Back in the 2021 draft scouts were high as hell on him. I remember bob Mackenzie had him going 3rd overall. Idk how he fell to us. I was a little surprised and pretty damn happy. I do think Edvinsson will be an elite top tier d man. That skating and those hands you can’t teach for a big man. Him and seider are gonna go crazy for years to come.
I remember an interview that Yzerman did several months before that draft where Art was asking him about who he thought they'd take (or something to that effect). Yzerman asked Art who would be drafted first; he said "Owen Power." Yzerman said something to the effect of "oh, alright. How about second?" And Art said, "maybe Simon Edvinsson?" And Yzerman again gave a little grin and said "oh, good to know." At that point, Edvinsson was for sure seen as a top 3 prospect. And nothing really happened to change that, other than Beniers rising. Still surprised we got him at pick #6.

It's not just any player he's going up against in 1v1s here so give him time to build up his big body and settle in his new home country, most say he'll be a vital part of the squad for the next 15 years. #LGRW
Argued this with a few individuals in the last few days about Detroit's roster direction. SY is going to a jumbo grind out defensive bulwark line similar to what Las Vegas, and Carolina built. Since this team cannot receive the chance to add elite forwards, Detroit has to build from the blue line out. More than likely to expect more drafting for big men in the 2024 NHL draft also. So add in these new sizable dmen....... Andrew Gibson 6'3" 203 lbs Brady Cleveland 6'5" 209 lbs Larry Keenan 6'3" 185 lbs Jack Phelan 6'2" 185 lbs Factor in the players on the verge of a roster spot.
