I like the modest, rookie attempts to get the DIY sliding bed project done. The second guessing yourself, getting it wrong until you got it right, showing mistakes and fails and all until you got it the way you wanted makes this video tops and worth thumbs up 👍. Best line: it looks good, it's clean- just doesn't work! Hilarious. The whole purpose of a sliding bed, is it's gotta slide out. Great job.
You did a GREAT job. Thank you for sharing your build with us. I need to make one of these and have zero skills (and I'm old-lol) and this is so intimidating, but watching your step by step makes me feel like I might can do this. Again, your efforts are appreciated. Thanks
I watch this video while cleaning and adjusting m6 coffee grinder and then making a cup of coffee. So I didn’t pay complete attention to the video. Of course, neither did I pay complete attention to making my cup of coffee so I now have a less than ideal cup. Kind of like the result you got on the bed. But my coffee is more than acceptable and I think your bed is the same. Perhaps the thing that I like best about your video is it I think that it’s realistic so far as having to deal with all these little problems that arise during a build. If problems don’t arise then either the person is a complete and total professional that has done this many times before and has tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tools, or as I think, often happens, the owners of the channel didn’t do all the work. Thanks for listing the link to the build diagram. I’m not really hot on by pocket hole jig. Sure, it makes the end result look better, but I’m not going for looks. I’m going for a function. Also, I want to see if I can modify that to maximize storage space under the bed. My current plan is that my refrigerator is going to be in someplace under there. So I got a lot out of this video and subscribed. You now have a subscriber in Japan.
This is exactly how I'd like to make my bed also.....I'm really glad it wasn't exactly how you wanted it......so I can see how I might be able to "fiddle" with it a bit, if necessary ....I'm way worse than you, so that gives me hope. Thanks for all the brain storming out loud. Cheers
Thanks Brian. I intentionally leave a lot of the trial and error / thought process in so people will understand what I was thinking or why I chose to do something a certain way. Hopefully it indeed helps along the way with your build!
That’s looking pretty sweet! I love your approach to functionally vs. perfection, I myself need more of that mindset. Congrats, the job you are doing look pretty professional 👍🏻
Even if I wanted to go the perfection route I don’t know remotely enough about carpentry and woodworking to suffice 😂 I like the looks moderately presentable mixed with function for sure
If you end up doing any urban camping in this (you will), you're probably going to want the bed on the passenger side. Reason is, most streets are convex for rain drainage and, on the steeper embanked streets, having the bed on the driver's side feels like you're getting rolled out into the aisle (getting rolled into the wall feels much better). Of course this only matters when the bed is in " single" mode.
dude, you are hilarious and remind me of myself. funny to watch and im learning a lot. i like the idea behind a sliding slotted bed, but are you going to do with the mattress when the bed is folded in. carry on,
That could definitely work. And maybe worth looking into. Even like a rubber gym mat that I could cut into two pieces and stack on top each other until using. Will see how it goes. I have two of the 72” foldable closed cell foam backpacking style sleeping pads and they are usually with me on trips I’d be using this to sleep in so they maybe a good no additional cost option
I think sanding stuff down may have helped too. They actually suggest to do it in the instructions but I feel like this worked out pretty well too haha
Not really existent haha. I can technically sit up right on the wood but my head brushes the ceiling, if I wanted to be able to have clearance I would have had to have made the bed like just go over the wheel well. I felt the height I made it reached a happy medium of enough space to mostly sit up but also still gives decent storage space under the bed
Can easily reach right under the bed from the back or anywhere along the sides as well. If the bed is folded out it maybe a little trickier. I considered the option to put like a pull out drawer underneath with access from the back but don’t think I’ll be going that route. Just don’t think it would be necessary in my case
Hey looks pretty good and it slides out after a little quick mod. Just a idea but maybe you can add a few draws to the part that slides out. Only can be opened when it is pushed in but hey gotta make use of the space that is there. Have you been able to get out on any trails with whats happening? take care man
Im probably going to put some type of para-cord on the pull put part actually. Have not been out hiking at all unfortunately. Hopefully that will change soon....
In the instructions they sand everything down which may help too but I feel like with the crazy weather changes where I live chopping off the length will work out better haha
Hey Mang, if you want help building out your van at all I am a carpenter and general tradesman and I also have tools and a small shop space along with a sawmill and lots of low cost materials. I just bought an E250 that I will be building out also! (Plus i'm just down the highway by the Blue Hills ;D
haha thanks man, im pretty much done with what I wanted for now. Mainly just looking for some sort of shelf to put up but for that im 99% just going to find a bookcase and chop out a spot for the wheel well
Instead of screws suggest using Nail gun! Glue and Brads should have helped you save time and energy! You are awesome anyways! Keep up the good work waiting for ur next video!
Nah didnt want to go that route. Have seen ones that do though which is pretty cool. Planning to store things underneath in easily removable plastic bins
Currently still in this state. Its pretty much hiking season so no real plans to do any additional work to it until probably fall. Still need to insulate the back doors. Maybe put some wood over them too. Make some window covers. and been looking around for a bookcase or something I could use as a shelf against the other wall. In no rush though. Even in its current state its treating me well

1st video of yours ive ever seen and i instantly hit that sub button when you pulled out the shelf bracket for a speed quare 😂❤😂❤😂❤😂❤

Be
safe out there! Good to see you back!
“Like, Comment, Subscribe-I don’t care” 😂😂
Because of that grand slogan I am doing all of the above 🤣🙌
That’s looking pretty sweet! I love your approach to functionally vs. perfection, I myself need more of that mindset. Congrats, the job you are doing look pretty professional 👍🏻

You did an awesome job man this looks great!
Thanks Bob!
Cool job! And you did it all with your Altra lone peaks on. Lol
My daily shoes haha
Just found your series and the NV200 is the van i am looking for
Great job on the build of bed, I would probably do the same set up. Thanks for sharing.
Great vid mate, very helpful. 👍🏻👌🏻
Looks good. Want to do the same in my NV200.
Thanks Roberto! Took a decent amount of time to do in my case but think it came out really well
Yay you're back!!!!
This is the best video I’ve seen how not to do it 😩
YOU ARE AMAZING! Thank you so much - this video + article are so so helpful. Actually excited to make the bed now.

Very good advise, well thought. Bravo
Looks extremely professional and agree you need it to be functional but it looks perfect to me!! Ana to the rescue!! 👍🏻😀
haha thanks Kathy!

Maybe instead of having a plywood top using some of those foam workout floor tiles that fit together. Just a thought.
That could definitely work. And maybe worth looking into. Even like a rubber gym mat that I could cut into two pieces and stack on top each other until using. Will see how it goes. nice video, great job Chris - greetings from Slovakia :)
Thank you Tomas!
Looks good man.cant wait to see it all finished
You and me both!
Thanks man. This is helpful!
Great bro. I hope you have luck with a living space and get to use this for some mobile home base hiking missions
Hopefully will be taking it out sooner than later!
Wonder if washers would help with the sliding. Good to see ya doing a Vid. Keep the Mind Working. Stay Safe Chris
I think sanding stuff down may have helped too. They actually suggest to do it in the instructions but I feel like this worked out pretty well too haha
Good job 👏 it will work 👍
Good explanation, it worked.
i'm following whats your sitting headroom to ceiling at this point.... great video thanks

Great video Chris!
Thanks!
I’m impressed! Nice job!
Nice one 👍
Thanks you for sharing i gone build the same bed
Great job 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I thought you were screwing the slats in crooked, but it was the wide angle. Heh, heh.
Good job and thanks for the detail. Subbed👍
thank you for the excellent video
Should of put washers under the slats to give them a little space but other than that verh good video
I have a KIA Sedona minivan and would like to give this a shot. Any guestimate on the weight of the bed?
Great job
What’s the black strip on the rear bumper called, I wouldn’t mind getting one for mine, helps with scratches.
What chop saw is it your using Chris ?
Nicely done. Love the saw that your using. What is it?
After all is done, how many inches left from floor to ceiling? Thanks for sharing.
What is the final width of the bed when extended? Did the 14" height of bed work out?
Thank you for sharing the agony. How do you have access to the storage space under the bed?
Can easily reach right under the bed from the back or anywhere along the sides as well. If the bed is folded out it maybe a little trickier. I considered the option to put like a pull out drawer underneath with access from the back but don’t think I’ll be going that route. Just don’t think it would be necessary in my case

Yeah sadly same here, just kinda hiding away from the madness.
How is the frame attached to the floor? I don"t want to put holes in the metal of my van
bought some aluminum L brackets and screwed them into the bed frame and then into the floor of the fan. Does not go through the metal
Looks like you ran out of gas at the end. Thought you were going to take a nap. :D Still, you're doing a great job!
I honestly thought about just going to bed in the back and not going inside haha
Use Spacer! Washers
Good job but I think I would have used a 30" Klymit sleeping pad on the truck bed. Lol
Haha also an option. Nice to have the storage available underneath though!
I think I saw a guy cut a bottom slant out to make it curve up to fit.
In the instructions they sand everything down which may help too but I feel like with the crazy weather changes where I live chopping off the length will work out better haha
Can someone who is 5 ft tall stand up in this van?
Hey Mang, if you want help building out your van at all I am a carpenter and general tradesman and I also have tools and a small shop space along with a sawmill and lots of low cost materials. great, I have a NV200, and I want make the same bed. Have you please the dimensions for me? (in cm or in ")
Greets from Germany
Instead of screws suggest using Nail gun! Glue and Brads should have helped you save time and energy! You are awesome anyways! Keep up the good work waiting for ur next video!
Ya that definitely would have sped things along haha
Awesome 👍
Does it lift as well to get access underneath?
Nah didnt want to go that route. Have seen ones that do though which is pretty cool. Planning to store things underneath in easily removable plastic bins
nice
how much did this cost ?
Silky man hands, like, subscribe, I don't care LMBO very funny
looks great--- until you weigh it.... no reason for the overkiil--- the engine says so...2x2 is more than enough
If you would have put a spacer in every other it would have worked.
Looks assom, How is your van now
