I really needed to see this. This just happened to me tonight. The exact same situation at a LOVES in Missouri. I couldn't successfully back in to a very crowded and tight spot. As I was starting to leave, a flat bed pulled out of the spot next to the spot I was going for which was the extra space I needed. I was still discouraged and disappointed in myself so I came to RUclips, saw this video and it lifted my spirits. Thank you for sharing
I commend you 1000% for admiting you struggled and showing what it's like out here. Most guys would never admit they had a hard time! Props to you man!!!!

This is where I'm at right now. I just finished training... took my solo upgrade test 2wks early, bc they reviewed footage of me on the road.. yes we have driver/ road view cameras in the truck. Anyways.. took my test early, passed. I was averaging 620m a day in training. First week of solo driving.. they sent me to every tight spot they could think of seemed like. Had my nerves tore all to shit. My training was a joke. He did 1 pre trip my whole training.. well, I wanted to quit. They put me team driving to get myself back in good spirits. But I'm still feeling very weary of my tight backing spots. If I have real estate I'm good. But the tight backs are probably going to make me quit. I just wished I had a better trainer or someone to actually train me... FML

I always say "Some days you have it, Some days you don't ". It just happens that way. When I return to our yard, and 2nd attempt doesn't look good. I go to our back 40 as I call it. Plenty of room. Just have to walk to my car 1/4 mile. No big deal. Lol!
Thank you for sharing this! I'm a new driver. My company only trained me 2 weeks and backing is a challenge for me! I appreciate your words of encouragement!
When I saw the title of the video, "... tight truck stop", my first thought was "I wonder if it's as tight as the Loves in Tacoma, Washington?". As soon as I saw the fuel pumps and the scale, I knew it was that same one! I spent a 34 hour restart there once in 2007. I decided to spot drivers parking there. A few old timers said "thank ya, but I don't need any help". A few minutes later they'd look toward me in my truck, and wave me over to spot them. It is the nastiest truck stop parking I have ever seen. I saw two trucks get damaged during my restart. One before I started spotting drivers, and one the next morning when I was getting ready to leave. That Loves should be condemned! The really annoying thing is, that the parking area could be widened by 35 feet, without any overhang, and a 3 ft clearance if they wanted to, but no, better to have driving records fouled up with "preventable" accidents and $10,000 in truck and trailer damage every week from the accidents there almost every single day. That truck stop is 6ft. narrower than almost every other 4 column truck parking area. Those missing 3 ft. cause a LOT of damage! As an LTL driver who backs my truck 50 times a day, you did everything you could have. I usually figure if the spot is shorter than my trailer It isn't worth it. Good job!
I've had that happened at a loves truck stop in Williams, CA and it was abt 21:30 hours (night time). It was packed with 4 spots left. I thought I found a good spot which was towards the middle but when I started backing, my right side of my trailer almost made contact with the truck on my right side to where a trucker came out and asked me if I needed help. I said, yes I do please (it was my 3 week on my own). The trucker who helped me back actually took the time to explain how my setup should of been, how to maneuver my truck around tight areas and how much of turn I need to do when backing in tight spots. He liked that I got out and looked a lot. Then I was finally in my spot without hitting anything not anyone. I thanked him for helping me and giving me pointers on backing in tight spots. It sucked lol but now I have an idea wat to do. We need more people like him who can help a brother in need.
That's crazy-tight. I've been driving 4 years, had my tandems slid almost all the way up and misjudged my trailer swing. Backed into a co-driver of mine here at the company I work for, practically in my own back yard! (Home town) felt so stupid. I typically do the G.O.A.L method, but for some reason I figured I was good enough on the driver side to clear the blind side. Now I have ZERO issues with getting out and looking EVEN IF I know I'm clear, just to get a clean visual of the angles and placement.
When i was OTR i drove at night. Traffic was low to null and every time I came into the truck stop i had a wide variety of parking spaces to pick from...
I shut down by 1700. Always somewhere to park. Back on the road around 0300. Then you can miss the traffic in the cities and still only have to drive in the dark for 4 hours or so.. Nothing worse than a full truck stop at night with nowhere to park and no time left.

One of my biggest concerns coming into trucking, I appreciate u showing this video once I complete my classes ill be out there I hope I can keep my cool the way u did
You might've pulled it around and got it parked in A spot, but I guarantee it wasn't THIS spot. The nose of your trailer was just about on the bumper of the trucks across from that spot and you hadn't even begun to get back under it. It's one thing to have a video showing that you don't always get in the hole the first try, but you don't need to go lying and saying you magically achieved the obviously impossible.
tighter than a rusted lug nut. i give credit to you otr guys having to deal with this end of the trucking world. An end a local daycab driver like myself has long forgotten about. cool areial view. when i arrive at an ugly backup situation, I visualize myself already in the spot and what my truck would look like when im pulling out of it, cuz thats exactly how ill need to look backing into it
WOW! From this angle .... OMG! Even with the perfect setup, there just isn't enough space to swing that tractor... Glad no contact was made. Rough lot!
Man that was an awesome view! A perfect way 2 demonstrate the difficulties of backing up a big rig on a tight spot, best of all you didn't got involved on a fender bender accident, well done driver!
All you 'super truckers' who are saying that they could have gotten that truck into that space are lying ! There simply wasn't enough space to get straight or manoeuvre . Any half decent driver knows when a space/situation is too tight ! Should never have tried it ! If they laid out the parking spots in a 'herringbone' pattern,it would make parking a LOT easier here. And yes, I AM a 'class 1' driver (U.K.), with over 35 years experience and I've had an artic (you call 'em 'big rigs' I believe) in places you could only dream of !....... Still, impossible IS impossible.
Nahh, that's totally doable, he never used the full width of the drive to get the trailer lined up. All you really need is the length of the trailer. At 2:24 he was pretty much there except that he was too close to the Volvo to finish.
I was scared how close you were to purple tractor yea pilot/ flying J are good for full truck stop parking, mainly cause of fuel points for free showers 🚿🚛
I'm not a commenter usually but being a new cdl driver. And driving a 28ft straight for 14 straight years I've learned a few things about myself. In the straight I'll put that truck anywhere u want 1st attempt. In the big truck I learned I'm not to proud to ask these older guys for help, and you know what I haven't had one tell me down yet. Seems all the old guy truckers I've met are willing to train or help us new guys out. Springs me pride in my profession that the guys who have a lifetime of this are willing to share
What type of drone do you use? I do alot of backing into tight spots with family dollar stores and i would like to do presentations for other drivers so they dont keep tearing down the buildings.
Adam Katt with a follow me drone it follows the device so you dont have to physically control it. alot of xtreme sports people use them ie mx, bmx, snowboarders, and etc
Adam Katt I don't know why he didn't just stream the camera feed to a device and watch everything from that. air view should be perfect for setting up and backing, you can see EVERYTHING
Couldn't get my trailer in the hole tonight. Was let down that I couldn't think myself through it. Being Christmas I think every trailer was in the facility and it was no room on the front end for swing. At least, I couldn't get it yet. Rookie that I am. Thanks for this. Needed it.
yeah what about filing all the paper work and headache it causes when you hit that truck right next to your spot? Is it worth risking your CDL for that?
Thanks for this video. It’s awsome! My husband and I are team drivers been pulling doubles for three years! Got spoiled for sure never had to back or worry about parking we parked where we could with those doubles made our own spots at times. But we went owner op pulling for ourself but holy cow we forgot how to back. It terrifies me. My husband is pretty calm about it. But as for me I want to crap myself I worry I am gonna hit something or someone. So we decided to work on our backing again. And I really appreciate your video because your right sometimes we struggle but sometimes people help us out and we both appreciate everything people help us with.
thats like trying to park a jumbo jet in downtown Manhattan.Thats good you finally said screw it.Odds were stacked a mile high and a hundred feet deep on that one.
Why do truck drivers risk making a bad situation worse? My rule is, if you have to get out of your truck more than twice.....then you probably shouldn't be parking there.
MrNew122 some of us enjoy a good challenge. The fact you give up after 2 GOAL's indicates your willingness to give up more easily than others. No offense intended by this either.
An experienced driver wouldn't have even looked at that space as its way too tight. Been driving them for 24 years and haven't put a mark on a tractor or trailer.
I think that is how you gain experience. He had to try, fail, try again, fail again and then get help to know that not everything is peaches and cream. I give him credit. He had the choice to look for another spot and might have found one, but what happens when he gets to a shit loading dock and has no choice but to get in? Then he would be fucked. This way he learned something and can use it in the future.
He said he got it in and he also said he didn't hit anything. So therefore if he got it in that means there was enough room it was just tight. i guess in your 24 years all your backings were wide open. if that amount of room was your dock space you going to tell the shipper that he has to load you in the parking lot? You going to refuse to backing? AT least he didn't give up like you would of with 24 years of experience.
Yeah whatever mate , he didnt get into that space and it was overly tight. When you come back to your truck and find 5K of damage due to some clown trying a reverse like this without a banksman watching his blind side you will maybe understand why i dont like this kind of bravado
good lad man! i back into mcdonalds parking lots every day and they are super tight, when when i get back to the dc, i struggle ally docking it to drop the trailer because i feel real under pressure from other drivers and management ect this video just shows we all are human, cheers dude
There’s been several times where I’ve had to ask someone to be my eyes when backing in situations just like there’s been several times where I’ve had to get out of my truck and be someone else’s eyes. It’s just part of the job. I also try to find locations that aren’t as tight providing I have enough time I’ll keep driving and looking. It ridiculous how small some of these places are.
Brings me back to when I was truck training at the port of tacoma and had never backed up a trailer before, lol. Granted, the chassis I back up are usually no more than 45' with the axels all the way on the end and the hustler/terminal tractors have a super short wheelbase, so it's a lot easier to back up. Can't wait until I get enough experience under my belt for TOTE training and hopefully get certified
I'm feeling it bro, in the same boat a new pass, does not matter how long or how many attempt's made as long as you don't hit anybody you good, practice makes perfect
Just took me 20 mins to back into this spot I’m at. Decided to cheer myself up by hearing people talking about it. Turns out, I’m at the same place you were in the video lol. I fear truck stops so much. Especially after 600pm
Thanks great video. Awesome way to get a perspective. Do you have a co-driver? Just trying to figure out how the drone was flown while you were parking?
Dude, at least you got out and looked. A lot of noob drivers don't bother and wreck something in the process. At school they want you to do perfect the first time without getting out. But real world, you can get out and check as much as you like. Kudos
this is one of those truck stops that brings truckers together. Haha. I had to stay at this loves only once, thank God. yeah definitely crazy tight. had like a 2am delivery down the street at a beer distributer in Puyallup.
Hey man!! I give you credit, because most of the truck backing videos I see, they don't bother to get out and look. You got out a bunch of times to make sure you didn't hit anything. . . and you didn't! Props to ya!
Bro that first approach was decent. The fact you eventually got in that spot at all is amazing. I don't why they hate us truckers on the coasts so much. They sure want their goods though
Sweet ass footage from up high! Seemed that dude bumped the purple tractor and bounced afterwards. I'd never condone parking in a lot that expansive. Nice vid...
One reason why I love these 45' flatbeds driving for Combined Transport. A little easier maneuvering in the tight parking spots, especially when I happen to be out east. Parking at the loves here in Fort Worth off I35W is a pain. Only spot I could nab was all the way in the corner, so I had to blind side in. Thankfully I have plenty of experience doing blind backing. Been out here 5 years so far, probably gonna retire from trucking as soon as I buy me a house. Doesn't pay enough compared to other blue collar career fields. My uncles a mechanic and he makes good money, better than me. Weekends off, 9 to 5, full benefits, 1 week paid vacation a year. Of course he's also been a mechanic for 35 years, but he said even apprentices start off making good wages.
Reminds me of backing a trailer into a yard organized by guys with them yard trucks. It’s tight like this, but you only have to worry about hitting a trailer and not someone’s truck
Great job brother! Your night could have been worse! It takes a pro to know when to move on! Remember that rookies! There is never a have too in trucking! Just wait to it's safe or move on! But a trick to do in tight spots is slide your tandems all the way back.
? 4 u Bo Shifter or anyone want to anwer. If u slided your tandems all the way back so you don't have a tail swing would you be able to park there? The reason I ask since you don't have a big tail swing it is easier to push in back of the trailer into the spot without having it parallel with other trucks. I'm also considering that you have a small spot in front of you but still. Please answer whoever can.
I was a pro expert backing up in orientation, but once I got to the truck stop. It was all over for me. The truck stop made me look like it's my first day in school.
hello Bo shifter, im a beginner driver. driving in the ports of la and long beach and other yards. i ran into lots of yards that are super tight and packed with containers from every angle. if its trainers on your drivers and passengers side, like on this video, but they are tighter where u cant do no pull up or a wider setup, where will i need the back in of my trainer to be during setup?

An end a local daycab driver like myself has long forgotten about. cool areial view. when i arrive at an ugly backup situation, I visualize myself already in the spot and what my truck would look like when im pulling out of it, cuz thats exactly how ill need to look backing into it
Pulling out is not exact opposite of backing in because your trailer is not just following you
It's a good starting point. You can adjust it as you go based on that pre-image.
WOW!
From this angle .... OMG!
Even with the perfect setup, there just isn't enough space to swing that tractor...
Glad no contact was made.
Rough lot!
what type of drone do you have. It's perfect for what I'm trying to do. It's a 'follow me drone' ya?
Getting out check the back was funny at that speed 😂
Reading the comments on these truck videos you realise how massively insecure truck drivers are.
I'm sure you don't even know how to turn the ignition let alone to drive one of these things
I've been a driver for five years and I agree. It's one big insecurity parade
Team investors катуу катуу базар жоок
Are you saying that in a negative way? Or positive?
It's tough, but you did a great job. Got out and looked several times. Asked for help. Did everything right.
what kinda drone do you have??
Theres no way to back in that spot... no way
He'a approching it totally at the wrong angle.
it does not have a right angle too approach....it won't fit!
Oh it 'll fit alright, he needs be further over the road.
He said the in the video....
I've been to that Loves. It will fit. That spot is easier to get into with your tandems back further and if you set up a 45 degree back-in.
@LARAMS rock I couldn't fit in that spot if these were all matchbox trucks, let alone a real rig next to actual vehicles.
Man that was an awesome view! A perfect way 2 demonstrate the difficulties of backing up a big rig on a tight spot, best of all you didn't got involved on a fender bender accident, well done driver!
What drone do you use? And how do you get it to follow you like that?
I do not no how you got that over view ,, but hey you have a great attitude about this
All you 'super truckers' who are saying that they could have gotten that truck into that space are lying !
Problem is that you repeatedly set up wrong. Difficult to overcome a bad set up! But kudos for having the guts to show it!
good upload man. And well said. it's very easy to just wanna quit when you feel that the truck just can't go anywhere. respect
Good job, great drone footage. CDL schools should have that video for teaching.
yea dey should
+Bo Shifter
Sell it to DOT
How the hell do you film with a drone and back in at the same time?
Adam Katt with a follow me drone it follows the device so you dont have to physically control it. alot of xtreme sports people use them ie mx, bmx, snowboarders, and etc
Well then, that's pretty sweet.
Adam Katt I don't know why he didn't just stream the camera feed to a device and watch everything from that. air view should be perfect for setting up and backing, you can see EVERYTHING
Thinking exactly that. Having aeriel drone footage has to be better than following a mate's instructions ..
Phil Wetherick has to be better than getting out and looking too lol. Great minds think alike
so do you have a drone that is on follow or is the CIA always following you too
TheVegasCabbie 😂 lol
Thanks for posting this video. I'm biting nails.. those tight spots are scary GOAL! GOAL! Thanks again
Couldn't get my trailer in the hole tonight. Was let down that I couldn't think myself through it. Being Christmas I think every trailer was in the facility and it was no room on the front end for swing. At least, I couldn't get it yet. Rookie that I am.
Thanks for this. Needed it.
no way i will ever try that i back in very often and i aint going to risk it.
thats my favorite part of trucking bro, the challenge
yeah what about filing all the paper work and headache it causes when you hit that truck right next to your spot? Is it worth risking your CDL for that?
If you're good than you won't have to fill out paper work. Simple.
Peter North accident happen, especially when putting yourself in an accident prone position...
+Ryan dats y u get out and look
the drone didn't help you?
MrNew122 what kinda arbitrary rule is that? the spot is tight as hell. GOAL.
Michael Tierney Whatever....Super trucker!!!
MrNew122 some of us enjoy a good challenge. The fact you give up after 2 GOAL's indicates your willingness to give up more easily than others. No offense intended by this either.
Scott Zane I've seen your type that loves a challenge, they usually end up in a rollover accident!
MrNew122 is that what your gonna tell the receiver or shipper.
The real question is, who tf is recording?
I salute you for this. sometimes its really hard to back. doesn't mean you don't know how you do it
Little man running from cab to trailer and back reminds me of old school Gauntlet....don't forget your ham my brother, hahaha
1k dislikes wow these the best views on the tube.
The fact that the dude tried that reverse shows how inexperienced he is.
???
When you come back to your truck and find 5K of damage due to some clown trying a reverse like this without a banksman watching his blind side you will maybe understand why i dont like this kind of bravado
very interesting use with a quad.. do you have fpv feed into your cab?
That was real informative. I had no idea, backing up was so hard.
good lad man! i back into mcdonalds parking lots every day and they are super tight, when when i get back to the dc, i struggle ally docking it to drop the trailer because i feel real under pressure from other drivers and management ect this video just shows we all are human, cheers dude
Haha. I had to stay at this loves only once, thank God. yeah definitely crazy tight. had like a 2am delivery down the street at a beer distributer in Puyallup.
what drone is this? wish drones were as big as they are now when I was otr, I would have done the same thing
I LOVE UR VIDEOS! U funny as hell and u know what ur doing! Thanks for the knowledge.
Bro at least you are being honest with yourself and proud to let us see what and how you are doing.
couple things you should have done different, and how did you get that arial view like that?
hey Bo, what drone was used? it almost looks like you have "follow me" capabilities.
What did you use to get above view video. Drone?
I don’t understand the many dislikes. What we watched was his failure like the title said. Great video showing how it really is out here.
We need more content like this Mr. Bo
That's is a so bloody difficult manouver, I really admire the guys who drive those machines.
I love this drone footage! So cool thanks for the upload!
no problem man
Integrity; good job man ..Truckers should be recognized for the amount of work it takes to be safe all the time and keep the delivery of goods up.
so my question is, how did you film yourself parking? and from ABOVE ??
What kind of drone was you using?
What Drone you use to film you.... That's nice
i like your attitude!! dont give up..stay cool..dont be ashamed to ask for help!! good for u!
Holy shit dude, that's tight, good on you for not rushing and hitting someone. This isn't a fail in my book
I'm still impressed. that backing a trailer stuff is hard to do.
Cynthia Tucker try to have close as u can to your the trailers on your driver side
I like how you had the drone up. what type of drone is that and who was flying it?
Did you say North Van as in Canada? Hard to imagine that the only one around within 60 miles.
