    Love the layout... beautiful too and the extra bed is such a plus. Re the shower: If you had strong magnets on the ceiling and a metal ring, you could zip tie the shower curtain to the ring and raise and lower it in one movement. Or if you had metal plates on the ceiling, you could zip tie the shower curtain to magnets with rings and then attach them to the plates on the ceiling. Either scheme would save you a lot of set up.

    • @tristian9006
      @tristian9006 4 месяца назад +4

      There are magnetic clips, cabinets on Amazon. Different strengths I used them they work great. This would work for a shower curtain

  • @SkyForest-rg2gw
    @SkyForest-rg2gw Год назад +62

    For the shower, it would be nice if you could keep the black curtain frame together, then take it off and place it in the floor pan so you don't have to do as much setup each time! The curtain wouldn't need time to dry and it would be in the center of the drain pan. Maybe use 20-10 gauge metal wire to reduce its size to fit, like an old coat hangers, or an elastic cord? For the outside shower, I would use a magnet with a hook to hold the shower head. For the bikes, is there anything under the 2" where the handles are? If not i would cut a notch for them to sit in, you could probably use an oscillating chisel. Wicked build, great use of space! Happy travels, cheers ^-^ 🍻

    Brilliant. Love the urinal. Very practical. Mug of water to sluice it through and happy days.
    The only niggle for me would be that there's no access from the cab to the back via the bulkhead. Point being is that if a bunch of unsavory people have surrounded your van then you'd have to get out of the van to greet them before driving off. For security reasons I wouldn't like that experience, so I'd have to have internal access to the driving seat, even if climbing over the headrests was the only option.
    Hope you have a fab time in your van, excellent job for a first build, and well thought out.

    • @befer
      @befer Месяц назад +1

      That's honestly what i thought too. Maybe not that drastic, and not so post-apocalyptic.
      The idea or the problem rather is complicated. While sure, you get much more light coming through the windshield, and maybe are able to converse with the people in the back and whatnot, You're also gonna smell up the whole cabin with food, considering that it's right there next to it. I'm assuming that the problem isn't as bad in the back of the van, because it's quite far and you can wide open the back doors, It'd be quite obnoxious to get rid of the small in the cabin.
      There's pros and cons of everything. Just choose your devil

    One of my very favorite van builds. Really well thought out. I love the winows, the breakfast bar/desk area and kitchen. Also the divider wall. It really does give the sense of separate spaces.For safety I would want a crawl through hatch to the cab. I saw someone who integrated the hatch with the bulkhead kitchen wall with small shelves and baskets for kitchen storage and when the dors were shut you wouldn't know it was there.

    Great job and great layout.
    Since this type of shower is my favorite, (although I didn't implement it in my van since it is a Vivaro which is too small to have a shower inside) allow me to share one small improvement you may be interested in.
    I don't like the feel of a plastic curtain sticking on my body while showering and I am pretty sure that this curtain is not wide enough to avoid it.
    If this is the case, my solution to this problem is to make a conical curtain that will have a perimeter equal to the perimeter of the shower at the bottom but a much wider perimeter on top, so that you get enough clearance from the curtain not to ever touch it during showering. You don't even have to use conduit to secure it in place. A garden hose and four hooks will hold it in place just fine. The garden hose can have quick release connectors at the ends to connect them and form a circle. The curtain will have to have a loop on the top section to let the garden hose run through, 4 holes for the hooks will have to be opened, and 4 hooks or rings on the van ceiling to anchor the top of the curtain. The whole system will still be small enough to fit in the void under the floor.
    The curtain can also have velcro at the bottom to secure itself on the shower tray so you never have a leak while you shower.

When Mitch provided the tour of your garage, he said he had mistakenly done just that. I guessed he was kicking himself over it because of that 2" loss in the garage height. Don't let that bug you, Mitch...you two did an AMAZING job on the design and build. Anyone who's customized a van before has also made that type and other miscalculations. Yes this was my first thought as well. I will be installing a window where they have the "coat cabinet" and moving the stove to where they made the desk. That way I can climb in and out if I need to over the counter. lol silly but I am tiny so it will work fine for me, and give me access and an additional view to the front of the van through the kitchen slider window. Unless anyone can see why this is a bad idea, please let me know, I am new to all this getting ready for van life!

    I would not have guessed your experience level had you not mentioned it.

    Even if the market bottom drops out you’ll still be right side up and it’s your home for adventure!

    Cracking build guys, in the middle of doing mine so may pinch a few ideas and products. I hunted high and low for a shower tray and did not find one so settled for ourdoor shower between the open rear doors with a shower curtain across the doors, but might add an internal now. To fix garage just raise the bed, fix a bit ply using the bed support fixings lift as much as you need then re fit the hangers to that bit of ply and insert the ikea supports at the new height job done.

    That is a fantastic Build. The attention to detail is genuinely incredible, ESPECIALLY for an amateur build.
    This is more or less exactly the layout i had in mind when designing the van that i want to build, except few things, but your creation also gave me the idea of how it would look in a space and i like your solutions as well.
    I especially love the small details like:
    -The ports in an electrical cabinets
    -The bench/desk area
    -the shower solution
    You opened my eyes to few problems that i didn't consider before, like the shower idea is just pure genius. Before, I couldn't think of a good place for the shower, and was actually considering the area where your bench/toilet is instead.
    I didn't even think of (not) removing the partition wall from the driver's cabin, because you automatically associate the act of removing it with "Hey, there's more space now, more Light and i can move more freely" But it's just an illusion of space. In your case you utilized the wall to your absolute advantage. I love your kitchen, i like it more than my actual kitchen. No doubt about that.
    I'd love to see the schematics for the electric stuff, because while I have absolute no idea how anything electric works, and i pray every time i plug anything into an outlet, I could get someone to help me with it, and I bet if i showed them what i want, it'd be x1000 easier for everyone involved.
    I genuinely appreciate the thought that got put into the electrical stuff. I don't know if mitch is an electrician or just a guy trying stuff out, but regardless, the electrial seems very solid.
    I don't have much else to say at this time, because my ideas work in my head, and your ideas work in real life. That's class.

    13:10 _overleg cupboards..._ Lovely van! Really spacious, airy, and based on the comments, curious as to what is up with the shower! The only thing I would have difficulty living with, is the toilet so out in the open. But of course that would immediately breech the open space and airiness of the van if you would build a separate toilet area but still, privacy and all...
    Great build overall, well done!

    Love the van and it's a great total price for what you've ended up with. I think I'd prefer a walk-through design though (without a back wall in the cab), and I'd probably keep the shower rail permanently fixed to save setting it up each time, or use magnets instead of a rail. Great work for having no experience! 👏🏼

      So what Manner do you use to dispose of your urine? Is it being separated from the feces and being dumped out by the gallon? Are you soaking it up with pea powder and then putting it into your local landfill? I would love to know which option is less gross as I'm building out a sprinter at the moment🎉 look forward to your insightful suggestions😮

    • @MidNiteBlueRose9
      @MidNiteBlueRose9 Год назад +2

      Justjudy, I've done a lot of research and what they do is definitely the most efficient route. It's gotta get taken care of somehow. However having it go on the ground could be bad for the ground if done for a long time (look up Leave No Trace if curious). Maybe look up some solidifying gels. There's an older lady on here that said they're wonderful and easily go into a bin. I personally don't like the idea of dumping a tank of my own liquid urine so trashing solid urine is much better. 😂 But to each their own.

    Nice build-out!
    Adding a pico/portable projector and a retractable boom/awning out either the back or side (both, if you set the angle right and use a portable projector to allow for projection distances). This would allow you to expand your living/bedroom areas and out the side, with extended poles and support, you can even offer a movie theater to any fellow campers or multipurpose a blackout curtain as the backdrop, to keep from bothering neighbors. A small factor 7.1 surround sound audio package can provide entertainment and can be fine tuned with an EQ or DSP receiver. A DVD/CD/MP3 player can provide audio input/output and can be added to the front cabin dashboard w/remote control, to simplify setup/utilization. As for output power - always go for more, double if you can, as that invertor might struggle if cooking on the electic griddle while jamming out on a podcast/youtube recording session/entertainment. Also, radiant piping of water under your floor, using minimal spacing, would allow for more water storage as well as the option of heating the floor. Just a thunk. Nicely done! Enjoy and perhaps add an ebike or two to provide alternative transportation/recreation/use of excess power. ;)
