It feels like they reduce the quality of 7 just to sell 9. But I don't mind plastic. I don't need an overbuilt pc for 2x price because a laptop isn't a thing that we keep forever and show off unlike a Swiss watch.

I love everything about the X16 ergonomically and aesthetically - It's just a little ridiculous they couldn't give us competitive CPUs or a larger model to establish a desktop replacement. The X18 would be my ideal device at this time.
I am quite interested in the 9i for several reasons too - but the keyboard being smashed into an awkward place for a redundant water cooler hurts me lol.
Most likely buying a maxed out blade 18 in mercury white this year - but it's a shame. I need a desktop replacement for new travel requirements at my job, and I don't mind the extra money for premium build quality of the models I'm considering - but I would 100% prefer a Legion 9i done right or an Alienware X16 with a brighter screen and an HX Intel chip.
The little details and luxury appearance in these items is what inspires me to continue using them - but it's almost unforgivable to overlook the larger details (such as screen and competition).

I went through a lot of laptop this year and I think I will be settling on the Legion 9i (delivery date 10/17). I went from an Alienware M16 4090 -> Asus Strix Scar 16 4090 -> Acer Preditor Triton 17x 4090. Display for me was #1 priority. Since this year they had ZERO OLED for gaming laptops. It seems like this mLED was the one to beat. I will be mainly using this for vacation video editing and secondary gaming on the go.

I think you are going to love the mini LED, it is almost on par with OLED and was the most responsive mini LED I have tested. The screen and the build is the real highlight of the laptop, it is a shame the water lop was a bit of a gimmick but performance was still great regardless. Let me know what you think of yours.

Do you know about PWM from mini-LED? You gonna have eye strain because of PWM, it is on all brightness levels, while IPS is much safer for eyes, because it doesnt have or has the high frequency PWM at lower brightness levels

    • @MashITTech

@@tima_net3289 I am well aware about PWM as I am someone that suffers severely with migraines if a low HZ PWM is used (such as in OLED phones and screens, and I just cannot buy OLED as much as I love the picture). This mini LED does have PWM but the frequency is very high and gives me no eye strain

The only significant difference between the Legion 7 and 9 is the miniLED display. Other features that were removed from the 7 and put into the 9 is exactly the same move Asus did a couple years ago with the Zephyrus line-up. They have since walked that strategy back and put those featurs back in place on the lower models. I hope Lenovo does the same. As you stated in your review, the water cooling solution doesn't work very well - on par with existing heat pipe and vapor chamber solutions. Now, with that said, I was able to price out the Legion 9i for $3345 with multiple stacked discounts that include upgrades - 4090, 64GB DDR5, and Windows 11 Pro. Is that price low enough to justify the price? Decisions, decisions.

CPU performance in games is awesome and it sustains really high total power draw with GPU temps around what the 9i is doing anyway. I think I know what you mean now. I have the AW 2723DF (same monitor you have) as well as the OLED PG27AQDM by Asus. For some reason when I game on the Asus monitor in HDR the fan-noise is non-stop even in balanced mode with the X16. With the AW monitor fan-noise is basically non-existent while gaming in balanced mode.
Can you clarify if a 4k,OLED or HDR display can tax a laptop's performance and increase heat and thus fan-noise? The Asus has a slight edge over the AW but it's a close race and the AW cost me $440.00 after discounts vs the 1,250 I paid for the asus. I dont run the AW in HDR since it looks better for the games I play in SDR( I only play RTS Games) so it's a non-issue with the AW. While the Asus only looks good in HDR@@MashITTech
