I turned this old 2014 Nissan NV200 into a complete stealth camper for about $1500! Her name is "Pagurus," and she's been all over the US and much of Canada.
Complete with:
• Refrigerator
• Toilet
• Sink (Ikea Dogbowl)
• Shower - LINK* amzn.to/2PF9Vir
• Faucet - LINK* amzn.to/31L0kJo
• Heat
• Folding Bed VALLENTUNA www.ikea.com/u...
• Table FLOTTEBO www.ikea.com/u...
Using Ikea cabinets and furniture with four-way stretch carpet kept the the building to a minimum.
•••LOTS of comments on the bed. It's an Ikea Vallentuna sleeper from their sectional. Just the sleeper part, nothing else. www.ikea.com/u...

The reflective vest is a good idea, but having a bunch of sun faded paperwork all over the dash really makes it look like a work van.
I often leave a fast food bag on the dash or passenger seat. :)
That back vent is pure genius!
Thanks - it’s a bit risky though, as exhaust could come through, but I’m careful to keep it covered when I’m driving.
@@jeffwagg thank you for this detail :)
Dont vehicles already have vents for circulation?
The Uni-Strut or whatever that metal rail is on top…
I put a Thule roof rack on my NV200 and then installed that rail on the cross bars. I did that bc the roof on my 2020 model is curved. Did you just crank down on those bolts and flatten it out? I put 3 solar panels on top of mine and laid width-wise that was 2.2m of roof space, the entire roof so that curvature prevented me from doing this.
Yeah, you should have skipped your electrical system.
What an awesome build. I've watched a hundred build videos, but this has everything, and well organized. Great video- Thank you!
Orangey red lights are more conducive to a human's eye sight as it allows more to be seen than a glaring white/yellowish lighting effect, so good on you for choosing it.
Having the red light option is great. Easier on the eyes, and if you’re stealth camping, much less noticeable to people on the outside.
I attend astronomy events sometimes, so it’s a must.
Like the hidden loo...& backdoor peep hole...& swivel tap u can attach shower hose. This is well designed - & u've thought of everything.
Right? All those things! Plus a budget dog bowl sink.
Yeah, the hidden toilet is lux!
I really like it. I'm hoping to get a nissan van & convert it as well for 2 people.
They're great vans. For two folks, you'll want fewer cabinets, and maybe some roof storage. :) My wife can actually sleep across the front seats of mine.
This is one of the smartest small van stealth build I have seen! So simple but functional!
this couch ikea pull out thing is brilliant ! its a great use of space in my opinion well done
Thanks Louis! Every inch counts!
@@jeffwagg yeah thats right which is why the double use of space you did is so smart
Beautiful van! I’m going to borrow from your design :) A few questions: those Ikea cubes. How to they handle the shaking nd climate variations in a hot or cold van? Also, did you insulate the van? And finally, that vent. I realized i couldn’t install a MaxxAir because the structure beams are too close for the 14 inch standard opening. I guess it was the only option?
@@grandmeaulne The cubes have done fine - they move a bit, but when attached to each other as a unit and to the side of the van in one place, they're pretty solid. The doors are the weak point - the magnetic catches do NOT hold the doors shut, hence the other things I used.
The vent is a Vanair Ventline, and it's fine, but not as a good as Maxair. The folks who put a full sized 14x14 fan in these simply cut through one of though roof ribs. It's fine. The roof can only hold 100lbs anyway, so you really shouldn't be putting much up there. Solar is fine.
As for insulation, yes, I did. Felt on the floor and walls, poly iso on the ceiling, rock wool in the crevices and closed cell spray foam in the ribs, back doors, etc.
@@jeffwagg thats what she said🤣😂 couldnt help myself🤐 love the van man, imma get one of these nv200 aswell, they look great!
you have the most efficient awesome made van I have ever seen and I have watched for 2 years
Looks. GREST. YOU SEEM TO HAVE IT ALL.
This is my most like setup van
Someone did actually copy this build with some improvements. :) I thought it was my van at a quick glance.
One of the cleanest and best builds I've seen. It's like when planning a boat trip, for each item, get a backup, then have a backup for the backup.
Build to go :: this is great when ur working away from home, will save a bit on hotels. Wow u have a toilet, ace plus a cold shower, till u get home. Great van tour....thanq
That's awesome dude. I hid my solar panels behind roof bars to make it even more stealthy. You can even add a ladder and pop some magnetic business logos on the side to blend in
I had always intended to put something over the angle iron. But now the new owner will do something cool with it.
Loved!
I have a 2019 NV200. No build build for now, but want to do something more like you in the some day
Your van is amazing. I'm looking into NV200s to convert and yours is just what I was looking for.
Nice job
DANKE = THANK YOU for a such a interesting & informativ video.
Best regards from Southern Germany, Stuttgart - the city of Mercedes 🙂
That vent license is genius ❤
You’re so blessed..!
Love the build
. Some great and clever ideas. Thank you. the wobbly camera is giving me vertigo though😂
Sorry about that - it was originally a Facebook Live.
Wow this is a very well done wan, everything in there built is very functional. Well done my friend. U r hell of a smart man.
Great ikea implementation efficient
Hi. Am really impressed by your built, and i’m currently building a carbon copy for my NV 200. I find the Eket solution just perfect, given my limited skills. I will make a video linking yours to give you full credit.
I do have a question about the drawer unit next to your bed. Is it built on IKEA legs? How did you attach it to the driver-side wall? Love that Ikea mini table. Could you show me how you installed it? And finally, the pole for the curtains. I wanted to do something similar but noticed it’s in the way of side air-bags. How did you get around? Thanks so much. My name is Stephane and i come from Montreal, Canada.
The drawer unit is on Ikea legs. I cut them down to be exactly the right height. The cabinets are only attached to the wall in one place: in the top left corner of the large drawer unit. I shaved off the sharp corner so it would fit the wall better, and then put a screw into the van's wall there.
The curtain rod is just a shower rod (the kind you twist to tighten) and it's inserted into two Xs cut in the headliner. I made sure that they missed the air bag - it's easy to see and feel if you mess around up there.
I love Montreal, and hope to be able to visit again as soon as it's safe. :) Feel free to write me directly at jeff@builttogo.com with any questions.
@@jeffwagg Much respect Jeff. I’m down to installing water and power. I can’t wait to share my project with you
i am just converting my NV200, got a lot of great ideas.thank you!
Best of luck in your project! They're great vans.
Did your fix the eket to the ground, Wall? did you put an extra floor into the car?
@@jeffwagg
I did screw it into the support pillars on the side of the van, and I screwed the cubes into each other. I also put a couple of screws into the floor. I did NOT have a subfloor in this vehicle because ceiling height was critical - the floor was just a bit of masonite with vinyl tiles over it. This furniture if fairly fragile, so when you screw it in to things, use good washers because the screw heads will pull out. @@heinrichstreintz2852
I’m baffled. Even though I just watched the entire video, carefully, I still can’t work out how you managed to pack so much in so well!! 😂😂 Brilliant.
It's bigger on the outside than it is on the inside. :) It used to look like a police box, but I kicked it an it was a van.
@@jeffwagg I just subbed to your podcast too; excellent, thank you
@@jeffwagg - well done, Doctor.
Great build ideas! Thanks for sharing.
BEST VIDEOS EVER!!✌
Thanks😊👍
Sir... you got the neatest nv2000 stealth van camping build... ever! 👑✨👌
Thank you!
Your build is awesome.
Thank you!
Watch the whole vdo. Love it make me wants to go get a van now lol
Paint your solar panel frame white so it blend's in , back to being stealth.
Whatever floats your boat. Many very clever things! But the bed is a bit of a fail to me. No storage under the bed and you have to pull it out every night. Got an NV200 myself and has made a simple conversion. A permanent bed with plenty of storage room under is a must for me.
Yep, the nice thing is that you can do what you want with your van. This bed has the advantage of being removable and replaced easily. Helpful when you need to move 10 bags of mulch. :)
That's a pretty smart build. 👌
A great van build--with stealth.
Great video, I’ve got a different layout in mind for my van but I’ve picked up some great Ideas from yours! Thanks!
Great! If anyone was going to copy mine, I'd want to talk them - I'm planning on a more detailed video in the future that will discuss some of the problems with this design. They all have pluses and minuses of course. Good luck with your build!
I like the Ikea, idea
One of my favorite builds! Thanks for sharing
Your van has a awesome idea~ Great!😊
Very clever!
Super clever and thorough fit out. Thanks for sharing all those ideas
Nice job, always good to see how others have converted a NV200 "on the cheap", nothing wrong with using bits and pieces from Ikea :)
Thanks! 👍 Ikea has some good bits - I think custom cabinets would be better, but poorly done custom cabinets would not be. For my next build, I'll give custom a shot, but it's definitely out of my comfort zone.
@@jeffwagg I built my cabinets using Ikea kitchen doors, good and cheap and no major joinery skills needed. When you come to do your next build maybe rope in a friend to give you a hand? Anyway, enjoy your van, safe travels (Y)
@@nv200camper4 This is a GREAT way to go. I redid a home with an Ikea kitchen and it's much better quality than the furniture. Not an allen wrench in sight!
Also, you can find bits and pieces in the As Is section for really cheap. All my bamboo counter top came from there and it was like $15.
It’s beautiful!!!…❤️😊👍
Been listening (well I should say binging) to your podcast for a while at work, awesome to finally see your van! So awesome what you did with such little space definitely very inspirational. I never looked at the smaller vans like that to pursue my dream of van life but I would definitely consider it now!
Thanks, Chris! That’s very kind of you. Should be heading off to its new owner on Friday. :( ,.,.,
It looks amazing. You have thought of everything, it looks really comfy too x
Love the build. So much inspo to get my 04 sienna van build going. Thanks!!!
I luv it.
Wow, awesome build, way to maximize space. Was going to ask where your grey water went until you showed it near the end - simple but brilliant
Man, the BEST NISSAN NV200 I ve ever seen!!!!! Congrats! The most beautiful minicamper! I love your hooks, the details and you are very practical. Exactly like I am. You've done this wonderfully, really. I bought one in red and soon I go in tour. Still in progress, 😄
Thank you for your inspiration! 🍀 🍄 🌈
I'm inspired by your build. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice...but electrical under the sink?! Eek! But very clean build! One of the most open feeling micro camper vans I've seen. I bet that velcrowall is so useful.
maybe a built in cooktop with a flat cover for counterspace when not in use. This could give you more drawer space.
Yes, not ideal, but it worked well space wise. If I were rebuilding it, I’d move the electrical back one cabinet.
@@jeffwagg I'm looking at a few microvans myself. Maybe I can be like you when I grow up. :-D
very nice build ! Bravo !
Best bed... It's keep it clean for bed time... Open it only when ready to sleep & all door is locked 😂
I wish I could make it too. Nice built 👍👍👍👍👍
❤❤❤ love what you’ve done 👌🏻
Nice to finally see you and your van build! Your podcast has been inspirational. I might just go out and buy a fire extinguisher as a symbolic token of my future van.
Do! And I hope you never need it. Thanks for the kind words.
That's why I'm gonna do this weekend! Buy a cute red fire extinguisher for the van I will hopefully get in ,2021!
Love the van..so comfortable
Very well.planned layout. I really enjoyed seeing this. 👍
Nice. I cant wait to get myself a van!!
❤️❤️❤️ really ideas
Awesome rig!! I love the plant lever (and a whole bunch of other features).
Loved the setup but Loved your sense of humor even more. So Great! 🤣🤣👏🏼👏🏼💜 Nice job and Happy Travels!! 😁🙏🏼💜💖🎶🌞🌈🚙💨
My favorite conversion so far. Great job. You've got many (fans) right here also. Thanks for sharing.
Great build!
Love the stealth vent.
Thank you. The vent worked, but one has to be very careful that exhaust isn't sneaking in. If you do something like that, make sure you can close it. :)
Great van build 👏
6:36 no secret storage anymore 😁
Or maybe that's just a honey pot and there is OTHER secret storage... but I'm not saying that.
@@jeffwagg stay safe !!
Super clean rig. Very efficient. Do you plan to get a high top next year? Or plan to stick with the same type??
I bought an ambulance with a high top. While high tops are nice, I still think low tops have a lot of advantages.
Nice build! Very creative and very practical. Love it!
I'm so glad I have an ikea card.
Binging your podcast mate, and had to check out your NV200.
Welcome to our very strange country! Sorry for our lack of a decent flat white.
Hahaha, Coffee is my real bugbear with USA. You hit the nail on the head. @@jeffwagg
I had a similar gripe in Sydney when I ordered an iced coffee, and they had NO idea what I was on about. @@AnAussieinAmerica
I just bought one of these and I’m looking to convert! I love your tour that was fun… Where did you get the pull out bed? Is that from IKEA?
Yes, bed is Ikea Vallentuna. There's a link to it in the description.
Question: how do people keep things cool when parked? Can foods, electroics, lithium batteries don't do well in high temps. I won't do a van setup without a a/c unit. Heat is ez. A/c is a must.
I’ve not had a problem with excessive heat, other than adhesives melting on cheap Velcro.
As there is no practical way to do AC for off grid use in a van of this size, I simply avoid the hottest places in the summer. I find that so long as I can get the inside below 80°F at night, fans keep me comfortable.
If you’re willing to restrict yourself to campgrounds, you could put a small AC unit in, but I’m not willing to do that.
I get ya, but a/c can be done with the right sized battery/panels ect. Having lived in a van, I know I have to be ready for anything. Back then, I had to travel for work. I had no control on where I was. I used the a/c system in the van which was expensive. Vegas and the Southwest was the tuffest challange. Now with the heat waves and crazy weather, there's no telling what you'd run into or where.
Glad it's not a problem for you.
I was more interested in high heat when the van is closed up and you were away from it. Temps inside can get well over 100° F to 160° or more. So, I was wondering what effect that would have.
@@iketheranter9126 I've had my van in the deserts of Nevada as well as southern Florida, and heat in the van while it's parked hasn't been a problem for things like propane and aerosol cans. Just adhesives.
Very well build! But, please improve your camera movement. As a viewer I don't want to see every eye-movement of you, hold the camera still for a moment, so that I can see something by myself.
Thanks for the feedback. This video was a Facebook Live originally.
7:08 - For us normal people, 38F is 3.33C.
I live in a silly country.
First of all, this is the funniest camper van tour I have seen. The fruit doesn't stick. haha. But secondly, some amazingly clever ideas I have definitely not seen elsewhere. I am gaga for the vanity with mirror, and would love the showerhead on a hook vs handheld so I can wash my hair easily. But also impressed by something as simple but important as a security peephole. And, I can not believe how you hid that toilet in such a small space! Thanks so much for this. Major props to a fellow Chicagoan!
Thanks for the very kind words, Mary! Hoping to do some sort of Chicagoland van meetup after we're done with this pandemic.
The concern over such aspects as, for example, using IKEA cabinets & such, is thoroughly tempered by the savings of perhaps over $150,000.00 dollars from those Corp.-produced numbers.. I like it..
I love your van ♥
How does it drive in snow? I'm debating between this direction or a subaru with a rooftop tent. Or maybe this van with a roof top tent, but I bet the mpg will drop below 20 with it
Sorry for the long delay - I found the NV200 to be very capable in snow. Certainly NOT like a Subaru, but I never ever had problems in Chicago winters.
Nice thoughtful build! I believe the Ikea brand materials are very appropriate for this type of build due to lighter weight materials and flexible sizes. Easier hauling weight on the vehicle as well. So I don't think that apologies are necessary. Thanks for sharing!
I'm amazed! I just bought the same van in Cayenne Red 3 days ago, and didn't know how much stuff would be possible to get in there.
I love the bed and the sink/shower deal especially. Great job!
The great part of using IKEA is the amount of spare parts and when there’s smaller changes you want to do through time in the van it’s is affordable and easy to do. It looks like home.
Nice
Very nicely done. I am in a beginning stage of converting little Nissan NV200 myself. What did you use for the roof rack? Looks like super struts from Home Depot.
Roof racks came with the van... solar is attached to the rails with angle iron from, you guessed it, Home Depot.
Brilliant, what a great build. I got so many ideas and inspiration. Would like to see videos on your build itself, the walls and carpeted compartments are so well done. Great job 👍
Sadly, I did not record as I built. :(
超级可爱的介绍,粉了!❤
谢谢你的客气话!
Solar panals are the most conspicuous camper van thing you can put on a van.
And yet, they were very rarely noticed, even by people working on the vehicle.
@@jeffwagg you do realize 99% of people who recognize a van is being used for camping or living never tell the person who owns the van. It seems hard to believe people who work on vans wouldn’t notice solar panels on a van….hey you think solar panels can be stealth ok, seems delusional to me.
@@MrZola1234 Stealth is about being ignorable, not invisible. If you're out in Colorado in the summer, EVERY van is assumed to be a camper van. But in the Midwest? Camper vans aren't common enough to be common knowledge. I never had a problem in the 25 or so states I camped in.
You also have to be above the roof to see them - which is about 6'3". If you drive by in a car, they're invisible.
@@jeffwagg i get most people don't bother you or you have never been bothered, but i wouldn't think of that as stealth. Solar panels stick out like a sore thumb.
I want this exact set up and completely lack all the skills needed to make something like this at all.
I have very few skills. If you can build an Ikea cabinet, you can have a build like this.
where did you find your bed ? can you make more clear describe how you made it ?
It’s from IKEA. There’s a link in the description.
That bed is just genius-level ingenuity!
Hi you, it’s MJ! I like your #vanconversion and your channel so much, I’m now a subscriber! Awesome!!!!🌺
i gotta nv200 too - i'm gonna copy a loooootta your stuff - thanks dude !
Hi! Im thinking of using a few EKET cabinets in my van but I'm afraid they'll go open if I ride on a bumpy road. Did you encounter that? Or is the push to open system safe?
You will absolutely need another closing system.
I am very curious with more interest why so many switches(7 or 8) by electrical cabinet. Also would love to see how the adjustable TV tray table layout look like within the van space. Can this van increase it's solar panels collection for more electric power or more batteries packs to add volume? Thanks you for sharing.
I like switches. I had switches for the different kinds of lighting, the ceiling fan, the water pump, etc. the switch block was also the fuse block, as each switch has its own circuit breaker.
There was space for more battery, but not that much. I had two 35ah batteries, which was fine for the low draw I had. For solar, a clever person could probably have fit 400w up there is they removed the ceiling vent or made it work under the panels.
The tv tray just stood in front of the chair, and if the chair was in bed mode, the legs would fit under the bed with the table hanging over. I also used it outside a lot.
Your vans conversion is amazing! I hope your doing great... i can really hear a man heavily breathing.. enjoy your travel and keep safe =) ciao!
Thanks, and yep, I'm a heavy breather. Pulse Ox is good though. :)
Super nice mini Van build. I'm looking to do something similar but trying to decide between the Nissan Nv200 or Ford Transit connect. I was reading how bad some folks rate the CVT belt transmission, especially when they get over 150K miles. Any issues or thoughts? Thanks.
Nissan did have a CVT problem, but it didn't seem to affect the vans. With mine, when I hit 150K, I had the transmission fluid changed. It's supposed to be "lifetime" but for about $300 I had a Nissan dealer change it and it was fine. The vehicle is NOT rated for towing, though I did tow a very light trailer a bit with no problems. I like the Transit Connect as well, but the NV200 had a taller interior roof, and that makes a big difference.
Noooice
In the UK, Nissan used to sell electric version eNV200. About £26K for 40 kWh battery. No more. Factory moved from Spain to France.
I absolutely love Your van! Very cosy and nicely composed!
Four way stretch carpet. What tools did you need for the installation?
Sharp, heavy duty scissors, some spray on adhesive, and some plastic spatula like tools if you're picky. A razor blade comes in hand too.
Most of the stretching I did with my hands, though I've seen others use plastic tools.
Thanks!
