      @scottykilmer The people claiming Japan has a population problem are the same people that want Japan to take in migrants like America's doing. Japan has stood strong for decades against having third world migrants flow in like groups like Amnesty International want so that's where the "Population Decline" comes from. The irony is the same people that promote mass immigration into the West also claim the Worlds overpopulated.

    The reason why newer designs don’t last as long is Planned Obsolescence. Companies realized it was more profitable to make sure cars would break after the warranty expired, to keep people interested in rotating out old cars for newer ones. Think engineers can’t design something to last 100s of thousands of miles with scheduled maintenance? Of course they can but they’d lose money.

      You blame the car manufacture but in reality there's EPA regulations like all cars need to get 60 mpg by 2030.
      They start replacing parts with plastic to reduce weight, increase mpg, put in a poopy 10 speed transmission to increase mpg. Make the engine out of 2 types of metal to reduce weight.
      Then all the safety regulations ... up until the epa is disbanded you're never getting a simple car again.

    • @RYTHMICRIOT
      @RYTHMICRIOT 9 дней назад +8

      There's a channel here on RUclips I watch called "I do cars" where the guy who runs a salvage business does engine teardowns. The most surprising trend (at least to me) is using the backside of the engine for timing and accessory drive systems. Particularly, the use of belts to drive the oiling system on some Ford Ecoboost and the new GM 3.0 Duramax. This way, you must separate the engine and transmission in order to service these vital components. I believe the thinking is that these items won't need service because of there's a failure, you just pay for a new engine.

    • @jasperjenkins3789
      @jasperjenkins3789 9 дней назад +13

      You’re absolutely right, companies design things to fail not to last. Parts, components etc. are tested to see when they fail and if after thousands of hours or cycles it’s still functioning they go back and tweak it to fail when they determine. This goes for pretty much EVERYTHING, for example why don’t diesel trucks designated for government use have def systems? Rules for thee but not for me.

    • @DecrepitBiden
      @DecrepitBiden 9 дней назад +8

      My brother is an engineer. He does part failure testing. So if a part fails at 50,000 repetition, the company will use a weaker material, so it fails faster. Then instead of just buying that 1 part, you have to buy an entire assembly/kit. Plus labor. $$$$$$$$

What were any up-front costs to install it. What is your battery charge percentage before and after charging? I have three friends in three different states and I know their answers to my questions. Or in the case of two of the three, I should say that I knew. One had buyers remorse and sold his EV, one sold his house and his EV, and the third only drivers his EV locally now because going from charger to charger on long distance trips often cut heavenly into his travel and / or vacation times. This would cost $65.50 to charge 0 to 100% (about the cost of 20 gallons in most states). Ford claims 320 miles of range. Thus in the worst case scenario, comparable cost of gasoline at 15 mpg.
    Charging at home for 10 cents per kWh allows soccer moms to avoid smelly gas stations while paying equivalent to 75 mpg in town. Most men in business suits appreciate the smell of splashed diesel from their RAMs with crapped out diesel injectors and rings.

    I am not someone who gets into religious wars about cars, computers, etc.,. Often it seems like people are arguing about which is better, a screwdriver, a hammer, or a wrench. It depends. I have a five year old Dual Motor (Performance) Tesla and I thoroughly enjoy it. It has been trouble free, is a joy to drive, and it is fast as a bat out of hell. Battery life is still good. I plan to drive it until the batteries wear out or the wheels fall off. I'm not saving the planet, I'm just a technically oriented guy enjoying a great machine. I have other vehicles including a 24 year old 3/4 ton 4WD Suburban and an LX570 (Land Cruiser) on the big end, and a BMW 325 stick convertible on the small end. I love them all, and they all have their faults. Will my Tesla stay on the road as long as the Suburban and the Lexus? Probably not. Can I go off road or haul a cattle trailer with the Tesla? Only once. Is Elon Musk just looking after Elon? Absolutely. Will my Tesla die sooner than I would like? Yes, but probably, so will I. Point is, enjoy life and don't over worry these things. If you need an absolutely reliable car to get to work and can't afford more than one car, go buy the best Toyota sedan you can afford because while the Tesla would probably work very well in that role, if it breaks you don't want it to be your only car. Thanks Scotty, we love you, but you and I are both too old to get wound up about this stuff.

    As a former long time resident and annual visitor, my take on Japan's zero population growth is due to Japans business practices concerning workers. The Japanese office worker is a slave to the company he works for...going in early and never leaving until his immediate boss decides to leave....Six to seven days a week. On top of that, the worker must accompany his bosses and fellow office peers to long stints at bars and restaurants after work.
    • Hence, the average worker has no time to ever develop a meaning relationship with the other sex. They barely make enough money to take time off or have the energy to do much of anything else. A boyfriend or girlfriend is a luxury, that most younger Japanese don't have time for. So, marriages are down and thus, so are childbirths.
    • Smaller communities, in rural areas, are becoming ghost town towns as the few residents have moved to Tokyo or died. Hundreds of public schools have closed and are now abandoned.
    • Unless Japan changes its business practices and mindsets, Japan's population will decline at an ever increasing rate. For now, Japan has opened up its borders for foreigners to immigrate. BUT, that too has become a problem because most that want to immigrate are the same types nobody wants.

    That Japanese conveyor belt thing makes no sense sense to me… They have some of the best train systems in the world. Someone is trying to say that they can’t just lay down dedicated tracks for the cargo? Even if you need to make it a special gauge or something like that, it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than a single point of failure like a conveyor belt.

    My daughter-in-law has a Model 3. Piece of crap, IMHO. Sure, it's fast and zippy, which is what she likes, but the quality of the interior is not much better than a low-trim level Nissan Versa, the back seat is very low and uncomfortable, and you need to read the manual just to start the stupid thing. But she loves that sort of stuff, like using her iPhone to check the state of charge and be able to see who might have brushed up against it while walking through the supermarket parking lot, etc...

    People will regret not buying Tesla stock once the robo taxi fleet is finally up and running. Also the Optimus Robot will increase the stock price. Yes Elon products take longer than he usually says it will, but 5, 10 years from now. Many people will be able to retire off their Tesla stock if they just hang in there

      At the forefront despite the fact that BYD, NIO etc are reaming Tesla globally. In no small part because their cars are cheaper and have better features. And if you think that comical robot is going to be a big money earner then I have a bridge in Afghanistan to send you. Because clearly you will believe anything. Ever seen Boston Dynamics? Those robots are so far ahead of what Tesla is doing that it's just comedy. There is no forefront there. Only if you deliberately ignore everything that every other robot company is doing so that you can pretend Tesla is somehow leading that field. And the robo taxis? Sure.......will that be about "Hyperloop" success? Go look at what Elmo promised and then go look at what he actually delivered.....a one lane tunnel that has to be driven by a driver at all times. What a joke.....

Kim Java did a great interview with one of the early guys and he said they were all putting in 100+ hours a week including Elon, who really did sleep on his desk. I can sympathize because during research projects I used to sleep on a WWII era slate pool table until I finally upgraded to a folding bed. I love my gas cars but I also have a Tesla model 3. I pay 3 cents a mile for home charging. Superchargers are very similar to the rates of a gallon of gas. The cost of a supercharger just equipment alone probably warrants the higher rates and the locations they are at want some profit as well. I have 5 months of home level 2 charging and I charge overnight. it's under 3 dollars for 100 miles of range.

    My daughter when she came to visit me she rented a Tesla and we went out to do some things and I asked if I could try it drive the car cause I never drove electric test before and yeah it’s damn quick, but it is complicated. You look at the screen, but I don’t like the way the car looks, and I imagine the charging level, I was told it’s about the same price as gas that charge it up. I don’t know that could be online. Who knows I didn’t care too much about those cars, but they were pretty damn quick.
