  • Kristen and Vivian react to King Kong (2005), an epic adventure film that follows down on his luck director Carl Denham played by Jack Black (The Super Mario Movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kung Fu Panda 4) and aspiring actress Ann Darrow played by Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, The Ring, Birdman), as they travel to the mysterious Skull Island and encounter the legendary giant ape, King Kong.
The film is directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Tintin, The Beatles: Get Back) and also features Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Peaky Blinders), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings series, Black Panther, Planet of the Apes trilogy), Colin Hanks (Fargo, Dexter, Jumanji: The Next Level), and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Rocketman, Snowpiercer).

@@TheBombasticFatRat I dont think seeing a shot of carl at the end in prison would have made the movie any better to me. It's pretty obvious during kong's rampage of the city that he is feeling everything come full circle on him. Carl also supposed to be a representative of the film industry as a whole remember the beginning of the movie when all they wanted was to see boobies or else no women in the movie and carl was trying to change that. Not to mention that kong destroyed the entire movie/entertainment district before doing the traditional empire state climb with ann, that was symbolic for the movie as well.
It was a case of show don't tell with carl's comeuppance, and I appreciate that peter jackson respected the audience's intelligence to figure that out

One of the things that has taken the sting away a bit is that Skull Island(in the extended film)would eventually sink into the sea, leaving nothing of the lost world there behind. Kong, at least, got to die defending the first thing he'd loved since he was the last of his kind.

  • @MrRyguy2112

I always liked that little moment between Ann and Kong on the island's mountain where they share a quiet moment looking at the view. It kind of solidifies Kong as a misunderstood sentient being, at least in Ann's eyes. All others like him have died and he is alone, the last of his kind. Then he finally connects with someone, even if it isn't like him.

Jack black, andy serkis, peter jackson are the star of this show. Naomi watts is a perfect cast and so believable that kong would fall for her. The Rex rumble and climax are one of the best thrilling action sequences. Its not as realistic as Jurassic park's t rex and velociraptor sequence but has charm like that. What a theatre experience it was.

  • @mevb
    @mevb 2 месяца назад +33

Andy Serkis prepared for the role of Kong by studying gorillas at a Zoo, where he got into a relationship with a female gorilla named Zaire (who got jealous of Serkis' wife Loraine Ashborne). Still, he wanted to know how wild gorillas were compared by those at a zoo, so he flew to Rewanda (when he said that to Peter Jackson but he wouldn't risk Serkis because it was potentially dangerous and no insurance company would support the studio because of that, Serkis then just traveled to Rewanda without telling and Jackson and company were shocked when Serkis contacted them from Rewanda) to study wild mountain gorillas. He got very close to them and studied their behavior and found out how social they were (it was incredbile that he didn't get even a scratch consindering that gorillas are strong animals and particularly alpha males can be very aggressive if they feel threatened as seen in Kong).
He also played Lumpy the cook, the guy with the beard.

There's a crazy story about the original prop used in the original King Kong movie from 1933, it was essentially a massive puppet that could move his arms and face used as an attraction all over the world by the movie studio after the major success of the film. After a while they stopped caring and they abandoned it in the last city it got presented. It ended up outside of Buenos Aires, losing its parts like the hair to the elements, the metallic parts were stripped down and reused until it was nothing. A fitting end to the prop similar to the end of Kong in the movie

It ends with Kong safely returned to Skull Island.

That moment where Jack Black's character realizes that he F'D up when Kong got loose kinda reminds me of the ending of Lost World Jurassic Park where the T-REX got loose and went into the city and the guy just realized that he F'D up. Piece of trivia for you: at 26:26 that scene where Jack is driving that was really all done by Adrien Brody himself after throughout filming the movie, Adrien had told Peter Jackson the director that he was a really good driver so when Adrien showed up to shoot that scene where Jack lures Kong away from people in a 1930s taxi. (They fitted a race car engine into that taxi for the scene) Peter told Adrien he would do the driving and there was two mounted cameras on the taxi, one on each side of it and Adrien drove the car all over even down the alleyways without causing any damage to the cameras, the car or his surroundings.

I consider this to be the BEST Kong movie, of all that were ever made. The CGI is fantastic, and the depiction of Kong is the closest to a real gorilla, that I have ever seen. The visual face recreation is spot-on, as well as the overall physical movements. Other remakes have Kong appearing as some futuristic animal, with chiseled edge facial features. I was particularly disappointed with "Kong - Skull Island." Additionally, the story in this remake sticks, pretty much, true to the original script.

9:28 These my @CinePals are known as Vastatosaurus Rex (Ravager Lizard King) or V-Rex for short.
Peter Jackson said they were fictionally hypothesized to be what the T-Rex would have become if it were allowed to evolved unabated for millions of years after the original extinction of the dinosaurs; the animal's design was also meant to make it the "scariest thing Kong could fight.
Apparently due to the ever shrinking landmass and dwindling population numbers, the V-Rexes were forced into inbreeding, resulting in the more monstrous deformed appearances of the V-Rexs’ as well as the snaggleteeth, asymmetrical body proportions, ridged back and less ribs/vertebrae.

One of the greatest remakes and films of all time. With one of the saddest endings. Some people might call it overlong, special effects driven, and others have voiced anger on the ending. For me, the length fits the development of the characters and leaves such an emotional impact. Anger to Kong's death is just a testament to how people can get so involved and care for the character. Love this film so much.

Andy Serkis performed the motion-capture CGI version of Kong, and he spent weeks in Rwanda studying wild Mountain Gorillas preparing for the role. He learned so much that he actually had scenes changed in the script based on what he'd learned about gorilla behavior.
He fought to have Kong eat wild bamboo on the mountainside when the script originally had him eating the ribs of a dead dinosaur. He was also responsible for Kong grabbing Ann and tossing him onto his back after he saw that was how wild silverbacks travelled with their newborns. The males sling their young onto their backs and have them hold on when they're climbing into trees to make nests when stopping to sleep for the night (wild gorillas are quite nomadic). Andy Serkis convinced Naomi Watts to try it this way, and Peter Jackson loved the finished product they got back from the VFX dept.

The deleted scene shows them building rafts to cross and getting attacked by giant eel things. A pretty cool scene overall and explains where some of the random sailors go that just disappear between the stampede and the log scenes in the regular cut, but I understand why it got cut out since it has no story relevance and only random sailors were killed.

Nearly ALL the changes made for this version of KIN KONG worked superbly, to my mind. They understood the best ways to up date the 1933 film WITHOUT losing the feel of 1930s depression New York And with much more character development, Naomi Watts isnt the screaming whining damsel in destress, she learns how to survive using her entertainment skills.
Being a computer graphic Kong in this version meant they could get far more facial expressions, instead of having to film only from a distance, which helps you sympathise with the Gorilla all that much more. And they made the best of that, many have said this film is far too long BUT I NEVER got bored or restless in the cinema, they also say Jack Black felt too modern (what ever that means) but he did well (although I'm not usually keen on him) this film is lovingly well made & 100% convincing, beautifully shot for the sun rise sun set scenes & the others, and that awesome music score that's up there with - John Williams, Basil Polidoris, & Jerry Goldsmith

In my opinion this movie is a perfect example of the difference between sympathy and empathy. In the other King Kong movies the audience might have sympathy for Kong and his fate. This movie shows you why Ann has empathy for Kong and what he is going through.

Naiomi does have a great scream, but you should hear Fay Wray's in the original. Well, I think you should watch it not necessarily react to it but see it because its the OG, where it all started way back when.

The ending never gets any easier to watch, I feel every emotion and it's rough
This movie has a special place engrained in my childhood for the visuals but hits harder as an adult, also kong going up the empire state isn't random or not thought out.
In his home being up high above everything meant safety he was just doing what he knew.
Realistically Kong wouldn't have been able to live, he killed people and caused destruction unprecedented in an animal.
Just because he was able to calm down didn't undo what he did prior even if it was instinct.
But yeah him lashing out had nothing to do with him and everything to do with us.
This film is a masterpiece in filmmaking, sure some of the green screen Cgi shots don't age well but the whole experience of starting from rags to riches never felt so uncomfortable before or since.
I'll never forget renting this from blockbuster with my dad all those years ago it was something I will cherish until I die.

I love this movie. I saw the original at a drive-in inn in the '60s, and Kong has held a special place in my heart ever since. I am glad Peter Jackson didn't stray far from the original masterpiece, and I think it was cool that he gave a little shout-out to the original actress; when Jack Black asks if "Fay" is available, and his assistant says, "She's doing a picture with RKO. He was referring to Fay Wray, who played Ann Darrow in 1933.

My favorite King Kong movie! I love how it's filled with adventure and the Kong vs Rexs is one of the most awesome fights i've seen ever! the extended cut is one of the few movies I watched repeatedly back-to-back at least 3 times a day. I remember our sitter loved it originally, then she ended up hating it because making her play it for me repeatedly throughout her stay made her sick of it.

Great reaction - Serkis is famous pioneering motion-capture, esp as Gollum, Kong, and Caesar - my understanding is that for Kong he studied gorillas closely; fascinating how he translates the character moments into gorilla expressiveness; maybe his most purely animal-based performance; also see him in Arabian Nights; 13 Going on 30; Longford; Tintin; Mowgli - re Adrian Brody, also see Thin Red Line; Oxygen; Summer of Sam; Bread and Roses; Splice; Darjeeling Limited; Hollywoodland - Naomi Watts is a powerhouse - see Flirting; Mulholland Drive; Ring; 21 Grams; Adoration; Birdman

Those komodo dragon-lookng dinos are fictional dinos called a Wetasaur (named after Wera Workshop, Peter Jackson's company which makes concept art and props, like all armor and weapons for The Lord of the Rings, Narnia and The Hobbit).
On a side note, those huge bugs that crawl on Jack Driscoll are huge versions of wetas, a New Zealand bush crickets which are known to bite hard and the bites will make you bleed, as shown in the behind the scens documentary.

I remember very well that during filming, a certain excitement emanated from the video blogs that Peter Jackson released every week. And like ''The Lord Of The Rings,'' the hours and hours of documentaries on the making of the film are almost as thrilling as the film itself. There is also an extended version of this grandiose film whose epic side has surprised more than one. Another feat was also accomplished in this film: the music from the great James Newton-Howard who only had about 4 weeks to compose more than three hours of music... which is completely insane when you know about film scoring. The composer of The Lord of the Rings, Howard Shore, not having agreed with Peter Jackson on the direction that the music for Kong should take, amicably left his place... but with so little time before the film's release! I invite you to watch the video between James Newton-Howard and Peter Jackson on RUclips. Jackson, in order to cheer up Howard who is exhausted, tells him not to give up, that ''pain is temporary but film is forever''.
    We have the proof now.

The only thing I found a little unbelievable was that she was in a flimsy negligee in the middle of Manhattan in the middle of the winter and was not freezing to death from hyperthermia. But one must suspend disbelief when watching a movie like this.

The original 33 movie with the T rex and Kong fight was much more Gorier and disturbing. Because the t rex was screaming during the entire thing. U could hear the cracking of it's jaws and blood pouring from it's mouth. Afterwards, as Jack is walking by the rex, blood is just pouring out of it's mouth.
