It's so dope to finally see Rance on this series. I used to intern for him, James Fauntleroy, & 1500 or Nothin back in 2017-2019. Learned a lot from them musically and seen some of the greatest artists of our generation come thru there, including Nipsey. He’s one of the most humble ppl I know, especially for all of the success & history he's created and been apart of.🔥🔥🔥
OMFG, this is not as spectacular as you make it sound. It is standard traditional West Coast production. He's emulating how bassists normally play when they get funky. Warren G is probably one of the producers who come to mind that allowed his bass players to run the scale. He was doing that bs in 1993, before all these bs 808s replaced bass melodies in mainstream music
@@dianevrules Well when somebody actually cares enough to record you creating from scratch, I'll take a look & check you out. Until then quit ranting about the direction of music & quit hatin things that you can't even emulate if you tried 🤦🏼♂️
The wowa sound He put to the lyrics is easily done, I do it all the time, it's a EQ peak manually modulated as a filter effect. The "up in the clouds" sound as He puts it is a hard frequency split EQ the exact same as the one I use in Reason vocoder on EA mode, it gives a unique sound as it cuts the frequency bands instead of moving peaks and dips in a normal EQ something also do all the time. Point being his stuff sounds dope because it's so simple using age old techniques.
@@dianevrules Simplicity is always more than complex progressions... That's majority of the music that's mainstream, there's nothing ground breaking about the instrumentation. But, who's counting? I really liked how he broke down every layer of the track and what his process was at the end, so many of these dudes on Rhythm Roulette tend to just silently do stuff and not explain.
I think that's because they're cutting the film to the most interesting parts of the production process. While I'm not mad at that, it is nice to hear the producers explain their thought process / actions in real time. I think this episode highlights his understanding of music beautifully!
True be didn't see anything other then EQ slotting for the "Up in the clouds" sound and the EQ modulation to make that Wawa sound on the vocal. These are two things I do in nearly every single bit of music I make at would know exactly what He was doing without seeing the screan.
I saw the short run time and thought "this is either really great or really terrible," and wow. Dude knew exactly where he was going and wasted 0 time getting there. Also let's all take a moment to appreciate the editor's name: Keef Louda.
He picked the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis joint. One of my fav Alexander O'Neal and Cherrelle songs. Saturday Love is the most favorite. But I knew Larrance would go in. 1500 or Nothin are undisputed musicians and music producers
1500 are already Class A Dopeness. Before our eyes confirms it. Taking the classic Alexander O’Neal produced by “The Greats” Jam and Lewis. He brought out a Bop and added sauce to the Groove. Very nice work here.
I'd love a longer version that goes into the behind the scenes of creating the beat, song creation and marketing...u know; music business for "dummies"

I can vouch for that.I interned for Rance/1500 or nothin back in 2008. Before they had the massive hits. They are still killing it.

Rance doesn’t get enough credit for his production and having a school. Loved this episode!
Bingo. What they've created in Inglewood with their academy is like the X-Men school for the musically gifted. It's life changing.

He freaked the sample but he went crazy wit that bass line 🙏👌..then did the keys dirty and even brought Billie to the party 🔥🔥🔥

Future producers learn to play keys and your beat will have more texture, more flexible instead of a 4bars loop
Your know you can change the timing and velocity of the tones ?
@@cedricblomhof1269 As a reference I recommend you to listen to Notorious BIG - Life after Death if you haven't already.
Truth. Knowing the top chord progressions feels like cheating. Most songs we sample are made of them. Ex: 1-5-6-4 progression in key of C 🤫
