Great video thank you. I picked one up used for 175 Canadian with a hood for my back up 7d and I could not be happier with it. One thing I would add is there is a metal mount that you can swap out the plastic one for on Amazon specifically designed for this lens. But it’s an amazing lens even before that mod.
It’s 2024 and recently purchased my lens. I’m loving my 10-18mm and am realizing how I missed so many great shots not having this super wide angle lens in my kit.
I've watched a number of reviews for this lens and I must say, yours is by far the most thorough! Thank you, I will now go and buy the lens (and save for the cruise!)
Nevertheless, the well articulated and right on the spot review, it's hands down a 10/10 value. Congratulations for your capacity to synthesize and focus on the real values of the product, your narrative skills and the way you added both pictures and videos to highlight the reviewed product. Keep up the excellent work. Useless to mention I clearly subscribe to your channel.
Thanks Darren for your review and giving me some great ideas for vacation videos and stills, never thought of mixing them for final presentation. Never stop learning and sharing.
Checking this out in 2021 from Dominican Republic! (Ohh that "Presidente" shot! 🤣) Looking to get this little guy for daily use and traveling on my SL3.
I have it and i don't like it at all for the reasons i explained before. It you use it at the maximum angles it only does rubbish at the edges. I's is not at all a recomendable one to take good shots with it in wide angle the reason why people buy it, to find out it's garbage.
Thanks for the great video. I would like to ask for your opinion. I've been doing a lot of researches on the 6D and trying to convince myself that the 6D is worth getting. However, I'm not confident enough to spend that much of money for the 6D. Do you highly recommend the 6D or what would you recommend? Any response will be appreciated! thanks
At first you do have to know what is your purposes for buying a camera. Will you use it for traveling, working, or just for experiencing the fun? I am a film student and 6D has a really great color result in my opinion. While my friend use 6D for filmmaking and professional work for a magazine, my other friend prefer 70D and working at the same industry and same as fine. The weight also one of the thing that you have to consider.
Thanks a lot for this review Darren! My search for a great, affordable wide angle lens ends here. I'm gonna use it primarily for photography but you have some mind blowing video footage as well so I'll probably end up using it for both
Excellent review - I was given one of these by my Dad just before I headed off to Alabama (I am UK based). It swallowed up most of the Saturn V at the space and rocket centre in Huntsville and gave me some great sunset beach shots at Gulf Shores. I was curious to find out what was being said about this lens, hence my visit here. Thanks.
My old kit lens started giving me issues so I'll definitely consider this for video recording since my primes don't have IS and I need the wide angle. Great review!
Thanks for this review. I’m definitely thinking of buying this lens for landscape and real estate photography, something I want to get into. This review definitely helped me, I’m now 95.2% sure I’m buying it. Thanks. And if you have any tips, they’re always welcome.
Nice review! Thanks. This can be picked up over here for £180 with a Canon £20 cashback offer, so for £160 this seems like a steal. It's close to a year and a half since it came out, so do you still consider it a good buy, especially at this price, or is there a newer better equivalent?
Great review. I picked one up from eBay in like-new condition for half of its original price. I use it on my Sony A7ii with a Yongnuo EF-E II adapter. It focuses very quickly. I'm loving it.
Great lens for the price but I often find this lens for video work, is always a bit noisy when you're filming anywhere that isn't outside in bright light. Even in a well lit studio at f4/.5, low ISO, still got lots of noise. Nothing that a denoiser can't fix but something people should know!
I have Canon 70D and i wan this lens, at my local store best buy price of this lens is $249.00 i should buy it since it will work really good on Glidecam HD 2000 camera stabilizer and slider.....thanks for good review......
You may have just sold this to me......I am looking to purchase one of these and a canon 7d to compliment my sony nxcam which I used purely for shooting weddings. This is my first step into the world of DSLR, so hoping that this will do well as an all rounder to begin with.
Hello Darren, what is the image quality in comparison with de canon ef 17-40mm f4? It is comparable? I now have de canon 7d mark II, and I use to go hiking with the canon 100-400mm and also take the 17-40 f4 for landscapes. Maybe the 10-18 is a better choice in terms of lightweight, and more range on the wide side. Thank you very much!
After watching this review I am definitely buying this lens tonight! Currently I am using canon T3i and I am thinking about upgrading to the T6s. Should I just upgrade the lens or to the T6s? Thanks and awesome review!!
Awesome! I have been looking for a lens that will be best value for vlogging and potential handheld video usage in confined spaces.. Thanks for your review, I'll be getting one of these ASAP!
Great review Darren and thank you for that. I've just purchased the lens on your recommendation and WOW, what a fantastic lens it is too! For £189, it's most certainly money well spent. Like you say though, it's a shame on the plastic build, but I'm still not complaining about that because the picture quality is absolutely outstanding. So, you get 10/10 for the review and Canon get 10/10 for the lens. Thanks again Darren. All the Best.....
Great review. I watched a few of them on this specific lens. I liked yours the best. I am watching these AFTER I bought the lens. I was browsing on BestBuy and looking at the " store pick up " stock.. Well I searched for a good memory card cause I needed one and stumbled upon this. Needless to say with in an hour it was mine. I couldn't be happier. I know it will be my main lens seeing as I use my camera for shooting lots of cars/realstate, and action sports. People say that its a little dark, but to be honest, I have not even noticed. I dont shoot professionally. A lot of my shooting is done for hobby, and for friends. So I got two lenses for 350$ from BestBuy, it came with the 50mm one as well.. I am not complaining. OH NO I AM NOT. Best 350$ I have spent on camera equipment. My next lens will obviously be a better wide angle. This will do for now.
I used one on an APS-C Sony camera for awhile with a Neewer adapter... It worked flawlessly. AF was darn near as fast as native lenses up to Low speed continuous shutter.. can't beat the price from BB on a lens in this range..
Wow im really impressed with this lens, especially for the price, im definitely gettin this lens next, very sharp image, and i love doing landscape as well, i jus subscribed to your channel keep up the good work
Martino190 - Thank you very much. I've not used that Tammy 28-75, but in general the reviews are pretty good, but I understand the focus motor is a little loud on that lens...
Thanks For The Review, I must say that the Video Quality of this review is Mind Blowing. What kind of a DSLR / Camcordor & What kind of a Lense you used? Thanks for the Review.
This is a great review. I only need a wide-angle about 2-3 times a year, and was thinking of renting one. At this price and quality, probably it's worth buying. Thanks for the info.
f/4.5 - f/5.6 is about as slow as it gets for DSLR lenses. To those who own this lens, do you often end up with crappy, grainy photos? Or have trouble getting enough light for your shot?
Great review as usual Darren! I'm curious if you are planning to review the 80D? This lens (and many more of course, lol) and the 80D are a very interesting combo for me.
Great review Daren. Thx! Great professional video also. It looks a very attractive lens for video. It would have been great to see a hand hold video with and without IS. Is the IS usefull for video or wouldn't you have missed it if it wasn't available on this lens? thx for answering regards olivier
Olivier, Thank you for the kind words, much of the video in the testing section - specifically on the beach, was done hand held - the IS make a difference, but its no substitute for a gimbal device like a Ronin or a camera slider. It's a GREAT deal for the money. Good luck!!
I was going to buy this lens but decided to watch a view reviews first. Here in the U.K. it is relatively inexpensive at £239.99 nearly everywhere, yet for me it’s still a lot of money as I’m unable to work at present due to a number of health issues. After watching reviews I’m unsure if I’d use it enough to justify buying it and with it struggling in low light I’d rather pay more on a lens I’m going to get more use out of.
Its a great review Darren and was really helpful..I was wondering which lens would be better for general purpose like portrait, street photography, landscape etc 1) 15-85 mm IS USM or 2) 18-135 mm IS STM. Could you please suggest any one of them? I am using Canon 1200D
Arnab - you can really go with either, I'm a really big fan of the 15-85, good optics, well built, and 85mm is like 135mm on a full frame, so it'd be nice for portraits. The STM motor in the 18-135 makes it really nice for video.
hi there, really fantastic review on the lens. may i ask you a question? i have a canon 60D with a 18-200mm kit lens and i am considering of getting a wide angle lens. most of my shots for outdoors are scenery and indoors are for family events. i am currently considering between this 10-18mm and the 10-22mm wide angle lens. price is not really a huge matter for this case. can you please recommend which one i should get? Thx in advance!
Outdoors either would be great, they're optically similar, but the 10-22 is built a lot better. Indoors is another story, if your subjects were still, then no issue, but the aperture isn't wide enough on either lens to capture moving subjects indoors without a flash. I might suggest you consider the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 PRO lens - very nice, suffers a bit from Chromatic aberrations, and the focus is a bit buzzy - but the build is excellent and the optics are really, really good! The f/2.8 aperture makes it more suitable for indoor shooting.
+Nir Sharon You'll have to consider a lot of noise in your videos as the variable aperture isn't all that great for low light video shooting and the ISO will necessarily be ramped up by the camera to compensate... To date, the APS-C sensor cameras from Canon aren't the best in low light at high ISOs...
Darren Miles Thanks. i have the canon 70D, and i have to make a video indoor .... can you recommend on a lense that will do the job? i have the 18-55 kit lense now. Thank you for your answer!
I am in the market for a zoom lens. Would you recommend this over the tamron 10-24mm? I read reviews saying the tamron is heavier and very noisy. Thoughts?
Great review, Darren! Stumbled across your channel (glad I did) and I was happy to subscribe! So quick question about the lens. Is there any noticeable distortion? I plan on using this on a few real estate shoots. Will I need to correct (Lens correct, vertical) in Lightroom? Thank you so much, Darren
Jason Jonas Gonzalez there is distortion at 10mm, but barely any at 14 to 18mm, on a crop , this is the least distorted wide angle you can buy without paying $1000+ at 18mm you can't see any distortion whatsoever shoot this at 18mm, f/8 -> no vignetting, no distortion, no CA, very sharp, and you have an L Lens quality lens, no flaring
Adriana K. Jason - Adriana is right, but there's also a lens profile correction for the lens in Lightroom. Thank you for the kind words about the review - I think the lens is a GREAT value!
Hi Darren Miles , Thanks for sharing your experiments. I want to buy CANON 700 D. I'm an Interior Architect & Environment Designer. Living in Turkey. If I want to buy this machine 18-55 lens on it. I want to take photos architectural (exterior) and interior. Is it good for them? Or is it another lens you suggest for? I have $1100 max 1500 (machine and lenses). I need your opinons asap. Thanks...
It’s 2020, just seen this review, liked what I see, lens is now ordered!
Watching in 2019 but still the best review for this lens I have found and for the price you convinced me and will add it to my 80D kit. Thanks!!
Hi bro..how do u feel the performance of Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens, Black
LOL, even later in 2019 and he just sold another one to an 80d owner

I bought this lens yesterday - thanks for a great review Darren, looking forward to using this on my Canon SL2.
Love your reviews and the fact that you include photo samples, videos and rate every aspect of the lens
Thank you!
This is 2019 and I just added this lens to my kit. Your video was very useful and helped me to learn much more about using mine for stills and videos.
Great video thank you. I picked one up used for 175 Canadian with a hood for my back up 7d and I could not be happier with it. One thing I would add is there is a metal mount that you can swap out the plastic one for on Amazon specifically designed for this lens. But it’s an amazing lens even before that mod.
Great review Darren, you made my decision easy, I opted for this lens instead of Canon's 10-22mm
I know I’m not crazy. Who else saw the random spoon at 8:20 🤔.
nailed the air quotes for canon's special sauce on the lens...
Outstanding result......one of the finest wide angle lens.

great review, and thank you for including plenty of video footage from the lens
It’s 2024 and recently purchased my lens. I’m loving my 10-18mm and am realizing how I missed so many great shots not having this super wide angle lens in my kit.

I've watched a number of reviews for this lens and I must say, yours is by far the most thorough! Thank you, I will now go and buy the lens (and save for the cruise!)
Just bought this lens at B&H in NYC and it has outstanding quality!
Nevertheless, the well articulated and right on the spot review, it's hands down a 10/10 value. Congratulations for your capacity to synthesize and focus on the real values of the product, your narrative skills and the way you added both pictures and videos to highlight the reviewed product. Thanks Darren for your review and giving me some great ideas for vacation videos and stills, never thought of mixing them for final presentation. Never stop learning and sharing.
Great review. Went over all the specifics of the overall lens. Thumbs up for you my friend.
Checking this out in 2021 from Dominican Republic! (Ohh that "Presidente" shot! 🤣) Looking to get this little guy for daily use and traveling on my SL3.
Excellent Job.
Learned a lot easily. You made the subject interesting.
Darren Miles is the Best and Most Thorough Reviewer on the Block!
What a kind thing to say, thank you very much!
Always been impressed with this lens. It's made cheaply and that's not a good feeling but for the value and image quality, it can't be beat.
I bought efs 10-18mm by your recommendation. It has good quality and will be my friend. Thank you....
Nice "flair" on 6:37 :) Thanks for the video, I ordered a copy of this lens yesterday.

I ordered this lens, lens hood and ultraviolet filter from Amazon for just $224.00. (09/07/19). Can't wait to get it. THANKS.
So do you like it?
@@Twobarpsi Yes. I use it a lot.
I am 8 years late 😀excellent review and delivery, I am getting mine tomorrow for my R10
I gotta say, your review made me decide to buy this product.
+Andrew Abrigo So glad I could help!
fantastic review..well articulated..is this good for low light indoor video work?
cheers
I have this lens, I use it for my Vlogs on a 60D, it works well and is lighter and way cheaper than the 10-22mm metal mount.
I have it and i don't like it at all for the reasons i explained before. It you use it at the maximum angles it only does rubbish at the edges. I's is not at all a recomendable one to take good shots with it in wide angle the reason why people buy it, to find out it's garbage.
Great selection of photos and videos taken with the lens. Thank you!
by far this review is better than digital rev. well done!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for the great video.

Best review of a lens I've ever seen on youtube. I subscribed.
My old kit lens started giving me issues so I'll definitely consider this for video recording since my primes don't have IS and I need the wide angle. Great review!
This video is very impressive. You talk eloquently. Video quality is nice. Bokeh is beautiful. Bravo
Thanks Jofer!
Best review of anything tech I've seen yet thank you very much
Excellent review for a beginner like me and yes the advice at the end as I'm just starting out in real estate was priceless thank you!

+GalaxinaFan Yes, it's a GREAT buy for the money! Even today!
Just picked up this lens on Amazon for $209 bucks and it came with a sweet little Altura accessory kit too!
Great review. I picked one up from eBay in like-new condition for half of its original price. I use it on my Sony A7ii with a Yongnuo EF-E II adapter. It focuses very quickly. I'm loving it.

Great review Darren. I bought this lens two weeks ago and I absolutely love it.
Thanks Dev - it's a spectacular lens - ESPECIALLY FOR THE MONEY :-)
thats a really nice lens I'm going to buy it right now
I did buy this lens, and it will go with me to Italy next month

I have this lens. Why am I watching a review on it?
an excellent review, as I want to add a W/A lens for my 70D.
Great! Looks like the perfect lens for real estate work. Thanks.
Based on this review I'm buying one used for $130. All original packaging, rated as excellent condition! I consider this a cousin of the Nifty Fifty!
Thank you Mr Darren
After watching this review I am definitely buying this lens tonight!
Currently I am using canon T3i and I am thinking about upgrading to the T6s.
Should I just upgrade the lens or to the T6s?
Thanks and awesome review!!
+Goodlife LifeGood Thank you very much! Enjoy it, stellar value for the money!!!
Awesome! I have been looking for a lens that will be best value for vlogging and potential handheld video usage in confined spaces.. Thanks for your review, I'll be getting one of these ASAP!
Thank you! It's a great lens for the money!!
Super nice fresh review! Congrats!
Paul Burgess Thanks Paul!
Hi Darren, how can you compare this lens to its brother EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 in respect of optical performance?
Wow im really impressed with this lens, especially for the price, im definitely gettin this lens next, very sharp image, and i love doing landscape as well, i jus subscribed to your channel keep up the good work
Amazing review sir. I already own the lens and I have to say the lens is a gem.
+Sinchan Pathak Indeed it is, ESPECIALLY for the money!
Brilliant review! Would you recommend Tamron 28-75 as an affordable walk around lens thanks very much & keep up the good work Darren!
Martino190 - Thank you very much. I've not used that Tammy 28-75, but in general the reviews are pretty good, but I understand the focus motor is a little loud on that lens...
Awesome! Great video! I´ve just decided to buy this little toy cos' of your explanation! Thanks!
+Anna Claudia Magalhães Cool! So glad I could help!
+Darren Miles So did I thank you for such a thorough review
TubeWatcher Thank you very much!
Thanks for the review. Would this lens be good for astrophotography?
Mr Darren, you just made my life easier.
My apologies, I should have added a thankyou for the great review
THE BEST REVIEW EVER !!! Thank you so much for the great review.
libo211 Thank you very much! So glad you liked it!
Thanks For The Review,
I must say that the Video Quality of this review is Mind Blowing. What kind of a DSLR / Camcordor & What kind of a Lense you used?
Thanks for the Review.
How is for milky way and star shots? I haven't seen one review about anyone trying this lens for that.
please help me Darren I่'m choosing between canon10-18 and tokina 11-16 ll which one is better???
This is a great review. I only need a wide-angle about 2-3 times a year, and was thinking of renting one. At this price and quality, probably it's worth buying. Thanks for the info.
+Shane Perera You're welcome and thank you for the kind words!
f/4.5 - f/5.6 is about as slow as it gets for DSLR lenses. To those who own this lens, do you often end up with crappy, grainy photos? Or have trouble getting enough light for your shot?
Is it noisy indoors? Thinking about one of theses lens to make building photography.
Great review as usual Darren!
I'm curious if you are planning to review the 80D? This lens (and many more of course, lol) and the 80D are a very interesting combo for me.
I might - everyone that's tried it loves the AF in live view for video, but sadly no 4K....
Great review Daren. Thx! Great professional video also.
It looks a very attractive lens for video. It would have been great to see a hand hold video with and without IS. Is the IS usefull for video or wouldn't you have missed it if it wasn't available on this lens?
thx for answering
regards
olivier
Olivier,
Thank you for the kind words, much of the video in the testing section - specifically on the beach, was done hand held - the IS make a difference, but its no substitute for a gimbal device like a Ronin or a camera slider.
It's a GREAT deal for the money.
Good luck!!

What kind of camera did you use filming this video? sony a7s ii or what? it's certainly a amazing camera very sharp
I miss you Naples FL!!!

Darren Miles thanks a lot darren ...
That's a nice ass lens for video. It is going to be my next lens.
Ben Bedell did you get the lense
hi there, really fantastic review on the lens. may i ask you a question? i have a canon 60D with a 18-200mm kit lens and i am considering of getting a wide angle lens. most of my shots for outdoors are scenery and indoors are for family events. i am currently considering between this 10-18mm and the 10-22mm wide angle lens. price is not really a huge matter for this case. can you please recommend which one i should get? Outdoors either would be great, they're optically similar, but the 10-22 is built a lot better. Indoors is another story, if your subjects were still, then no issue, but the aperture isn't wide enough on either lens to capture moving subjects indoors without a flash. I might suggest you consider the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 PRO lens - very nice, suffers a bit from Chromatic aberrations, and the focus is a bit buzzy - but the build is excellent and the optics are really, really good! The f/2.8 aperture makes it more suitable for indoor shooting.
Darren Miles
alright, thx !
What material is it made out of again? I didn't catch that part 😂
Thank you so much, will it be a good choice for filming a video indoors as well? What will be the bad things I will have to consider? Thank you !
Jason Jonas Gonzalez there is distortion at 10mm, but barely any at 14 to 18mm, on a crop , this is the least distorted wide angle you can buy without paying $1000+
at 18mm you can't see any distortion whatsoever
shoot this at 18mm, f/8 -> no vignetting, no distortion, no CA, very sharp, and you have an L Lens quality lens, no flaring
Adriana K. Jason - Adriana is right, but there's also a lens profile correction for the lens in Lightroom. Thank you for the kind words about the review - I think the lens is a GREAT value!
Great! Thank you so so much, you two!
Excellent review. Getting one solely based on this presentation. Thank you.
good review I will be getting this lens
Hi Darren Miles ,
Thanks for sharing your experiments.
Thanks...
