    Congrats on you effective healing -- I hope it is still behaving itself after 4 yrs.. It is amazing how many times we encounter an issue that we have never even heard of, and then find out that it is a fairly common problem! I'm in week #4 of splinting and praying that it works for me. Your video has been reassuring as I still have some pain and swelling, which is why I even came to watch this video. In my case, I simply 'snipped' my middle finger to get some of our boxer's (dog) slobber off of my finger -- a movement that I have done a bazillion times in my life with no problem -- then 'pop' and I'm being treated by a hand specialist! I praise God that it is my left hand, as I am right handed -- and a photographer. I can still turn the zoom ring on my lenses, albeit a bit slower and more clumsy. 🙂
    Thanks for sharing your experience.

    Watched your video, injured my middle knuckle, it was bad. I could see my middle tendon go off to the side every time I close and open my fingers. I injured it during a jiujitsu tournament Dec 18, 2021. After watching videos I did similar splint a week later for 6weeks but I extended it to 8weeks. It worked for me. My finger is about 80% back to normal. Slowly strengthening it back to 100%. Thank you for your video (and other RUclips vids) I was able to do it without surgery! Hope this will help others

      @@youssefounaha I would suggest to have it checked with a medical professional first. In my case I bought a malleable aluminum splint from amazon and molded it just like the splint he used on this video and followed what he did. I train jiujitsu and there’s a lot of gripping involved. So far it’s been good. I was taping the fingers together when started training jiujitsu again. Good luck and hope you’ll have a successful recovery!

I tried holding a pen or marker under the finger to keep it elevated and over the rest, but couldn't keep that up for long. Really I just tried to hold the pen or whatever under that finger as much as I could, while not using that hand anymore as much as possible, and eventually, over some months, it started to heal. It still feels a little weird sometimes, but seems healed, and is fully functional (though I try not to push my luck and do anything crazy - it's probably fine now though).

    Hey. Thanks for your videos. They are very good and assuring that the problem has a non-surgical solution. I injured my right hand few days ago at the same spot and condition as yours but it's on the right hand. So far i have met the general practitioner and was given painkillers and swelling medication. Not painful anymore and buddy taping now to prevent the tendon from popping but i can feel it's trying to pop at certain hand position. I'm just hoping to avoid seeing the specialist and wearing the splint. I just had a surgery a month ago and still recovering. I can't afford more downtime from work. Do you think I can buddy tape and the sagittal band can still heal properly?

    • @Textile_Dude
      @Textile_Dude  5 лет назад

      Well I am no doctor so would hesitate to give any answer. If it is still occasionally feeling like its going to pop I would be concerned. Part of the point of the splint is to ensure the affected finger stays away from flexing at the big knuckle. Perhaps you could make your own splint?

  • @jojoply

    My right hand’s third metacarpal’s saggittal band ruptured a couple years ago. Good God, was that painful!!!!! 😩
    It took a couple weeks of several misdiagnoses, antibiotics (UC thought it was cellulitis), casting, and pain meds, to finally see a PT/hand specialist, having a custom brace/splint made, that I wore for 6wks... with a 95%-ish recovery.
    Two days ago, the same thing happened on my left hand (thankfully, not as bad) but- I need to find a good splint/brace.....
    where did you get yours?

    • @Textile_Dude
      @Textile_Dude  4 года назад

      They made it right in the physio clinic. They even took pictures because they had not made one before, It is probably something you could make yourself maybe. The important thing seems to be to make sure your affected finger is in line with the backside of your hand so that the extensor tendon is not sliding off the side of the knuckle. And keep it that way for at least 6 weeks.

    Oh man! I''m so glad I found this video. Thank you so much for posting. I play piano for a living and needless to say I panicked. Everything you explained is exactly what happened to me. I have a question for you. I'm at week three and my knuckle is still swollen and the tendon is not exactly on the top in the middle. Sitting a little to the side of the knuckle but not jumping off. How was this for you? And which point were you willing to bend your finger to see if it was holding? Thanks again!

    • @Textile_Dude
      @Textile_Dude  2 года назад +1

      I can’t remember visually how it looked at week 33. I was super careful and did no bending or testing until the doctor did it in his office at week 6. I was terrified when he pushed down to give resistance and asked me to raise it. I am no doctor but I would suggest patience and don’t push it at all.

    Hello. I’m also a keyboard player. Can you please inform me on what happened with your hand in course of 4 years since this video? Does playing the piano produce burning in the joint or any discomfort after approximately half an hour of playing? What do you feel in the joint now, both “at load” and “at idle”?

      I actually don't play anymore. My ears are ruined. (sins of my youth) and I got tired of dealing with a shoulder injury. That being said I still use my hands a lot for hobbies related to textiles. I spin yarn, weave, do needle work, stuff like that. I also do a lot of home reno. I have not noticed any lingering affects at all from the injury. I never even think about it anymore. Never causes me discomfort.

    Thanks so much for sharing, I ruptured my Sagittal band in the same way as yours but on my right hand, and it was 3 weeks ago before I finally saw a specialist yesterday. I am in a splint now and they said it’s a 50/50 chance it’ll work for me and I’m really really hoping for a positive outcome. I have to wear my splint for 4 weeks before I go back in for a check up. SparrowThe hey man just wanted to give u and anybody else who may read this an update, I went back in for my follow up on Tuesday after getting my splint 4 weeks ago, which was exactly 3 weeks after getting the actual injury, doctor said I had a 50/50 chance of reattachment and healing at 3 weeks. Kept the splint on for the 4 weeks only taking it off for showers, and great news! The Sagittal band actually reattached itself to the tendons and is now on its way to recovery. Doctor bent my hand into a fist, then had me bend it into a fist myself a couple times, felt stiff and weird, and a little swollen, like I was afraid it was gonna click off again, but it didn’t!. Doc also said I’m not quite out the woods yet, I need to keep it in the splint when I sleep and if I’m doing any demanding work, but I can take the splint off and just buddy band it when I’m just relaxing, he actually sent me home with a buddy band on and not the splint. Once again man, thanks for sharing! Really helped my nerves when This all initially occurred.

    This is making me extremely sad. I flicked something out of hand last night and my knuckle suddenly popped and it immediately began hurting, with a weird feeling I've never felt before and I noticed my tendon was rolling off my middle knuckle. I had hoped it was something that would heal in a couple days but now I realize I have at least two months of healing ahead of me while wearing a splint. At least I'm off work for the moment, but I'll be starting again in a few weeks which sucks. I just ordered some splint material off Amazon and am doing more research on this. I hope the splint is going to heal it, I had hand surgery just last year after a tablesaw accident, I really don't want to have to go back to my hand specialist so dang soon...

      @@Textile_Dude I made a splint from a tongue depressor and Acewrap bandage first thing this morning so I've already got that covered, and the swelling has already gone down so I'm not too worried about icing it. • @Textile_Dude
      @Textile_Dude  2 года назад

      @@TheExplosiveGuy well I am not a doctor, but I had my splint for 5 or 6 weeks. Dr g that time I never moved my finger down at the big joint. The lower 2 joints halfway down the finger and near the tip, I would move them as a matter of course when my other fingers moved. What you want to avoid as far as I can tell is any finger extensor effort, that is, straightening and extending the finger out/up. You don't want the torn ligament being asked to support the extensor tendon from rolling off the knuckle. If I recall, after 5 weeks I was instructed to very gently start removing the splint ad doing closing and opening of fist. Still wore splint for a while after but less and less.
