    Not gonna pretend to be a prospect scout, but it’s easy to see that Yzerman is building a defensive corps filled with tall, physical, and highly mobile dudes. Cossa and Ned gives the Wings two premium shots at a franchise goalie. Then throw in the couple good forward prospects… exciting future in Detroit

    I was a little confused with the choice of Cossa over Wallstedt at first just because of how hyped Wallstedt was, but after seeing Cossa’s stats, highlights, and post-draft interview, I really like the pick. Some of the late-round picks look promising too

    • @IndicacannaJones
      @IndicacannaJones 3 года назад +3

      The stats could be a bit misleading though. Cossa had jr. competition whereas Wallstedt, if I'm not mistaken, his stats are from the top Swedish league.

    Yzerman’s aggressiveness in trades is what has been lacking in Detroit, Holland failed to adapt, he never tried to make a big move at trade deadlines, and he was pretty terrible in a lot of drafts, it’s beautiful to see Yzerman doing what is necessary to build a winning hockey team.

    Overall I give Detroit a B in the first round. I believe an excellent defense and goalie are more important than offense. Two things you are not winning without stellar defense and strong goaltending. It doesn't matter if your offense scores 3 goals but your defense and goalie allow 4 goals, your still losing the game. Edvinsson was a solid choice at 6th and can definitely bolster up the back end with Seider and I was hoping for Cossa at 23 because we need a strong goalie and Wallstedt was not going to be there by then. We didn't really have any promising top standing out goalie prospects. Now here is where I think Yzerman made a mistake in trading up to 15 to select Cossa, I mean yeah I understand if he chose Wallstedt and I definitely thought that was the plan at first. The goalies started slipping. I mean we're already at 15 and no goalie was selected yet. Only 8 more spots until 23 and Nashville probably wasn't gonna pick a goalie since they took Askarov last year. I feel like Cossa might have been there by then. But hey there are no guarantees. Wallstedt went at 20. Who knows? Cossa might have been gone at 22. I guess it doesn't really matter at least for now. Most rankings had them equal to each other. Ultimately I trust Yzerman. Plus isn't it weird how every year you always hear "this is the best goalie prospect ever" or this is the best goalie prospect in the last decade" then next year comes and its always the same thing. It's like hey draft that guy, he's better than that other guy....because he does the exact same thing 🤔

      Ehh Mailloux did a really douchey thing, but at 17 you really can’t expect somebody to be perfect, and it shouldn’t prevent him from having a career…
      … That being said, he did the smart thing by opting out of the draft to try to rehab his image, and Bergervin completely fucked him by dragging him right back out into the spotlight.
