Nobody watches your channel to “just see the moves.” We watch for your extra trivia and commentary. Anyone could cover the moves, but you’re the reason we watch these videos! Forget the people who don’t like it, the extra stuff is the heart and soul of your channel, and nobody wishes to see it changed!
You got it right. There are dozens of channels out there which cover just the moves. They have much lower view/subscriber stats. There's also a variety of websites with PGN databases where you can review "just the moves"
The truth lies somewhere in between. Firstly I absolutely dont wish to see "just the moves". Or i would go to some database. On the other hand I also dont want to see infinite rambling about things which may not be very related to the game/etc.
My father loved Tal. We discovered your channel during Covid times and it turned out to be a topic of conversation every single day. He in India and me in the US sharing games during our conversation and moves on WhatsApp. He particularly enjoyed the Tal and Fisher sagas. I lost him last year. How I wish he got to enjoy this lost masterpiece. Thank you for the trivia and stories. Context is everything and you are a wonderful storyteller.
Who's not interested in a little backstory ? I love it when you there's something about the game, a little context about the players, an old photo of the game or the tournament.
irrelevant, silly and childish. Do people now really consider films a reality??!! ok for children of course then we should outgrow, develop, maybe into real culture
I’m interested as well. Imagine if Netflix’s *queens gambit* was a real story. People want to see the background of great players. I’d love to see something like that on Tal
The craziest part for me is how Tal is seemingly hanging pieces left and right, with only his attacking initiative on the enemy King sparing him the loss of more material. He cleverly unwinds his hung pieces with tempo as he balances defending his own king while keeping the pressure on his opponent. Then when the smoke clears in the endgame he's up a meager pawn somehow, as if this was all precisely calculated to give him a slight, albeit winning, advantage.
And my favourite part of all of that: Those are always sacrifices like here that the opponent has to accept. Imagine being forced to take pieces while knowing "this is Tal, I know it's trap" three times in a row ...
And people forget that Tal or infact anyone from Russian school of chess were endgame monsters. People remember him for his attacks but alot of those attacks leads to better endgame which tal used to grind
No, the crazy part is Tal pulling this stunt on his own mentor and still winning! Those are some seriously slick moves!!😛 Maybe this wasn't meant to be played for Tal's birthday, but was intended as a gift to Agad for some special occasion. Was it truly "just by chance" a random friend got to see that movie and mentions it to him, and it turns out to be the match Agad's been looking for for so long?
I watch every video you post. Not once am I clicking the video for the moves. I watch your videos for the love you put into it, the history you share, and the environment you create. We all love your channel for you, not the moves.
Thank you, for me it was an amazing game. The intro was well worth it too. The hapstance of the unlikely source, an unrelated recent movie, that Tal was both his own and his tutors achievement, and a record at that, and ofc any game with such a wild sacrifice is enough for anyone to fall in love afresh with chess.
I also dont like the backstories, but i just skip ahead instead of complaining because i know others like the backstories. Keep the great work going, Antonio
Had Tal taken care of his health & was a bit disciplined then he would be impossible to beat !! Even GMs today cannot comprehend his sacrifices!! Truly a Legend & my favourite Chess player of all time !! Thanks a lot for all the Tal content
I honestly think that Tal's medical problems were beyond what medical science had to offer at the time, and particularly in the Soviet Union. For example, I had ulcerative colitis in the 1970s. We now know it's an autoimmune disease, but at the time, nobody had even heard of autoimmune diseases. Nobody knew what caused UC. I asked, and the doctors would just shrug and say "maybe a virus." Now I'm really glad that science has progressed, and today's UC (and Crohn's) patients have options I never had, but I would take issue with anyone who said that the reason I haven't had a large intestine for 45+ years is because I wasn't taking care of myself. Not only did I not know what was really going on, but the new immunosuppresive drugs that target IBD hadn't been invented either. Your thoughts about Tal's brilliance are spot-on. He was a legend in so many ways. I once heard about this one time where he was picked up and thrown in the local drunk tank overnight in the middle of a tournament, after the first day's 40-move round. When they realized it was Tal they picked up, and they were Russian (i.e. all chess players), and his tournament status, the story goes that his very jailers stayed up all night with him, analyzing his position! This is what I call stone-cold hero stuff.
@@aronuchukwuezugo615 Well, Tal played before there were computers. He did what everybody did in his time. His main tactic was to move away from established lines quickly, and complicate the position, and look across the table and metaphorically say, "in the next five hours I'm going to crush you with my raw chess-playing skill" and he usually did, until his health problems got him. I'd also like to mention, since he was still around was I was younger, that Tal was beloved by the entire chess-playing world, not just in the Soviet Union. I'm sitting here in the USA and the Cold War is swirling around me, and everybody still loved Tal. Americans no exception.
This is one of your best recordings ever. Please never ever “just show the moves”. Your analysis and light discussion + history is what makes your channel my favourite chess channel. Period! By the way, you tried something new this video that I really really enjoyed. The quick recap was delightful. So many times I needed to go back to remember the moves that got things to the critical moment. Being able to listen as you quickly review the game is an excellent addition. More please! ❤
New camera, old camera, any camera… it’s always a good reason to show a new Tal game! Thank you for all the work you have put in over the years-with all the enthusiasm and sincerity you have-for the chess community ✨💪🏼
The game is meaningless without context or the situation in which it is played! We absolutely love your insights setting the backdrop of the game. If I just had to see the moves, I wouldn't have come to a RUclips channel! I appreciate you taking a deep dive into history to create an interest amongst your audience
Bro, your enthusiasm for chess and all of it's greatness is what makes your channel so much better than everyone else's! You are my favorite streamer. Watching your channel for just the moves is a blunder!
The attacker knows his attack can be refuted..He has to gamble but at the same time he couldn't show his hesitation on the moves he makes...Tal had great psychological influence over the board....
The stories and the context of the games is what got me interested in your channel in the first place.in fact your stories are one of the reasons I got interested in chess again. I hope you never change that!
We all watch your videos to enjoy the content and the commentary. Those who say they only want to watch the moves are missing out on the heart and soul of this channel. And none of them will ever know why B4 is the strongest move in any position. Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing great.
And it is games like this that gave Misha his nickname of Magician of Riga. Thanks for sharing! I've been a Tal fan since the 60s and had not seen this game either.
This game reminds me of the games I play these days, where it starts with theory and then evolves into a complex middle game with amazing attack and defending ideas, the top engine moved being found again and again, followed by a win as a result of being a pawn up while having a better position. And then I woke up.
A wonderful find! Thank you & thank you for locating this golden oldie which reminds me how chess used to be played in a pre-computer prep world. Oh, how I miss Tal, Petrosian, Spassky, etc., but most of all, Bobby Fischer! Great post! Bravo!!
The people just wanting the moves have the ability to look up the moves themselves. I have been watching you since ~2017 - 2018 and absolutely love the back story and trivia bits you put in. Don’t change for those people.
I've also been looking for a Tal game that i actually saw in THIS CHANNEL! I think it was some 2-4 years ago, I only remember that Tal played a very strange opening in a fast game against someone and the guy said: "Of course you used it in a fast game. I'd like to see you try in a classical". And so, once they played again, Tal used that same strange opening and won the game as well. It was something in the queen's side. In the middle game, Tal sacrificed Queen for only a rook ( not even any minor piece), Smyslov gave back queen soon. Then came the endgame where Tal methodically converted bishop pawns vs knight pawns endgame. It would be a treat to everyone.

It’s the way you create unique and interesting content around “just the moves” that makes your channel exceptional. Don’t lose sleep over anyone who requested such a nonsense. Thank you for this game Agadmator. Tal was really one of the best players ever because of his imagination. He was the only one who was able to become the world champion with that risky kind of play.
Hello agad your introduction to the games are most important as it really portays under what circumstances the players are playing. Whoever watches ur channel only for moves must be chess master and you'll be knowing the percentage of masters among ur subscribers.
I'm sure Suren is proud of you. A game I've looked for is where Anand played Carlsen years ago (not recent). Anand played the W pieces. After a few moves in the opening, Carlsen made a move with his bishop to protect a piece, and from there Anand forced every move by pushing his pawn up the B or C file. The pawn could not be taken. It was an amazing game but when I search I can't find it.
I agree about the language. It's not many Englishmen, Americans, Swedes, and so on that speak English so clear and correct. He is ofcourse interesting to watch because his ways and knowledge about chess.
Much like the best sports analysis it's not just about the sport, its about the analyst themselves as well. There are numerous channels on RUclips that cover chess. We come here for chess covered by you, and the stories and context that you give us are integral to your channel's identity. A Nick Cage movie using THAT GAME is just ridiculous.
Nick Cage should have played Bobby Fischer in Pawn Sacrifice.
American artist playing russian game
I'd rather have a Nick Cave song with that name
Seriously though, wtf?! haha
Tal sacrifices one queen to sacrifice two more queens and still wins the game.

After a few moves in the opening, Carlsen made a move with his bishop to protect a piece, and from there Anand forced every move by pushing his pawn up the B or C file. The pawn could not be taken. It was an amazing game but when I search I can't find it.
Thanks for taking the trouble to find and analyse another great Tal game.
I agree about the language. It's not many Englishmen, Americans, Swedes, and so on that speak English so clear and correct.
He is ofcourse interesting to watch because his ways and knowledge about chess.
Yes a gem and way beyond most chess players.
It was quite surprising that I had not found this game in your channel, after having watched it on another channel. At last we have it.
The Tal - Koblents game is included in the Big Database 2024. Tal also included the game in his book: "The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal"
if i'm just looking for the game, i can read a book or something.
i come here MOSTLY for your commentary.
I LOVE THE STORIES; KEEP THEM COMING TONI!
Much like the best sports analysis it's not just about the sport, its about the analyst themselves as well. There are numerous channels on RUclips that cover chess. We come here for chess covered by you, and the stories and context that you give us are integral to your channel's identity. Dont change a thing, keep giving us the goods (and leave a timestamp for the impatient as you already do). Cheers
