It makes sense, humans and angels are animals as in they are creation. He could have any power as long something takes shape or consciousness in the universe.
Meanwhile: Sad green beast boy noises are drowned out by very angry Vixen noises.
Caleb Mayfield he was since he could turn into an elephant which might be able to bust a wooden wall.
Same with a bull. Street levelers are characters like Catwoman, Black Canary and Black Widow.

When I first read Grant Morrison's Animal Man, I thought is was just going to be a goofy story about a guy with the powers of various animals. Boy, was I wrong. 😐
What I actually got was a heart-breaking story that's basically a metaphor for authors making their creations suffer for their audience's amusement. I do highly recommend reading it, but be warned: there will be feels.

I mean, yeah, he Is a master in handling the continuity, and he is really a brilliant writer with so much fantasy, I'm sure when he cut himself, he bleed rainbows

@@greenguy369 Animal man is a lot of fun, the 4th wall break is used in way more interesting way then other comics or pieces of media, instead of the characters using the 4th wall break to make references or jokes, the characters in animal man are horrified at the idea of them being just fictional characters and it takes them through existential horror
Whenever I saw Animal Man comics at the library, I just assume it was just some guy with the ability to control animals. Now I feel like I made a mistake ignoring those books. Also we mind as well call him GodMan instead of Animal Man.

Reason why I watched the video: I'm at the begining of my PhD in comics and time and have been looking for videos that discuss parts of the DC Universe that I haven't explored yet to see what is useful. This was very helpful as I can add Animal Man to my list :)

With the speedforce he can shapeshift,
age people, and make jedi mind tricks by vibrating and talking inside somebody's brain as if it was the person's own thoughts. Pretty fucking scary and creepy
When you mentioned that he took on the properties of bacteria I thought it odd. Bacteria aren't animals, so his powers would be out of the scope of animals. Then you said he did the same for viruses - they're not even technically alive. That's absurd power indeed.
Of course, all that pales next to everything else you mentioned lol. This went places I couldn't imagine.

LOL they are VERY similar but technically there is a difference between them.
Antagon is the Dark HALF of god
The Great Evil Beast is the darkness that equals and fled from the light of creation
The Decreator is the counter force that exists as a result of Gods actions and basically exists to undo them all
There's also stuff like Pralaya (the void that predates god) and Mandrakk (represents all evil concepts) who are very similar and Yama who is supposed to be the Dark Opposite of God from the new Lucifer stuff. I'm sure there are other examples I am forgetting at this moment too. Could do an entire video just on these sorts of characters honestly.

@@WebCamParrot That begs the question: Is this supposed to be the Abrahamic Tetragrammaton? The references to angels and such suggests this, but if that is the case, how much can you change he concept of the Abrahamic God before it just becomes another original concept?

@@WebCamParrot Not to mention there is also Blight, the culmination of all dark and/or evil thoughts within the collective unconscious, and frankly, it seems a lot of these (besides the great darkness and pralaya) are just different names and forms for the same primordial evil being, that yama, mandrakk, antagon, Blight, the D-Creator, etc, are all just different forms and aspects of the same Anti-God. Of course, that's just how I make sense of it, but it seems plausible that given the similar description of all of those various beings, that they would all in fact just be the same being, described in different ways with different names, especially since we are talking about beings molded by the collective unconscious anyway, given even the presence/god is molded by the collective unconscious.
By contrast, Prayleya predates the collective unconscious, existing before and outside the light of creation, and the great darkness/shadowlands is just the darkness displaced by the light of creation, and thus is just a piece of Prayleya that effectively got shoved out of the way when creation was made.
So in essence, there is, in my opinion, 3 entities we are talking about here.
God/The Presence
The Dark Side of God/The being who exists from all dark thoughts, hellbent on undoing everything god hopes to acheive
and, The Great Darkness, which is an entirely separate thing and is just the mass of darkness shoved out when the Light of Creation happened.
I read alot of most powerful in dc lists over the years. How come this is the first time i've heard of this character?

I watch this video videos because i had no idea just how powerful animal mam was. Like Grant Morrison mind is crazy cause the fact he's even come up with this shit it's just insane and animal man can go from barely wall level to being out of outerversal and could pretty much destroy almost every character in Marvel. I love your DC videos. The scope, range, and depth of power hasn't been covered like this before. I would like if you made a tier list, ranking the most powerful beings. With the top tier powers being so wacky and hard to grasp, it's difficult to really say who topples who.
"Innocuous" is not how I'd describe Animal Man. I'd love to have the ability to gain the powers/abilities of any animal. What a COOL power-set!

As a Goku fan, no, not a lot of people really get how strong he is currently. He’s been able to shake an infinite realm passively and can dodge/attack without thinking with the use of Ultra Instinct (albeit which is still new to him). So he’s no slouch at all lol.
It’s always the dick move to bring up this one occurrence, but there was a time when Goku DID actually impact the pages of a comic book. One time when he was fighting someone in early Dragon Ball (Yamcha? I don’t remember), he hit them off the top of the manga panel, breaking it.
That all being said, “it’s always about Goku” is the fault of the DB fan base and jerking him off to be the strongest character in fiction, manga, Shonen jump, etc (all three of which are incorrect, but I digress).
Please don’t see me as being aggressive, antagonistic, or even the devils advocate, I’m just spreading the word about my favorite blonde super-hillbilly 😷

Animal man is so amazing, I read the new 52 version but never really read the Grant Morrison version but I kinda want to now. Also, 5:05 is so cool, I love how the superhero broke down into simple shapes.
After being extremely confused by the Jeff Lemire and Steve Pugh run of Animal Man, this sort of explains why what I thought was a street level character got into some crazy shit.
best way to understand it is to know that run was building up to cross over with Swamp thing. Arcane is trying to change the dimensional landscape then Buddy has to make peace with the greatest loss he has ever faced while being nominated for an academy award. brother Blood is trying take his powers.

Hue Manbean according to Morrison, himself, he didn't dabble in drugs until the 90s - after his Animal Man run. He was a straight-edger when he wrote Doom Patrol

I wanted to see the video because after The Swamp Thing video, I wanted to see if the downplay of Animal Man compared to Swamp Thing was true. Glad to see that, if anything, max animal man is greater than max swamp thing. Not exactly what you’d expect out of a hero named Animal Man. Went from simple family man, to being comparable to God. A success story if I’ve ever heard one.
Animal Man and Vixen is really powerful, it's sad that both of them are very underused. I hope that these two Animal power houses will get recognized as Beast Boy ✨

You're completely overlooking a low-key, but huge factor in that run, the implications of which put even Animal Man's powers in the shade. Morrison, by inserting himself into the narrative as himself, becomes not just a self determinate, canon character in the DCU, but one with power in the real World shaping of that Universe. Think about that for a moment. Then look at Morrison's 'Multiversity' model of said Universe. Morrison becomes God. He can now break the fourth wall. *From either side* Who has the power to Monitor the Monitors? Animal Man? Or GM?
I've only read the run starting from Morrison through milligan and veitch to Delano. I never read the last issues past Delano. Are they worth it?

no. they are not the same . there an ok read but the mood is different almost strait forward and Grandma is forgotten about Maxine become a new age preacher and Buddy becomes almost one dimensional. like the writer was struggling with what to do next now that Animal man did everything .
