- President Obama says both Israelis and Palestinians want peace after worshippers at a synagogue in Jerusalem are brutally murder in an axe attack.
US President Barack Obama strongly condemned Tuesday's attack at a synagogue in Israel that killed four people, including three US citizens.
Mr Obama said there could be no justification for the "brutal" attacks in which three American citizens were murdered.
"We know that two attackers senselessly and brutally attacked innocent worshippers in a synagogue during their morning prayers.
"Obviously, we condemn in the strongest terms these attacks. A number of people were wounded and four people were killed including three American citizens," said the US President.
Obama urged both Israeli and Palestinian leaders and ordinary citizens to work cooperatively to lower tensions, reject violence and seek a path forward towards peace.
The attack is the deadliest in Jerusalem in years and is bound to heighten fears of sustained violence in the city, already on edge amid soaring tensions over a contested holy site.
