  • Ok, I don't want to give the game away in the description, BUT this Bavaria C46 is going to surprise you, trust me, comparing this C-line 46, to two other yacht manufacturers, I am sure you will understand why it won the 2024 best family cruiser of the year award. let me know in the comments below if it ticks the boxes for you?

    Very odd this showed up as a video on my TV, but it took some effort to find it on my iPad. A lot to like about this boat tbh.i just wish these builders would offer a single rudder rather than twin as a construction option. Explanation, I’ll be up and Dow to and from the Caribbean like a yo-yo to visit friends in Massachusetts, and the east coast of the USA is a massive No No for Twin rudders due to the Lobster Pot and Crab Pot Fields along the coast. Twin rudders basically rules out night Sailing as a result, and the forced use of the ICW, which really demands exceptionally shallow Draft and a very restricted Mast Height for bridge clearance.So it would be rather nice to have a choice. Single rudder brings with it the pretty important early warning to depower the Sails that is called Weather Helm. With Wide Beams and full length chines, having the boat staying pretty vertical with very little heeling itself makes twin rudders rather pointless imho. The boat I intend getting is best kept under 15 degrees of heel in all conditions and a single spade rudder performs perfectly adequately. Shame though, the C46 and C45 Elan, plus various others and such have totally ruled themselves out as potential purchases due to the imho extremely stupid twin rudder fashion fad being applied to wide beam boats - there is possibly a worthwhile place for Twin rudders on the old narrow beam Racing Sailboats - that nobody is building any longer. Frankly that even being considered for new wide beam Sailboats today is beyond annoying to me. Rant Over. On the plus side, that Yanmar have finally sorted their Saildrive issues with the Cone Clutch by providing an excellent upgrade kit for them is a really massive plus. Available for about four years, i only found out about the upgrade kit availability a couple of weeks ago while laid up in hospital.How many owners remain who still don’t know that it exists I wonder ? Best Wishes. Bob.🤔👍🌟🌟🌟❤️⛵️

    Just watched this again (it’s a slow day, with no nurses visiting,after back out from hospital again ) , and noticed that Bavaria need to be complemented on their beam wide use of small square fixed roof lights instead of the massive beam wide single roof light wgich are an expensive pain I. The backside to replace when they fail on you. 👍👍👍 Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟❤️

    How would you compare the build quality and finish of this compared to the Hanse 460? To me this looks nicer

      If you asked that question a couple of years ago, then definitely Bavaria would've been better built. During the old J&J era (the boats with the signature blue stripe on the side decks) and a slightly more recent Farr designed series, Bavaria was lightyears ahead of Hanse with build quality. From the cupboard latches to the stiffness of the superstructure everything was significantly better.
      Today however, particularly with the Cosutti designed C series, they are pretty much the same boat in terms of pretty much everything, including build quality. Bavaria has basically copied the Hanse steering pedestals to the last detail. I don't think one is honestly better than the other as they are so similar. The question comes down to what boat can you get a better deal on

    Hi! Doors must be very cheap in Europe: three in a square meter just to say there's a "suite"! A boat that thinks it's beer and tries to please everyone, can't be good on everything. On the deck there's a place fora winch without one. The "engine room" is so cramped, but the saloon is very good, kitchen is nice althought I would've changed the position of the fridge/freezer with the sink to keep tha wall clean. That storage space is nothing but amazing! In a 46! Wow! Won points! As did the nav station (could've a better outside view but nothing's perfect). And to me, the light on the companion steps should be copied by many more expensive boats. Beautiful! But that flimsy plastic door lost points...
    Ah, one more reason for a double table on the cockpit is when taking bodies off the boat. Life's much easier with them. Those who ever needed to take an injuried person off know what I mean.
    A boat that, with some touches could be more interesting than it is. But has potential :)

      Doors are expensive here so the more you have the richer people think you are;) the engine room is a little short on space but I like the frame for the generator as it act’s as a carry cradle for if you need to remove it. I am with you over switching the sink or at least put a bigger splash back on the wall. I think for a 46ft production boat it is definitely on the right side of being a good choice. I think a few little changes and options this is a winning model.

      When I First Saw a Split Cockpit Table, I took an instant dislike to them as hindering access to Cockpit under seat side lockers where all of the emergency equipment, Cockpit First Aid Kit is kept.but usually in a modern Wide Beam Aft Cockpit Sailboat, Suitable alternative places with just as easy access appear to be available, so I am starting to come around to the design tbh. The modern Aft Cockpit is yet another strike against the Restrictive limitations that come with Centre Cockpit Sailboats whe you think about it, for which demand appears to have fallen off a cliff, and I don’t think many, if any boatbuilders are building Centre Cockpit Sailboats any longer ?( to me, they have never had any actual rather than theoretical safety advantage, an most appear to have been nothing but uncomfortable Sweat boxes or Saunas in hot places, though a few had excellent internal volume to keep enough air moving, and tended to be the same models that had comfortable and safe companionway steps? Perhaps surprisingly to some, the very best Centre Cockpit Sailboats I’ve ever seen, were built by Hunter in the USA. Light, airy, and comfort enough for fussy me to be able to live comfortably on one tbh.Best Wishes. Bob in Wales still.🤔👍🌟🌟🌟⛵️

    Nothing is perfect, I know! Even because the definition of "perfect" is imperfect... but still, Hanse is my choice. Even both being at the same "production boats" category, overall I prefer the risks Hanse has been facing in order to try to bring innovation to their yacht range. Their newer boats 410 and 510 have great looks and finishings. But that's just me!

    • @SVTONICBoatWives
      @SVTONICBoatWives  6 месяцев назад +1

      I understand we had a first look at the 460 and then last year at the 410 and 510, but I know a few Hanse owners and things have changed with the new boats, loads of extra volume new cockpit areas and so on. The only thing is the quality of the interior material’s has taken a backseat I think and Bavaria have stepped up their game, they are not as pretty as Hanse but interior finishes are definitely better. It’s a hard choice and something we will put to the vote.
