Hey Mike Don here. Love your channel. We were on the opposite side of the lake almost straight across at KP. Forcast was for North and which is pretty onshore at kp. We were fortunate with upwards of 30 plus knots around 3:30. My point is the actual direction was WNW which would explain your more than 20° offshore on the American side. Generally this direction isnt great, but when its windy the Bowl and further north was amazing! The actual kettles at the point causes the wrap of the swell. Port tack ramps were superb! Im unsure if this wrap is refraction, based on whats under the water? Whats really cool is the swell would rise up before we felt the wind increase. I knew it was the push of the wind from your side around 3:00pm.
Stay safe and you made the right decision unless you wanted to cross the lake and join us😮.

Hey Don! Thanks man. Glad bunch of you guys scored!! That wind direction at KP when that strong is my favorite. Kite and surfboard I can just picture it…. I bet waves were super clean considering how windy it was. Crazy how windy it was compared to where I was at. I got out a ways and maybe gusting 15 knots. Where I was at big spread out swell, very gradual not steep or powerful at all. Rollers. Reminded me of ocean ground swell. Just would be been to much pumping to make that distance So different but quite close as the crow flys. KP that point really cleans up the wind chop. Also it get shallow very very gradually allowing swell to clean up. Larger faster moving swell catch’s up to smaller and forms nice waves. That’s my thoughts. I’m due for a KP ride. See you out there!!

Thx for sharing your experience. How about a bigger foil? The APF 1675 pumps so easy it’s easy to stay on foil. And fast moving ground swell gives you a boost of speed then you peel off and have plenty of low end and glide to catch the one behind for a short bit before you can’t keep up, then you peel off and repeat again. I’ve been working on this skill.

That could have worked, just would have been a ton of pumping. I had to make a quick decision before my wife got to far away. She’s the best. I burned a lot of spousal points on this one!! Lol

In Hawaii at my windward shore spot the wind is almost straight onshore. I’ll wing out then downwind back flagged out or deflate and downwind back. The swell is pretty messy. Got the wind swell then usually 2 ground swells. Then the back wash swell. Do you get back wash swell from the shore? I’m downwinding into a crescent shaped bay with 3 small islands in the bay. I can see the back wash swell from the different parts of the shore and the backwash swell from each island. Make for challenging downwind conditions. But, if it’s windy there is no shortage of energy out there! 😂👍

Hey man! I’d say ur the expert and inflate deflate DW! Thanks for ur tips. Wow the ocean is so much different. No back swell here. Mostly sand beaches with 1 or 2 sand bars. Water gets shallow gradually so zaps all that energy. I find it interesting each run around my local spot had different conditions. Variety keeps it fun. Which island r u on? I’ll be coming in the next few years!

@@michaelpisarczyk6465 I’m on Oahu. By Kailua Beach. Reach out to me if your out here. And thank you. Hahaha. I’m no expert. But, having fun. I just wish I could get my shoulder back to 100%. Whenever I have a hard paddling session it relapses a bit. Feels like bicep tendonapathy or impingement. So, winging and deflate downwinders are helping me reduce the load on the shoulder while I struggle to get it strong enough with home rehab and working out.

Have u tried a shorter paddle. My shoulder was not liking the paddle ups either. Went to nose height and helped out huge!

@@michaelpisarczyk6465 Hi. I was at eyebrow height then I went to head height and felt like that was better for paddle ups because the extra length gave more reach, more paddle in water power stroke distance. But, I didn’t notice much difference with the shoulder. It just seems if I paddle 70-80% effort it’s ok, but more than that and I get pain later. I’m on a 115 square inch blade as well. But, I was on smaller blades before and the big blade helps a lot with paddle ups. The pro riders all say to ditch the big blade and learn to paddle with a fast cadence with a 85 sq in blade. I’m open to try different things. Doing rehab and strengthening exercises and trying to get as much paddling practice as the shoulder allows pain free. Need to borrow a small paddle to try. 🤞😆🤞
