Toyota's 2H FY2024 (Oct 2024-Mar 2025) global production target is 5 million vehicles, according to Japanese media. Fiscal Year 2024 (Apr 2024 to Mar 2025) full year target is still domestic 3.35 million, and overseas 6.65 million, roughly the same as last FY.
You make it sound as if Toyota's intentionally cutting production just for the US market, but 10 million vehicle production worldwide is still the largest in the world. Having said that, there are specific challenges with certain regions and models.
Production is reduced in China where competition and price war is fierce with Chinese automakers and sales are declining Year-over-Year. A few Japanese plants are experiencing re-certification issues for a few models so production for those models were temporary suspended. There was a massive typhoon that forced the closure of all plants in end of August and beginning of September. But total daily output is still around 14,000 vehicles per day in all of Japanese plants.
A few production sites in the US were affected by recalls of certain models. And Mexico production was affected by shortage of components. Apparently, there is high competition for workers in Mexico with so much re-shoring from many US tech companies. Component suppliers are facing high turnovers, affecting stable production and supply of certain components.

Toyota is not as profitable in the USA as in the past because of all the emission regulations. They are way more profitable globally. Therefore, it is clear that they are boosting profits by selling mark up packages and limiting inventory. This scheme could backfire. Basically, if Kia and Hyundai can improve long term reliability then Toyota may have shot themselves in the foot.

When the last gen Tahoe was advertised I knew I will get one, but I got it for 20% discount and then some like free oil change till 60,000 km and some other sweets on top of the deal since it was setting in the dealer's lot for almost a year gathering dust.
I don't say that people should deprive themselves as there is no harm in indulging yourself every once in a while but just be patient and wise about your spending.

I ended up getting over 12k off the msrp. Still driving it of course. But even then after tax and license that was a 70k car at msrp.

They were absolutely packed with people looking to buy, and over a dozen employees running around. We tried to haggle, but they wouldn't budge. 7% APR despite their excellent credit score. They werent interested in us. Theres plenty of suckers willing to pay whatever for their Toyotas.

Toyota dealerships have always been terrible- and going back to my first toyota truck I bought- in 2003- 21 years ago, the toyota dealership I first went to charged over MSRP. When I expressed my desire to negotiate, they literally walked me to the door. They've always been predatory. Most recent time I gave a different toyota dealer a shot was in 2022. They were doing the same thing. Markups, addons, and they wouldn't budge. They didn't show me the door but just got up from the desk , handed me their card and walked away leaving me sitting there scratching my head yet again. They will wait for someone either with really poor credit to take to the cleaners or someone with Doug Demuro money to buy that TRD Pro Sequoia who wants it real bad and knows its only one of 4 others in a thousand mile radius.

Depends on the dealership every since Covid a lot of dealers got away with these crazy markups and the brands don’t step in. I just recently got a highlander nightshade. I actually found a great dealer didn’t charge me a dime over sticker, a dealer or two other wanted 5-7k over sticker

As long as people are willing to pay a markup, the dealers will continue to employ this practice. I was looking for an IS500, and the dealers were asking for anywhere from a $5,000 to $10,000 market adjustment. Finally I got my local dealership to sell an allocated vehicle at zero markup. While I had to wait a month or two for it, it was worth the wait. That market adjustment goes a long way towards paying the sales tax and license on the purchase.

In 2022, we were planning to buy a Rav4 XSE hybrid and the dealer were price gouging and they think they can disrespect us and rip us off with their reasoning. The car was over $12,000 MSRP and we decided to hold the deal. Few days later after some research we tried our luck with a Porsche dealer and they were so nice to us that we bought a brand new Porsche Macan with less finance rates than the Toyota dealer would give us. This is our first Porsche and we love it. The dealer was so eager to give us Porsche jackets, mugs,
Umbrellas and etc for nearly the same price of the XSE. They think as if they’re the only car company with an SUV.

I admit it. I did recently buy a new car with $800 add ons and ridiculously priced dealer add on alarm system. I blame the lack of experience with car buying and I internally pressured myself to get it done. I paid $60 for phone cables and $70 for a collapsible trunk bin I didnt need. The $299 weathertech type floor mats were okay.
At the end of the day, if we buy it, dealers will continue to pad their profits. I did see another dealership selling the same car with 'only' $500 of add-ons. Frankly all dealers do this.

It is a dealer thing as the dealer buys the car for a fixed price from the manufacturer. It may get a discount that must be shown on the adjustment. Dealers in high cost cities do charge adjustments due to their cost in many cases. Fix for the issue is for all the country to adjust taxes and pay to match say that of the average rural southern town.

Unless you’re open to try other brands It does seem like they’re all either unreliable or overpriced now. I saw your video on the Dodge pickups, $50-$60k for a Ram 2500 actually isn’t that bad. Never really pictured myself in a Dodge but I’d buy that over something pretty that’s more expensive and less capable.

I'm interested in a Rav4 hybrid XSE. I have not been to the dealership yet, but checking the inventory on the dealer's websites.
Most of the options they list are the things I want. But they also add stuff I don't want, such as lower body graphics for $400. Black out emblem overlays for $175, phone & device charging cable package for $70. And a first aid kit $25. That's $670 for
    superfluous items.
One more thing...Toyota has 4 packages of options. I want package #3. But the XSE is only sold with package #4 that includes a moon roof that I don't want. Trying to find a XSE with option package #3 is almost impossible. This makes car shopping frustrating.
