I’ve sold very desirable vehicles whenever we had no in inventory, there was a waiting list and we still did not charge markups There’s plenty of profit selling an MSRP.

Former Toyota mechanic here who got let go for being too honest (literally). Nitrogen tire inflation is a Huge fat scam. If customer didn't have a tire light on, we just gave them green caps and off you go, same with fuel injector and throttle body services we never did them. As it goes for transmission service you are paying for 8 quarts of a new transmission fluid to circulate the old one out, but parts department was giving us only 3. ALWAYS Lease new car, NEVER buy one, because after couple of years of mechanics not doing their jobs, you will be forced to sell your "new" car due to an unimaginable neglect.

At the Texas state fair I asked the people selling Toyotas at their display when the dealerships will stop the 10k and 15k over msrp markups. They said corporate wants them to stop but couldn’t say if it will stop.
I was THIS close to buying a new Honda Odyssey. They had the strip on the side, another $2k worth of crap. I looked at the salesman, and said "I not paying for ANY of that stuff." His answer? "YES YOU ARE." I laughed, called him an a-hole, and stomped out. Bought a new Odyssey at a dealership 15 miles away, and drove back in and spoke with the Sales Manager. He had been introduced to me the day before. I showed him my new Odyssey, and explained what happened the day before. He said he understood, and shook my hand, and asked for me to use his dealership to service my new Honda. He then went looking for my old salesman. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for that one.
Skipped the 2024 Taco for a 2024 Honda Ridgeline 6 cylinder, as it was just a much better deal. Toyota has gone crazy asking more money for less truck and now crying that we won't use their service dept. anymore, but if you gouge on the sales floor, you can bet it continues in the service dept.
I don't care for loud and flashy paint colors. makes you more of a target for cops. be the gray man that blends with everyone else, keeps you low key and out of the eye.

I don't understand, why the markups? All car manufacturers quality keeps going down, even Toyotas aren't as reliable as they were 10, 15, 20 years ago. Also lackluster engines that substitute turbos for displacement will likely not last as long as previous models. And the number of recalls is crazy! Just my 2 cents worth.
just realized that my BMW dealer is relatively honest, compared to this Toyota dealer. (my BMW dealer has a strict policy of NEVER selling over MSRP and never add useless dealer-installed junk)

It's strange, I went to two dealerships with Mustang GTs this last spring that were 30 miles from each other. One had a $5K markup, the other had a price $4K below MSRP. Guess which one got my business?

I can’t go to Costco and get nitrogen in tires for free. Windows tinted at a local shop for less than $450. If they wanted my business they’d better remove the $1599 or I’d walk away. Tundras are beyond overpriced.
A dealership is going to pay bare bones for the window tint tint companies are OK with it because of the volume I worked at many dealerships. Generally it was $70 for front and back was our actual cost

Most people couldn't calculate a monthly payment given a financed amount, an interest rate and a term. Even with a calculator or a cell phone. There can be dozens of numbers that go into the financed amount. They will get you for $10 and $100 and $1,000 and try for $10,000. People who think they can "spitball it" get eaten alive at dealerships. I can remember when $400 a month was a lot. Now $1,400 a month is common for something "nice".

Wait, you listed the vehicle for $X and then you want to add $2300 for stuff you did? (Which by the way, they had the service record for what they did which was, inspection, wiper blades, and tires) Yeah sorry you can't sell the truck for what it's worth and then charge me for the repairs you put into it. If that's the case, YOU paid too much for the truck, I'm not going too.

How do you know “they’re sitting not selling” ?? How many days? Going through the lot in the morning while people at work you have no idea how long each individual vehicle has been in that spot. Are you writing down VINs and keeping track every month? They ARE selling actually. Takes a month. That’s normal. Not like produce selling at a grocery. You dont see the movement.
Side note: my local dealership told me flat out that they are adding all of the accessories they can to the remaining 2024 4runners because they won't fit on the 2025s.
I personally don't own a Toyota but I am more than willing to recommend them to a friend as a great truck or autumn Ville decision. When I go into dealerships, I know that they think they have the upper hand because once you show up it means you want to buy something. I take a look around and pretty much ignore everything the salesman says and if I find something I like I say what is the lowest out the door price for this vehicle you can give me? If I don't like the price I simply say thank you and I will buy a vehicle for me another dealership. You would not believe what these people will do to get you to not leave. They will beg and plead for you to come inside so you can talk to the manager which is a bunch of crap because they're just in there talking about baseball or something to make you think that they're trying to work on deal for you.these places exist to make money and they're not gonna do you any favors. Don't let them take advantage of you and let them know as soon as you walk in that you want the lowest out of the price they can give you on paper. If it's too high.
Cars in high demand like Toyota Hybrid models such as Prius, Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Grand Highlander, Sienna still have various mark up. Only the slow moving Tacoma and Tundra Sequoia models are selling below MSRP now. There's nothing wrong for dealers to ask for more than MSRP. Just look at the GPU market 2 to 3 years ago, they were selling at 2X to 3X of the MSRP. Supply and demand. Or look at the housing market, many houses got sold for more than the seller ask for. It's free market. If you don't want to pay mark up, then don't choose model that's in high demand and low supply, simply as that.
Sadly, Toyota has gone the way of the German car makers where they sell new models based entirely on their heritage and legacy of quality. The new models are garbage full of Chinese parts and critical things like water pumps and engine valve covers made of plastic to save on costs. To top this, they are charging premium prices WITHOUT dealer markups. Toyotas used to be economy vehicles with superior quality and durability. Now they are disposable appliances that will not last far beyond the warranty period. You are better off buying a Toyota/Lexus from around 1996-2010 when they were at the peak of their game.
I’ve owned 9 Toyotas and will never buy another one. They are producing less quality and insane pricing. I saw a Tacoma pro for 85k. These dealerships should be boycotted for sure.
The turbo V-6 was a mistake, that's why the new Tundra is not selling. People are buying Ford and Chevy V-8s instead. RAM went with a turbo V-6 as well, which was a mistake. At least the Frontier still has a non-turbo V-6 while Toyota Tacoma only comes with a 4 cylinder turbo, another mistake.
@@JK-qe6qq it is still an overworked, small 6 cylinder which will wear out sooner than the V-8 Hemi. Who knows how long the turbo will last, especially if oil changes are not done at frequent intervals. Dumb idea.
All the new Toyota trucks and SuV’s are garbage. Even the Toyota cars feel cheap now. I’ve test driven 6 Toyotas vehicles these past 2 weeks and the only one that felt like a quality build and ride was the 2024 Toyota 4Runner. The 2024 Tacoma and 2024 Tundra felt cheap. The transmission in the Tacoma felt like it was going to go out within 10K the way it shifted and jerked through gears. The Tundra already had a slight ticking noising when I let it ideal for 15 mins while ignoring the Toyota Salesman.. LOL Toyota is definitely cheaper and not the same company. Bye Bye Toyota…It was great while it lasted.

Family Toyota Dealerships in DFW area never had markups. I purchased my Tundra in 2022 with the ticket price while all others tried markups.

@@JK-qe6qq it is still an overworked, small 6 cylinder which will wear out sooner than the V-8 Hemi. Who knows how long the turbo will last, especially if oil changes are not done at frequent intervals. Dumb idea.

All the new Toyota trucks and SuV’s are garbage. Even the Toyota cars feel cheap now. I’ve test driven 6 Toyotas vehicles these past 2 weeks and the only one that felt like a quality build and ride was the 2024 Toyota 4Runner. The 2024 Tacoma and 2024 Tundra felt cheap. The transmission in the Tacoma felt like it was going to go out within 10K the way it shifted and jerked through gears. The Tundra already had a slight ticking noising when I let it ideal for 15 mins while ignoring the Toyota Salesman.. LOL Toyota is definitely cheaper and not the same company. Bye Bye Toyota…It was great while it lasted.

Guys, remember if you cave in and buy from these bastards that mark up the price then you are just as guilty for this happening. If you exercise some self control and some self respect and wait them out, they’ll have to lower their prices to move them out for next years model.

I wouldn’t touch any of those Tundras with those twin turbo V6s. We already know Toyota has to replace a lot of engines. What’s going to happen down the road as they age? Even Toyota makes stupid decisions from time to time. These twin turbo trucks will have low resale value throughout their lives
