    Someone loved this car and made it his own, 10years ago noone knew about a 22b, now everyone is a purist, it's good that this car was enjoyed, unlike now being an investment and just being stationary

    I'd keep the GD 6sp and driveline, brembo's but bring the engine and interior/exterior back to original spec . Definitely worth spending the $ to save this beast

      I'm in the same boat. I can give the 6 speed drivetrain a pass. Sure, it's not OEM 22B, but it's better.

      Yes, very much a good option…you could certainly live with it with those mods and it’d still look like a sweet 22B…the scoop, badges and defuser must go!

  • @nzuncovered1845
    @nzuncovered1845 Год назад +2

    All those mods are good except for the bonnet scoop and LED lights. Subaru would have liked the cars to come out with a lot of those mods, but they couldn't because of cost. Subaru were quite a cheap company it was actually impressive they got the WRX into production. They even used Hitachi long nose R160/180 differentials from the '70s because they couldn't afford the new short nose ones like Nissan.

    The updated sump supposedly reduces the amount of oil slosh from G loads in corners, it's narrower down by the oil pickup. The original sump is the same one from every other impreza at the time and is noticeably broader on the bottom. If the owner of any older EJ engined car has any intention of driving the car hard with performance tires, it would be advisable to use the same kind of sump this car has right now (they're really cheap) or a similar aftermarket sump, and upgrade the oil pickup as well to reduce/prevent oil starving an insanely expensive engine. Shout out to Roger Clark Motorsport in the UK for selling brand new 22b bilstein/eibach strut and spring assemblies for like 5000 UK, pretty great for anyone doing a restoration or a replica build.

    Some of the mods are tasteful like a bomb proof sti 6 speed and rear diff. The tires being missed matched is a BIG no-no, Subarus in general must have all 4 of the same tire cause center diff. Change the tires and I could be happy with the mods. Seems like alot of work to turn to car backwards in terms of performance. Just let it B

    A lot of these mods would be fine on OEM+ or JDM retro period correct modded car but only if it was a standard WRX or STI or maybe a Spec C or something not super limited. I agree on a 22B given their current prices in OEM or restored condition it would be crazy to leave these mods on unless money wasn't an object and the car was just for pure owner enjoyment rather than an investment which sadly I imagine most 22Bs now are investments.

    • @wrxcult8266
      @wrxcult8266  Год назад +1

      Yes, my Version 6 coupe has similar mods and it works…in Japan, the 22B was just another low qty special release and many owners modified as that was the done thing amongst many…the engine & suspension mods you could live with but the GD scoop, boot badges and interior accessories have to go…😎👊🏼

    Could cry at the bastardisation the previous owner did - what where they thinking!?!?! Clearly wanted a 22B as a 'base' but no appreciation of what they actually had to start with in terms of accuracy let alone the history, nostalgia and rarity........

      Yo the 22B is my dream car, but clearly Hiroshi knew what he was doing. STI 6-spd with DCCD, Brembos on light-weight knuckles, bigger intercooler intake, normal turbo, turbo heatshield, earth grounding kit, aero kit for the underside could do with a modern upgrade, but that's really the nicest 22B. I hope the new owner doesn't regret it, and if Tanaka ever watches this video I hope he doesn't get offended. This was the most authentic Japanese 22B ever. I bet it even came with weeb sht in the CD player.

      @@cannaroe1213 so good to hear your view…once a 22 is modded, it kinda gives it license to mod more or at least improve the mods…the value would be increased with OEM path but I could live with, and enjoy, minus the scoop, badges, defuser…and LED lights!
      My own 22 no mods except a APEXi digital tacho & Kenwood head unit, which I kept. The original exhaust was rusted so had to change..I went a HKS! Oh no…I broke the OEM rule but good luck finding one. Cheers

    How is it conceivable that this modified 22B still commands such a high price when there's almost nothing original left about it, what's the rationale for owning it?

    • @wrxcult8266
      @wrxcult8266  Год назад +1

      Good question…although many parts have been modified to aftermarket, it still remains a 22B…still has body, engine, wheels, interior. The sale price for this car was actually quite low so it reflected the condition/ mods. Most, if not all, of the mods can be reversed to OEM spec. The new owner has commissioned Flat Four to bring it back to original as possible….which reminds me…an update vid is in order! Will be great to see the transformation.
