    Over the years, gymnastics routines have become very formulaic and even predictable. Most gymnasts perform the same range of skills and the Code of Points doesn't exactly promote diversity and originality.
    Whether it doesn't fit properly in the composition, the actual reward is pretty much non-existent or the likelihood of large deductions is high, the reasons for the lack of variety are diverse.
    In this video, we'll take a look at 5 rare balance beam sideward acrobatic elements.

    Don't know exactly how the code works but maybe they should have one or two elements that you cannot connect. That way you will have more of these hard-to-connect elements come in. Alternatively, If a skill has easy connection potential, maybe that should lower the difficulty of the skill.

    Not that they’d be performed by today’s gymnasts, but it’s cool 25 years after their creation, both the Teza I and Teza II (sideways Yang Bo jump) are still valued E in the 2022-24 code of points. She was really ahead of her time, and I miss the variety we used to see.

    I wish hip circles would come back, they’re cool to watch. I dont really understand the code of points but i’d like to see some bonus insensitive be added on Balance beam for full twisting elements, they’ve become almost extinct

    The current COP emphasizes continuous rhythm in a routine and side elements tend to break it and risk deductions for excessive preparation or general lack of rhythm

    • @esterdrass4964
      @esterdrass4964 Год назад +1

      I can understand that. Looking at some of those moves, they take away the fluidness of the routine. I like a routine that moves gracefully.

    • @_padfoot
      @_padfoot Год назад +1

      I see what you're saying but I don't think this is inherent to side elements. Imagine a nice Y scale or arabesque or hitch kick in releve to precede the sideways stance, then entering the skill... I think these skills are just really hard though, in the way that standing fulls and arabians are hard --- and for those two skills, can we really even envision someone completing them *without* a pause that encumbers a deduction in today's code?

    • @_padfoot
      @_padfoot Год назад +2

      @@esterdrass4964 I think that Chinese gymnasts, who've been demonstrating mastery of each and every Code of Points on this event, are doing a great job, but I am already starting to fatigue of these routines that get to 7.0 difficulty with endless permutations of side aerial, split jump, straddle jump, back handspring, etc, etc... I would love a code that can simultaneously reward that style while also recognizing Kui Yuanyuan-style balance beam with high flying acrobatics. Just a perspective.

      When a gymnast gets severely injured doing a complicated twist,turn,flip,etc that certain flip,twist,turn,or combo gets removed from certain competitions and Olympics. Like punishing the gymnasts that can do that skill or has been doing that skill for years. It’s not other gymnasts fault that 1 gymnast got severely injured yet that 1 gymnast will fight or their loved ones will fight to get that skill removed.

    It's funny Tousek's combo would actually fare well now since they upgraded the hip circle to D. I hope a gymnast tries it eventually.

    • @poshbo
      @poshbo Год назад +4

      Actually no, in the video what you see done after the Tousek is a straddle down with a hip circle and is not considered a separate element connected to the Tousek. The element that's been upgraded to D which you're referring to is likely the Yurchenko Loop, that involves a back salto from the side of the beam ending with a hip circle.

    Posted this on the yurchenko loop video, but I was wondering. Could a gymnast do a Tousek (D) + Tousek (D) + yurchenko loop (D) for 0.5 in connection? (D+D .2 D+D .2 + .1 SB) Would this be a valid combination for CV, and could the gymnast count both the Tousek and Yurchenko Loop for DV?
    Acrobatic elements maybe be repeated twice in the same connection for CV, so I guess the main question is does the yurchenko loop count as the same or different element as the Tousek? They are in the same box (5.405), but the code says elements are considered the same if they are in the same box AND land on one or both feet. The yurchenko loop doesn’t land on the feet.

  • @melissaclark6578
    @melissaclark6578 Год назад

    Yup. All you gotta do now is watch the very first gymnast of each exercise and you have watched them all. Watch first gymnast of floor exercise,hit fast forward to watch first gymnast on beam,tap that fast forward again to watch first gymnast of uneven bars,and lastly one more fast forward to the first gymnast on the vault. Your all done watching every gymnast because they ALL do the same skills just in different routines.

    I didn't care for any of those. They looked a bit awkward. I do remember Natalia Yurchenko performing a back handspring but standing sideways and then wrapped around the beam. I am not sure what the technical name of it would be. I don't recall seeing it again since then. It was done so fluidly.

  • @_padfoot
    @_padfoot Год назад

    Thought 1: I'm in favor of yet another restriction to connections that gets us out of this glut of "front/side aerial split jump backhandspring, etc.". . . Basically, I think if you're only allowed to do rebounding acrobatic connections, the same strictness ought to be true with leaps. There's no way to really rebound from an aerial, so these should basically be nixed. You would still be allowed to do, say, split jump to immediate punch front, or switch leap to switch 1/2, etc. etc.
    Thought 2: Using the word "back handspring" as the primary descriptor for a Teza 1 makes no sense really.
    Thought 3: If Tisha Volleman had a 50/50 shot to make her potential eponymous skill, why the heck didn't she get up and try it again?? Maybe there were team final stakes I'm ignoring or something but just seems like it wouldn't hurt to go for broke to get your skill name.
