- Kristen and Vivian react to King Kong (2005), an epic adventure film that follows down on his luck director Carl Denham played by Jack Black (The Super Mario Movie, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kung Fu Panda 4) and aspiring actress Ann Darrow played by Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, The Ring, Birdman), as they travel to the mysterious Skull Island and encounter the legendary giant ape, King Kong.
The film is directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings, The Adventures of Tintin, The Beatles: Get Back) and also features Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Peaky Blinders), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings series, Black Panther, Planet of the Apes trilogy), Colin Hanks (Fargo, Dexter, Jumanji: The Next Level), and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Rocketman, Snowpiercer).

Comfort movie honestly, a movie that you actually feel like you're on a journey the entire time, PJ nailed this.
Jack Black is amazing in this film. A prime example of a comedian who is a master of the dramatic.
I love it when comedians play dramatic roles.
He's the one thing that pulls me out of the movie sometimes, because he doesn't feel like he belongs.
I'm really happy a big movie reaction channel finaly decided to react to Jackson's King Kong !
This movie got an unjustified bad rep' when released. Maybe the general audience was expecting a Lord of the Ring version of King Kong and was dissapointed. But this film has so many qualities and desserve to be re-appreciated !
Love this movie. At the end someone always decides to cut onions in the kitchen. If say 15 minutes was trimmed from the native introduction and insects in the ravine scenes, the movie would have been far better received.
Not sure where you're getting your info from saying it got an "unjustified bad rep". While having a somewhat disappointing opening ended grossing over 500 million dollars, more than tripling its production cost. It was received very well by critics, and even now sits at 84% on RT. It was nominated for dozens of awards during award season winning many. When it came out on DVD it had a massive first six days making over a hundred million (and ended up making close to two hundred million). Yeah.... so what are you on about mate?
It's a damn fine flick.
Also, WTF is a Lord Of The Rings version of King Kong? Nobody thought that...
@@TahiriVeila13ABYchill out dude
I dont kno, but this movie had a lot better reviews than any of Monsterverse movies. Yes the CGI in Jackson King Kong at some point is bad but at least every single character(HUMAN) was absolutely enjoyable
@@TahiriVeila13ABYI'd say it's more of a 'the Hobbit trilogy' version of King Kong. But I like it better than those movies, admittedly. The action scenes are just too ott and long to have any sort of impact, with the exception of some shots like the jaw breaking (straight from the original) and the random horror sequence. Kong himself looks amazing as well.
Andy Serkis's ape debut.
Andy is the motion capture king and a lovely man, really nice guy.
He also did motion capture for the Jungle Book remake and Captain Haddock in the New Adventures of Tin Tin.
They keep some elements of him, usually the eyes... So you can pretty much tell it's him.
He owns a huge motion capture studio near me in London.
It's incredible in there! 😁🇬🇧
This is such an underrated masterpiece
music is amazing, the screenplay is amazing, character arcs are solid,, beautiful story, great editing and cinematography, and just great acting all around. I saw it 3 times when it was playing at the movies in 2005. Absolutely loved this movie.
Won 2 or 3academy awards. Was celebrated internationally and is still is many people’s favourite Kong movie. Wouldn’t call it underrated
@@gauthamramesh3373 Right? The movie's gotten its well deserved praise, it's just old. Wasn't really a huge game changer like Jurassic Park and is super long so fanatics aren't very common. That honor goes to the original 1933 film, and this is coming from someone who *loves* PJ's version.
Naomi Watts and Nicholle Kidman have been good friends for years
The reference to ''Fay'' and the picture for ''RKO'' is really cute! Fay Wray was the actress who played the part of ''Ann Darrow'' in the original ''King Kong'' produced by ''RKO Pictures'' in 1933!
The reason Carl didn't say Ann was being kidnapped by a giant gorilla is that if Englehorn heard about it he'd say "She's lost. She's gone. Let's get out of here." and then they'd leave.
Peter and the writers didn''t have to go that hard but they build an entire ecosystem of animals and fauna lore for this movie!
Fun fact: The V-Rex was fictionally hypothesized to be what the T-Rex would have become if it were allowed to evolved unabated for millions of years after the original extinction of the dinosaurs; the animal's design was also meant to make it the "scariest thing Kong could fight".
Additional fact Peter himself has confirmed that the rex's were imbreed bc of the lack of biodiversity.
- All from the wiki page.
Additional creatures can be found on the wiki, in the art book and video game.
Omgggg we love a homework hero!!! 🤯🤯🤯
there a few really good deleted scenes on the boat showing anne bonding with the crew, showing much more why they were so willing to go after her
As a life long fan of the 8th Wonder of the World, I'm so glad your covering Jackson's King Kong! Kong is so expressive that's to the legendary Andy Serkis...my favorite Kong to date🔥🔥 and that end...gets me everytime 🙃
I used to do that when I was a kid if you put a cup against the wall and put your ear to it you can hear people speaking in another room
I was 10 when I saw this because my much older brother wanted to see it.
Our parents had no idea how brutal the movie would be at the time so they let my brother take me and several of our siblings to see the movie.
The moment the movie got brutal with the monsters, my brother constantly had to console my siblings and I while apologizing to nearby movie goers who did not like hearing screaming kids, through out the rest of the movie.
ooooh, they aren't gonna like the bug pit
Jack Black's character made a few mistakes. He didn't bring enough cameras and he didn't get help from the government.
After giants like Jurassic Park, Independence Day, LOTR and before Avatar this was a movie to watch in theatres. the thrill and action was awe inspiring and this was such a well made monster movie where you actually care about humans.
I seen this in the theater when I was 11 years old. It was really a huge experience.
It’s perfect cinema i remember watching it at 3:00am with drizzling 🌧️ outside and me sitting in my balcony with my laptop and a good pint of bira and some snacks ohhhh goddd what a night it was so nostalgic
Andy serkis is a legend playing the role of Kong and other 😊 His Oscar is long due
If you look closesly in the background in the cargo area on the Venture, you can spot a sign saying "Sumatrean Rat Monkey: Beware the bite!" which is a reference to Peter Jackson's earlier movie Braindead AKA Dead Alive, in which a zoo keeper and his assitant goes to Skull Island (in an homage to King Kong) to catch the sumatrean rat monkey and its bite causes the start of a zombie strike to happen (which is the main plot of the movie).
I absolutely LOVE this movie! I am SO GRATEFUL that you are doing a reaction video to it! I can't wait to see the rest with you two ladies!! 'Til then... ;)
A masterpiece for the AGES!!
so glad you watched it!
This is better than the other Kong movie 😅
25 cents was half a day's pay for a lot of folks back then...if they actually had a job. 1933 was the height of the great depression. I remember my Grandaddy telling me of working on a road crew fixing the old unpaved roads back home in Tennessee for 50 cents a day and he was glad to get that. He would have been little more than a child at the time as he was born in 1921, but his father died when he was very young and he was the only male in the household. In any event, they were doing better than Grandmother's family who had been reduced to sharecropping by the 30's.
Director Sir Peter Jackson became particularly famous for his directing work in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which won 17 (!!!) Oscars, three of which went to him.
In King Kong (2005), Jackson once again shows his full class as a filmmaker.
Add to that all the famous actors, perfect tricks and you have this absolutely perfect action blockbuster.
Watched it in DVD.. still in love with the ship deck scene Naomi Watts was really really good
I watched this movie so many times long back ago but until now didn't realise Andy Serkis was in this movie.
I can just tell by the style and presentation that this is a passion project by peter jackson, like it's as if he needed to make lord of the rings to tell hollywood he can make king kong.
It wasn't until I rewatched this a week ago the themes of man vs nature and poverty vs wealth.
The animals in the zoo that don't belong there; Kong being captured. And where we meet Anne in a poverish theatre settting.
Some may criticize the 1 hour mark of getting to the island but it emphasizes the importance of the moment. We get to empathize/sympathize with Anne, and Jack black's carl denham is as slimey as he is endearing. I believe every second of his scenes.
Also a lot of peter jackson's work utilize such a "cold" aesthetic with the crisp and gritty lighting.
The sound design is on point the tribal sounds and screams are very jackson. I love everything about this movie ^^
I aee many ppl reacting to this old king kong movie. Im glad more ppl are getting in tune to it cause i loved this movie as a kid and im surprised many ppl haven't seen it
Brody was really great in _The Pianist_ .
It's great to see a actual good film reaction there's to many silly cartoon and series being watch thanking for giving this film what it deserves
“She’s got kind of a Nicole Kidman vibe” It’s interesting for you to say that, because Nicole and Naomi have been friends for 40 years. 😊
When they get emotional
It hits me soooooo hard😢
So happy to see you two ladies reacting to this King Kong remake. This is my second favorite version of Kong the Monster Verse version of Kong is first favorite version of Kong.
Evan Parke who plays the first mate was a Yale drama student and used to be a member of a family-owned video store that I managed in New Haven and we had many great conversations about 📽️.
This film had several references to the original 1933 Kong Kong. When Jack Black said "Fay is a size four." and his assistant says "She doing a film with RKO". They are talking about Fay Wray who was the original actress in the 1933 film and RKO is the studio who made the film. Fay Ray almost lived long enough to see this film. She died in August 2004 and this film was released in December 2005.
She was supposed to cameo at the end of the movie to say the final line, but she passed before they could film it
@@liamjohnston2000 I didn't know that. What a bummer. That would have been amazing.
So that means the King Kong film would've come out in this universe where the story of King Kong actually happened? lmao
Andy Serkis is one of the great motion capture actors, kong, gollum, caesar in planet of the apes. also a good actor too as the chef in this
Nice reaction - I think Jack Black here is actually playing Peter Jackson and showing us the story of what Jackson went thru to get LOTR greenlit, and Jackson is envisioning himself here as a young rascal Orson Welles type - another meta is Anne's moment on the boat filming a romantic moment in the sunset - IMO this is Peter Jackson's response to Titanic, and we also get a bit of Mulholland Drive, w Naomi Watts having a moment again where one performance emerges out from under another performance - this half of the film feels like Jackson getting a lot off his chest -
Iam from India
I was literally telling my dad to take me out of the theatre when I saw those wild men scenes😅 still the best kong movie.
Yea ,, the emotions in this movie is amazingly shown
I can remember watching this in the theater, great movie!
King Kong was like “ now she’s mine “ 😅..
Jack Black and Naomi Watts are so good that you almost forget that you are watching a King King Movie! BTW I remember standing in line in 1976 to see that year's King Kong remake with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges. Great film as well, but will always take second place to Peter Jackson's film.
I love this movie❤
*Y'all keep Dreaming, the ONE & ONLY right thing to do is to say: "Have Fun being subtracted from the equation of life and then to peace the EF out of there as fast as possible!!! 😂✌🏾*
"be soft" lol that's the only time those words will ever come out of her mouth
She's like I got a pimple on my lip I'm dead lol😂
Her pimple's Nick name sounds like it's Lil Jon's (Yay ah!) son...Lil Pimple.
I hope you girls enjoyed this movie. I love Peter Jackson’s King Kong. Always 🥹❤️❤️
Waited for pt2 to come out before watching but this is such a good movie. It shows that humans suck, lol. Literally find an island, pull Kong from it, make him some sort of attraction, then when he tried to get away, they friggin' kill him.. I will say its good that the movie is essentially a stand alone - waiting for the rest of the Monster-verse movies!
That shirt looks so gorgeous on vivian ❤
This movie was so good I saw it the day it came out with my mom and sister
RIP jin sakai ghost of tsushima
Jack Driscoll: "Isn't it obvious...?"
Girls: *SPLOOOOSH
I just realized one of the actors was in king of the monsters. The guy that shot at the stampede.
Jack Black here is like a satirical version of Orson Wells. It feels like that's what he's going for, at least.
12:44 , along with the chloroform, there are the original gas bombs that they used to take down Kong(and a few of the dino's)in the original "King Kong". Also, one of the cages in the hold is labelled "Sumatran Rat Monkey"(a creature from one of Jackson's early(and quite gross)films, called "Dead Alive"or "Brain Dead").
16:09 This is actual dialogue from the first "King Kong"(Driscoll was the first mate in that one and also, it was extremely sexist).
24:05 I got an awesome book which is written in the style of some people that did later expeditions to Skull Island. Its explained that the Skull Islanders live in a state of feral terror thanks to living so close to the monsters of the island. The book also explains the dinosaurs are what the original species would have grown to be if they kept evolving(like the V-Rex's that Kong fights).
The extended cut has a bit more that adds some to the movie.
We've got to get them to watch DeadAlive. If they think Peter Jackson had no chill here? LOL. Get Kristen and Vivian some buckets though. Good ones. Buckets that can hold up.
"Dislocation"??? Have you never hung by something using both hands!??
I really love this movie as a kid. I still think it's better than Kong: Skull Island. It such a masterpiece with the vibes in it. Also my first Jack Black movie so I kinda surprised when i grew up found out he's a comedic actor most of the time. He really nice in this role.
kong has always been my favorite iconic movie monster, even in the modern monsterverse he’s my absolute fave
Saw in theaters at 9. first jack black movie i saw
So, here's a question, which may hurt your perception of the movie, ''The natives know about the massive gorilla, they build a wall to keep him out, but put a massive door in it, which he eventually breaks down, wtf? Why build a huge wall to keep something out, but make a massive door in it, that allows it in?''
Great homage to the 1933 original King Kong.
this movie was one of the first ones I saw in the cinema, a least one that I remember. My mom probably took me to other ones tho
I'm FROM. HAWAII and that Giant Centpide 😢😢😮😮😢😢just Whole pile ofHELLLL NAAAAWWWW
The reason Herb didn't try to climb up is that he has a false leg, so it was impossible for him to climb up the cliffs when the raptors came for him. It's not obvious that Herb has a false leg, it is hinted at in the extended edition when Jack, Carl and co encounters a triceratops which attacks them (this was after they start getting into the jungle) and after the encounter, Herb lifts up his right leg in a way that shows that leg is a false one. In a cut piece onboard the Venture we see Herb tinker with a spare fake leg and tells the story of him and Carl were filming sea lions and one bit his leg off (and his testicles which is symbolically hints at when Lumpy cracks a walnut in a nutcracker that's shaped like a pair of women's legs).

Great reaction You two Definitely should check out disneys remake of mighty joe young its similar to king kong but stands out as its own thing it's very good and pretty underated in my opinion
This movie is set in 1933 (which was the same year the original was set and released) 25 cents is equality of almost $ 6 in today's money which is pretty cheap (consindering it was durin The Great Depression when so many people were out of work because of The New York Stock Crash in 1929).
"COLD SORE"
This movie is very near to my heart.
Jadd J.A.D.D. Jadd
This is one of my favourite versions of Kong after the Monsterverse.
I love this movie
Keep your tissues ready guys
Its funny you keep comparing Naomi Watts to Nicole Kidman, they happen to be very close friends since the beginning of their careers in Australia.
Y'all got a new subscriber:
*ME*
If you like Adrien Brody he does great job in The Pianist.
1930s and the Great Depression. And it's about the movie industry of 1930s.
Talking about zoos, you should react to We Own Zoo (matt Damon, scarlets johansson)
Why do you don't complete the monarch web series pls humble request complete it till where you have left😢
I like this movie ❤❤
29:26 wrong type of kong
He definitely dont save people in this one
This is my favorite version of king Kong. It's a remake of the 1930's original only better
Check out the movie Anaconda(1997).
Next ❤part please 🥺
So much of this is great but it's just too long and Jack Black didn't fully stick the landing on that role, for me. I said when it came out that I hoped the special edition DVD was 30 minutes shorter. I know it's Peter Jackson's favorite film, but I got the feeling there was no one to tell him "no" and he was lost in the technology and what it could bring to the film and wasn't able to rein it all in.
Watch James Camerons the Abyss special edition
You should watch the original 1933 version.
Try it
Any plans to react to the 1933 original?
You should say the name of the guy who made the movie in your intros.
Oh Kris ❤😍
watch Invincible series .. its great :)
One of my favorite pieces of trivia: The dialogue that they are shooting for the "movie" are the actual lines from the original 1933 movie! The parts like "I've never been on a ship before!" "Well I've never been on one with a woman before..." are directly from the original.
Naomi Watts has a Nicole Kidman vibe? Well, they're both Australian and have been best friends for 30 years. So yeah, you can say that.
Dune part two has already been released and not a single reaction on RUclips is very strange
I already Saw some reactions so i wouldnt say theres none xD
I recommend watching supergirl it has a great story line
she's so beatiful
Herpes ☠️
Awesome reaction/ can you please watch a movie called ANY GIVEN SUNDAY.
I bet they're watching Meg next lol. Ya'll have reacted to almost all the movies I saw in the past month immediately after I finished em.
Did you watch "The Others" by any chance? I'd like to see that reaction.
