It must be said that you are producing some of the tightest, most informed, and entertaining car reviews out there. And this is one of your best. I’m looking forward to getting my outback wilderness later this year.
I’m at the dealership right now, waiting to purchase my first Outback. Thanks for a great video. I can’t wait to take her out to explore the roads less traveled.
You are one of the best RUclips reviewers out there. Great work Tyler. Love love love my Outback! Looking forward to the 2025 model and maybe a turbo hybrid with Toyota hybrid technology. Power and better mileage
i just bought a 2024 Subaru OBW in Geyser Blue back in mid-July. I have a little over 3k on this vehicle (ain't this isn't my daily vehicle either). I love everything about it. People complain about the touch screen, but in my other vehicle I have an aftermarket pioneer touchscreen display that is slower than molasses so this is 10x better lol. The vehicle handles great! Only downside is that the closest Subaru Dealership around my location is 1.5 hrs away... I have been on fire trails etc. because I mountain bike and needed a better vehicle to help me get places. Great vehicle overall, I can't stop admiring my vehicle whenever I see it sitting in my driveway lol
Thank you for this review. I didn't know the Wilderness was so well equipped. I actually decided to go with a honda passport trailsport. Not any more. 😮👍🏾
Great review, I just subbed! I own a '22 Outback Wilderness and I love it. Negatives are that the fuel economy sucks and no heated steering wheeling like the one on this latest refresh. Good point on the tires being a mild off-roader. For new owners, It is 3 peak snow flake rated but don't confusion with a performance of an actual snow tire, it's just a better, a little more capable all season in the snow but very fun.
Made up my mind, that I really wanted a 4X4 truck but then realized I don't have use of a truck's bed. So then I was thinking of getting myself a 4runner TRD PRO but I just can't stomach paying the ridiculous amount of markup fees Toyota dealers rape I mean add to their loyalist customers seeking these vehicles. And so this leads me to the Outback Wilderness, it's a great commuter, it is capable enough to go off-road (not rock climbing) and discover awesome campsites, and it's family-friendly, and you won't brake the bank. What more can I ask for?
Toyo dealers are bad! Since 2017 I had a 17 BRZ a 18 base Crosstrek a 20 base WRX a 23 Crosstrek limited and a 24 Crosstrek Wilderness currently and all I can say is there's not any drama in a Subaru dealer.
I just traded in my 2019 Jeep Wrangler for this vehicle and I have to say the on-road comfort in safety features and technology that's in this vehicle is very impressive coming from a Jeep. Its def not as off road capable but is no slouch off road either!
Outstanding video presentation, all of the relevant information in a 12 minute video. I always felt that if Subaru could get quality control dialed in and actively address common issues with real solutions, they could dominate the smaller SUV market. It also doesn't help that Subaru dealers seem to be, at least in northern Indiana, only concentrated in large cities which is far and few in between. With that being said, it doesn't seem to detract buyers as there are a ton of Subaru Outbacks cruising around here.
I have a 2024 Outback Wilderness (in silver) and this is a very accurate video. So far I really like the car. It feels solid, good quality, the seats are really supportive and comfortable. (Not as solid and as good a driving position as my 2012 Volvo XC60 though). There’s no wireless charger in my outback wilderness but that’s fine…Subaru has had issues with wireless chargers anyway. Sound system is great but if I turn up the volume I feel too much “door speaker” vibration on my left arm. You only feel the turbo kick-in if you have a straightaway where you can really accelerate. Otherwise, it doesn’t feel like a powerful car but I know it’s very capable when I need it to be. The slight acceleration lag that’s described in the video is real. The auto start-stop function when idling is annoying because the restart of the engine is not quiet enough and actually shakes the car a bit each time the engine turns back on. So I turn off that feature at the start of every trip. It corners and takes curves well. It takes-on road bumps and other road irregularities very well. Smooth and very comfortable ride. Good looking in an odd and quirky way, but I think they really could improve. The overall styling of the exterior would maybe not so much plastic cladding everywhere which I’m not sure how that’s gonna hold up over time.
i choose the 2024 OBW over Rav4, Jeep's..you get more features for the price, very comfortable drive, can tow, can modify, versatile vehicle, ill even sleep in it.
After test driving one of these, i loved it. The only thing that changed my mind was the fuel economy. Ended up getting a Forester Wilderness. I'd take an owb in a second if i didn't have to put 87 or higher octane in it.
I’ve daily driven a loaner Touring XT for 3 months and now own an OBW. The OBW feels and drives muuuch better in all aspects except bodyroll. OBW feels more like a proper Subaru from pre-2010 overhaul.
I own one of these (in the obligatory hero color of Geyser Blue), and I still found your video interesting and fun to watch. That's a testament to your production chops. And thanks for covering this car for others, in case more people are on the fence about this over, say, a Rav4, 4Runner, or even a Cherokee or Compass Trailhawk editions. The OBW is just a great all-around car, and for a lot less money than even less capable competition.
@@Rxtzero I don't regret it. I had an Autumn Green Outback before this, and while I love the color and would've gladly gotten the Wilderness in it also, my husband is particularly fond of blues in general, so I opted for the Geyser Blue, since I also rather like the color. And, the color is almost a chameleon, as it'll be light blue in some situations, dark blue in others, and even a deep almost teal in still others. I particularly like it when it looks deep teal. I have to admit, though, that it doesn't look quite as grown-up as the green or the other colors, having a much sportier (i.e., youthful) appearance, but of all the colors in which the Wilderness is available, the blue is the only one that's specific to this trim, and surprisingly few people are opting for it, so it will definitely be easier to find in crowded parking lots. :)
@@Rxtzero Here're a couple of pictures I took of mine in light rain shortly after I got it. I couldn't find pictures online that let me see how it would look in such conditions, so I figured I'd take my own to share, in case it further helps folks decide how or even if they like the Geyser Blue. :) drive.google.com/drive/folders/1k2Ik8h0snO6CicdiFWKNiMoYzeej9Jra?usp=drive_link
I have been looking for a replacement for my "89 Volvo Turbo Wagon that gave up the ghost 20 years ago with 285K miles. After a Q45, a Pilot, a CRV and a Merc E350, my test drive today of a Subaru Touring XT confirmed, I found a car that will be around longer than I will!
Fantastic segment. Just subscribed. You have a way of turning over every stone that matters when giving your thoughts and assessments of this vehicle and it's trim level. I don't doubt it can tow 3500lbs. Just wonder at what cost to the life of the CVT doing so does. The Wilderness Adventure Wagon seems well equipped and looks like it too. Thankyou for your time and effort in sharing what you think about this vehicle.
It’s actually more difficult for passengers to step into the outback wilderness then it is to get into my Volvo XC60 SUV. The wilderness entry “threshold” must be higher than the Volvo. So if you have short members in your family, you might want to have them get into the wilderness several times to see if it’s difficult for them.
It easily justifies the price increase but if you don't see yourself really using the extra capability and you're not absolutely in love with the Wilderness character, I'd stick with the Onyx!
I have a '22 Wilderness, I'd say no unless you regularly take it up 25%+ grades on mud/gravel/snow, or regularly take it down fire roads, logging roads, etc. All of which I've done, but I'm certain a regular XT could do almost as well. I'd get an Onyx XT, buy aftermarket skiplates, etc.
Auto start/stop to begin with is put in just for the sake of it across the board. On the other hand, it belongs in hybrids and EV’s and actually works better in electric vehicles.
Get rid of the absolutely terrible infotainment system (seriously, just go back to one that we can actually swap out with aftermarket, please) and offer it with a MANUAL (isn't this supposed to be aimed at the enthusiast crowd?), and I would be one of the first through the door to buy one. Oh, and the safety systems are shite too, so it would be great if they were an option (best case) or could just be turned off. Sadly I don't see Subi going that direction. RIP Subi, RIP.
Generally, no, but for an off-road capable family suv, it's much cheaper than a similarly equipped Toyota 4runner, Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler or Grand Cherokee, i'd say so, and you can get a wilderness spec that's less than 43k.
If you want a midsized wagon that’s pretending to be a suv, this is the only vehicle available. When you get to the pricing of the wilderness, you’re better off buying a cx90 for car like handling or 4Runner if you want truck like off-roading.
Respectfully, I think you're missing the big idea of the Outback wilderness. The CX-90 is monstrous compared to the Outback, I see the upcoming CX-70 having the potential to beat up the outback but the Wilderness is its own breed (mazda doesn't offer anything capable off-road like it). 4Runner is notably more expensive when equipped similarly and handles like a drunken manatee compared to the wilderness. Undoubtedly the Toyota is more capable and should last longer but the Outback Wilderness is still... A CAR. It's a sensible wagon that gives you most of the capability of proper off-road suv without the gas mileage, bloated size and clumsy handling. As goofy as it is, she has a purpose.
Silly? yes. Capable, Definitely! Cosplay is a good (and comical) way to describe some stuff on the market but the Subarus are really about it (as over-styled as they may seem). If you don't need the extra stuff, the Onyx XT exists too so I'm glad Subaru had fun with the wilderness models.
It must be said that you are producing some of the tightest, most informed, and entertaining car reviews out there. And this is one of your best. I’m looking forward to getting my outback wilderness later this year.
Thank you, I've been trying to make things more concise. Congratulations!
outstanding camera work, commentary and humour as usual.....very well done. Absolutely top notch review once again.
I’m at the dealership right now, waiting to purchase my first Outback. Thanks for a great video. I can’t wait to take her out to explore the roads less traveled.
I go this exact model last month and have already 1450 miles on it. I LOVE it
You are one of the best RUclips reviewers out there. Great work Tyler.
Love love love my Outback! Looking forward to the 2025 model and maybe a turbo hybrid with Toyota hybrid technology. Power and better mileage
I'm considering ditching my '22 Wilderness for a Tesla due to the poor fuel economy. I'd definitely take a plugin hybrid Outback though!

I feel exactly the same i bought my geyser blue crosstrek to replace my jeep wrangler i sold to buy the Crosstrek
I am a fan of the Wilderness models and own the forester Wilderness. Wish it still had the 6 speed manual though.
Thank you for this review. I didn't know the Wilderness was so well equipped. I actually decided to go with a honda passport trailsport. Not any more. 😮👍🏾
I was waiting for this review to drop for days 👏👏👏
My dad had StarTex interior in his 1972 Opel GT, but back then it was called Vinyl
The north face outlet store parking lot won't know what hit it.
Another great review... thanks. Love my 2023 Outback Wilderness... but at 11k miles... Subaru still hasn't fixed my eye-sight system.
Great video. I’m a dad that wants to bike camp and hit some trails off roading so this lines up
The light salt at end was hilarious & genuine.
Thanks 🙃

Is it weird that I think the Outback looks kinda good like this…? Great review!
The extra cladding gives you a 2 tone effect. It was a sad day when car manufacturers dropped offering2 tone paint schemes.
I love mine. I think it's sleek. Especially in the dark gray

I just bought one 2 months ago over the Toyota 4runner TRD, and I am extremely pleased with it. New Subaru fan, for life!
Pick mine up today in the magnetite gray
just bought a 2024. While I liked my '16 Outback tan leather better, initially the startex is growing on me. All these other observations are spot on.
Loved seeing AMC Eagles when I was a kid…..this is a cool modern version. Though I have a feeling it would look better in more muted colors.

interested in purchasing an outback wilderness. I love that blue and green.

A good comparison to this would be the Mazda CX-50 Turbo Meridian edition. I would love to see that.

Imagine a Crosstrek Wilderness with this engine/trans combo! That would be sweet , Subaru make it happen

It's beautiful ❤
Getting a 24’ in about 3-4 months… going to extreme pimpin’ it out to blow away other grocery getters😁
If only they’d go back to the traditional transmission instead of the CVT.
Thank you‼️
It’s not a bargain off-road wagon. It is the ONLY off-road wagon 😂
Can they make one with a radio/ CD player in the dash, instead of that big stupid tv screen?
I want buttons and switches and knobs…
Great video! So, for the money would you say the Wilderness is worth paying a little more over an Onyx XT?
It easily justifies the price increase but if you don't see yourself really using the extra capability and you're not absolutely in love with the Wilderness character, I'd stick with the Onyx!
The extra torque may be worth it for difficult terrain with the turbo

hope they solve the battery issue this time... Subaru is notorious for killing batteries
Menu and infotainment system is infuriating. 😡
Fuel economy is terrible ⛽️
Can’t wait for the Toyota hybrid motor and the all new 2025 redesign 😊
Bloomington, heck you are only a 2 hour drive from where that outback is built.
What is the cons. Something sounds to good, you gotta question!
Boyscout on a Patagonia spending spree loll
Auto start/stop to begin with is put in just for the sake of it across the board. On the other hand, it belongs in hybrids and EV’s and actually works better in electric vehicles.
got an auto start eliminator, no more start stop even after restarting the engine
Is the display flickering or is that a camera-read response?
Camera shutter speed!
Wife and i are considering a subaru. We know nothing about them. Just starting research.
i wish this was bargain vehicle here in europe, its 70k here in europe
CVT drone at full throttle is tragic
Seems like they ditched the fake “gears” though. Huge improvement
did they fix the windshield cracking for 2024??????
Not that I'm aware of, unless subaru says they addressed it, we will probably have to wait a couple years to see if reports have dropped off.
Subaru Outback alway oil pan leaking problem
Are the tires noisy?
A little more than the standard ones but it’s not too noticeable!
The non wilderness outback could use less plastic cladding.
1/6 xD Fun ride times

2024 outback wilderness vs rav4 hybrid woodlands edition(canada)..... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I wonder how many of the wilderness trims they sell? Another Subaru to clog the fast lane driving 10 MPH below the posted limit 😂
Quite a few, I regularly see the OBW at dealers! How drivers use them is outside of my jurisdiction 🥴
Stereotype much? 😊
Subaru needs a new infotainment system. It’s way too slow and ugly
I like Subarus but these Wilderness trims are just so silly. Like big bad off-roading cosplay.
