After watching many such videos, I vote this to be the one best slide-out bed build by far. Thank you!
Thank you that’s really nice of you too say 🤙🤓
Definitely one of the best I've seen as well!
Me too🙂
IKR
I agree : the best of the best ! Thank you !!
Mel is one of the best out there. No fancy workshops or DeWalt tools. He inspires every day people who don't have the money to splash out on a £50k van build. A godsend to novice van builders🥰
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say really appreciate your encouragement and support 👍🤓👍
Ahhhh !! All other videos I watched on the subject are in the trash this is the only one you need great detailed information thanks a bunch!
That’s really kind of you to say thank you and good luck with your build 😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I agree with Janae .. .I built a similar one and had issues with friction when sliding it in and out. will revise the construction now based on your advive. thanks a lot man!
@@kschleyerbach thank you and good luck with your build 👍😊👍
I made a fixed bed to accommodate my 6 foot partner, so will attempt to change to into a slide out bed...watch this space. Thanks
Sounds great good luck with your project I look forward to seeing your video 👍🤓👍
Simplicity is masterpiece. Thanks, Mel! Insightful and useful. Very much appreciated 👍
Thank you for your encouragement and support really appreciated 👍
Great slide out and great craftsmanship. I would have placed a piano hinge at the wall end only screwed to the fixed pieces of lumber. That would allow me to open the top to access storage space below. Also, I would have pre drilled the holes in the lumber to avoid cracking.
Built the bed. Thought I didn't really need the washers. Had to take it apart and put washers in. Damn Brit was right. Thanks for your expertise from across the pond!
Thanks for taking the time to comment real kind of you good luck with the rest of your build 👍😊👍
Love the garage under as well. Simple and effective.
This is by far the best slat bed tutorial I have seen (and I have been watching slat bed tutorials for about 15 years (to place in my tiny house for visitors) thank you for sharing and the attention to detail! New subscriber!
Thank you that’s really kind of you 👍😊👍
15 years of slat bed videos and you haven't figured it out yet.. hmm
Thank you so much for this simple but great tutorial I will deffinitelly use this in my van build!🙏
Thank you and good luck with your build 👍
You make it look simple, I think I will give it a go for the new bed
Go for it 🤓👍

Thank you that’s really kind of you to say would be nice to get out and about soon 👍😊👍
Mel you are the BEST. Thank you for your time and videos...:)
Thank you I really appreciate that 🤙🤓
Perfect explanations. Just what I needed. Thanks!
Thank you you’re absolutely welcome 👍🤓👍
My sincere thanks! I just built the couch bed you described using mostly 2x3 lumber. The chamfering and use of washers in the build was simply genius. I built if for my 16x10 shed that I turned into a bunk house. I decided to make a queen size version that will work very well for sleeping.
Glad I could help!
You are the first person that explains everything in every detail even know I do not understand much English but I wanna thank you for taking your time and Sharing your beautiful job thank you so much man
You are absolutely welcome thank you for your encouragement and support really appreciated 👍🤓👍

Brilliant tutorial Mel, I'm sure many viewers will find this very helpful. I had to LOL when you said about putting the camera on the fast forward thinymagigy. Time-lapse :P
Oh time lapse that’s what it’s called lol 😂 thanks for that 👍👍🍻🤙🤓
Mel your an absolute diamond 👍🏻 I'm converting a 8' x 5' x 6' square Tickners cargo trailer and I have followed you on every addition of your build and pinched all of your ideas. It has helped me so much with your straight forward every day English and no nonsense instructions. Cheers buddy keep up the brilliant work. Dave from Chelmsford 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hay Dave that’s really kind of you to take the time to comment and letting me know you have found my videos helped you it make all the hard work worthwhile 👍😊👍

VK7HKN Radio thank you So nice to get positive feedback really appreciate your support too 🤓🤙
Best explanation I have seen for a slat bed, simply superb! Thank you.
Equalize height of slats to any existing fixed bed portion.
Groove in the sliding section frame to move more freely on wood rail.
Washer to create clearance on moving slats but not fixed slats.
Flip all slats with smooth edge facing mattress so no snags.
Round out sharp edges of slats.
Chamfer the edges of the moving slat close to wall so they glide on top of the fixed rail support.
Small gap between every slat so they move freely and mattress has good air flow (no mold).
Cut legs of moving side a sliver shorter so they move easily.
Bed must pass Black Cat Inspection Team!
A most delightful video! Loved the Black Cat who looks like my beloved cat Lucifer who passed away a few years ago. And I really liked your detailed explanation. It is the small details that hamper each project. Subscribed.
Now I have to figure out how to make the top slats hinge upwards so I can inspect my water tank below, without removing the bed entirely.
Thank you for taking the time to comment that’s really appreciated
Thank you so much from this middle aged German gal that only ever built stuff from Ikea and had not bought one screw in her life before. That was a very helpful video and I was actually able to finish my very own pull out bed in just one day, even though it looks a bit more wonky than your fantastic work. ;) Keep being awesome and please say hello to kitty cat from me!
You are absolutely welcome thank you for the positive feedback really appreciated good luck with your build 👍😊👍
You did it again! Another winner. Well done Mel
Thank you 🤙🤓
Thanks for going over the details on how this works!
You’re absolutely welcome thank you for the positive feedback really appreciated 👍😊👍
I used your methods and it worked out great!! The washers was a great idea to give a small gap. Worked first try. Didn't have to redo anything and it slides out so smooth. Thank you!!
Way hay brilliant thank you for taking the time to let me know I really appreciate it good luck with the rest of your build 👍😊👍
Do those washers go on each of the pull out slats or just the end ones?
@@c3pbo in-between each slat as your building just to add a small gap before you screw it down.
Very nice. About to make a similar bed for my van. Great tips on fitment.
You might consider rubbing the slider boards with a bar of soap. It lubricates the surfaces nicely.
Thank you and good luck with your build great tip thanks 👍🤓👍
I,M IMPRESSED!! GOOD JOB!! LEARNED A LOT THANK YOU,PATRICK.P
You’re absolutely welcome thank you for your positive feedback and encouragement really appreciated 👍🤓👍
These are EXACTLY the tips that I needed for what I hope to build soon. Thank you so much!!
You are absolutely welcome thank you for taking the time to comment really appreciate it good luck with your build 👍😊👍
Finally a well built slide out bed video! Im getting ready to build one and Im trying to decide on what size wood I will use for the slats. Can you feel the space between yours? I am currently thinking about using 1x2. Thanks
Thank you really appreciate your positivity as long as you have a thick mattress you can’t feel anything I used an 8 inch and I just ordered an 8 inch memory foam mattress for the van I’m building now 👍🤓👍
This is hand down the best tutorial of a pull out bed I've seen!! Thank you for your hard work and contribution to us vanlifers!!
Hi Liz I’m glad you found it useful thank you for your positive feedback that makes all the hard work worthwhile good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Genuinely helpful advice. Looking at making a bed to replace one with all the sticking issues you mentioned - good to know how to avoid them!
Thank you for explaining so clearly.
You are absolutely welcome 👍🤓👍
PS - What do you think of the NEW Toyota Hiace Van ?
Do you mean the Toyota Pro Ace? because unfortunately the Hiace is no longer available for in the UK
@@ALYDAVIDSON1 Not sure of naming but this one - www.toyota.com.au/hiace
l have an 85 Hi Ace 2.5D with almost 500k kms on it.
Converted into Camper Van by the previous owner, l've 'modified' a few things over the last 20 years.
(the solar panel was the best idea so far - 4 years now!)
@@louisjantzen7141 There's alot to like about the new Hiace .. but i bet it won't get 500K .. LOL. Toyota don't build bullet-proof tanks anymore.
Just saw that link, Remus.
WTF is wrong with Toyota (& Lexus)???
They're making 'em uglier & uglier every day, bejaysus.
My pal just bought that new Prius (or whatever), and it looks like a bloated Nissan Juke ffs.
wow...
