    • @leebarnes655
      @leebarnes655 8 лет назад +32

      +Jeff P I'm thinking it's more the fact that the cop knows it's a borderline call on the yellow light. You can't just slam on the brakes deadheaded like this because there is not much traction in the rear without a loaded trailer on there. It was yellow, not red when entering. Even if it was red leaving the intersection and that alone is a pass in the states at least. But yeah after he reviewed his tone and actions with the above in mind on video no less, he did the flip flop like a smart man should do. Had the driver been a total jerkwadd with insults and smarting off, the cop might have been ticked off enough to go ahead and push it as far as he could anyway. The advice to stay calm and respectful is pure golden if you ask me.
      I remember reading about an almost exact similar case without video, and in court the truck driver called himself as an expert witness on the unpredictable dangers of sudden braking without a loaded trailer in tow. The judge wanted to know how he qualified himself as an 'expert' in the subject and he pointed to his CDL - THE mark of a state certified professional driver. No one else in the court had one, the case was dismissed.

    • @macknumber9
      @macknumber9 4 года назад +1

      @@fmulder67 I wouldn't call it obvious...it turned red as he was going through. Would not have held up in court and the cop OBVIOUSLY knew it.
      You OBVIOUSLY have never driven a rig...now I know he was bobtailing but still the tractor is heavy and doesn't turn and stop like you can in your car. Most cops (especially this one since he was supposedly involved in enforcement of trucking laws) know about trucks and give them a little leeway when it comes to red lights....
      Also he was turning slowly through...it would be entirely different if he was going straight through the intersection at high speeds....when you make a turn especially in a truck you need to slow down so he was caught in the point of no return....if he decided to stop he would have had to jam on his brakes and possibly end up in the middle of the intersection....
      Again this is not your 2500lb car that can stop on a dime....this is a 20,000lb truck...

      What are you talking about? It had nothing to do with the recording, the cop even said "It's upto you, you're entitled to do with it as you want". It had nothing to do with that, it was the fact that the guy legitimately picked up on the fact that the cop had a rough day. If you let people know that, you picked up on it, and it's not fair to be attacking you for it, they'll usually apologise. They go through more stress than your shitty job, so of course they'll turn out like this on a bad day. Just let them know what's up, and they'll apologise. A person going through stress would rather someone acknowledge them for it, instead of attacking them for it.

    I get the message of this video, but I can't help find it frustrating that civilians are expected to be so obediently compassionate and understanding when the officer felt no such obligation and seemingly came to his senses only because of the existence of a dash cam.

    • @rcslyman8929
      @rcslyman8929 5 лет назад

      It's not that civilians are expected to be... it's just more helpful to be. Best case scenario, the officer is having a great day, too, and you get through the traffic stop with a pleasant exchange. Slightly less than worst case scenario, the officer's having a bad day and is tense, but dealing with a pleasant individual eases that tension. Worst case scenario, the officer's a dickhead tin badge, and it really doesn't matter what you do because the exchange is going to be brutal, but you doing nothing to instigate the officer puts you in the clear if the situation itself needs to go to court.
