- Take a look behind the scenes and find out what a live dog photography photo session looks like. In this video, I explain my thought process as the shots develop and we explore Haigh Hall with 4-month-old Golden Retriever puppy Stitch. Spoiler alert: he is irresistibly cute!
You are going to be seeing more in-depth vlog-style content like this around here In the coming months. I know you guys love watching behind-the-scenes on my Instagram stories, so I made a new years resolution to create a new vlog every month for RUclips. I hope this gives you a more personal and in-depth look at what goes on behind the scenes at CatsDog Photography.
I'd love to know what you think!

Ah hello, again Patrick! That's cool to know you found me via Spider Holster's mailout. Thanks for letting me know. I'm obsessed with that bit of kit. You will never see me shooting without it (at least not intentionally!)
Awesome video!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching :)
Love behind the scenes. Still trying to recruit my husband to be my assistant 😂
Thanks for watching - how's that recruitment going? XD
This was wonderful I'm headed to an event to shoot dogs in action and likely will have a few private sessions. I was panicking a bit about "what do I shoot" until I watched your video. Yay fellow Canon shooter!
Great to hear this helped Barbara. I have more live client shoots planned to share with you in the coming months. In fact, the next one is about some client sessions we recently did up in the Lake District - keep your eyes peeled for that! I own a Canon, Sony AND a Nikon now - call me a collector haha!
If you share shutter speed and F level information, it will be helpful.🥺
Great video, thanks! Very cute pup. Just wondering, what lens are you using for the close up shots? Is it a 35mm?
Near enough - a 16-35mm, though the Canon 35 1.4 is a solid fave lens of mine.
Hello! The wide-angle photos are taken on my 16-35mm, though I did also take some shots in this video on my 35mm 1.4 prime - a GORGEOUS lens!
What a very nice and instructive video, thx! For outdoor flashes, what do you recommend?
Hey, thank you very much I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :-) I use a Profoto B2 mostly, but we also have speedlites and Ice lights are brilliant alternatives to strobes too.
@@CatsDogPhotography I only shoot prime....is 24mm aso a good wide angled alternative?
@@jurgenvanhest9913 Absoloutely! 24mm is a great focal length - pushing the wide side but avoiding too much distortion, one of the reasons I like the 35mm so much.
@@jurgenvanhest9913 Absolutely, a lot of my wider shots are around 20mm and primes and a quality you can simply not compete with, so yes, use that 24mm beauty for your wider shots for sure. :)
Do you have any other live shoots?
Yes! A new one is going to be posted with Milkshake the Pug in the new year - watch this space!!!
How often do you find yourself using your off camera flash?
I'd say 30-40% of the time on a normal session, depending on the conditions & location.
what was the first lens? and settings?
The first lens was the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 USM II. Settings = 500/s F/2.8 ISO 640
Is that a wig your wearing?
Haha no I'm not wearing a wig XD but I do change my hair a lot.
