Turbos can be reliable its the build quality that is disappointing. Could have hybridized the existing motors and tuned them down or went 2.5 electric. Put a heavier transmission. BUMP STOPS.
The reason they changed the engine was not because it was old but because of stricter emission regulations. A 2021 V8 Tundra produces 601 grams of greenhouse gas emissions per mile, and a 2024 Tundra produces 459 grams per mile. Yeah, anyone who says the 5.7 lacked lower end power is smoking crack. The only "issue" with the truck is the pedal tuning which was tuned back on the 2014+ models to use less gas when you press the pedal. Easily solved with something like the Banks Pedal Monster.
@@Luckingsworththey feel very sluggish to promote fuel efficiency but when you have it in tow and ask for torque itll shift way past its torque limit. The truck feels very fast with a 3.92 and that beautiful 5.7 note.
Toyota JP needs to clean house with everyone at ToyotaUSA. What an embarrassment that once utilitarian, reliable, rugged and overbuilt truck has become. Even with regs the feds have been enforcing, they could’ve continued making a barebones manual, 4x4, N/A 4 cyl truck. Factory rear locker and skids option, and as far as “creature comforts” goes, bluetooth and that’s it.
Toyota has disappointed many, many customers. Turbo engines are not good in the long term. Therefore, I will not be buying any new Toyotas. I don't want to be overly critical, but the speaker is far too much much of a Toyota fan. Toyota screwed up big time. There is no positive spin that can change this fact.
I mean it's the first iteration on the new engine I bet in 2 or 3 years they will have these things dialed in. That does not excuse manufacturers from pumping out crap. And on trubo motors not being good in the long run is silly, look at some turbo disels going 400k to 500k with normal maintnece.
Here I am sipping coffee on my 06 Toyota Tacoma v6 4.0 4x4 with 324k miles. Sounds like Toyota is following every other brands steps. Shitty quality and high prices 😢
All this shit your talking about is great but you can’t drive it, it’s junk and it’s forced feed little 4 cylinder with a turbo that won’t last 150K not good !
Toyota switching from miles per gallon to parts per mile! More parts, more money, more problems. 22re was an irreplaceable engine, get back to roots Toyota!
🤣🤣🤣 I moved to the Philippines after I retired and I purchased a new 2022 Toyota HiLux Conquest 4x2 diesel for just under $25k USD and it gets amazing MPG and I love it far more than the two Tacomas that I owned when I still lived in the US.
@ I e had my HiLux for two years now and I’ve only put 13k kilometers on it because I also have a Honda Genio scooter that I purchased new for less than $1500USD and a three wheeled electric golf cart type scooter that I drive to the market which gets the most use. My HiLux also gets better fuel economy then the 2020 Toyota Corolla XSE that I owned before I moved here which proves that the emissions BS that they put on US cars is complete garbage and cause’s vehicles to burn at least 5 times as much fuel
@ 🤣🤣🤣 they don’t put that garbage on their trucks out here which is why my Hilux gets better gas mileage than the 2020 Corolla that I owned before I left the U.S.
To cut costs they destroyed their 40 year legacy of reliability. A turbo in a truck is simply BAD! Every car now is over boosted & the motors don’t hold up because they don’t use forged internals & lots of plastic instead of metal. Buy a 2019 or older Taco & you’ll be happy.
As a Toyota employee I am embarrassed that this is the product we are delivering to our customers. As an employee I have no control of what we build, but this is embarrassing to say the.
As a fellow Toyota employee I agree. I take pride in knowing we have always built top quality products. And all of these issues/negative feedback is hard to swallow
The cab has to be removed to replace the defective Tundra engines. That means a dealer is going to have to take apart all the dashboard connectors and who knows what else and then reassemble the entire cab systems. And this is going to be done in a dealer's shop by who knows how skilled the mechanics are. Problems may not show up while under warranty. I've heard no one is taking them in trade, even Toyota dealers are avoiding them.
How do you solve this problem … don’t buy them. I’ve been on the market for a while, but I’ve decided that no truck is worth over 50k and all the new engines are not worth the headache. I’m going to hold on to my 2011 Ford F-150 with 122k miles for another 10 years
Yep. I was looking too but not paying those prices. Way to go car companies, you’ve priced the middle class out of the market. Some trucks are 100K now. Super cars 15 years ago were 100k. This industry is out of control
@@wg4154heck yea! I have been wondering why in the world navigation in any vehicle is still a selling point. My phone works just fine in all my older vehicles! 😂

I get 21mpg in my 2021 Tacoma TRD with a V6. I think the new one gets 23mpg and that’s if you don’t wined out the turbo then it gets less. That doesn’t seem like a lot better gas mileage to me.
Can somebody tell me why anyone would even consider spending 50,000 plus on a new Tacoma when you can get a low mileage 2021 Tundra in a top trim package such as 1794, platinum or even TRD pro, for the exact same money? Literally a bulletproof V8 powered half ton instead of these overcomplicated forced induction quarter tons with all these problems? Or if you really do want a quarter ton then get the old Tacoma like you said? It's mind-boggling. I can't wrap my head around it. There's literally no compelling reason to buy one of these at all
@marvingonzalez6345 terrifically shortsighted. Yeah that is true and the lifetime cost of gas is quickly absorbed in one major repair on the new Tacoma's.
2:50 that's the prob with people and pickups: they aren't supposed to be fast. Trucks are supposed to be built well and durable. They aren't supposed to have back massagers and atr's, not supposed to have touch screens and 3d cameras. They are supposed to be work horses.
True, but the fact is that probably 75% of the people that buy a truck seldom use it as a truck. They just want a big (safe?) vehicle that they don't feel cramped in, that gives them good visibility, and makes them feel "macho".
@@nephetula the "macho" bs has been beat to death. Time to give it up. Yes, a lot of people buy trucks because they are bigger, that's because no one makes big cars any more for large families and mini vans are useless in the snow. They have been marketed as such which is my point.
@@nephetula Actually all true. That's why I feel that if full-size automobiles, (full-size in the American sense, not the Japanese sense), were brought back, and restyled every 3 years, and were offered in coupes, hardtops, 2 door sedans, convertibles, and station wagons in addition to the standard 4 door sedan, truck sales, especially these new crew cabs with a 4 foot bed, would fall, as would the sales of SUVs. Witness how well the Chrysler 300 sold when it came out in 2005, and the Buick Roadmaster and Chevrolet Caprice in 1992 - they all sold like hotcakes, until GM stopped advertising them and discouraged their dealers from putting them in the showroom.
Hooray. Comfortable seats for when you are waiting for the tow truck. GIve me a break. There are no advantages when a vehicle is unreliable and does not run.

very few motors are actually failing but Toyota is voluntary offering to replace all 100k motors if owners want, its optional. Many people that have had no issues will elect not to do the recall right away and may wait for year until the truck has racked up a lot of miles before they get the recall completed.
@jeanclaude7018 because most of the time, half of the cylinders aren't firing. Cylinder cutout. Which I personally don't care for. But can be disabled.
I was a Toyota guy through and through. My 2018 Tundra was/is the last one I'll ever buy. My next vehicle will likely be a GM product. Makes me sick to even say that.
Get one with the 6.0L L96 non afm...that turd will beat this V6 TT to a pulp and you can take it across the Namib desert without worries....only thing you need is an extra gas tank.
GM is just as bad. The 2.7 L V6 turbo from Ford 2nd GEN is very reliable thus far. Unfortunately the costs are increasing dramatically on all vehicles. If you are a Toyota guy I would consider the new Nissan??? I think Toyota will turn this around in 25/26. Ford and GM are still making V6 and V8 engines, which I think is a good thing. COVID and the deteriorating Governments unfortunately had a huge negative impact on the world as we knew it and the effects will be felt for years to come. The vehicle industry need to not prioritize the Government rebates and do what they know best, rather than trying to push a square peg into a round hole!
I could have got the 24 Tacoma when I traded my 17 limited in. Instead I got a 23 off road. No way I’ll trust a turbo anything for reliability. Plus my truck was loaded for 44k. I’d be in the mid or upper 50’s for the 24.
I call B.S. I have always owned Tundras back since 2005 my current Tundra 2015 I bought new and I'm sitting just over 400,000 Miiles on it...zero issues. I get 19.2 miles per gallon on the highway 16.9 in the city......... Of course the new Tundras have low end torque why because of the turbo any forced air injection engine is going to give you lower end torque however again with any Force injection engine it will not last like a naturally aspirated will you can talk about all the pretty things that Toyota has done to the tundra and Tacoma but if the tranny don't work and the engine don't go it's just a paperweight
I have two second gen tundras in my driveway. There's not a chance in f****** hell that you were getting 16 in the city or 19 on the highway for that matter. My combined is about 12 and I've yet to see more than 16 on the highway. City is closer to 10. The trucks are awesome but how they get worse gas mileage than my 1997 GMC Sierra k2500 with the 5.7 L vortec is still a mystery to me. Although that truck did blow up at 110k miles ....
I have a 5.7 tundra with over 200k milea. While the engine is bulletproof and i love the truck, you do not get 16.9 miles city and 19.2 highway. Unless you only drive downhill!!
Do you have a Crewmax for some reason double cabs which mine is seem to get better gas mileage I have always run premium fuel on average I get 402 Mi to a tank
I get on average around 402 miles per tank I do run premium fuel only live in Colorado I went two Wisconsin a few months ago one way cost me in fuel $237, 1200 miles you do the math
I drive a 25 year old Toyota, my mom drives a 12 year old Toyota. Both run like a top, neither have a turbo. Other vehicles may get a little better gas mileage, but the only thing these car goes in for is oil changes.
“A lot better gas mileage”? Are you serious? If you consider 4 more MPG a LOT……. That economy is NOT worth the switch to a small displacement, less reliable engine… IMHO.
If you have a place to charge at home, EVs are the solution to gas mileage cost issues. Far less expensive than gas. And no need to go to gas stations anymore. I do not yet recommend EVs for trips or as rental cars.
Just bought a 2015 Tacoma TRD sport with 150K miles and love it and it runs and drives like new. Have an 07 FJ with 230K miles and zero issues. Will keep both of these as long as possible with the tried and true 1GR-FE…might be a little underpowered for some (I think it’s fine) and not very sexy but will go forever.
With Nissan Frontiers keeping the NA and reliable v6 + the simplicity that Tacoma owners loved, we might see the Frontier take up quite a few more sales in 2025.
The new Toyota four-cylinder is garbage ask the man who owned one. Truck is gone engine went 23,000 miles. Garbage trash Buy a Canyon With a five cylinder Chinese engine... On the other hand, don't do that either. They're all garbage
Toyota should bring the Hilux Champ. 1000kg load, very basic and plastic single cab barebone work truck, no fancy electronics, basic and reliable. A 2.0 or 2.7 gas engine, a 2.4 diesel, manual or automatic. Thailand price 13000 dollar U.K price 14000 pounds With bigger wheels and a liftkit you,re paying around or under 20000 dollar. They will crush the work truck market. Take the 2.4 diesel engine and you have the most reliable work truck, like the Toyota Landcruiser 70 series. Other brands should follow Toyota then, because the bedload is 1000KG. More than Ford F 150, Ram 1500 Chevy or Jeep.
sticking with my V6. Shame the Tacoma lost the suicide rear door on the access cab. I want a TRD Pro 6ft bed, access cab NOT 4 DOOR and not at 50k .... I'm not spending more than 45k for a fucking Tacoma.

Had to make a emergency run about 150 miles away last Saturday in my new Nissan Frontier. I never drive fast but had my reasons. 80 mph the entire way. The computer showed 27 mpg! Absolutely no advantage or reason for theses woke new engines.
Fellow Idaho'n here, I'm not giving up my 2023 trd sport for one of those nightmares. And don't think the dealer hasn't asked. We all knew there would be serious issues with such a drastic change. I believe you are right that Toyota will make it right for those who have had problems, but it's not good for Toyota's reputation to have these issues.
My 2018 Highlander is incredible. Enough power and the size gives a sense of safety and absolutely no engine or trans problems so mechanical safety is always a bonus. The RAV4 I used to own was also a really reliable and sturdy vehicle.
50 k for a truck is wild.....hard pass for 50k I could take a old 30 year old truck and built a show truck, or i could just buy several used trucks....... or i could spend 10k for a truck, then put 40k in savings....thinks about it, the car dealers are ripping you off, fyi turbos wear out. and gas engines with turbos will never see 200k before a major issue
Turbocharged is great for your zippy sports car. I would rather have a naturally aspirated reliable 6 cylinder Tacoma. I don’t think the turbo four will last anywhere near 100,000 miles.
This is why I went with a 2024 Frontier Pro-4X, V6, 4WD, No Turbo, very reliable, plenty of power to do whatever I want and all for about 12K less than a similarly equipped Tacoma! No brainer... I have owned both Toyotas as well as Nissan's in the past BTW.

The old engines had sufficient power.... The problem is the throttle is not linear to the gas pedal. If you change that with many after market modules you will feel the power immediately. I believe Toyota did this due to emissions ..
I grabbed a very well equipped 2023 TRD Sport Tacoma last December when I could get a deal. Not the biggest cargo or towing capacity but it should last! Probably can sell it right now for a nice little profit, but I won't. Honestly I don't care for any of the technology stuff except the back up camera. Going to add some SuperSprings to fix the no bump stops issue. They put them in the rear shocks and not doing it for me.

I was so looing to trade in my first gen ford ecoboost f150 for a new Tundra with a tried and true 5.7.. then they went and droped a 3.5 v6 in it..sadly wont be buying one now
Not trying to say anything bad about Nissan other than their truck marketing not good. But thanks to Toyota fails has brought Nissan back into the spotlight. Maybe they should keep the Titan just a few more years while Toyota fixes all the issues the Tundra is giving them. Let's thank Nissan for keeping their trucks naturally aspirated. So far.
All things considered and 12k miles…I’m very happy with my loaded 2024 Pro4X. My neighbor picked up a 24 TRD OR about a month after I got mine and I prefer the Nissan. More options, less money and looks like a truck not a toy!
The styling is awful and it's ballooned in size. Worse ground clearance and interior space too. The exact same problems that affected the new Tundra based on the same platform.
Number of times my 2nd gen tacoma needed more speed=0 Number of engine/transmission engine issue=0 Number of people that want to buy it when I get gas, everyone.
Ok, 2 things. 1)Toyota had a reputation for reliability and ease of maintenance. They both got thrown out the window. Shame on you Toyota. 2) Those Brunt work shoes dont have any tread worth speaking of. Non slip tread will only get you so far without deeply lugged soles. Comfort out of the box means they will wear out sooner than you want them to and if recent prices are any indication, they are too expensive for what you get.

@@Luckingsworththey feel very sluggish to promote fuel efficiency but when you have it in tow and ask for torque itll shift way past its torque limit. The truck feels very fast with a 3.92 and that beautiful 5.7 note.
My 06 SR5 4.7 Tundra with 197k miles runs perfect. I would never buy a new Toyota truck.
The 4.7 in my 04 GX470 at 410k, same detail.

Make me a base model truck with 1998 tech plz. I hate these new vehicles.
This truck sounds like total ass
theyre the same truck dummy japans are no different 🤦🏽♂️
Amen!
I agree 100%
The Demorats screwed this up. All these rules on EV are strangling the auto makers.
I totally 2nd that!👍🏼
I mean it's the first iteration on the new engine I bet in 2 or 3 years they will have these things dialed in. That does not excuse manufacturers from pumping out crap. And on trubo motors not being good in the long run is silly, look at some turbo disels going 400k to 500k with normal maintnece.
You can thank the EPA and their outdated and unrealistic fuel standards for all of the tubo engines
They did screw up, that being said they're still better than most of the others....
@ that’s true, just the truck segment is disappointing.
Here I am sipping coffee on my 06 Toyota Tacoma v6 4.0 4x4 with 324k miles. Sounds like Toyota is following every other brands steps. Shitty quality and high prices 😢
I just bought a 2006 tacoma from its second owner. Never had a Toyota truck before. Hoping I got a good truck.
@@territuttle-flynn1585 you won’t be disappointed. Just keep up with maintenance 😌
Keep it.
Wish we could buy those here.
Yeah they let us eat shit in the US. 😂
Does yours have dPF and def? Extra care is needed then because those can become issues if it is abused....
So is the Ridgeline...
As a Toyota employee I am embarrassed that this is the product we are delivering to our customers. As an employee I have no control of what we build, but this is embarrassing to say the.
It’s not your fault man those damn ceos have lost it why have they made such drastic changes any ideas?
As a fellow Toyota employee I agree. I take pride in knowing we have always built top quality products. And all of these issues/negative feedback is hard to swallow
The cab has to be removed to replace the defective Tundra engines. That means a dealer is going to have to take apart all the dashboard connectors and who knows what else and then reassemble the entire cab systems. And this is going to be done in a dealer's shop by who knows how skilled the mechanics are. Problems may not show up while under warranty. I've heard no one is taking them in trade, even Toyota dealers are avoiding them.
Not only that, it means you can't do it yourself unless you own your own shop.
Exactly my thought!

I also have a 24 grand highlander. Once I plug my phone in, I don't use the navigation anyway
@thetruthyes enjoy that cvt taking a dump right when the warranty runs out on the Mazda
There's literally no compelling reason to buy one of these at all
Mpgs tundra only makes 13 mph
@marvingonzalez6345 terrifically shortsighted. Yeah that is true and the lifetime cost of gas is quickly absorbed in one major repair on the new Tacoma's.
The whole point of a smaller pickup is economy. This truck is NOT economical.
I wouldn't give plug nickel for a hybrid or ev. Just like the others, Toyota is increasing the price and decreasing the quality.
Hybrids are great! Just look for a Honda
2:50 that's the prob with people and pickups: they aren't supposed to be fast. Trucks are supposed to be built well and durable. They aren't supposed to have back massagers and atr's, not supposed to have touch screens and 3d cameras. They are supposed to be work horses.
FACTS.

@@medmark yeah, we Toyota owners wish it was that easy but it’s not😂

@jeanclaude7018 because most of the time, half of the cylinders aren't firing. Cylinder cutout. Which I personally don't care for. But can be disabled.
Nissan has been building reliable twin turbo v6 since 1990, this shows that toyopoop is 35 years behind in technology
I was a Toyota guy through and through. My 2018 Tundra was/is the last one I'll ever buy. My next vehicle will likely be a GM product. Makes me sick to even say that.
How about the Ford with the Coyote V8?
Same, and you hate to see it.
Ford recalls make me sick....
Nissan Frontier Pro 4X I’m gonna buy one give them a chance
I could have got the 24 Tacoma when I traded my 17 limited in. Instead I got a 23 off road. No way I’ll trust a turbo anything for reliability. Plus my truck was loaded for 44k. I’d be in the mid or upper 50’s for the 24.
Turbo charged 4 cylinder plus a 4,500lb vehicles just does not compute
Nissan Frontier over the new Tacoma any day. Keep that overpriced turbo garbage.
Direct injection with no port injection on that Frontier. You better add an oil catch can to it, and hope the intake valves don't get all carboned up.
Every truck manufacturer is turbo charging
I have a 2007,5.7L Tundra 8ft box 4 door SR5,best mileage is about 13mpg,12.6 pulling a 16.5 Alumacraft boat.
Nobody cares, Toyota sucks now
Better gas mileage?
Don’t be a sucker.
That’s only true if you drive like grandma.
They need to go back to that v8 and v6
Or at least provide them as an option for the next few years.
They won't because of GVT emissions... sadly.
Or, a simple cure would be the Lexus 5.0L V8 from the LC into the Tundra as a hybrid producing 410 hp....that alone will make it more reliable.
Maybe they should focus on the quality of their cars/trucks and less on gay pride parades.
Between EPA and Everything Gay the company is dying in North America
Agreed. Leave that for Subaru
YES!!!
Not to mention the work shifting to Mexico.
What? ….That was stupid…
“A lot better gas mileage”? Are you serious? If you consider 4 more MPG a LOT……. That economy is NOT worth the switch to a small displacement, less reliable engine… IMHO.
IKR the OR is only 1 mpg better than the 3rd Gen.
4 MPG out of 17 MPG is over 23% improvement, that's a lot yes
If you have a place to charge at home, EVs are the solution to gas mileage cost issues. Far less expensive than gas. And no need to go to gas stations anymore.
I do not yet recommend EVs for trips or as rental cars.
@Michael-pi8ps maybe…
It will be interesting to see if Nissan takes the crown of best selling midsize truck. Also frontier is cheaper which fleets will love.
If a person driving a new Tacoma and the transmission fails in traffic. That driver will get rear ended.
Toyota screwed themselves by doing away with the V6. They lost my purchase. Getting a new Frontier instead.
The new Toyota four-cylinder is garbage ask the man who owned one. Truck is gone engine went 23,000 miles. Garbage trash

Because only a fool would buy a Toyota pickup now.
Loyalists who deny their issues...
what good is better gas mileage when you lose all those saving and MORE when you have to repair the turbo motor. its false economy
Toyota should bring the Hilux Champ.
1000kg load, very basic and plastic single cab barebone work truck, no fancy electronics, basic and reliable.
A 2.0 or 2.7 gas engine, a 2.4 diesel, manual or automatic.
Thailand price 13000 dollar
U.K price 14000 pounds
With bigger wheels and a liftkit you,re paying around or under 20000 dollar.

In retrospect should have grabbed a loaded SR5 with a regular key start. Love the manual parking brake handle.

Lets not talk about the Stop sell on the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX series vehicles! Toyota has failed everyone.
Have a brand new 2024 Toyota Tacoma, my first and after 4K miles no problems at all, rides smooth. My only complaint is the lack of bump stops but I am not an off roader but a city driver. Going to add some SuperSprings to fix the no bump stops issue. They put them in the rear shocks and not doing it for me.
It’s a truck, not a Supra… why are we talking about sports car type performance? People need to adjust their expectations for what they bought…
Thank you my friend... You have 3 or 4 companies in the inflation bubble and other companies knew this and lowered the price and some companies should pay attention and not continue in this bubble

Haha.. thought the same!
That screen looks out of place. If the engine or tranny has problems who cares about what the inside looks like. The outside is still horrible looking.
The styling is awful and it's ballooned in size. Worse ground clearance and interior space too. The exact same problems that affected the new Tundra based on the same platform.
Just gonna keep my paid off 2019 Tacoma. At 112,000 miles, it’s been flawless.

The D41 Nissan Frontier with 3.8L V6 is the best decision I've made. Love my Pro4X. 25 mpg highway @70_75 mph or less.
My first gen 4.7L still kicking. No need all those BS computers.
This is what happens when Toyota trying to make "new" products. All they did was using old proven technolgy and only updating it for 15, 20 plus years. Therefore, they were "reliable" Now they have develope new tech like most others and see what happens. Toyota wasnt way better then others they just been doing dont fix it if it aint broke for really long time.

I love sketchers because they are so comfortable easy to slip on and off.

Toyota is now considered junk and the Dealerships are viewed as thieves. What a combination. The reliability is GONE.
