    I'm a fan of Moody's well designed DS concept. Being a bit old school I'd have a nav station there, so one doesn't get distracted on passages/night watches. I don't know how it is to do maintenance inside that "engine room" concerning space. It seems nice, but on wide angle even my bedroom look enormous :) If it has a shaft instead of a saildrive, I'd say it's an interesting "more accessible" option to my dream boat, the Amel 50. Not in the same category, but it has its charm and qualities. The dinghy garage and arm being one of them!
    Curious to see how it sails, if it has in mast furling. Is it two rudders?
    Shocked by the damage made to the boat!!
    Thanks for the video and sharing the Dusseldorf experience! Looks good! See you on the next!
    PS - YT can't stand a joke nowadays... I loved the bodies count for measuring locker space ")

      I like the Moodys to as you say a well designed sailboat, but at this price point we are in the realm of other brands as you rightly pointed out. The engine space is as big as it looks on camera and I was impressed with how well it was setup. I am like you via the navigation system and would opt for a nav screen, autopilot and electronic throttle control forward, and yet I know I would still do all my watches mostly in the cockpit.

    I do understand the modern way of navigating by iPads etc but for me as an older out of date sailor brought up in the 60s/70s way of boating I would always want a dedicated nav station with room for peer charts and lots of gismos around me. Makes me feel like I am still the skipper/navigator and happy as a pig in sh** . It should also be an area where other peoples crap is not allowed so you don't have to fight for space to work in. Shame on people to bother going to a boat show just to vandalise stuff. Great video always clearly explained and good points noted.

      Glad you enjoyed the tour, I will add that I like to still use paper charts on longer passages and an almanac when around local coastal water’s. But I am slowly moving towards a new way of organizing on a sailboat, nope who am I kidding give me a full on nav desk and office space as I like to see it now any day. :)

    Incredible boat and lovely tour, as usual. Not very sporting with the sheeting angles and such, but that's not really what this boat is about. This feels truly like a hybrid yacht between powerboat style side decks with those beautifully high and secure coamings, the full beam raised and split salon, and the impressive twin mirrored guest cabins aft of the owners suite. I think I would stick with the extra seating to port minus the interior helm station. With all the controls and plotters being wireless and fully remote these days, there's not much need to dedicate limited space to occasional use functions. Looks plenty secure to sit through watch in warmth and comfort - just incredible. Gotta love all those time-out lockers sprinkled throughout the boat. x-)

      It’s funny that you have pointed out how similar it is to a motor boat, a good friend of mine has a coastal trawler, he pointed out that if we took the tall stick of it and just had one helm it would be almost a carbon copy of his boat.

    • @someguy9440
      @someguy9440 5 месяцев назад

      @@SVTONICBoatWives Yes the salon and those sidedecks give me flashbacks to an old Chris-Craft I once owned. The cool thing with this Moody is that instead of tanks and twin V8s lying below the salon, you have two staterooms! I think it's difficult to overstate what an achievement in engineering marvel this is. You have all the interior space, displacement, and convenience of yesteryear's motorsailers but this boat looks like it will actually sail well on all points, maybe even in lighter airs with a code zero or a gennaker.

    I am old enough to remember the Angus Primrose designed Moody yachts when the new high volumn boats were introduced. The first time that I was aboard a Moody 33 at Earls Court I was amazed at the volumn, although I might still have had a Folkboat at the time. Mind you, back then a forty footer was virtually a Superyacht, how time have changed. Yes please, I could spend a few months aboard this new "Moody" Let them give you one for a test on the salty stuff, that would be interesting.👍

    This is a very good attempt at making a mono into a cat as far as possible of course!! However It makes you wonder if the designers have actually ever done an offshore bluewater passage in foul weather? the last place you want to be is out on the stern lol. But I'd go hide in that lovely salon most the time anyway tbh. Making boats bigger by making them wider & taller just isnt smart. Waterline length is speed. Increasimg beam increases righting moment but it increases drag just as much and increases weight more. Plus the motion in a seaway gets worse and there is much further to fall when heeled. Shortt wide boats are hard on the helm & autopilot. Sailing loads - and therefore crew loads - are increased. These boats are ok in sheltered water and moderate wind, but are less than ideal in the ocean. Plus Hanse's extremely dubious build quality......
