@@AboveEmAllProduction I've seen rumblings online that he's not as good as Pete Rock, Madlib, etc. I think Hi-Tek is a dope producer and he "knows the drum". To me, knowing the drum is the single most important gift a beatmaker or real producer needs to have to be considered great. From there it's just them putting in the time to understanding the craft....
This is from a bonus DVD added to one of his albums when CDs used to sell. Anyway, he produced one of the dopest tracks off the Black Star album called Respiration featuring Common.
Where is this guy? He made three compilations that I know of and then vanished. He is one of the few producers that I can listen to and get inspired. Definately one of the top ten producers of all time.
To everyone hating on Hi-Tek, I would love to see you do a better job. There aren't many hip-hop producers who sample their own sounds, especially drum sounds. These days "producers" like Dj Mustard open up FL Studio and purchased VST plugins to make their tracks, they never sample anything, all they do is take what someone else has created and repurpose it. I am not saying that using samples and VST plugins is not a skill, considering 90% of what is out there is probably just that. But don't go hating on who is obviously a very talented producer who knows what he wants to hear and has the know-how to know how to mic up a drum kit and record it. Tek is one of the greats, anyone who disputes that obviously does not know very much about producing nor his history.
Tell dem shatta .....Tek is a NBK natural born killa, dis man & his Rap Group inspired me from since in da 90s and I'm all the way in the Carribean.....check out my name ....and I'm also a writer and artiste.#whatdembowyknowboutTalib&Def
I keep seeing people saying he's being hated on. Read 30 comments so far and haven't read one hateful comment 😂 They must be way at the bottom or something.
I must say, thank you to Hi-Tek for allowing his production process to be recorded, I have always regarded him high in the elite group of hip-hop producers. Imagine this was Dilla....woooah!
So many haters. Why you guys not selling records if you all now it better. just talker. Hi Tek. This video is the reason why i'm still buying cd's and not downloading. Those guys are doing work and their should get payed for it.
People are missing the point with this video. It is giving an illustration of the process. This is literally a beat he just slapped together to show his process. Not "Hey look how hot of a beat I can make." His track record is proven.
People hitting in the comment section here a couple of facts yes that does sound like the theme from The Walking Dead television show which first aired in 2010 this track he's making in this video appears on hi-teknology volume two from 2005
1 + 1 = 2, i never understood why people ask others about a sample some one else flipped...i hope you guys are being original with the sample...shark niggas is real in 2014

I'm really happy to see that Michael from The Wire was able to leave his criminal past behind him and start a productive career as a producer.
Making beats is something so beautiful, that bass changed the whole atmosphere
