The fact that some of the parents of the victims had to go back to work after their child was murdered is so wrong. Their employers should've provided emergency PAID family leave. I hope the grieving parents that had to go back to work after loosing their child expose their heartless employers.

Remember that many of these families are farm workers, and immigrants. The way this country treats migrant workers, and it’s disdain for immigrants means they become an easily exploitable population bc no one is holding these big agro businesses accountable. This country proves time and time again how little it cares for its citizens and how expendable we all are, even the children.

I was a fireman in Chicago. Twenty minutes into my first day I was on a run. We averaged three fires a day then. I know fear first hand. I also knew my fellow fireman were there for me. We took risks often. We understood the risks, but we took them. It goes with the job. Being a fireman taught me everything I needed to know about myself and the greater good. It's okay to be scared, but the job must be done. I would have gone into Robb Elementary with an axe. I'm not just saying this. I learned it on the job.

No disrespect to firemen but you guys are who you are. Not cops, respectfully you weren't there! Anymore than a police office wasn't there when you were fighting fires or rescuing people. If there's one thing a fireman does know about its safety!!! And I'm sorry bro but you can't tell me 19 officer's busting into a small classroom, emptying thousands of rounds aimed at only the gunman is a safe situation. Anyone can play the terrible incident in their head, and draw conclusions from the comfort of their keyboard but at that time there were too many mistakes, from lawmakers, to teachers leaving doors unsecured to cops not responding. It was a big mess.

I submit to you that 19 cops have a better chance of saving lives in their Uvalde situation by killing the gunman than we ever had when surrounded by smoke and unstable surroundings. In either case, cops or fireman, we are expected to perform with courage. Further, cops not entering a classroom is a far less safe situation for the innocent children inside. As for my narratives at my comfortable keyboard, I would gladly exchange places with any one of those murder kids right now. But I cannot prove that to you. I am a fireman. I know me. You do not. I don't really agree with the "Obama Sucks" sticker but to be frank I'm a progressive individual with a pragmatic approach to gun control... so I am perfectly aware of the fact that if it isn't a gun being used, it'll be something else.
Guns already require a federal background check to purchase (yes, even in Texas), felons are unable to purchase firearms legally because of this already.
So instead of addressing guns as the issue (which in all honesty the availability of a high capacity rifle capable of killing hasn't been a new idea since WW2 and was even more easily available up until the 1980s) we should address why the 18 year old committed the act in the first place.
I gurantee that a 16 year old with a car driving down a crowded festival street will cause at least as many casualties as a mass shooting, and in some prior circumstances, has even caused more.
I think that if you can be drafted into the military at 18, to fight and kill and die in a war that some politician wages, you should be able to drink and be able to smoke. Frankly, you're allowed to use a rifle and kill in the military everytime you are deployed, and I think it's kinda fucked up you're allowed to die to an enemy combatant, mine, bomb, etc. before you can drink or smoke.

In the past two years, Uvalde held two training sessions about active shooters. One of them was two months before the shooting.
The documents given to police outline specific scenarios on how police should respond.
The documents make it very clear: the most import priority in active shooter scenarios is to engage the killer as soon as humanly possible because of the high casualty rates in short time frames.
The training documents outline that stopping the killer is the absolute priority and that walking past the cries of the injured may be necessary. It's essential to engage the shooter ASAP.
Due to the urgency to engage the shooter, it's often not feesible to have a full team of officers ready to respond. Many scenarios practiced by the police outlined one or two officers responding alone. One scenario detailed a two officer team where one officer is shot during the entrance, and the other office is expected to continue alone.
It's harsh to say the officers "should" have died, but that's what's outlined in their training document:
"A first responder unwilling to place the lives of the innocent above their own safety should consider another career field."
Around 11:00AM on the day of the shooting, the gunman shot his grandmother in the head. She called 911 (1st call to police). The gunman then took his grandmother's car to go to the school.
At 11:28AM, the shooter crashes the car in a ditch near the school. Two people witnessed the crash and attempted to help the gunman, but he released fired on them. The witnesses escaped and called the police (2nd call to the police).
A few minutes later, a teacher notices the crash and notes that he has a gun and calls 911 (third call to police).
The shooter walks through the parking lot, while firing his AR-15, and enters the school at 11:33AM. Police have already arrived at a funeral home adjacent to the school.
At 11:35AM, 3 police officers rush the same lock-failed door which the gunman used to enter the school. Upon entering, they received grazing wounds from the shooter and retreat to get more "tactical teams, equipment, specialty equipment, body armor, precision rifleman, and negotiators."
Four police enter in response, but retreat to cover after hearing gunshots. The shooter continues firing in two connected, locked classrooms. Police are still arriving at the scene and no action has been taken by 11:51AM. At this point, about 20 rounds have been heard by police.
At 12:15PM, the border patrol tactical unit arrived with shields.
For the next hour, the police department would receive 6 additional calls from 3 children.
    > "I can hear the police in the next room."
    > "Please send the police."
At 12:50AM, an hour and 17 minutes after the shooter entered the school, a border patrol tactical office opened the door with a janitorial key and shot the gunman.
The response couldn't have been more contradictory to the training. They did everything wrong.
The police did everything the document specifically warned about the dangers of doing. It's fucking insane.
The LITERAL only reason every child in the class room isn't dead is because the shooter was taking his sweet time.
And the police aren't cooperating with investigation because they know they are fucked.
The Uvalde police department essentially listened to 21 children and teachers get murdered until actual help decided to show up, and the border patrol unit still took 40 minutes to respond.
    I don't understand.

The police were going on this stupid “ bring ‘em in alive” mentality I think. See for some reason cops try to bring these people in breathing so they can be put on trial. See in Pittsburgh a few years ago we lost 3 cops to a barricaded criminal. They negotiated him out and arrested him when they should have just said “ come out unarmed and surrender or we’ll bulldoze the house on top of you. Well I agree in this situation the police officers there should have rushed the killer and ended him quickly. Ironically a similar incident occurred at Virginia tech. The police just surrounded the building where a gunman was barricaded in and they did nothing while he killed people. School shooters should get dropped as soon as they can be dropped. In most cases they’re suicidal anyways

As a fellow Texan who lives nearby Uvalde my heart breaks anew everyday for our babies and their families. I wish grown men would stop putting their own petty fears over reality and the lives of the innocent and agree on reasonable laws that save American lives. Instead they cling to the idea they'll need their personal firearms to slaughter Americans one glorious day when their fellow citizens under the orders of our own government come to kill everyone. I mean the sheer bloodlust and excitement to someday have the guns to slaughter other Americans is sick and twisted. Our State Militia aka National Guard Units are trained, armed and ready and the FF guaranteed us that the feds can never disarm our State National Guard units for that very purpose so they could represent their fellow citizens and fight the federal forces. This sick and twisted interpretation of the 2nd amendment is leading more people to die in our streets in times of peace than ever died for the country in war. It's ridiculous. Take away the freedom of our children, lock them into prisons everyday so grown men with aspirations to one day mass slaughter other Americans in glorious civil war can keep their fear based "tools". Then they fail to see its them giving up everyone's liberty to have a normal life from fear all while slinging that old quote and twisting it to make it apply to them. Brainwashed, Misguided idiots allowing the slaughter of the innocent.

Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? I went to offer therapy two weeks after this happened for one weekend and it was quite an experience being in that town. I almost felt like an intruder and there were signs everywhere that said Uvalde strong and there were 21 crosses and 21 bouquets on so many businesses and I remember talking to a member of the hospital staff that was at the hospital on the day of the shooting and they said I don’t understand why I am so desensitized to this. They talked about how some of the children came in and we’re completely destroyed physically and they said they couldn’t allow themselves to cry because they had a job to do and even after it was done, they still hadnt cried. The look in this person’s eyes was haunting. As I drove home that weekend I remember thinking, it’s great the community has shown up but some of these people were being reminded of it daily all over the place. It was a weird feeling. At first I felt honored to be there and when I left I felt like I was intruding on a broken community that had so much healing to do.

Change needs to happen now. Why aren't there extensive background checks for all gun pruchasers,no matter if they are over 21 or under 21? There's nothing wrong with making sure a person is capable of making good decisions with firearms! Why aren't there mandatory psych evaluations, preferably from 2 or more different psychologists & psychiatrists, in order to obtain approval to own a firearm? We can evaluate a person while driving, but we can't extensively evaluate a person to see if they are even mentally capable of responsibly handling a firearm? So many things wrong with America, and God sees all!

All you need to do is go back to the 1994 assault weapons ban. Disallow any rifle that can hold more then 10 rounds and require those be turned in. Offer owners of said weapons a reasonable bolt action hunting rifle ( of they claim it’s for hunting) or a perfectly capable 12 gauge pump action shotgun ( if they claim home defense) As to handguns those should be restricted back to a maximum of 10 shots and people should learn HOW TO ACTUALLY AIM. Cause if you cant defend yourself with a 5 shot .38 special S&W J frame then 15 or 17 shots ain’t going to do any better. If you want to be sure you don’t need to shoot twice then carry a .357 or a .44 magnum. I carried a Kahr K40 for several years only had 7 shots total plus 1 reload. Felt perfectly safe carrying it. These days a 10 shot micro compact is all you really need with you. And a good maverick 88 pump art home. If they want my AR-15 and want to offer me fair compensation for it I got no problem with that

They're already equipped mentally to protect their classroom of children, and they will always be the "first responder" in a situation like this. Not to mention it could really deter someone with ill intentions to know there's armed educators and you don't know which one does(n't) carry.

Because all the security measures like metal detectors and trained school police officers will be for nothing. A gun on a teacher if a would be school shooter knows it’s there is just making their task of getting a gun that much easier. See these killers are insiders and are already suicidal, this just gives them a gun already there. Now add to that the 50 percent loss of dexterity that an adrenaline rush gives you and how can you be sure you’ll hit the gunner and not a non combatant student? Then let’s consider that most teachers do not want to be lugging “ big iron” around with them, or consider the teacher who will not carry it cause it’s too heavy but leave it in their bag or desk? There are too many what ifs, too many unforeseeable variables to cover in just 8 to 12 hours of training class. Most teachers will agree they do not want to carry guns. Those that do are playing with fire

    • @MrParamethius
      @MrParamethius Год назад

@@matthewcaughey8898 Thanks for the thoughtful response. As a quick note, I'm not saying it's mandatory to carry if you're an educator.
I've never been to a school with a metal detector or a school police officer that actually did "police work" besides escorting misbehaving students. On the flipside, every school I've been to has had at least 2 teachers who were military/police at some point. You know they'd be the first to sign up for an in school CCW with every intention of protecting their students.
However, I do see where you're coming from about certain troubled students seeing it as an opportunity. I think of those educators who choose to carry like Air Marshals, they would make it difficult to know they even have the thing, and good luck snagging it from their waistband. If anything it'd allow the school to know who the troubled students are before they actually do something terrible.
Either way, I'd love to see what happens if a school does adopt my way of thinking.

That “if someone wants to do some damage they will find a way” struck me.
He’s right to a certain extend. As someone who lived in Europe most my life, if someone wants to attack people they will find a way. Tell you what tho, they don’t find AR15s here. They have to “get creative” to do the damage. Personally I like to assume (just my own opinion) that this specific style of weapon is so often used in the US because it’s easily accessible and easily does a lot of damage.
