      Hi, I too watch a lot of youtube videos that miss out the most important parts of the explanation. My quest is to remedy that. Thanks for watching.

    THAT’s exactly what I want! …but with the hinges folding both ways, in order for the bed to become a sofa looking inside of the van, as well as outside of the van to enjoy the view when the back doors are open…

    super! This thing has a real everyday usage as bed for guests.
    We don`t have much space. Building something just to use it a couple of times during vacation and tell your wife it`s so super and you`ll use it so often and in the end... we know such stories... 😆.
    But I really like such version, super! I want to make kind of a camping box with such a bed to be used as a "real" bed as well.

    I recent saw a video about Kreg pocket hole Joinery do's & donts I one of the important things was if you see part of the small Pilot hole once you have drilled the pockets It basically means you haven't adjusted the depth collar on the drill bit properly. Something I hadn't necessarily realised even though I am fairly familiar with pocket holes! ... Very clear & informative video though!.... Thanks!.... Marcus...

    Nice video!
    2 Suggestions, if you don't mind!
    1st I think it should be better for the overall comfort if you put your slats left to right instead of front to back of the vehicle.
    2nd I think you should simply put Ikea slat bed base instead of making it!
    I hope you to make and sold as many as you want!
    Have a nice day!

    • @dave-watson
      @dave-watson  Год назад

      Hi Thanks for watching. Yes the slats could go left to right or either way, once the foam cushions are on either would do. Also I looked into the ikea bed slats but the wood was a bit thin to screw to the main frame.

    Friend of mine has asked me to help convert his transit custom into a family camper/day van. This rock n' roll bed will be ideal for what he has in mind. I'll have to make it as a 'full width' and the base frame will need to be taller to accommodate the 'downstairs' beds for the little 'uns, but there's no reason it can't be adpted to suit...maybe a couple of additional braces/crossmembers to account for the extra height. Thanks for sharing your project and explaining the process in such an east-to-understand format.

    Beautiful work. I was wondering if when you make the bed into a couch, it looks like the seat extends to the side unsupported. Is the frame strong enough if someone sits on that unsupported end of the couch seat.

      Hi, Yes I used the 750mm ones after making a couple with the 800s. But I had to alter the length of the seat section so the bed would still fold out properly.

      Hi, There are a couple of pegs (bolts) through the sliding leg and into the frame leg and that keeps it in place when driving.

    Dave, when you pull it out at 18,20. would it not be worth putting a rail on the bottom, for extra strength for the uprights. I may use your vid for my next vans bed frame. cheers Paul.

      @dave-watson  2 дня назад

      Hi Paul, I've found the uprights to be okay but I have made a MKII and I use 12mm ply instead of all of the slatts for the seat etc. it makes the whole thing much stronger.....and less work.

    I managed to find a set of cabinet drawer sliders 34" (863.6 mm). I know that's longer than 800mm, but I'm not the bank and have unlimited finances. I'm still going to build this rock & roll bed. Now the next hurdle is getting 2" x 3" wood pieces to build the other parts of the foundation.

    • @dave-watson
      @dave-watson  19 дней назад

      Hi if you can't get 3 x 2 any sturdy wood would work you would just have to adjust the dimensions a little. Good luck with the project.

    How do you propose the mattress to operate? Will the three sections somehow be attached to each other? If not, what will hold the section at the door end in place to stop it falling down the back? Extremely nice job by the way.

      @dave-watson  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi, Yes the foam is cut into 3 sections and in the MKII R&R bed I put a thin shelf on the bottom of the back section for the foam to sit on while the bed is in the seating position.......seems to work well. Thanks.

    Great job, I’m seriously thinking of getting a vivaro, as my next van, I currently have a VW T4, that was already converted when we got it 7 years ago, but now I need a daily van / car / camper, one ring to rule them all kind of thing, really want to convert my own as I know what works and what doesn’t work for us now, can you sleep width ways in the back of the van ? I am 5ft 8” small and missus is 5ft, so I think as width ways bed would be better for us, then we can leave it down if we have the awning with us, or put the bed up and have the sofa if we are just vanning it

    • @dave-watson
      @dave-watson  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks a lot....the vivaro is just over 5" wide and once you get insulation and panels on it would be a bit tight I think. But the R&R bed is a good solution 6" long and folds away real easy.

    Really like the design concept but I've been struggling to transfer this to my medium sized van - Expert/Dispatch/Proace size which really only have a workable floor space of around 213cm x 126cm roughly. For this length the bed frame would always be restricting the side door entrance I'd have to step over and with utility units on opposite side, I'd have to step outside van each time to fully extend bed. Not ideal in bad weather. I can only think of some kind of an extension ?
