My suggestion for your next episode would a comparison to Andre’s Ram to something like a mid-size truck. Like the new Colorado, Tacoma, etc.
All electric or plug in hybrid would make the Santa Cruz outstanding. Or base it on the Palisade, bumping up space, HP, and tow rating. We own a Telluride, I would love to see a pickup version of it.
Did you say you put a 4'x4' pallet in the bed? Is there 4' between the wheel wells? How'd it fit? My biggest concern with a micro truck is the occasional trip to hardware store for plywood or sheet goods flat in the bed. But even if it doesn't lay flat, still beats trying to get it in a hatch!
No you can't. Have to go to a Ridgeline or full size truck for that. Both the Santa Cruz and Maverick are designed to be able to put the tailgate at an angle to support full sheets of plywood level with the top of the wheel wells.
I like the trade it or keep it format, keep that up.
When is coming new, more off-road and equipped with a rear axles lock Santa Cruz XRT HTRAC AWD model?.
Like this new episode trade it or keep it..Hope there’s more episodes down the road!
My hate for the Santa Cruz grows stronger each years as I wish those seats went down in the back so I could at least slide in some IKEA furniture , My Audi TTS can do it nicely and I miss that car.
The Tuscon I feel is a more comfortable family friendly ride for long family vacation stuff cozy for everyone with not bad storage This is why my wife prefers it.
The Santa Cruz I feel is peppier stronger and more utilitarian/practical vehicle which is why I like it.
I mean the Santa Cruz is not bad for vacations either especially if your a couple with no kids, most adults will take separate cars on road trips to places anyways so more than likely you would be using tha back seats for long trips
I guess it doesn't matter if you're only keeping a vehicle for a year or 3.
trade the car in for a new 2023 Jeep compass with the new 2.0l turbo, I bet if you wait a year '24+ it will be a hybrid ev too, nag the engineers for jeep and it will happen they finally put a 2.0 turbo in and their 4xe design uses the new system, tic toc it's coming.
That is actually a Fiat. Do not go with a jeep compass.
Great video idea! Buyers remorse for cars can be pretty intense so this gives a good look at navigating your options. Excited to see what's next!
The curb weight on this Colorado is very heavy
Good series.
Santa Cruz all day everyday
I would keep the Santa Cruz. It's the only pick up liked car I like.
Should've bought neither
Absolutely not keep that Santa Cruz. It's the best car truck thing whatever it is.
that NA motor is too weak for the Santa Cruz.
I'm okay with it at high elevation
Do you like the Santa Cruz over the Ridgeline?
So….this is a personal choice, why let others make that decision for you! 71 years old and I never bought a vehicle someone else wanted me to buy, after all I’m the one driving the thing everyday.
You are going to Love a utility trailer
Wow, trading from one poorly built vehicle to another poorly built vehicle? These two vehicles combined will not last as long as one Toyota.
Hyundai GDI engines are garbage.
The gas mileage on newer cars have not improved significantly in the last 2 decades. Let’s not be penny wise, dollar stupid!
Nathan will get new redesign Ridgeline when it appears.
can confirm. 93.1 XRT is a great radio station, but 95.5 is better.
KTM matching jackets....
Same money? 2016 QX70S, low mileage. You'd be so much happier dude.
Santa Cruz handles like my Miata. Love it.
Hyundai/KIA have had too many serious design flaws & major recalls for my taste, & I've read that getting them to honor their warranty on various developed problems is sometimes a major undertaking. So, I just don't trust the two sibling brands. Also, the styling tends to be odd, over-the-top and/or off-putting in some manner.
I feel you guys are like my mechanic, he drives everything and loves nothing.
No!!, never!!
Santa Cruz got better music too! Jimmy Hendrix
Love it or List It....well done team
Um only women by the Santa Cruz and old men buy Mavericks.
When the Santa Cruz transmission fails, it goes into what Hyundai calls 'limp' mode, you speed will drop to 20 mph... VERY DANGEROUS on highways, or any road. You take it in to Hyundai service they will tell you, they never have problems with this car, and no, there are no recalls. THERE ARE RECALLS ON THAT TRANSMISSION.... Contact your State's Attorney General and the BBB, Im in California and my Attorney General has been very helpful... unlike Hyundai. Is you own one of these, I recommend sell it before... either the transmission goes out, or the work gets out that these are lemons... and the value drops. Im betting Hyundai will terminate this transmission or the Santa Cruz all together... Besides, Toyota is coming out with their sub-compact Truck for 2024.
I didn't know that Roman was a salesman. lolol.
The XRT package is nothing more than a base-ish model with cosmetics........
I say just buy a Ford instead. Hyundai does not stand behind their products and only Hyundai and Kia have vehicles that 10 year olds can quickly steal with a screw driver and the end of a USB cable due to not having an immobilizer in the cars (my old 2000 no option Ford Escort had an engine immobilizer and yet a modern hyundai does not)
Do you have to give Hyundai and Kia credit for making much better looking vehicles and they have in the past, but it doesn’t change the fact that their quality is still mediocre at best. Go ahead and buy one because they look nice but be ready by 100,000 miles to be putting money into these things every other month and by the time you get to 150,000 miles you’re all but might as well junket.
