- In this episode of Rhythm Roulette, Mass Appeal presents Hi-Tek.
Not to be an #oldhead, but if you've never delved into Rawkus Records and Soundbombing, you're seriously missing out. We're talking about Eminem, young El-P, Mos Def, Talib Kweli. Plus, the production-par-excellence, and a big part of which was coming from the one and only, Hi-Tek. We linked up with Cincinatti's own for our newest episode of Rhythm Roulette, featuring Spirit's Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus, The Routers' Superbird, and Elvis' For Ol' Times Sake. Tek cooks up a soulful, bassline-heavy beat, clowning Elvis all the way ("What'd Chuck D say?").

Oh fasho!! Man is a Legend!! Idk if they had Grap Luva on here but I wanna see my man Grap!!
Yes, indeed. Re: Respiration
It's nice to see Hi-Tek on this because I've always felt that he's under-rated. That final beat is HEAT!
Agreed
Yup!
Yap totally agreed!
yeah he makes some dope vibe beats !!!!! is this the guy who mixing for die antworod tho ?
naw there dj is made up
1 of my fav beatmakers. When he scrapped the 1st beat I was like what is he doing?! But the 2nd beat was even harder. Skills!
+Carl Mac Both dem jawns was MEAN man--MEEEEAN!!!
Nobody is gonna say so I'll say it Hi-Tek needs to be mentioned with the Dillas, Nujabes, Dr. Dre, Premo, Pete Rock, RZA etc.
Tek has a production deal with AFTERMATH!
+telj1 Not necessarily. The producers at Aftermath nowadays get their just due
You never lied !!!!
UnadulteratedRAShit Yeen lying
spr95que I disagree. Dre has ghost producers and he gets credit from other's work, the main ones who behind those fat tracks getting their hands dirty and goes to work from sampling, MPC, KEYBOARD etc. Hmmm! *Scott Storch, Mel , Glove Taylor, Daz, DJ Quick, DJ Yells and few others.
Dre is a Big industrial Producer but, he never sampled, played a keyboard workstation/instrument or work a Mpc in his whole career.
Those Drums 🔥
+Busy Works Beats .TV Hi game
+Belchior Eleiel hey friend :D
hi game thanks for learning me how to do music :)
+Busy Works Beats .TV
......after the 9th one im jaded
+Ruben Jenslin now you just need someone to "learn" you how to speak properly lol
The snare that sounds like a clap he uses on most of his beats is majestic i.e. Reflection Eternal "The Blast"
BODIED.... even the first beat he scrapped was dope
+Magz FACTS!
+Magz Hi-Tek may have just become my favorite Rhythm Roulette beatmaker.
+Ocean Sage 9th Wonder still holds the "RR" crown in my book!
Ransom Smith I loved 9th Wonder's beat, Hi-Tek just made a little classic.
+Magz Yeah, I dug that joint!
Hi-Tek always been up there with Dilla, Premo, RZA, Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, Kanye, Timbaland, Neptunes, Storch, etc.
Absolutely!!
Child please!
Dj shadow
Facts....
There is only 1 dilla
shoutout to the individuals that make this show, it's not often you find such a great idea so well executed with amazingly talented artists and such a natural vibe. It's dope being able to see how each artist crafts their sound.
+boy jenus neutronoid truth, best channel on yt
Straight up!! I hope we get more!
3:38 Beat warming up
3:49 Beat with the scratch! I like this beat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
4:50 2nd Beat 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
5:07 Masterpiece 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
lived down the street from his studio for years, always hoped to catch a glimpse of greatness happening but never could lol. he's def one of the top producers of all time
Sounds like something Sean Price woulda hopped on.

Mark Valdez one of the best
Not the best
Hi tek is amazing all those awesome black star n talib joints 🔥
@@youalreadyknow8087 cant compare them
@@youalreadyknow8087 Never compared him to madlib bud.
One of my favorite producers, definitely underrated!
+Jay Brown agree man. top 5.
1:14 Tek’s best beat imo and one of the greatest beats in hip hop
Hi-Tek is the man & doesn't get enough praise as a great producer. The was one of the best in the series in my opinion!
Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant shit to me
Straight up racist that sucker was simple and plain, Motherfuck him and John Wayne
Elvis wasn't a racist . Love PE and Chuck D but he had no idea of what he was talking about.
He just looked racist. Maybe it was his hairstyle.. idk
@Terry Bacon Elvis wasn't White.
@Terry Bacon Well FACTS are that he was an israeli, therefore not White. How he is regarded by some demographic doesn't change what he is.
Mass Appeal y'all been on FIRE lately!Just wanna say thank you and that all of us watching appreciate the work you guys are putting in. Rhythm Roulette is the best thing on RUclips and really it's better than anything on tv for all of us aspiring producers. One Love! 🙌🏾
Dopeness!!!
Mass Appeal has been killing it lately with the legends. Yes!
Hi-Tek has been one of my all time fav producers. He has a unique style, always really loved the swing of his drums and those choppy bass lines!
His production on that 'Mood' album was some of the best in underground hip hop history....amazing
One of my fav producers. He inspired my music name "Tech-Omega"
There's been Legends getting on this show. Get Kev Brown on here.
+tinktwiceman hell yeah
This dude is a genius thoses beats are cold
why are his throwaways FLAMES 🔥 🔥 🔥
That 1st beat was cool but that 2nd beat was absolute fire
that last beat made me think about 50 Cent The Massacre album so much and The Documentary! Send that shit to 50 or Game!
The first best he scrapped was just a warm up and still better than most songs out there!
The real beat was fire from the jump!🔥💥🎵 Hi-Tek a beast from day one...
Need to see *Pete Rock* up next please!
Much Respect. He didn't have a entire production team with him. Just a man and his machine, dope......
A LONG TIME FUCKING COMING!!!!
Thank you I can watch this fun at home in Japan. Thanks Internet and RUclips❗️❗️
Bring the heavy hitters.
Do D.J.Quik
I would love to see that!
This would beeee nice 😁
not really a sampler. more live instrumentation
I don't think Quik would hop on since he's heavy into instrumentation
Quik has actually sampled quite a bit. He adds instrumentation around samples quite a bit as well as a lot of original joints.
Train Of Thought album he did with Kweli is my all time favourite hip hop album. It's amazing.
first joint was hot but im glad he scrapped it for the second one cos that shit was flames!
yesssirrrrr!!!! I was mad as shit too lmaooo
Swarv 84 naa he needs to keep that first one for himself.
Both of them beats were ill.
Thanks for the idea, 66 years old sitting in my favorite chair and came across your video. I have a sh*t load of vinyl ,old cassettes and cd's, I'm going to put my Maschine to good use.
Last Beat the Sample is: spirit - love has found a way. thank me later
specifically the bells at 1:31 were something I wanted to find and was able to because your the plug. I had already found the album, after referencing the video to see it, but was listening all the way through it until I saw your comment 2 songs in lmao0
thx m8, 3 years later. someone else is probs going to benefit from this again too.
btw 2020 boutta be wildin homie when i drop this song using that whole ass song sampled hella
@@von... 8 months later I benefited from it 😂
Thank you so much!
Tek’s music was the soundtrack to my high school years.
killed it. most under rated producer of all all time
This guy made some of the most prolific, dope tracks in hip hop history.Real hip hop heads know.Salute
Know you dope when you have a banger and go "I'm starting over"... and still make a banger... Props
SO UNIMPRESSED when I thought he was done - I was thinking "Even I know when I'm forcing it...that's a loop I would have maybe saved, but never did anything with." Suddenly, he was like "Naw...I'm starting over." I was like oh, wait...then he came up with that real ish - I knew immediately, and so did he - you could see his head nodding, and that "real sly crook grin" (MF DOOM) creep over his face, like "Oh, I got one now!". BIG RESPECT to Hi Tek for admitting his first ish was wack, and then coming through with a banger!!!!! That's what makes him a great producer, and me a hobbyist.
Hi-Tek is the man... been bumpin his work for a long while now.. not always a "busy' producer, but usually provides quality...
quality over quantity
EASILY ONE OF THE BEST ONES
That last beat is fire!
We need Premier on here!
Preemo dont like to show he making beats !
My favorite rhythm roulette episode.
fucking crazy..... this is this best one i seen so far.... they just seem to keep getting better a better..... i smell alchemist
Love how he scratched on the first on
I was digging the first beat ,but the second one is pure fire🔥 how do they make their drums knock so hard
GS247x Either they are layered breaks from lp’s or the Mpc actual sound.
Compression
My man Tek....he kept me company during the late nineties and early 2000's
2:09 PLZ someone make a good beat out of that lol
+Em Dee im saying
+Em Dee What song was it?
+Cortez Hollister i think he could propably use it in the future ^^
+Em Dee Sounds like you could do a "Big Pimpin" remix with that. It had a similar bounce, yet was different enough to make it interesting.
+Nbdy Knws mustve been the Rouders one
best episode. by far. took the drums from the record. took the ghost from the record. true power. no sharing. just all uninhibited fury.
Man! I've seen a lot of these videos, and Hi-Tek impressed me the most. He clearly knows his craft, and is a true Producer.
3:50
Everybody: That sounds pretty dope
Hi-Tek: NOT DOPE ENOUGH
I can't believe Hi-Tek started over again with the first beat he was cooking.
I love the millions of combinations you can come up with in producing beats. I myself use fruityloops and various chor progressions it has. I need to get a beat pad still. Hi Tek is such an amazing producer. Even watching this video, I felt like I was right in the studio (which looks dope asf BTW). Keep up the amazingly crisp work man!
ROTFL at Tek's reference of Chuck's feelings towards Elvis!! #FACTZ
Honestly, I fw that first beat more then the last one.
If he had just tightened it up a bit more it would've been fine
The fact that he made a hella dope beat and then said “imma start over man”
The bar has been raised very high by grand master Nottz, but I was waiting to see this for a LONG ass time! Almost everybody Dilla fkt with is a real MF, dude recognized real shit.
FAX NO PRINTER
2:37 notice how he licks not only the finger on the vinyl but the finger on the MPC too
I haven't even started this Vid and I gave it a thumbs up!!
likewise lol
OMG bwahahaha I thought I was the only one. Dat's whassup y'all lol.
He found one of the illest samples blind folded, just show you never know what you’ll find when digging
When he started walking around the studio after he put the sequence together, I do that shit everytime I feel a joint I put together too. Shit was funny as hell !
WE WANT STOUPE HERE!
One of the most underrated producers
"I'm start'N over, man" LMAO cocky summbitch!! Salute, my G
this is my favorite episode yet
This dude literally found a record that has literally nothing but good samples on it that you can literally make dozens and dozens of hits off of it.
He even almost made one on accident in just a few seconds at the very beginning of when he was very first throwing that thang on the turntable too tho lol.
I haven't even come close to seeing all of these but this is EASILY the hardest beat I've heard on rhythm roulette.
2:02 song?? Holy shit what a sample
2020 and still dope
Man, I haven’t seen too many of these yet, but in terms of RESULTS, this is definitely one of my favorites so far 🤷🏼♂️👍🏻👍🏻
PLEASSEE.... Get Knxwledge in this
One of the most under rated of all time in my opinion
DAMN that second beat !
this record store is right around the corner from where i grew up
first man to sample some drums on Rhythm Roulette ......thank you Cincinattayyyyyyyyy
this shit was past dope!...y'all showin off wit these appearances
last beat is dope 🙌🏼
Super underrated producer 💯💯
He wasn't feeling that Elvis 😂
it would be dope to see Buckwild on these series
+geimfari_grafarvogs Lord Finesse too
lol when i saw Elvis Presley, i automatically thought about chuck d.
a true Cincinnati Legend !!!
lucky pull.....heard some joints
Man I love Hi Teks drum programming his drums are always on point. I want to see Alchemist, and I also want to see Dewaun Porter too
I wanna see Dibiase, Kaytoven, Questlove, Madlib, & No ID
And FlyLo
Who is Kaytoven?
I'm so so sooooooooooooooo glad that he remembered what Chuck said and didn't use anything from Elvis. Power 2 da people ✊🏿
dude bodied this rhythm roulette...the last beat sounds like it could be on an only built for cuban linx pt 3 lol
hi telk is ice cold with it. One of the best ever, textbook with perfect melodies and rhythm
Can we get Alan The Chemist? Feel like he'd kill one of these
yes please!
like magic how he composed a beat.
A+
Cincinati Finnnest
This series rules! Thanks to y’all that put it together!!!
"shout out to spirit, hopefully they let me clear it."
He told yall that y'all didn't even know he got flow though.
Pete Rock!
My guy right there! 1 of the legit GOATS!
This was SOOOOO DOPE! Thank you for this! ✊🏾
