- The Legion 5 Pro and the Legion 7 we reviewed last year delivered an impressive 16" gaming experience.
With the all-new Legion Pro 7i, Lenovo aims to do the same again for 2023, and with the updated Intel Raptor-Lake i9-13900HX and NVIDIA RTX 4080, they are on an excellent track.

Picked this up with a 4090, 2TB, and 32GB of Ram at $2,450+tax!
Just bought this today! Can’t wait for it to come.
Awesome! Have fun with your new laptop!
Hi! Love your works! Especially the plug into external display information on gaming,
Just one thing, did you have the lids off temperature in different profile? Does lid close actually has worst temperature? Haha cause i am actually going to dock it vertically.
Thanks for the feedback!
Unfortunately, we didn't test that.
Great review! Really impressed by the specs/performance too.
It seems in most cases 4080/4090 have very little difference. Anyway, really waiting for the Zephyrous Duo 2023 review too!
Well, the 4090 is quite a bit faster, especially when you go 4K, but it is also much more expensive. The 4080 is the sweet spot when you want to spend that much.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Hello. Is the 4K vs 1440p difference noticeable on a laptop?
I have this laptop with the RTX 4080 and I love it. I keep it in Quiet mode where it runs silently, yet still has enough horsepower to run all my games at 60 FPS+. That includes AAA titles such as Marvel's Spider-Man, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Diablo 4. Fan noise in Performance and Balanced modes are too noisy for me. Yes, battery life is terrible, but I have a thinner and lighter MacBook Air M2 for using out and about (not gaming).
Everyone’s thoughts on the fan noise with these legions are all over the place. Is it safe to say the blade 16 would be the best pick for someone who wanted a 40 series 2023 laptop and very little fan noise?
I just need a machine that can run relatively quiet in balanced/standard mode. I won’t need to utilize any of the performance revved up modes for the games I play!
Thank you for this review. Its because of this I finalized my purchase of the Legion 7i Pro and so far I am having an amazing time with it. Though I am still getting used to the the German keyboard XD. I bought the laptop directly from Lenovo Germany this month during Black Friday for 2.500 Euros.
I just got it in the studio again for another video, and it's still so good!
And the price you got it for is really quite a steal!
between legion pro 7i and asus strix g18 [both 4080, intel] which one is build better, which ones display is better, and overall which one look premium and hold greater value over time? need your opinion on these, and anyone else who have used both, please do give you input. i need to decide quick. thanks
Besides the superior resolution and refresh rate, how does the display compare to the Dell XPS 9530 with FHD+? I'm currently considering swapping and I'm on the fence only because I'm not a "professional" gamer and enjoy the contrast on my Dell. I hear the color gamut of the Legion isn't as good and everyone seems to complain about the contrast (i.e., lots of blooming and grey blacks). I'm not looking for OLED or Mini-LED results; I have a 16" M1 Pro. I'm just wanting a little upgrade on the display side on a Windows pc.
Ordered this and should have it in a few days - your review convinced me :) I was debating between this and an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR with the AMD chip, but the $400 savings and solid build quality sold me.
Well then I hope you will not be disappointed! :)
If I go with 7i - i7 12800HX 16C 24T RTX 3070ti 8GB GDDR6 TGP 150W, would it be a powerful workstation laptop that can handle demanding motion graphics, 3D works and 4K video editing?
Came across your video as I am debating between Legion 7i and Alienware x16. I really love the look of Alienware, but the keyboard of the Lenovo brand is the best. It seems Legion 7i offers a better CPU. So, I will likely choose it. Thanks for sharing your review.
Off topic, but I love your wall paint color!
Thank you for the kind words! We have yet to test the new Alienware machines! The Legions are amazing tho!
Which website can I buy that can have discounted versions of this?
idk if i should get this or the hp omen 16 4070 i plan on gaming and have it as a travel laptop when i need to edit on premiere and after effects
Hoping to get my Legion Pro 7 (13900HX/4080, 32/2 TB, W11 Pro) soon!
Zephyrus Duo 16 review coming soon?
Interested to see how the 7945HX in the Duo 16 and others like the Scar 17 hold up against the i9 139-- HX laptops!
Congrats, it is an amazing machine. Yes, I hope I can publish the full duo review next week. And I will get the G17 in for a review as well!
@@NotebookcheckReviews Good to hear!
Wait, how are you getting this laptop!? Western Europe (including the UK) and the America's aren't getting it, so I thought it was an Asia exclusive!
@@cameronbosch1213 7945HX Legion Pro 7, yes.
13900HX Pro 7i, the one I'm getting, no.
I plan on getting the exact same model (except the W11 Pro). How is it? I’m putting all of my saved money into it so I want to make sure it’s 100% worth it. Upgrading from a 1050 so i’m sure the difference will be astronomical anyway.
Does the display with VESA Certified HDR or not?
Considering of buying this beast this month. How about the upgrade of the SSD ? What is the maximum capacity that it can take per slot ?
Unfortunately, we can not comment on it, since we haven't been able to open ours ...
It was a loan from a shop; the bottom plate was difficult to remove, and we didn't want to break it.
Hey, awesome review. Just a question: would I be able to use that Thunderbolt 4 port with a DP 1.4 to USB-C cable (not adapter) for high refresh rate 1440p monitors? Considering at least a 240 hz monitor, maybe up to 300 (a specific ROG monitor) Thanks!
That shouldn't be a problem since thunderbolt carries a regular DisplayPort Signal. And in the end, you always have the second USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 in the back!
@@NotebookcheckReviews thanks for the reply! This is definitely a top candidate for a gaming laptop for me and your comment and review have helped a lot with that.
Sold out in Canada, but I think this is the one. (once it's in stock). It's like $2k cheaper than the 3080ti version here even though the 4080 destroys it!
Was looking at the 17h because it's the cheapest 4080... but I figured if I'm going to sell a kidney I might as well get something that doesn't make compromises .
The 17H?
@@NotebookcheckReviews The Aorus 17h. It's $2999 here and $2399 in the US I think? But the build is cheap, it's gigantic and the screen is only 1080p.
Is it possible to customize Quiet, Balanced and Performance modes? Like to limit the CPU and GPU tdp or clock speed differently for each mode? Or can you only customize the “Custom” mode?
Just double-checked, and can confirm you can only customize custom-mode.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Thank you for the swift reply! That's unfortunate. At least there's one custom mode...
Maybe the 4060!!
Bought one a couple days ago and its been amazing thus far. Microcenter by far has the best deals on these atm, especially if you can combine their cc discount and/or get an open box return (if that's your thing).
Ended up installing a 2tb 980 Pro in mine, so total (with new ssd) before taxes for a new (so not open box) was $2800 for a i9-13900, 4090, 3tb gen 4 980 (even the factory stuff was a samsung 980 1tb), 32gb 5600mhz. You just can't beat that right now.
That is a pretty solid deal. I am also testing the 4090 SKU right now, and have been daily driving it for a few weeks now for our video production! Amazing machine for sure!
impossible to get such prices here, it's 3200 for the 4080, but it does include 4 year legion on site
@@Cenot4ph Yeah, that's pretty crazy high. I actually think the $2,800 for the 4080 is still a good price for what it is, and the 4090 for that just mind-blowing. That said, I would hold off until I can get one at a discount one day.
It's been weeks now though and I still absolutely love it. Still has the brand new feel mind you, but I normally have at least some buyers regret at this point, and so far I'm holding strong!
@@Hokie2k11I'm in Asia, there's not much of a choice really

🫣 let’s keep that between us ok? Nobody needs to know!
Hey i have been torn recently on whether to get the 4080 or 4090 version of this laptop, do you think the 4090 is worth the extra asking price or is the 4080 enough to last a while into the future?
We have a video for that ;)
ruclips.net/video/YpewXOs8wEg/видео.html
I bought it and will be arriving in a few days! but Im worried about throttling it when using. I do game a lot and have plans on playing VR games on it, just worried that I would end up charring the CPU. What are the chances of that actually happening?
Pretty low I would say. Modern CPUs have a lot of restrictions in place to prevent heat damage to the CPU, and the Legion is a pretty well cooled system!
As always, Lenovo puts a tour de force on their Pro lines, especially the 7s. Very nice design, all around highly competent. I would have liked to see a mini-LED screen at 3600 euros, but they have a highly competent screen nonetheless.
However, what's really exciting about it isn't the 7i, but the 7. I expect much better battery life and performance on battery, quieter fans due the lower heatload and lower prices, as is AMD's tradition on laptops.
A ~2000 euro Legion 5 Pro with a Dragon Range cpu and a high wattage 4060/4070 would really slay.
AMD has an enormous opportunity to release something that fills the humongous gap between the 4070 and 4080. It'd probably end up cheaper than a 4070, too...
Let's see what they can bring to the market soon. I would certainly like to see what a high-wattage 4060 can deliver, given how bad the 4070 scales with higher power levels.
If I go with 7i i7 12800HX 16C 24T RTX 3070ti 8GB GDDR6 TGP 150W, would be sufficient a workstation laptop that can handle motion graphics, 3D works and 4K video editing?
@@Inc0gnit045 Very likely, that's an incredibly fast combo. Just beware the 8 GB of VRAM, as long as your workloads fit into that, it should be fine.
@@TotallyNotEvil910 that's the problem, I'm seeing most of the laptops with 8gb of vrams only, is there anyway to upgrade this vram?
@@Inc0gnit045 only with an external GPU i guess
At least us peasants can dream of owning this beast 😎 thanks for the review.
Tell me about it. It is one of those devices where it is tough to send it back ... :/
Excellent review. I commented on another video of yours when you were reviewing the Asus M16/duo. I stated that THIS is the machine to wait for and that even though the Asus offerings are pretty good, I have simply been spoilt by the clean port placement on the Legion machines. Furthermore, the graphics legroom on the legion outclasses the tier above it in it's competition. Notice on the GPU performance that the 4090 in the Asus M16 flagship, is on par with the 4080 in the Legion.
This echos back to the 3070 gpus of last gen being put in Legions, beating out majority of the 3080 competition. What the numbers here mean, is that the 4090 is not really ALL its cracked up to be for price. The difference between the MSI TITAN 4090 and the Legion 4080 is 10 - 15 %. The question to ask yourself realistically is whether that is worth an additional $500.
Lastly, never buy a legion when it is fresh out of the gate. You should as a rule of thumb, ALWAYS buy it during November - December. Bugs, Reviews, Availability, Sensibility will all work in your favor (did I mention PRICE!).
Thanks a ton for your nice words; I totally agree. The Legion seems to be the best bang for the buck (even though that is still on a very high-level) when it comes to high-end gaming laptops.
And yes, the port placement makes for such a clean setup.
I recently bought the Pro 7 with ryzen 9 7945hx, rtx4080, 32gb ram, 512ssd for £1700 on cyber monday sale down from £2500. it is a powerful machine but on balanced or performance you can't even sit next to it, on quiet fans are stll audible and rarely swith off. It runs hot as well, for example on desktop without any programs opened and on quiet mode the package temperature hovers between 60-70 degrees celsius which is a lot for not doing anything and package power 20-35w. Don't know if i have a faulty unit but god it runs hot and is loud, maybe it's worth repasting it or putting liquid metal on cpu as well, lenovo only put liquid metal on gpu and that stays quiet and cool. Any opinions from someone who has the amd version?
Did you turn on Raytracing on the 4K benchmark?
Not in comparison with FHD and QHD. But the DLSS/FG results were done with raytracing when available.
This is probably a dumb question to many, but wouldn't connecting this laptop to a dedicated monitor of higher color accuracy and resolution negate, or rather circumvent, those limitations with the built in display?
I have never used a high end laptop as a workstation or gaming rig.
Absolutely it would. That is why I paired the RTX4090 version with an external 4K screen:
ruclips.net/video/YpewXOs8wEg/видео.html
I purchased this laptop about a week ago coming from a gaming desktop. The laptop is fantastic. Fan noise is only audible when doing intense things. If you turn on the "AI" mode it will intelligently adjust fan speed based on cooling needs -- I find it works exactly like I want. When browsing, I don't hear it, when gaming, its audible but not bothersome (especially if wearing headphones). As a bonus, Lenovo's software offers customizable fan speeds and overclocking for CPU & GPU.
Glad you are happy with your purchase!
How is the display?
@@umunnacharles5372 RUclips videos seem so negative about it bcuz it doesn't have mini led, but I think it looks really good. Very bright and colors are great.
How much did it cost you? I’m also thinking of buying
@AdaptedStudios i paid $2649 at BHPhotoVideo. It looks like it's gone up now to $2749. Totally worth it. This machine is excellent. It did need an extra 1TB of storage which was an easy upgrade I did on my own.
Please use horizontal bar graphs..vertical ones are difficult to read

When will you release the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX full review?
I am hoping to get it back from my colleaque who did the CPU analysis and will do the written review, any day now. I can not wait to test it further either!

This is so disappointing that there's still no AMD Zen4 alternatives. This laptop would be so much more with 7945 / 7845 / 7745 with far better battery life and temps.
Only asus have 2-3 coming out but they all are still nowhere close to release. Kinda Amd's own fault to not push oems for it🤷♂️
Why is intel already out and selling and AMD is in pre orders? Amd's production/manufacturing is definitely years behind
Since the name is 7i, it's almost certain that the versions without the letter i will come. Maybe AMD's processors just were not ready on time.
AMD might have problems delivering high quantities of their chips, but let us see if that will change in the coming months. It would be great if the customer could choose what CPU platform to use, similar to last year's legions.
AMD run just as hot as Intel.
@@joelconolly5574 I don't think you're correct, from initial benchmarks it looks like 5nm process is a lot more efficient than Intel quite archaic 10nm. Amd chips should be able to offer Intels performance at close to half the power draw. Gaming laptops (unless liquid cooled) simply don't have a chance to cool combined load of 350W when stressing both CPU and gpu. 7845hx should offer amazing performance while drawing in the region of 60-80W leaving a lot of cooling headroom from power-hungry gpu.
Battery life of the new Zephyrus Duo exposed.
Great review, as always!
Very cheeky, am I not ;)
Thanks Joost!
@@NotebookcheckReviews is that battery life correct? Because if so, I’m less worried about going with 13th gen Intel in something like the blade. Was willing to go with the blade knowing I’d probably give up some battery life, but if the blade actually has better battery life than the new AMD stuff, that’s nice to hear.
Yes, it is, but that is just one machine with the new chip. Even with the same Intel CPU, battery life varies greatly between devices. But it seems like we can not expect wonders for BOTH performance and battery life from Dragon Range ...
@@NotebookcheckReviews yeah, I’d assume that the monolithic 7x40hs parts to get as much or better battery life than the 6900hx.
But then you’re stuck with 8 core/16 thread parts. Which means ~half the performance of the Intel 13950/13980 for 2-3 extra hours of battery life. Don’t know if I’d make that trade.
Mines being delivered tomorrow, £2600 with 2 years on site warranty, can't wait.

Legion series is one best gaming laptop with they solid chassis, Cooling and I/O ports. I don't really mind the reduction in RGB never had been a fan of those RGB.
The only issue I have with Lenovo is the removal of non pro 5 version this year. Since they are pretty expensive in my country thanks to taxes and greed the non pro 5 was the perfect choice.
But In my country Lenovo is trying to replace the non pro version with IdeaPad gaming 3 by increasing the overall price of their legion series' so that users are forced to pick the last year IdeaPad gaming 3 over the legion series for better value for money and increasing the sales of IdeaPad gaming 3.
Really disappointed with Lenovo this year.

This year multiple competitors are offering mini-LED and some even at a cheaper total package price. Lenovo should have stepped it up on the legion 7 and kept this screen for the legion 5 pro.
Kind of a chassis downgrade from last year’s model and ditched the glass trackpad 😢 Also sad that the balanced mode is that noisy. Still a beast in games though.
I like this chassis a lot more than the Legion 7 to be honest. I wouldn't say I liked the design of last year's model, and this one feels as solid as a brick.

Wondering how it will compare to a similar all and build utilizing dragon
range x3d it seems we may be getting a few dragonrange laptops that will have 7800x3d maybe 7900x3d equivalent for laptops. I'm sure hoping and it seems possible that it will beat Intel's offering by up to 10-20 percent. Meteor lake will be competing against dragon range later this year 3rd quarter but will it be a gaming king? Rumors have it that it may not beat raptors lake in gaming or be slightly faster while being twice as efficient.
If amd can provide a similar performance at $2800 I think it flys off the shelves considering it packs 16 performance cores 32 thread and might beat the 5800x3d. The efficiency gains for the new 7000 series laptop GPUs gives me hope for amd to challenge Nvidia's 4090.
7940hx3d. Amd please get that out this spring
Well, the 7945HX in the Zephyrus Duo 16 already looked promising, but it seems like AMD will not have anything competing in the high-end mobile GPU segment.
@@NotebookcheckReviews AMD may be content in focusing on laptops with zen4 coupled with Nvidia and zen3+ mid-range all amd builds. AMD did I think officially stated that the 3d stack technology was something they could bring to their dragon range CPU's To me it seems they mis an opportunity by not doing this while coupling them with high end AMD GPUs. Mostly AMD has been content letting Intel and Nvidia dominate the extreme gaming laptop builds for ever.
Last year the supply restraints where a huge factor for AMD likely due to their limited funds. the same must be partially true this year. Yet they are on 3 nodes (6nm 5nm and 4nm). Hopefully they can with rdna4 and zen5 take the fight to Intel and Nvidia in the high end laptop market. After all they have two technologies that influence their abilities to provide cheaper and more efficient options (vcache and chiplets). It will remain to see if they can get the performance per watt up in their chiplets gpu architecture. It seems rdna3 chiplets design suffers from performance per watt disadvantage over the monolithic approach

How can I get in touch with the purchase ?
You would have to check with your local retailer or online
Online
@@NotebookcheckReviews But first، I want to talk to the sales department
You do know, we do not sell laptops, right?
@@NotebookcheckReviews I've seen this video in this link، is it a computer that sells a computer، whether it's true or false ?
Waiting for the new legion 5i pro to drop to see how the reviews go. Not sure which one to go for yet
They have not yet announced "new" 5 series legions yet, right?! It is hard to keep track of everything going on right now :D
@NotebookcheckReviews Yup! Coming out end of the month in some places. It has up to the i9-3900HX with a 4070.
I would appreciate if you spent some time analyzing the huge gaming gains which can be obtained by using e-GPUs, particularly considering the differences between Nvidia and AMD.
Not because this top of the line notebook the vast majority of people won´t be paying for, just because most people don´t know even about the possibility of having a lightweight, portable laptop, and then making it a gaming machine when you get home, that will potentially last for many more years than any gaming laptop, today... ;)
Best!
It is a fascinating use case, for sure. I used the proprietary ROG-XG Mobile solution with their Flow line-up last year and liked it for the reason you mentioned. I just think that it is still a very "niche" market. But I will keep it in mind for future video ideas. I would certainly like to explore this further!
@@NotebookcheckReviews I appreciate it. You just can take a walk through egpu io (or any other site) and see how even thin and light, portable laptops with integrated graphics, can become surprisingly powerful gaming machines, once at home, which is exactly what plenty of people like me want.
And "niche", yes, simply because gaming laptops manufacturers are not precisely enthused with customers knowing about it... ;)
Best!
@@NotebookcheckReviews I would love to see a harware hack to connect a DESKTOP GOU into the XG mobile port on the flows.
@@NotebookcheckReviews Can't wait to see this years Flow Z and X models.
EGPU ares useless garbage
please review Razer blade 16 and 18
We did already on the website, and I am working on a Razer Blade 16 review right now (i9-13950HX + RTX 4090 + MiniLED 4k/1080p Display.)
@@NotebookcheckReviews besttttttttttttt
Legion pro 7 with amd cpu & rtx 4070 would be affordable
Hm, but the performance would probably still not match the price. The 4070 is a very difficult choice this year.
Would of been nice to not see all the typical an somewhat old games used like Strange Brigade, GTA V etc. instead games like Shadow Warrior 3 and Overwatch 2 maybe even Far Cry 6 etc...that can take advantage of the newer hardware and that actually run well on both AMD and Intel/Nvidia.
We usually stick with those for our performance rating because we have a ton of data for lots of different devices, which makes it quite handy to compare different generations. But we hear you and are currently looking into adding newer games to our standard benchmarks.
Bro what’s that wallpaper lol
a little bit disappointed at not upgrading to mini led or oled display
A MiniLED option would have been nice, I agree!
Since 2021, Lenovo retains the crown in gaming laptops. And it doesn't look like it wants to give up the title this year
They are fighting very hard to stay atop the competition for sure.
Pity the screen is so disappointing for video photo editors. Otherwise a good machine.
I actually found that it works quite well for video grading, since you will most likely do that in sRGB/Rec 709.
but yeah, a wider gamut display option would be a god send!
I find it amusing people griping about batter life on a gaming laptop. This is such a non issue. You get the best performance when its plugged in anyway.
I can understand both sides, but I mostly agree with you. While it is nice to get a few hours away from the wall to watch youtube or Netflix, these puppies will spend most of their lives plugged-in anyways!
130w cpu +175w cpu
x 20m z d chassis = thermal throttle lawnmower in
Nobody said that these wattages are for combined loads. And there aren't that many use cases that need the CPU and GPU to run at full wattage simultaneously, so it makes sense from an engineering standpoint to spec the cooling solutions for a max combined wattage to keep cost, weight and dimension at a reasonable level. It is a portable laptop in the end.
legion 7 looks simple and Asthetic
I agree!
@@NotebookcheckReviewsthanks
Rtx 4070 laptop 140w plz
Coming soon ;)
tell me a reliable laptop that is better for video editing and live longer than apple
I worked on countless Windows alternatives that worked as good or better than Apple's latest MacBooks. The Legion Pro 7 is great, for example. The sRGB screen lets you grade footage for the web effortlessly. The port selection is excellent to connect multiple external screens, ssds etc. And performance with the 4080/4090 is simply exceptional!
@@NotebookcheckReviews so you are suggesting me legion pro 7 will last forever like apple, i heard dell precision, zbook are monsters ?
Out of stock already!
Yes, I noticed limited availability in Germany as well.
The hinge looks cheap for me
Build quality is excellent tho, with hinges and all.
I wish they ditched the number pad seen like a waste of space. But overall it looks decent besides missing some ports.
But than 100s of people would complain that this one doesnt come with a numpad.
What ports are you missing? I think the legion is one of the best equipped laptops right now, when it comes to IO.
Hell nah
I literally bought this because of everything including the numberpad.
I absolutely hate that so many laptops ditched the numberpad so they can all look like dogshit version of macbooks, with shit speakers (all laptops including MacBook have shit speakers compared to quality headphones or actual external speakers)
Numberpad is a necessity for anyone that works with numbers in any capacity (Analysts, financiers etc)
The fact razer shipped an 18" laptop without a numberpad is one of the biggest jokes of the year
@@WildfireX I agree but you’re smoking crack if you think the Macbook speakers are trash.
@@jaydendior4005 I said MacBook speakers are trash compared to quality headphones, or actual external speakers.
External speakers like a pair of Swan OS-10s or something, or a pair of good headphones (like beyers or sennheisers) paired with a proper external Dac/amp ( like a Schiit Stack) absolutely blowout any laptop speakers including macbooks, out of the water.
If you don't agree you simply don't know enough about audio or you've never owned better equipment.
@@WildfireX @Wildfire it's a waste of space it's completely redundant. You already have numbers on the keys themselves not to mention how cramped it is. But to each their own.
Waiting for AMD Version....
Let us see if they have something in the pipeline!
no for me, price up futuers down.legion i7 gen 7 was so much better.
What features are you missing?
32GB max memory is a shame (not only gamers are the target for these laptops)... I´m going Asus Rog Strix Scar 17 just for that reason alone.
Lmao are u serious? You can upgrade RAM as much as u like, that's literally most pointless reason ever. It is upgradable, same as SSD
@@heshamammar2638 no, not like ssd. DRAM is limited by mobo chipset AND CPU. That's why some laptops max max DRAM capacity of 32GB, while others already support 64GB... just a few ones support 128GB.
I ended up purchasing a Lenovo Legion Pro... 64GB max.
@smanzoli I purchased the same lenovo legion pro i7 and I am loving it tbh
No Left AND Right Thinderbolt, No Buy
Is there ANY laptop that has thunderbolt on both sides? Is that really a dealbreaker for you? How does your setup look like that you need TB4 on both sides?
@@NotebookcheckReviews MacBook Pro since 2016 & Razer Blade 17 2022.
@@cameronbosch1213 MBP most definitely hasn't had thunderbolt since 2016 lmao
Flaws fingerprint gone
Metal body gone
RGB is minimalized
Nvidia issues
Ethernet port downgraded
Wireless connection not performing like older version
You should see it more like a beefed-up 5 pro than a successor to the Legion 7.
Really shocking to hear that much fan noise.
It is actually not that bad for such a high-end gaming laptop.
The fan noise didn’t actually sound that loud compared to fan noise demos for other laptops.
Do want the computer to burn up? Gosh shut up
Even if you ignore how inefficient Intel chips are this gen, they took out biometrics and 2.5G lan from this year's model for no good reason. Crap.
If they downgraded the network jack, that would be a weird cost-saving measure. I am not sure at the moment if any of the legions before had biometrics ..
@@NotebookcheckReviews per Jarrod'sTech review there was a fingerprint scanner on the power button last year. Lan was also confirmed to be downgraded there, lighting for ports in the back is also gone. Stealthy anti-consumer changes that save almost nothing for Lenovo and make a huge QoL difference for users.
Some of yall might get a free $80 health checkup but paying an extra $2000 over laptop retail doesn't make it worth it.
Can you elaborate? It seems like your comment got jumbled.
Intel13900HX, XX and so on are desktop processors renamed as mobile-notebook processors. Intel is so desperately that soon will start selling fancy ovens as processors. Wait a few weeks and get laptops with Ryzen 7000 mobile processors.
Well, if you see it from another perspective, they can almost deliver desktop performance in mobile devices.
I just got thia laptop on sale for 2500$ usd, or 2300 euro. Taking a month to get to me though
Ugh that is quite the wait! But I’m sure it will be worth it!
@@NotebookcheckReviews yeah I'm not really sure why it's so far out. This model was 32gb ram, 2tb ssd, 4090 card, i9 so that's why I jumped on it. Same price as the 4080 version.
can i have it
Unfortunately it is not ours to give away!
Downgrade from last year, no AMD option announced, hard pass for me.
Why is it a downgrade in your opinion?
Terrible, terrible and cheap decision from Lenovo who decided not to include Thunderbolt 4 in their Gen 8 lineup.
One of the USB-Cs is thunderbolt 4
@@NotebookcheckReviews which model does have that?
You have to access the most premium series in order to get Thunderbolt 4. That is cheap and a dirty move from Lenovo!
The Legion Pro 7
I bought this laptop the other day with the 4080. Returned the Zephyrus M16 with a 4080 because fan noise was horrible, no numberpad, weaker CPU, dogshit battery & it's £300 more expensive than this legion 7.
So far this laptops is a beast, I'm really surprised by the build quality in person, the keyboard is great, the screen is better than I expected it to be, & Lenovo have priced this perfectly (£3000 for an HX chip + 4080 is great considering all other brands are £3300 minimum).
I would have wished for slightly higher colour gamut, especially in Adobe RGB since I would need that for work. But for games and video editing it is a proper workstation. And you can always add an external screen, so its not a deal breaker.
And yes, it is priced very competitively.
I just returned my Asus with a 4070 as well. By the time I upgraded the SSD and ram to match the legion 7, there was only a $200 difference in price between having a laptop with a 4080 or 4070. No brainer
Isn’t the 2023 legion relatively quiet in balanced mode? I’m considering this model but having a quiet machine is very important to me. I have heard mixed things about the fan levels with the M16
@@furnitureandbedding776 it depends what application you are running. It’s balance mode, so it adjusts system performance and fan noise to the demand of the app. For instance if you’re gaming in 1440 or 4k you can expect it to be loud, but if you’re just browsing the web watching videos it’s very quiet. I often use it in quiet mode for that reason, even when gaming. It caps the frames at 80 and does a great job at keeping the fans low. I only use performance mode for competitive esports gaming while using a headset
