American really is the worst. I flew from L.A. To Minnesota and was told by a woman with a bad attitude at the gate that I would have to check my carry-on because the overhead compartments were full. I complied, but when I got on the plane I noticed that most of the overhead bins had plenty of available space for carry-ons. Then, of course, when I got off the plane and claimed my bag, one of the wheels on my NEW roller bag had been broken by the gorillas at the airport.
I never comment on videos, but something about this one fueled my fire 😂 just with that first flight, it was on a CRJ200 which has tiny overhead bins that can’t accommodate anyone’s carry-on sized bags. Also booking a 30 minute layover in ORD is insane. Idk, it just seems like some of these issues are more of a result of poor planning, rather than problems on AA’s part. Also that first flight was operated by Air Wisconsin, so it’s also not really fair to put it in an AA video. Idk, just some observations 🤷🏼♂️
Excellent points. Anyone who's traveled more than just casually knows not to book such a tight connection. AND not to book a THIRD flight all on the same day.
Good point about the first flight. Delta Connection, American Eagle, etc are not operated by the big name airline, they are all operated by smaller companies, Air Wisconsin, Republic, etc.
Eric, I know why the American Airline’s jet is so loud, it’s because jets can get into very high speeds like 950km, so when it reaches that speed, it will get very loud
I enjoyed your video, but you are flying in the middle of winter and there are a lot of delays caused by the weather. I am a Gold level status member on AA and yes, I have been on delayed flights too and missed a few. They did put you up for the night. You should have bought travel insurance. If you have a delay over 4 hours, they pay you back the price of your ticket and any out of pocket expenses. AA is no different then Delta, Air Canada, United, or any other airline. Shit happens. You just have to deal with it. The 787 that you flew on to NZ, they are not a nice as the A350.
Eric I wanted to say thank you for your awesome airline reviews. Your videos are super cool! You work really hard to make them great and it really pays off. I love how you show us what it’s like to fly with lots of different airlines everywhere! It’s like going on a bid adventure with you! From your biggest fan
A seasoned traveler would have booked morning flights, much less chance of delays. People want cheap fares and first class service and comfort - there's no such thing. Flying AA is no better or worse than any other airline. This guy was just looking for things to whine about.
So... you got me to watch the entire video due to the title. Absolutely nothing awful at all as it pertains to American Airlines. The first flight (the "it was so loud" plane) was on a CRJ (Canadian plane) which likely was flown by SkyWest or Air Wisconsin. That plane has likely rotated between UA and AA over the years. So.... nothing about it making AA "more awful" than what you would have had on UA or DL. Your Chicago issue was weather related. I can guarantee United and Delta were having the same issues at ORD at that time. As for seat pitch... you paid for economy. You're going to get anywhere from 30 to 32 inches of pitch on UA, DL or AA. And... they all use those same slimline seats. And the bathroom on the (I presume) 737 is just as small as what you'll get on UA and DL. Why didn't you spend a little more and at least get one of the Main Cabin Extra seats? You've got more legroom there. Finally... it is never a good idea to do THREE flights in one day with the last one being an intercontinental flight. It's always a good idea to give yourself a one day buffer before that intercontinental flight. Lesson learned I hope. Oh, and your LAX hotel - that Sheraton is a very nice hotel. If AA wanted to treat you in a truly awful manner, they would have put you up in the La Quinta across from the Westin a little further down the street. One final thing, just for reference: DL came in best for on time performance in 2023 at 84%, AA came in at #3 at 80%. The worst? Air Canada at 63%.
You really cannot blame American as a bad airline. I mean yes I once thought this airline sucked, but after flying with them for over 5 years and around twice a year you cannot blame them. The lack of delays is for our own safety, and sometimes its not our fault. I once flew Jetblue and we got stuck in Boston sitting in the plane for 4 hours after another 3 hour delay at the gate. Stuff like this isnt the airline, but it is extremely frustrating.
I went on an American Airlines 737 over the summer of 2023, and it definately was not bad at all. Especially since I am very tiny, i had a lot of room. Overall, it was a nice experience, i didn't miss any flights, and it was all good. The flight attendants were nice aswell.
Dude idk why people think American airlines is so bad I've flown them lots of times and every time I've flown them I've had a good flight and experience
As a former airline employee he does have a clue as to 0:15 the worse flight ever. Yes there were some operational issues but they did take care of him. Yes legroom is an issue in any aircraft of most US carriers. You need to buy those seats that have more space. The bottom line he arrived SAFELY to his planned destination. The hiccups he experienced certainly do not make AA or any airline the WORSE EVER. Not a fair assessment. When he said his LAX-SYD was his longest flight then my impression he’s no travel expert.
Alright, here’s my AA story: I was going to Lima Peru to visit family about 2 years ago and it is a 8-10 hour flight from New York and I don’t remember what plane we were on but it had a 3x3x3 seat configuration. When we got on, the plane was delayed 30 minutes, dirty, and on a about 8 hour flight had no flight entertainment and only had entertainment through their website which barely worked. Once they gave us dinner all they had was very cold bread with egg and nothing else, which they just tossed around. A lot of other Peruvians were on the flight and I remember one family was complaining since the service was terrible. Once that flight was over, my family decided to never fly American ever again
yay new video. Also, in defense of American Airlines, the crj200 that you were on was first meant to be a private jet but then airlines wanted it as a regional jet after it was produced so they had to quickly put seats in it and hand it off to airlines.
@@EnderfanwalmartripoffsIt’s a regional flight operated by a different carrier contracted by American Airlines with their branding. It’s not actually an AA crew and pilots operating the plane.
Great trip report! I think part of the problem with your connections is related to the airline booking websites. In many cases these show almost impossibly short connections. For example 1 hr 30 when a domestic terminal is at least a 10 minute walk to international. Then you have to go through security and get to your gate. If there are any delays you'll miss your flight or your checked bag might not make it. I don't fly very often but I always prefer direct flights or a connection of 3 plus hours.
I fly American Airlines almost every time. I’m an AAdvantage member. Like 95% of the flights I’ve been on are on time and the planes are fairly clean. Besides the jet, almost every plane had in flight entertainment on the seats, but most planes don’t have it anymore after Covid.
American will NEVER tell you why they are delayed. They don't think you deserve to know. And most of the time, the staff is incredibly rude, and they really do treat you like cattle. The last time I flew American was eight years ago. I'm in a wheelchair, but they flung me around like a piece of luggage.. I've never flown them again. When I travel anywhere, no matter how long the trip, I fly Delta. They have the most comfortable seats, the nicest flight crew, and they have the best on-time flights out of any other airline, You've flown with the worst, now fly the best!
I’m not a native speaker and I just moved to the us several months before. I’m so grateful to listening Eric’s videos that my listening ability has been improved a lot 😊😊😊!!! And I used to be a flight attendant before, u make me back many memories ❤
You gave yourself a short connection at ORD, knowing that you have an international connection? That part of this is your fault, due to poor planning. You should have flown into LAX the day before. Then you're not having to bet that everything goes perfectly for you. If you were to drive from Toronto to Chicago to Los Angeles, could you guarantee an arrival time, in LA, +/- 1 hour? Too many things can go wrong in the real world. In the airline world this means weather(delays + holding), mechanicals, personnel issues, computer systems malfunctions, passengers getting ill (inflight) causing diversions, etc.
We caught a connecting flight from to Montreal to Halifax in late December one year, with Air Canada. Holdup was due to the entire contents of the water truck freezing solid. Don't get that in Australia, but it sure was educational for us. Minus 10, then wind chill on top.
My question was why didn't he use Star Alliance carriers. Both UA and AC fly nonstop from Toronto to either LAX or SFO, and then connect to Air New Zealand to Auckland, or, even better, just take UA all the way through, via SFO or LAX and eliminate ORD altogether. I thought maybe he had status on AA but I doubt it since he was stuck in the back of the plane. Maybe the price differential was substantial.
Flight #1 - American Eagle (Air Wisconsin)(AA 6086)(Last scheduled flight was on 4 March 2024) Aircraft: (Bombardier or Mitsubishi) CRJ-200LR Powered by: Two GE CF34-3B1 engines Flight #2 - American Airlines [AA 2014 (I think)] Aircraft: Boeing 737-823 Powered by: Two CFM56-7B24 engines Economy Class seats are the Collins Meridian seat. Flight #3 - American Airlines [AA 83 (I think)](Last scheduled flight to Auckland was on 1 March 2024, due to being Seasonal) Aircraft: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Powered by: Two GEnx-1B74/75 engines Economy Class seats are the Safran 5751 slimline seat.
I tried American last December from LAX to HND, where I picked the last roll of the B787. Although it was very noisy and crowded, they had unexpectedly large seat room + 2 seats at the last few rolls. Overall the crews were awesome!! I would give a try with American next time!
Honestly American is more of a crap shoot than others in my opinion. You can get good ones or bad ones. As for the no IFE screens, IIRC, only Delta and JetBlue (and maybe others) have IFE screens/TVs. The other US-based airlines removed them.
Right. If you must fly in economy and you're planning a leisure trip, book as far in advance as possible and take a look at the seat map. Those last rows with the 2 seats across instead of 3 seats across make a big difference.
Don’t get me wrong. But it seems that when someone comes with biased opinions and expects the worse, it’s exactly what he gets. And, a little bit of advice from a former AA employee: program your flights with not-so-tight connections. Things like the one you went through might come often, so, try to schedule your flights in advance so you can get the better schedules with more ample connecting times.
That's not so easy if you book flights though a third party. I booked flights a year ago to fly to Dallas from the UK to see the eclipse this year. Instead of direct flights that weren't available, I was booked London Heathrow to Dallas via Frankfurt with Lufthansa. Only about an hour to catch the connecting flight. Back via Toronto with Air Canada. Thankfully, I made all the flights with little hassle but I was not happy about it initially.
@@andyhinds542Well, that’s why, as an experienced former employee at American (undoubtedly my best times in my productive life. I spent 15 years there), I strongly suggest to go directly with the airline rather than travel agents or booking sites. Trust me, if you go with the airline directly, you’ll get the right stuff with no hidden tricks.
AA is the worst. You speaking from a employee point of view, not a paying customer. Of course you look at it differently as they take care of their employees. Tell me how good they are once you've been left stranded with a child in a airport for 3 days.
@@thefitnesslife4988 all I can say is that the poster came with a biased attitude, and he attracted the “bad vibe”. If you go without having preconceived thoughts, your experience will be basically as it happens. Man, you shouldnt be taking the horrible airlines every time so we know if we should use it every time. You deserve business class flights. I hope your channel can grow more, your really one of the greatest youtuber ever!
I flew on American recently and my flight got delayed for 8+ hours. All we got in compensation was a $10 meal voucher. It was barely enough for a coffee.
This was a very well made video, I've also been to New Zeeland but I departed from Dubai and the flight lasted for 16 hours, so I understand the feeling of seeing the beautiful land at the ariving😂
Bro I hate to break it to you but you just have terrible luck with these airlines. I’ve been going on American forever and they have been amazing great seats great service and no delays and everyone that I’ve met said that this was a great airline.
The technology has been with us for over 75 years. What do you think takes your bank deposit in a split second to the teller in the bank drive through?
I believe you set this up to be a bad flight. You scheduled very short connections which is unreasonable, especially when you're connecting twice. Your choice of departure time from your original city was not the smartest move. You should have scheduled an early flight out of Toronto and planned on a long layover in Los Angeles. Early morning flights have less chance of delays. What you did made for a frustrating experience, but again I believe you designed it that way. Clearly, you are not well-traveled and should not be considered a reliable source for reviewing an airline. A final note...my airline of choice is United...I do not work for American.
Ive been Executive Platinum for years on American and was CK for two years. I must be incredibly blessed. because I've had really good experiences on AA. I've flown all over Asia, Australia, and New Zealand on multiple airlines. I've always looked forward to traveling first class to those places. I only flew once in coach internationally and wouldn't do it again unless absolutely forced to. Some advice though... when flying international expect your connecting flights to be delayed. give yourself plenty of time, dress in layers , it can get cold. Take your own water, and buy after security. Take Noise cancelling head phones. if you can ...have a layover in Hawaii!
If you want a heavy snack, you have to buy it on US domestic carriers. I have flown American several times to the Caribbean with no delays, poor service or delays.
This year I’m flying American to LaGuardia and to RSW I don’t know why they say people say they’re bad. I’ve had a great time with American. The crew on board are unreal alert super nice.
Come on, seriously? I sense a new human with very little life experience if any. I am a picky sob and I’ve flown American for decades. Over the last 2 years, it still is decent service and equipment, better than nearly all other US based airlines.
Complete agree. Not only did this silly little whiner did not enumerate anything specifically about AA, he demonstrates a frighteningly low life experience. He is a great example of a little charter member of the entitled snowflake generation. “It’s so cold…I had to walk to the other side of the airport…the seat was so uncomfortable”. Boo-hoo -hoo. I am a sixty-six year old whose father filed for Eastern Airlines (a great airline before Frank Bormann and ALPA ran it into the ground). I have flown a lot. Flying has changed along with the rest of the world. I have always flown Delta, never American and I’m pretty sure this is true across the board. 🎉it is no longer the luxury it used to be. BTW, just a little hint; when making a connection, check your bag(s) to your final destination. It usually costs less than the price of a decent hotel and saves you the aggregation of dragging your two weeks of vacay clothes down from the overhead bins while the rest of us wait at the gate.
First flight is actually american eagle and he should have clarified that. The service in main cabin/coach is pretty standard. Carry on gate check on those planes are standard. They did explain the problem and excessive cold weather causes problems
Parents : Do you want to take American, United or Delta. Me : How much do they cost? Parents : United is 1,000, Delta is 1,300, and American is 900. Me : Okay. United. Parents : Why? Me : This video explains why.
I think your video was over the top. American Airlines has one of the newest fleets in the United States, and I have always found their service to be impeccable. I think you’re doing a hatchet job just to attract more viewers
I totally disagree.. 5 flights cancelled, ✈️ the plane that we were taken off of no outlets worked, sat there for 4 hours before they deborded us. No flights to my destination. Had to leave sfo to go to s.j. No food voucher, no offer to pay my transportation. This has been terrible experience for me as well.
You deliberately created this drama in order to make a sensationalist video and portray the airline in the worst possible light. No sensible traveler would ever try and cut their connecting flights that close when flying internationally. Anyone who flies on short-haul aircraft also is aware that checking your baggage at the plane is a standard practice and would include the incipient delay into their planning. Regardless of whether AA has issues, you assured failure, not the airline.
I enjoyed your video and thought that it was very well done. I primarily fly American and, for the most part, have not had any crazy experiences. I think it's inherent for delays on all airlines and, with turnaround times for planes, there is also inherent issues of cleanliness. But, if I had to pick between a less-than-clean plane and a shorter (overall) flight experience, I'm gonna pick the shorter experience. One commenter before me made a very valid point as well. You booked flights extremely close together. The initial 30 minute delay is not unusual or uncommon for any airline. When I fly, I always look at layover times to ensure that I'm not setting myself up for missing a flight. And lastly, with regard to the noise level on that initial flight, that is also inherent of planes that size. Overall, watching your video, I felt like your experience wasn't crazy out-of-the-ordinary other than the issue with the "the plane wasn't supposed to fly again and didn't have enough fuel". I'd say that was American's biggest faux pas here. I hope you enjoyed your trip and that the flights back were "better". I do have to give a shout out to Air France though - of all my airline experiences, both of my trips to Paris were on Air France and I thought they were pretty amazing.
I haven't flown American for years! Horrible experience with the flight Attendants and them of accusing me of disturbing passangers when I was just sitting there and playing a game. I had my headphones in too and by the way we were already in the air! Another year I needed to use a Wheelchair because of an injured leg and I felt like I was being treated like livestock. And they will NEVER say why it is delayed. I flew with them since I was a baby but switched to Delta about 18 years ago and haven't looked back sense. I've barely had any Horrible experience, seats are comfy (especially Comfort+ and on 737 and up), variety of snacks and beverage choices, and amazing crew. After Delta I'll only fly Southwest, United, and JetBlue.
As a person who has traveled for 28 years since birth…This is what I encounter all the time. Westjet is notorious for no in flight entertainment, unless it’s a super long flight and then you pay for the movie or something. Air Canada however on their long flights, have entertainment for free if I remember correctly (Haven’t flown with them in a while as they are more expensive) But I have gaming devices and a phone with pre downloaded stuff so I don’t get bored usually. If it’s in the night I do try and nod off and the attendants don’t bother you for a snack or drinks, if they see you asleep. Of course I try to stay awake for it cuz, I’m thirsty and want a snack lol. But overall Westjet is cheaper, service minimum. Hence cheaper.
I fly on american when i go to PHX. I have not had a delayed airplane with them, and an amazing customer experience. Last flight i had, it was 30 minutes early on arrival.

I once dealt with an 8 hour delay at Dallas to Jackson Hole with American Airlines. Next year in Denver, an American Airlines flight to Dallas was cancelled because it was too hot.
The worst airliner in America has to go to Frontier and Spirit Airlines. Any ultra-low-cost carrier would expect to have the absolute worst service on a flight. Also, at the least, Southwest has been taking a nose dive recently with their planes suddenly dropping attitude and widespread disruption of glitches of the crews scheduling and winter weather patterns canceled over 16,000 flights.

A seasoned traveler would have booked morning flights, much less chance of delays. People want cheap fares and first class service and comfort - there's no such thing. Flying AA is no better or worse than any other airline. This guy was just looking for things to whine about.
Yep, always fy early in the morning, more slack is available to make up for delays.
To be fair who wouldn’t want cheaper fares
Right. Shame of a human being.
So... you got me to watch the entire video due to the title. The worst? Air Canada at 63%.
agree totally and have stayed at that Sheraton.
Fr me and my mom never had problems with them
I travel extensively for my job and use American 75% of the time. Very rarely do I experience any issues. Can't say the same for the other 25%.

American Airlines is the best😊
same with ryanair, i have travelled on them 3 times, they were fine
As a former airline employee he does have a clue as to 0:15 the worse flight ever. Yes there were some operational issues but they did take care of him. Yes legroom is an issue in any aircraft of most US carriers. You need to buy those seats that have more space. The bottom line he arrived SAFELY to his planned destination. The hiccups he experienced certainly do not make AA or any airline the WORSE EVER. Not a fair assessment. When he said his LAX-SYD was his longest flight then my impression he’s no travel expert.

Alright, here’s my AA story:
I was going to Lima Peru to visit family about 2 years ago and it is a 8-10 hour flight from New York and I don’t remember what plane we were on but it had a 3x3x3 seat configuration.

Plus, American Airlines doesn’t even operate
Which is also why he had to gate check his bag to Chicago. The CRJ200, as noted, has absolutely zero room for roller boards.

Delta still has in flight entertainment, they will even give you free ear buds.

Agreed. I try to avoid them because the in flight crew is groggy and indifferent. Flat out rude at times.

Let’s appreciate how Eric makes his videos so good about comparing airlines to another. ❤😊

Too bad you had this experience with AA (I clearly stated that I no longer work there and it was a job I cherished and enjoyed for 15 years). I had good experiences as well as bad ones. It’s just life.
@@Walt78 exactly as “paying customers” you don’t see what the employees go through and a lot of the time issues are on them and in his videos he has a mindset of everything bad and that will just attract bad things.

I have flown American many times and I believe eive he is treating them unfairly

They lost my luggage one time, never got it back. American Airlines is so shite mate 😂
