    I used to play a lot of chess when I was little with my grandparent (may he rest in peace), when I moved to another country I kept playing Ina club for 3 more years.
    Then I suddenly stopped.
    Now, 10 years later I started to play again, with my roommates and I got caught again by this game.
    Also, I'm a historian, so explaining battles from ancient times with chess pieces is just, 10 out of 10.

      You don't have to see the lines, you just need to see if it's winning!! Last week I had a game where I was down a piece, I "blundered" a piece, but it was actually M1 when he captured my "blundered" piece (I missed the M1 because the position was so packed in the middle and I thought I just blundered a piece lol while in fact my opponent shouldn't have taken that piece :/ ) anyway, when I was down a piece, I went to sacrifice my rook as well lol my opponent had a queen, 1 horsey and 2 rooks! But his position required him to give the queen for a pawn to avoid checkmate lol and I won that game after I went for M6 instead of M2 that I missed ;_; (again duh) well then again often times I go for fancier checkmates rather than the normal ones... Hmmm

      @@amoldivo -- Yes. We were learning to play chess, so we often played against each other. He was absurdly aggressive: Sometimes he would open by attacking me with his queen; then I'd trap and capture his queen. Other times, he'd make sacrifices that would fail. He was so determined to attack that he often forgot to castle -- with disastrous consequences. Finally he became frustrated, so he attacked me with a wall of pawns. I sacrificed a pawn to open a hole in his wall of pawns and then my pieces poured into his position behind his "wall". Most of his pieces were still sitting on their original squares and they were not protected. It was a slaughter.

      2. lFXJWPhDsSY, chess engine wins aginst other chess engine by trapping the queen.

      A lot of the downvotes probably come from idiots who object to the title, even though it's scrupulously exact as far as any experienced chess player would refer to "sacrificing all one's pieces" (i.e. not pawns, which are not pieces, and not the king, which is an impossibility).

    Wow.. I just found your channel. I love it. I've been playing chess for 17 years. My best chess match ever ended with my opponent (black) opening a pawn 2 squares, which allowed me to do "Pawn en passant" resulting in my Queen opening up for a discovery Check mate. It was absolutely beautiful.

    It's funny how you seemed to be a little bit down at the beginning of the video but then started to get excited as the game went on.
    I don't know what you had been going through back then or maybe if you had just woke up and still was kind of sleepy, if you still had an ordinary job which you didn't like that much or whatever, but it's nice to see in other people how better we can feel about ourselves when we do the things we love.

    this may be a stupid question but he repeated the move to reach time control...what is time control?

    • @slowrnd
      @slowrnd 7 лет назад +371

      after 40th move players get extra time on the clock.

    • @Ulkomaalainen
      @Ulkomaalainen 7 лет назад +558

      More to the point, in chess you have limited time for your moves. While details differ, the main idea is this: you get 2 hours to think about your first 40 moves, another hour for the next 20, half an hour for the rest.
      Quite commonly, a player needs a lot of time in midgame for some complicated position or trying to calculate whether some sacrifice would work. Which means they are incredibly short on time, say 3 minutes left after the 32nd move - 8 moves left until 40 - or something like that. So you cannot really calculate a lot of stuff anymore. But if you somehow manage to make these 8 moves, you'll get another hour, allowing for another deep think.
      This is where you look, especially if in a better position, for some repetitions to pass moves without losing much time.

  • @dgontar

    That last move Be3+ goes to show you that you really have to keep your wits about you even after gaining a huge advantage either materially or positionally or both, you must thoroughly and with complete certainty secure a win when winning. Surprises like that happen in chess more often than you think, especially at higher levels.

    I feel like White didn't actually sacrifice the knight on f2, since it was just an exchange of knight for knight at that point. Just to be pedantic. Not to say it wasn't an amazing game worth watching twice!
