  • OK, it broke on my watch, but I swear it wasn't my fault. After John fixed his seized caliper and replace a badly worn out brake line, he just left the car sitting in the backyard for weeks. It was a nice day, so while he was at work, I figured I'd move the car back to the curb so he can start using it again - and BAM! - this happened.
It started up ok - took 3 tries from sitting too long - but then it was running... and then I heard a "thump" but didn't know what that was... until I got in the car to back it out and couldn't turn the steering wheel.
Turns out the drive belt snapped, and it probably caused the alternator to seize... I shut the car off and waited for John to come home and diagnose the issue. With a quick trip to AutoZone for a Durolast replacement alternator (he liked the lifetime replacement warranty) and drive belt, he got to work with his socket set (13mm and 15mm) and what he calls his "pinch bar"...
Now the car is running like a champ again, just in time for his abusive winter driving needs.
