@@martythetickler It's not a particularly controversial opinion. Most people, including people who know film well, consider Johnny Depp and Jack Sparrow to be about as good as it gets as far as Character/Actor match.
21:59 No, that's the great thing about Norrington, he _doesn't_ only want Elizabeth for her status or her beauty. He genuinely cares about her. That's what I like about him and Governor Swann - they value her happiness above their own. 43:32 He can't be dead, he's cursed like them. He wouldn't have died until the curse was lifted at the end of the movie. He spent a decade at the bottom of the ocean, unable to die.
The Pirates movies are based on a ride at the Disneyland parks. They even added a Jack Sparrow anamatron after the movie came out. If you ever come to the States you should definitely check it out.
Will's father's fate was worse than death. They marooned Jack before finding the treasure and Bootstrap felt guilty all they way to the cursed treasure, but still took a piece, becoming cursed himself. He was to spend eternity, tied to a cannonball, on the bottom of the ocean, qith the water crushing him constantly, but again... unable to die.
the 3 first movies are easily the best. But I still recommend watching all the movies because they're all good imo. Just don't go into them thinking they'll be as good as the first 3. Love the reactions you guys do
Johnny Depp has done many good movies and iconic characters. This franchise, Edward scissorhand, Sweeney Todd, Charlie and the chocolate factory, Alice in Wonderland. He's done more great movies, but these are some of his most iconic.
Honestly the “what a man can do and what a man can’t do” being the only rule’s that matter is probably the most deepest thing ive ever heard in a minute
You could see how hooked you two were almost immediately so it's a no brainer to do the entire Pirates series, even the not so great 4 and 5. The trilogy is amazingly fun and I can't wait for 2 and 3, the high drama and storytelling starts getting wild in the next one!
I always feel like the only person who really likes On Stranger Tides! And I do think that Tales has the most issues (the script is very weak) but there are still some fun scenes in there (guillotine).
I dunno, man. For me personally, the drop in quality is so drastic once the original trilogy ended they stop being fun. Just knowing that Johnny Depp was so drunk during filming that he had to be fed his lines via earpiece kind of sucked the entertainment value out.
This movie is why (me) a generation of young impressionable girls fell head over heels for Johnny Depp. Such a well put together movie, the acting is amazing, the writing and directing is amazing, just fantastic storytelling all around 🖤
Some people look at it as a triology because 4 and 5 are not as good as 1-3 and Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are not in them and, while they're definitely missed, I still feel like Jack is the MAIN main character. It may be an unpopular opinion but I personally enjoy both so I always tell people to watch them and decide for themselves. People can just skip those reactions. Fun facts: The films are based on Walt Disney's ride of the same name. There is an after credits scene in all of the films, though not all of them are that important to the story. The role of Captain Jack Sparrow was originally written for Hugh Jackman but he was not that well known outside of Australia at the time so Disney cast Johnny Depp instead, who was more known. Johnny Depp based the character on Keith Richards from The Rolling Stones (who appears in the third film). Depp also improvised Jack's catch phrase "Savvy?" and "Bring me that horizon". Jack's “drunk walk” is actually the result of his "sea legs". When he's on land his walk is unbalanced, while at sea he walks straight. That is because he spends more time at sea than on land. If you haven't seen them, other Johnny Depp films I recommend are A Nightmare on Elm Street (his first film), Cry Baby, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Sleepy Hollow, Chocolat, Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland. Speaking of Edward Scissorhands, it reminds me of she-who-must-not-be-named's comment in an interview after the trial that "he made everyone believe he had scissors for fingers" 🤣
His performance as Jack definitely gets worse as the series goes on. By the time the fifth film rolls around, Depp was so drunk during filming that he would show up to set hours late and had to be fed most of his lines through an earpiece while cameras were rolling.
@@vsGoliath96 he wasn't drunk though. You really believe anything the media writes, don't you 😂 there are hundreds of fan videos of him with fans on the set and he never was drunk. What we learned from his bodyguards and assistants during the trial though is that he came late sometimes because a certain ex by his side stopped him from going to work.
@@jewel79 No, I believe what was reported directly by the producers and crew of Pirates 5 and brought up directly in the trial. Depp would show up to set consistently hours late and was often heavily inebriated, leading to him having to be fed his lines through an earpiece hidden under the dreadlocks. You can tell just by listening to him in the movie. Do you really think Disney would have fired him from a leading role like that without serious reason to do so? Also, please understand that I am not an Amber Heard defender. She is clearly a terrible person who made Depp's life absolutely miserable. But I watched that trial and the evidence introduced by Heard's team shows that Depp is just as much of an abusive train wreck as she is. Depp is just much better at playing the crowd and won big time in the court of public opinion.
@@vsGoliath96 you clearly didn't watch the trial by yourself, I was sick for many weeks during that time and sadly had too much time for thar crap :-) not sure what sources you had. Sounds like mix of lies of his ex that were debunked during trial again and again and media reports that loved just writing and posting her lies without reporting the debunks 🤣 Especially the "fed his lines through an ear piece" made me cringe reading again after such a long time. Lmao. You better watch those 7 weeks of trial by yourself or stop reposting lies that you didn't double check. 🤡 ah well.... or just continue being a troll... that's okay too. Bless you. 💖
I agree. Most movies these days don’t have the heart that was put into living like this. It’s really sad. I wish they would make movies like this again. A passionate, well casted cast. GOOD writing. Scenes with cool directing and choreography. Movies just don’t compare anymore.

Memorable and great Johnny Depp movies: Edward Scissorhands. What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Donnie Brasco. Public Enemies. Black Mass. These needs to be watched.
Also, did you happen to realize that Will's father was also cursed? Therefore the entire time, up until the curse was lifted, he has been undead, fully conscious, stuck at the bottom of the ocean.
If this was a standalone movie, that would be a great theory!! But if that's true then it doesn't make sense when we see Will's father in the 2nd & 3rd movie. We see Bill as part of Davey's crew & stuff is growing all over his self. Meaning he was there for years or possibly decades. & The only way you become part of the crew is to be on the verge of death & Davey makes a deal
@@demontank76 i think he already looks like that BECAUSE he was living on the bottom of the ocean for years. Then, the curse is lifted and he has to make the deal with davy jones cuz he's suddenly drowning
@@demontank76We only see the dead or dying joining the crew, except Will who was forced to join yet still alive, yet Boostrap Bill was undead. I’m pretty sure when he’s talking to Jack he says something along the lines of he was suffering with Davey Jones being his only way out so he joined the crew while still “alive” & cursed as a means to escape his eternal drowning.
@@mathies3598 He joined Davy Jones long before the curse was lifted. He thought he was going to spend eternity at the bottom of the sea because the curse was keeping him from actually drowning. And if the curse was lifted, he would just drown for real. To escape that fate, he joined Davey Jones. Bootstrap was already part of Davy Jones' crew before the events of this film.
A good early-aught's Kiera Knightley movie that's often slept on is Domino. Loosely based on a true story of a model-turned-bounty hunter, its got that late '90's early 2000's aesthetic and its a fun watch. I'd recommend it for a random good time.
Jack Sparrow's trick of using an inverted dingy to walk under water while breathing the air trapped in the hull I first saw in the movie "The Crimson Pirate" (1952) starring Burt Lancaster. Prior to WWII, Burt Lancaster was a "flyer" in the circus, i.e., trapeze, high wire, etc. After the war he went into acting & did all of his own stunts. Check out his many movies as he was the action star of the 50's. All kinds of "swashbuckler" movies!
Everyone that takes the gold out of the chest has to pay it back with blood and since Bootstrap is no longer around they need Will because he's Bootstraps son.
This was an unbelievable script. Jack was the balance point of so many triangles. Jack, Will, and Elizabeth. Jack and the two goofball pirates. Jack and the two goofball British sailors. Jack, the Commodore, and Will. It goes on and on. The other Pirates movies aren't as well written, but they are very fun.
Norrington doesn’t care about position. Dudes actually the most noble in the film. If you think about it we root for pirates but in reality they are pretty horrible lol
Yes and no. Good people and bad people equally were labeled as pirates back in the day, cuz they all were opposers of the crown. Jack's character became a pirate bc he didn't want to participate in slave trading. And in real life, during the monarchy, many seafarers that didn't support the laws were pirates, but not necessarily horrible people. Actually horrible were the old society and many high ranked people. But good people existed everywhere regardless of their rank. That's like the conflict of movies about old pirate eras. There are good and bad pirates. Today's pirates are mostly thieves and plundering organizations tho. Those are actually horrible.
I know these movies are loved, but I personally feel like they are actually underrated. They are miles better than most movies that have ever been made, and I think they deserve to be in the conversation for some of the best movies of ALL TIME!
Couldn’t agree more! In my top 3 shows, all-time. Great production & acting, but the writing is top notch. And one of the main characters is played by the son of Maggie Smith, Minerva McGonagall from the Potter series.
The original three movies are one of my favorite trilogies ever made (cuz those three are kind of like a set with two additional after it). I love those first three so much, they're extremely fun and really well made movies
Pudgey, I'm the same way with the "Caribbean" pronunciation. Having grown up going to Disneyland, we referred to the ride as "The Pirates of the Ca-rib-BE-an." If I were to go on a cruise, it would be to the Ca-RIB-be-an.
Johny Bravo moment: nerd: "my glasses, i can not see without my glasses", then Johny: "My glasses, I can not be seen without my glasses." Love Jonie B :)
Jack's introduction is the greatest character introduction in film history, without a doubt. Tells you everything you need to know about him without a single word 🤣🤣🤣
The first three: Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest and At Worlds End are great. I liked 4 but it was subjective, Dead Men Tell No Tales(5), is highly underrated and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also a logical conclusion to the franchise. I recommend it!
I was obsessed with this first movie when I was a kid, at the time the CGI was revolutionary. It tipped the scales in the ninjas vs pirates debates at our schools lmao. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush together 👌
Jack did a cargo run for the East India Trading Company once. When he saw the cargo was slaves, however, he freed them. Got branded a pirate, castrated the guy who branded him, ship was torched. Jack made a deal with...someone...and the ship was raised from the water, black as coal. He renamed the risen ship the Black Pearl.
This movie is so fun because it is masterfully paced and utilizes every sceen to its fullest potential, but also because of it's perfect usage of setup and payoff. It is doubly satisfying to see Will throw the sword that sets Jack free when you remember the other sword he threw at him was intended to get him arrested. Even the return of the pirate song, twice!
BTW the Pirates of the Carribean references curses on cursed treasures in real life. In Curse of the Black Pearl, it was the treasure of Aztecs in the chest of Cortez. Anyone who takes from its contents will become undead until all of its contents are repaid and blood on each coin is repaid. Bootstrap Bill was Turner's dad so by extension Turner had his blood. Calysto from Greek Mythology is hidden in the series, but she puts the curse on Davy Jones, Curse of the Floridian Triangle on a formation of triangular rocks makes anyone who dies on them undead and unable to go on land. They're also in the state they were in just before death.
A Depp movie Spartan might be into is Donnie Brasco with Al Pacino. Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas is another iconic role you might enjoy. He had smaller parts in Nightmare On Elm Street and Platoon early in his career. One of my personal favorites is the comedy Don Juan DeMarco with Marlon Brando. There's also all the goth flicks; Edward Scissor Hands, Sleepy Hollow, From Hell. And the Stephen King movie, Secret Window. And a lesser known supernatural thriller that was kind of an Omen type thing, Ninth Gate. Say what you want about Johnny Depp, it's always interesting.
Fun fact, Johnny Depp adlibbed most of his dialogue. He literally created the character of Jack Sparrow. Jerry Bruckheimer had to beg Disney to let them keep going because the studio hated Johnny Depp's character he made up himself.
You should very seriously consider watching the TV series Black Sails. It's a bit like Game of Thrones, but pirates. Very complex characters, a mix of historical and fictional pirates from the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean, as they plot and scheme to deal with the possible impending crackdown from either Spain or England, and one captain risks everything in the hopes of winning a prize so large that would upset the very nature of their world. It's not a well known show, it was on a fairly obscure premium cable channel back when it first aired. So not a lot of people know about it. But it's one of the best series I've ever watched. High stakes drama, plenty of humor, some awesome pirate action, but also a lot of serious dialogue between incredible actors. It's a show that got me to read philosophy again, and become a lot more knowledgeable about the early 1700s.
For Bootstrap Bill, he was also cursed, so when he was sunk to the bottom of the ocean, he didn't die in the 2 or 3 minutes that you or I would, but stayed in a constant state of drowning for over 8 years until the curse was lifted.
The fourth and fifth movie are still good in my opinion, but the first three are the best for sure. And when you've seen these movies and still want pirates ... Please watch BLACK SAILS ! You won't regret it.
The sword fights were choreographed by Bob Anderson, and absolute legend 🙌🏼 he also did it for The Princess Bride, which I would love to see y’all react to!! ❤❤

Barbosa's first and final feeling of coldness upon being free of the curse is one of the coldest endings to a villain's arc I've seen
Pirates is a childhood classic in america in the early 2000's. No kid hasnt seen it.
Except for Pudgey
@@meikusje they are clearly not american tho.
Not just in America Bro, it was definitely a classic down here in Nigeria, pirates of the Caribbean and the Harry Potter movies
This is an amazing journey one of the best pirate franchises of all time
Johnny Depp is the only one who can play Jack Sparrow
Or so the Depp zealots believe.
Only pirate franchise of all time.
When he finally let his consciousness win, and Barbossa sent him to the depths, he was cursed, hence unable to die.
He was to spend eternity, tied to a cannonball, on the bottom of the ocean, qith the water crushing him constantly, but again... unable to die.
It´s not for eternity, the rope/chain will deteriorate over time.

the 3 first movies are easily the best.
Even if 4 and 5 aren't as highly regarded, all 5 of these movies are so much fun! 💜
I always feel like the only person who really likes On Stranger Tides! And I do think that Tales has the most issues (the script is very weak) but there are still some fun scenes in there (guillotine).
@@marsalien4 Agreed with everything
I dunno, man. For me personally, the drop in quality is so drastic once the original trilogy ended they stop being fun. Just knowing that Johnny Depp was so drunk during filming that he had to be fed his lines via earpiece kind of sucked the entertainment value out.
@@vsGoliath96 the last one was so disappointing, took the soul out of him
@@vsGoliath96 That does seem like a very Jack Sparrow thing to do though
I love how when filming the underwater canoo scene, their was so little oxygen legolas thought he was back on the LOTR set and was speaking elvish
The original Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is incredible hope they watch all of them
This movie is why (me) a generation of young impressionable girls fell head over heels for Johnny Depp. Such a well put together movie, the acting is amazing, the writing and directing is amazing, just fantastic storytelling all around 🖤
You made the crucial mistake i did....there is a final scene after the credits that is needed if you intended watching the second movie...
we watched it but late, didn't make the edit 😅
Sharing your thought processes is like watching it anew. Thank you so much for your dynamics.
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏼
Fun facts:
The films are based on Walt Disney's ride of the same name.
Don’t forget Rango
That compass is one of the most important and useful things in this franchise
When Jack asked for a pistol he just asked for it so he could get the compass without letting them know he wanted it
Love your reactions, this whole triology is just downright brilliant. Definitely give the next two a watch
Jack Sparrow is still the same Jack in all the films. A fun watch regardless of fandom.
And the one pirate with a prosthetic eye plays the wilding who can enter the mind of that eagle
Bless you. 💖
I know Keira Knightly most from Love Actually. She is also Padme body double in Phanton Menace
As much as I love Jack Sparrow, Barbossa is the stand out character for me. Geoffrey Rush is so good.
I agree. Most movies these days don’t have the heart that was put into living like this. It’s really sad. I wish they would make movies like this again. A passionate, well casted cast. GOOD writing. Scenes with cool directing and choreography. Movies just don’t compare anymore.
15:06 this sword fight and The Princess Bride sword fight are the two best sword fight scenes in cinema. Absolutely incredible.
And two of the best movies tbh
Idk if you've seen The Princess Bride but you def should! I think you'll like the humor 😊❤
Great idea!

@@SpartanandPudgey The character Jack sparrow, is actually based on a real life pirate named Jack ward. And he was a Muslim. Western academia loves to hide or whitewash history they don’t like!
Memorable and great Johnny Depp movies: Edward Scissorhands. What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Donnie Brasco. Public Enemies. Black Mass. These needs to be watched.
Spartan saying that he loves Will’s Legolas-like purity and then having the quick edit of Legolas saying “goblin mutant” made me spit out my tea 😂
Unable to die, Jack
Secret Window with Jonny Depp is an amazing journey
Sleepy Hollow (1997) is my favorite Depp/Burton movie. Great Halloween time
A good early-aught's Kiera Knightley movie that's often slept on is Domino. Loosely based on a true story of a model-turned-bounty hunter, its got that late '90's early 2000's aesthetic and its a fun watch. I'd recommend it for a random good time.
Yes!! Domino doesn't get nearly enough love. Love that movie!!
Johnny Depp used Keith Richards as his inspiration for his Jack moved
The Pirates Of The Caribbean movies are some of my all time favorite movies ever
Movies 4 && 5 are still amazing
This film was Johnny Depp's 1st Oscar nomination. It should have been like his 3rd or 4th.
I know these movies are loved, but I personally feel like they are actually underrated. They are miles better than most movies that have ever been made, and I think they deserve to be in the conversation for some of the best movies of ALL TIME!
Yeah. I wouldn't technically call them underrated, but they're not talked about enough
Jack Sparrow's entrance with the boat sinking as he approaches the dock cracks me up every time.
As house of the dragon and game of Thrones fans, you guys would love the show Black Sails. It's GoT, but with Pirates.
Couldn’t agree more! In my top 3 shows, all-time. Great production & acting, but the writing is top notch. And one of the main characters is played by the son of Maggie Smith, Minerva McGonagall from the Potter series.
@Ernwaldo one of the main actors played Sam's brother in Game of Thrones
@@joshuasilvius7854 Six degrees of Black Sails!
Black Sails is honestly way better than Game of Thrones, and I say this as a huge ASoIaF nerd.
Johny Bravo moment: nerd: "my glasses, i can not see without my glasses", then Johny: "My glasses, I can not be seen without my glasses." Love Jonie B :)
the point they missed about the curse was You had to Take the gold from the chest to be cursed.
Jack's introduction is the greatest character introduction in film history, without a doubt. Tells you everything you need to know about him without a single word 🤣🤣🤣
Part of reason why you know Kiera Knightly's face is because she doubled for Natalie Portman in the first Star Wars prequel film
I’m not sure they watched Star Wars 😅
I swear thats the best entrance ever, never gets old!
I asked, and you delivered. You beautiful people, I love you.
💪🏼❤️
The first three: Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest and At Worlds End are great. I liked 4 but it was subjective, Dead Men Tell No Tales(5), is highly underrated and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also a logical conclusion to the franchise. I recommend it!
"Do you know who that is ? Legolas !" And the father of Elizabeth is the great sparrow of GOT :D
And the pirate with the fake eye plays the wildling warg Orell, the one with the eagle. Mackenzie Crook
Jonathan Pryce was the HIGH Sparrow in GoT.
I was obsessed with this first movie when I was a kid, at the time the CGI was revolutionary. It tipped the scales in the ninjas vs pirates debates at our schools lmao. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush together 👌
As someone from the Caribbean, I say Caribbean and Pirates of the Caribbean completely different lol
Can't wait to reexperience this 5 movie journey with you guys! 💜
The first three Pirates movies are fantastic 👌🏻👌🏻
Oh I thoroughly enjoyed the 4thz great cast. Definitely a different movie
Calysto from Greek Mythology is hidden in the series, but she puts the curse on Davy Jones,
Curse of the Floridian Triangle on a formation of triangular rocks makes anyone who dies on them undead and unable to go on land.
Shout out to my fellow Don Juan fan.
Such a great film 😊
Fun fact, Johnny Depp adlibbed most of his dialogue. He literally created the character of Jack Sparrow. Jerry Bruckheimer had to beg Disney to let them keep going because the studio hated Johnny Depp's character he made up himself.
Johnny Depps most iconic (and best in my opinion) role to date! ☠️ ⚓️💜
In the butler defense, he didn’t knew the Caribbean colony was being attacked.
Referring to yourself in third person is nuts😂
ar471 doesn’t think so
Dropping the anchor and making a sharp turn is a feature in a pirate PC game called Sea of Thieves. Chain shot as well to destroy the mast.
If you ever want to start a TV series about pirates, Black Sails is surprisingly good. It's like GoT on the sea.
Did y’all recognize Elizabeth’s father is the damn High Sparrow in Game of Thrones?🤣
yes!
Public Enemies is an incredible JD film. Based on a true story about a 1930s gangster ;)

What is intresting as well is, This was really one of Disney's early movies that was not aimed a kids (they also has Tron, maybe one or two others?). My friends and I were so surprised that such a well done movie meant for older audiences came from Disney.
