To me, it's the little things about the way the Elantra drives that bother me. Like if you are at a stoplight and want to pin it when it turns green, it will wheel hop and struggle for traction throughout first and second gear. Coming out of turns, you have to wait until your wheel is straight before pinning it, or it will again struggle for traction. It's too stiff, too crazy, and I question the longevity of it.
WRX is one of those cars that you don't have to care about the way you drive. Floor it under any condition or steering angle and it will hunker down, then blast you off. It's a tad slower overall than the Elantra under perfect weather and road conditions, but take an Elantra up against the WRX anywhere there are bad roads, loose gravel, or inclement weather, and you will be a frustrated Elantra owner. The Elantra N is a revelation to drive... in California, 10 months out of the year. Anywhere where true winters exist, it's a total mess in the real world.
I owned a Focus ST that had the same problem. WAY more fun than a WRX in perfect weather, similar power, better handling, and the overall better driver's car. But first and second gear were utterly useless if there was rain, and the thing just wasn't as confident in high speed canyon roads. It was also stiffer than a WRX, to the point of being kind of uncomfortable.
Once I got into a WRX, I could never go back to FWD. I've tried them all, Focus and Fiesta ST, Elantra and Veloster N, GLI and GTI, Civic Si and Type R... All of them except the Civic Si were compelling driver's cars. Among them, the N, Type R, and Focus ST were even more fun than the WRX.
But they can never match the WRX in sheer confidence on the road. You feel INVINCIBLE in a WRX. Curves in the road become an invitation to accelerate instead of braking. You can take corners way faster than you should. You can floor it from Cars and Coffee without the fear of Mustanging into the crowd or wheel hopping embarrassingly. The aftermarket is rich and varied, the community is strong, and it's a car that you can blow and rebuild over and over.
People are still rebuilding their 2002 Bugeye WRX's today; there are plenty of shops who build out EJ and FA motors, so it's easy to restore your WRX 20 years from now when people will finally like the style.
I have an Impreza Sport (Not WRX). Only 152 hp but I always feel faster than everyone else at curves, including Cameros, Mustangs, etc.
@@noob.168 If you save up to upgrade in the future, get a WRX. In my opinion, that extra 120HP makes the car an absolute blast and the best bang for buck "fast car" available on the market today.
Well said.
Nice video
Soft suspension ??? My 2022 WRX is like riding in a over sprung go kart.
nice
What else can find a car is AWD, Turbo, 6MT and mid size 4 door sedan under $30,000 (base model) and former Rally champ? And I like flat 4
He goes "I like Elantra, but I live in Wisconsin"...... So WRX has AWD, better visibility, softer suspension, plenty of power, cost way less than GR and yet he likes Elantra..... Go figure.
Right. No Rally backround, no huge after market, no cult following, and very little factory support regarding performance, not to mention ugly as hell.
How does the mpg stack up against the Jetta gli irl?
Horribly. I've been owning WRX's for years and years of different generations. The GLI will get you real-world maybe 27MPG or so even if you drive it mildly hard.
My 2022 WRX is getting... ~19MPG or so. The GLI is a great car. Not quite as fast, doesn't handle quite as well. But more comfortable, nicer interior, better MPG, and it's precise in the way all german performance cars are. It's a great driver, and I'd recommend it over a Civic Si any day of the week.
But the magic of the WRX is that you can drive like an ass everywhere in all conditions, and it will do what you ask every time. Pulling from a turn, you can floor it before the wheel is completely straight and it will accelerate. In the rain, it will accelerate. In dirt, gravel, sand, it will accelerate.
The WRX is sort of the everyman's superhero car; not the fastest in the world, not the most exciting. It won't get 30MPG, nor is it a super plush ride.
But it's the car you get if you want something to drive RAPIDLY with no effort. It's satisfying in a way only a WRX can be. Cheap thrills for the person who wants the flexibility to charge onto the highway at full throttle, take it through windy canyon roads, go through mountain or forest trails, take it across the country, cruise to a cars and coffee, or just pull into Albertson's for groceries.
“The Elantra N is just a lot more exciting”….except you have to tell people you drive a Hyundai. Not Han approved lol
This is 2016 thinking. Hyundai is a different proposition in 2022 to a few years ago.
Hyundai are junk period and been having a bad name forever same with kia
@@miraclemiler71 still the same to me
One, it's a Starter Car. Subaru *knows* buyers will start modding the heck out of it once they buy it. This is why we only get 3 hp increase over the previous version. Why it feels unfinished.... because it is! So, if you want a stock performance vehicle from the factory, you have to look elsewhere. Doesn't help that among its rivals, it consistently ends up being the slowest. Bare minimum, paint those hideous plastic, side-cladding pieces. (Unless you get the WRX in either grey or black.) Swap out the brake pads with better ones, and change the brake oil for a better grade. The brakes are the only part of the stock set-up that is woefully inadequate. Later on, swap out the exhaust. Seriously, this really is a Starter car. It's decent transportation in stock form. If Subaru could, they'd just sell you a shell with the AWD system in place, engine, trans., and the info-tainment system. You provide the rest. But legally, they can't do that.
Two, every insurance company is going to *R.* your wallet! And we all know what the "R" stands for. No, not Golf R. But if you have more money, it's worth a look with its performance and AWD capability. So is the Mazda 3 Turbo with its AWD system as well. If you'd like more luxury and are willing to sacrifice some performance.
To me Hyundai has a bad name and always will
that's not being very open-minded
@@downshiftjr3325 Kia/Hyundai = junk
At the end of the day the Elantra is still just a POS Hyundai 🤣🤣💩👍
Nah... in 2022 Hyundai makes much better cars than Subaru.
