That’s what I did 4 years ago , I purchased a 2002 4Runner with an engine that needed to be rebuilt due to valves and other engine internals , I purchased a brand new engine block with everything new to Toyota specs and oem parts. Paid $4k for the new engine $1000 to have it put in and $1200 for the truck with 148k miles. Till this day not a single issue like at all !!

@2011sliverdude I'm not saying ALL CVTs are bad, only the ones Nissan has been using. Nissan (and whatever other brands uses the same CVT manufacturer and some others do) have had many problems with their CVTs. My point was that the Frontier is a good choice. It has a proven 6 cylinder non-turbo engine and a good non CVT transmission and makes an EXCELLENT alternative to the now ruined new Tacoma.

Great video! I’ve been looking for a Tundra now going on month 2 and other than reliability issues, a major issue is these dealers playing games. A 2024 tunda’s been on the lot 150 days and refuse to take off nonsensical crap like LoJack for $900, two tinted front windows for $500 and a bunch of other nonsense. I just got off the phone with a dealer advertising a tundra for 49,900 and when I reach out to negotiate, they start the price at 54k. I ask them why the price of the vehicle is higher than that advertised and their response makes ZERO sense whatsoever. Then they tack on additional bloat fees like dealer advantage fees that offer towing and other useless things. It’s insane.

I have owned 4 Tacomas in the past and don't want to own another torture device so I have been scoping out 4Runners and Tundras. The Tundras are just too expensive from the get go but it really makes me mad when the Toyo dealers all put the damn XP predator steps (that I do not want) on the 4Runners for $4000 and "Microfilm Protection" for $800 and THEN put a dealer sticker that says "Market Adjustment" $8000. Are they kidding? Another $12000 just to get an SR5 out the door? I never thought I would say this, but I think a Ridgeline for a discounted price is a much better deal than these things.

Anyone paying MSRP or more for any Toyota is a fool. If your dealer still has the "golden blinders" on, GO TO ANOTHER ONE, even if it's in another state. Don't buy a new Tundra or Tacoma yet, they are obviously still working major bugs out. Going forward, unless the Toyota you're shopping for is completely made in Japan, you're now going to have to treat them like Chevy, Ford and Chrysler and wait a few years for ANY new model or new engine to get the bugs out. Toyota is NOT immune to this. They never were but with them making trucks in Mexico, Alabama and Texas, you most definitely have to treat them like the typical American made car and GIVE THEM TIME.

I agree and disagree. I don’t think these new products are going to be unreliable or bad. They will get fixed and soon will be reliable enough. As reliable as the older models probably not but reliable enough. However, these prices are just absurd. I am not sure why they think it’s a good idea to let dealers and the MSRP be so high. As for the truck I think they should have slowly phased out the V8 and included it as an under powered option, or upgraded it. Give the V8 some upgrade and make it a hybrid. It would have made a lot of people happier and the same thing could have been done the V6. Offer the NA version as the base model V6/V8 and the power model either a hybrid V6/V8 or the iforce max engines we currently have because on paper they are better in every way. But to go back yeah these trucks are just too damn expensive

Sales are down but profits are up so they don’t care . The government pays them to comply and they can sell fewer cars at higher prices so everyone but the consumer is happy

Gone are the days that you bought a Toyota because it’s “reliable”. Toyota got greedy with their loyal customers and failed to deliver.

I’ll keep driving my 89 Toyota 4x4! Cost me $1000 about 20 years ago and probably spent $3000 on maintenance the whole time I’ve had it. And it’s never Sean a mechanic. So simple to work on.

My 95 Tacoma, zero issues at 200K, 08 Tundra, bullet proof at 300K+ and 16 Tacoma, just hit 100K easily. New Toyotas are garbage. Hoping Akio steps in soon to save the Toyota legacy.

OK, the lead in commercial for this video was from Nissan. They were touting a "7-Mode drive system", and about that point I hit SKIP. But that alone tells us that there is toooooo much bullshit baked into these vehicles. Just get me from point A to point B safely and let the rest of the crap you try to add on be options, not features.

Window tint, door edge guards door cup guards is normally what these dealers in my area are charging $2000 for
It’s just a really cheap piece of plastic put in the door cup, and then at the edge of the doors

I’m glad people are not buying these cheaply made and over priced Toyota vehicles. Even Toyota cars and crossover vehicles are having issues. My parents bought a brand new 2023 RAV4 SE Hybrid and it’s been in the shop for check engine lights, fuel pump failure , and interior parts breaking. All New Toyota Model year Cars, trucks, and SUVs feel cheap and drive uneasy. Toyota needs a leadership change and I will NOT purchase a NEW Toyota until I see Toyota go back to making quality vehicles and they fire the CEO, board members, and engineers. Epic failure Toyota.
