I’m a long time fan. I’m going to be 79 this month. I’ve fished since grade school. I love bass fishing. I learned in the early 1980s that I wasn’t into competitive bass fishing. I love the sport. I follow MLF and BASS. I fish weekly when I can. I love being on the water so momentum isn’t an issue for me. I love it when I catch ‘em, but I’m OK if I don’t.

I start my season well before I hit the water. Boat and trailer maintenance and any needed preventative measures before season. Gear preparation line,tackle and storage organization. Safety gear check PFD’s,NORCO boost charger and for big water. ACR personnel location emergency beacon,strobe and electronic flare. These items give me confidence on the Great Lakes and are must haves. Planning and research on areas I intend to fish with contingency’s for wind and weather conditions. Do all the things you can control then go fishing and enjoy. If a problem arises on the water work through it and improvise with what you have. Mostly I fish solo so being prepared is paramount for a enjoyable day and safety also. Smell the roses while on the water and don’t overthink the great day.

Great tips Ben. We all need to learn how to manage the highs and lows of fishing so we can get much better to obtain the positive results we all desire.

I'm in a terrible 4 trip slump. Bad water and weather conditions each time I was able to get out. Really hard not to get spun out. When the frustration would hit hard, I'd put my rods down for a while and worked on learning my graphs better. I build my boat over the winter and the Ultrex with the Mega 360, are brand new to me and I know l can dial in my SI DI images better. Gives me a little mental break while I'm still being productive on the water. So when the water stabilize and the temps get in a good range l will be prepared.

check out Smalljaw on here he posted a video today he uses a smaller diameter hook to be able to add a wire form/baitkeeper.. Dan mentions the hook model number and wire form number

Great topic to discuss Ben. Finally got my used 16ft Alumicraft on the water. Had 1 objective to calibrate the trolling motor and guess what I couldn’t get it to work. On a positive note it was a beautiful day today, ate dinner on the water, had dog on the boat and she seemed to enjoy it and I caught 3 trout and my wife caught one. Didn’t let the trolling motor issue wreck the trip.

Ben I need to refill my spools ...should I use backing for my fluorocarbon and braid rods and if so what line and size ?

I would use backing. I typically just use line from my old reels as backing to fill about 1/3of the spool before I put my main line

And many of the days you enter a "flow state" can be days that started terrible but a calculated adjustment changed the day to a killer. We also know that fishing with no confidence rarely produces a good day. By the way Gt Bay is 🔥 right now!!!!
