My parakeet was rescued from a bird hoarding situation where the lady had over 300 birds and none of them were taken care of well. He was kept in a tiny cage with no mental stimulation. When I first got him if you even went near his cage he would freak out because he hadn’t been handled at all. He’s happy now in a big cage and he gets to fly around my room while being supervised. He’s extremely tame and gives kisses and likes to sit with my dog because I know my dog won’t hurt him and they cuddle and it’s really cute. When I got him he came with his cage but that’s only used as a carrying cage if I need to bring him somewhere like my friend’s house (I bring him there when I go on vacation so he can get attention while I’m gone and she has a cockatiel that he likes to visit) it’s sad that anyone can treat any animal like that and not see a problem. I have many pets that are rescues everything from horses to chickens and cats and many other animals. My bird also likes to say hi to my fish and my fish will follow him along the glass but his personality has really shown through now that he’s comfortable and happy.
These birds know what's going on. They are so smart. It's devastating that they had to live like that. When one of them said "are you ok" I just melted. All they want is love. And some monster wouldn't give that to them that.
Thank you to HSUS personnel for their kind and effective rescue effort. This is an absolutely sickening site and it's important to educate everyone on the responsibilities of Parrot companionship. These are highly intelligent, social creatures who deserve our respect. I highly agree there needs to be some type of accreditation for parrot breeding and boarding (and ownership if it were up to me.)

I have birds - I've had birds half of my life...To see them like this breaks my heart. Why didn't someone know? Why didn't someone come to their rescue? I have an African grey who is very old. I've only had her for a year. The story goes that she was left at home alone for weeks on end, and became a plucker. She mutilated herself so badly that the feathers will never grow back. She is beautiful and smart and very funny. I thank every day that the sun rises and my birds are happy.

Hmm, claim to love birds but happened to get shut down for abuse and neglect. Keeping dead parrots in a freezer, neglecting medical care, filthy conditions, and absolutely the rudest lady i have ever had to deal with. Sure does make my job worth awhile saving these beautiful animals. Deborah is a animal hoarder and should be getting treatment for her mental illness and seeing dead & live rats, 8,000+ roaches, and decaying birds that seemed to have escaped and went unseen in the back. Over 95% of the birds seized tested positive for PDD due to Bornavirus. She now is restarting her hoarding all over again after the 5 month long legal war. She can't even care for herself, what makes others think she can care for another living creature?

Hoarding is a mental disorder. Their brains don't work right. Removing the hoard ( treating the symptom ) doesn't really do anything to help the problem, treat the person (deal with the disease )

this was just hard to watch😢 birds are EXTREMLY intelligiant. i should know, i live with a small family of zebra finches and they love their young♡ they live in a large cage but i let them fly around my room for a few hours every day, those poor babies😭
I rescued a cockatiel which had plucked his neck feathers due to stress. Once I made him comfortable his feathers grew back and he is awesome. Every day at 7:30 he gives me a signal to remove the sheet and open his cage door. I go and do that and he is out till he it is 8pm then he goes to sleep. My livingroom is his play area❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂

Depresticles PETA does do rescues, they just don't do large ones like this. It also depends greatly on the urgency of the problem. This was pretty urgent but it was a larger rescue. Enjoy your animal corpses.
